1:1 これはヨルダンの向こうの荒野、パランと、トペル、ラバン、ハゼロテ、デザハブとの間の、スフの前にあるアラバにおいて、モーセがイスラエルのすべての人に告げた言葉である。
1:1 These be the words which Moses spoke unto all Israel on this side Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain opposite to the Red sea, between Paran, and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Dizahab.
1:2 ホレブからセイル山の道を経て、カデシ・バルネアに達するには、十一日の道のりである。
1:2 (There are eleven days' journey from Horeb by the way of mount Seir unto Kadeshbarnea.)
1:3 第四十年の十一月となり、その月の一日に、モーセはイスラエルの人々にむかって、主が彼らのため彼に授けられた命令を、ことごとく告げた。
1:3 And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spoke unto the children of Israel, according unto all that the LORD had given him in commandment unto them;
1:4 これはモーセがヘシボンに住んでいたアモリびとの王シホン、およびアシタロテとエデレイとに住んでいたバシャンの王オグを殺した後であった。
1:4 After he had slain Sihon the king of the Amorites, which dwelt in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, which dwelt at Astaroth in Edrei:
1:5 すなわちモーセはヨルダンの向こうのモアブの地で、みずから、この律法の説明に当った、そして言った、
1:5 On this side Jordan, in the land of Moab, began Moses to declare this law, saying,
1:6 「われわれの神、主はホレブにおいて、われわれに言われた、『あなたがたはすでに久しく、この山にとどまっていたが、
1:6 The LORD our God spoke unto us in Horeb, saying, All of you have dwelt long enough in this mount:
1:7 身をめぐらして道に進み、アモリびとの山地に行き、その近隣のすべての所、アラバ、山地、低地、ネゲブ、海べ、カナンびとの地、またレバノンに行き、大川ユフラテにまで行きなさい。
1:7 Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates.
1:8 見よ、わたしはこの地をあなたがたの前に置いた。この地にはいって、それを自分のものとしなさい。これは主が、あなたがたの先祖アブラハム、イサク、ヤコブに誓って、彼らとその後の子孫に与えると言われた所である』。
1:8 Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the LORD swore unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.
1:9 あの時、わたしはあなたがたに言った、『わたしはひとりであなたがたを負うことができない。
1:9 And I spoke unto you at that time, saying, I am not able to bear you myself alone:
1:10 あなたがたの神、主はあなたがたを多くされたので、あなたがたは、きょう、空の星のように多い。
1:10 The LORD your God has multiplied you, and, behold, all of you are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude.
1:11 ――どうぞ、あなたがたの先祖の神、主があなたがたを、今あるより千倍も多くし、またあなたがたに約束されたように、あなたがたを恵んでくださるように。――
1:11 (The LORD God of your fathers make you a thousand times so many more as all of you are, and bless you, as he has promised you!)
1:12 わたしひとりで、どうして、あなたがたを負い、あなたがたの重荷と、あなたがたの争いを処理することができようか。
1:12 How can I myself alone bear your cumbrance, and your burden, and your strife?
1:13 あなたがたは、おのおの部族ごとに、知恵があり、知識があって、人に知られている人々を選び出しなさい。わたしはその人々を、あなたがたのかしらとするであろう』。
1:13 Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.
1:14 その時、あなたがたはわたしに答えた、『あなたがしようと言われることは良いことです』。
1:14 And all of you answered me, and said, The thing which you have spoken is good for us to do.
1:15 そこで、わたしは、あなたがたのうちから、知恵があり、人に知られている人々を取って、あなたがたのかしらとした。すなわち千人の長、百人の長、五十人の長、十人の長とし、また、あなたがたの部族のつかさびととした。
1:15 So I took the chief of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens, and officers among your tribes.
1:16 また、あのとき、わたしはあなたがたのさばきびとたちに命じて言った、『あなたがたは、兄弟たちの間の訴えを聞き、人とその兄弟、または寄留の他国人との間を、正しくさばかなければならない。
1:16 And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him.
1:17 あなたがたは、さばきをする時、人を片寄り見てはならない。小さい者にも大いなる者にも聞かなければならない。人の顔を恐れてはならない。さばきは神の事だからである。あなたがたで決めるのにむずかしい事は、わたしのところに持ってこなければならない。わたしはそれを聞くであろう』。
1:17 All of you shall not respect persons in judgment; but all of you shall hear the small as well as the great; all of you shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God's: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it.
1:18 わたしはまた、あの時、あなたがたがしなければならないことを、ことごとく命じた。
1:18 And I commanded you at that time all the things which all of you should do.
1:19 われわれの神、主が命じられたように、われわれは、ホレブを出立して、あなたがたが見た、あの大きな恐ろしい荒野を通り、アモリびとの山地へ行く道によって、カデシ・バルネアにきた。
1:19 And when we departed from Horeb, we went through all that great and terrible wilderness, which all of you saw by the way of the mountain of the Amorites, as the LORD our God commanded us; and we came to Kadeshbarnea.
1:20 その時わたしはあなたがたに言った、『あなたがたは、われわれの神、主がお与えになるアモリびとの山地に着いた。
1:20 And I said unto you, All of you are come unto the mountain of the Amorites, which the LORD our God does give unto us.
1:21 見よ、あなたの神、主はこの地をあなたの前に置かれた。あなたの先祖の神、主が告げられたように、上って行って、これを自分のものとしなさい。恐れてはならない。おののいてはならない』。
1:21 Behold, the LORD your God has set the land before you: go up and possess it, as the LORD God of your fathers has said unto you; fear not, neither be discouraged.
1:22 あなたがたは皆わたしに近寄って言った、『われわれは人をさきにつかわして、その地を探らせ、どの道から上るべきか、どの町々に入るべきかを、復命させましょう』。
1:22 And all of you came near unto me every one of you, and said, We will send men before us, and they shall search us out the land, and bring us word again by what way we must go up, and into what cities we shall come.
1:23 このことは良いと思ったので、わたしはあなたがたのうち、おのおのの部族から、ひとりずつ十二人の者を選んだ。
1:23 And the saying pleased me well: and I took twelve men of you, one of a tribe:
1:24 彼らは身をめぐらして、山地に上って行き、エシコルの谷へ行ってそれを探り、
1:24 And they turned and went up into the mountain, and came unto the valley of Eshcol, and searched it out.
1:25 その地のくだものを手に取って、われわれのところに持って下り、復命して言った、『われわれの神、主が賜わる地は良い地です』。
1:25 And they took of the fruit of the land in their hands, and brought it down unto us, and brought us word again, and said, It is a good land which the LORD our God does give us.
1:26 しかし、あなたがたは上って行くことを好まないで、あなたがたの神、主の命令にそむいた。
1:26 Notwithstanding all of you would not go up, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God:
1:27 そして天幕でつぶやいて言った。『主はわれわれを憎んでアモリびとの手に渡し、滅ぼそうとしてエジプトの国から導き出されたのだ。
1:27 And all of you murmured in your tents, and said, Because the LORD hated us, he has brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.
1:28 われわれはどこへ上って行くのか。兄弟たちは、「その民はわれわれよりも大きくて、背も高い。町々は大きく、その石がきは天に届いている。われわれは、またアナクびとの子孫をその所で見た」と言って、われわれの心をくじいた』。
1:28 Where shall we go up? our brethren have discouraged our heart, saying, The people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims there.
1:29 その時、わたしはあなたがたに言った、『彼らをこわがってはならない。また恐れてはならない。
1:29 Then I said unto you, Dread not, neither be afraid of them.
1:30 先に立って行かれるあなたがたの神、主はエジプトにおいて、あなたがたの目の前で、すべてのことを行われたように、あなたがたのために戦われるであろう。
1:30 The LORD your God which goes before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes;
1:31 あなたがたはまた荒野で、あなたの神、主が、人のその子を抱くように、あなたを抱かれるのを見た。あなたがたが、この所に来るまで、その道すがら、いつもそうであった』。
1:31 And in the wilderness, where you have seen how that the LORD your God bare you, as a man does bear his son, in all the way that all of you went, until all of you came into this place.
1:32 このように言っても、あなたがたはなお、あなたがたの神、主を信じなかった。
1:32 Yet in this thing all of you did not believe the LORD your God,
1:33 主は道々あなたがたの先に立って行き、あなたがたが宿営する場所を捜し、夜は火のうちにあり、昼は雲のうちにあって、あなたがたに行くべき道を示された。
1:33 Who went in the way before you, to search you out a place to pitch your tents in, in fire by night, to show you by what way all of you should go, and in a cloud by day.
1:34 主は、あなたがたの言葉を聞いて怒り、誓って言われた、
1:34 And the LORD heard the voice of your words, and was angry, and swore, saying,
1:35 『この悪い世代の人々のうちには、わたしが、あなたがたの先祖たちに与えると誓ったあの良い地を見る者は、ひとりもないであろう。
1:35 Surely there shall not one of these men of this evil generation see that good land, which I swore to give unto your fathers.
1:36 ただエフンネの子カレブだけはそれを見ることができるであろう。彼が踏んだ地を、わたしは彼とその子孫に与えるであろう。彼が全く主に従ったからである』。
1:36 Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him will I give the land that he has trodden upon, and to his children, because he has wholly followed the LORD.
1:37 主はまた、あなたがたのゆえに、わたしをも怒って言われた、『おまえもまた、そこにはいることができないであろう。
1:37 Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying, You also shall not go in thither.

1:38 But Joshua the son of Nun, which stands before you, he shall go in thither: encourage him: for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.

1:39 Moreover your little ones, which all of you said should be a prey, and your children, which in that day had no knowledge between good and evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it.
1:40 あなたがたは身をめぐらし、紅海の道によって、荒野に進んで行きなさい』。
1:40 But as for you, turn you, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.
1:41 しかし、あなたがたはわたしに答えて言った、『われわれは主にむかって罪を犯しました。われわれの神、主が命じられたように、われわれは上って行って戦いましょう』。そして、おのおの武器を身に帯びて、かるがるしく山地へ上って行こうとした。
1:41 Then all of you answered and said unto me, We have sinned against the LORD, we will go up and fight, according to all that the LORD our God commanded us. And when all of you had girded on every man his weapons of war, all of you were ready to go up into the hill.
1:42 その時、主はわたしに言われた、『彼らに言いなさい、「あなたがたは上って行ってはならない。また戦ってはならない。わたしはあなたがたのうちにいない。おそらく、あなたがたは敵に撃ち敗られるであろう」』。
1:42 And the LORD said unto me, Say unto them. Go not up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest all of you be smitten before your enemies.
1:43 このようにわたしが告げたのに、あなたがたは聞かないで主の命令にそむき、ほしいままに山地へ上って行ったが、
1:43 So I spoke unto you; and all of you would not hear, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD, and went presumptuously up into the hill.
1:44 その山地に住んでいるアモリびとが、あなたがたに向かって出てきて、はちが追うように、あなたがたを追いかけ、セイルで撃ち敗って、ホルマにまで及んだ。
1:44 And the Amorites, which dwelt in that mountain, came out against you, and chased you, as bees do, and destroyed you in Seir, even unto Hormah.
1:45 あなたがたは帰ってきて、主の前で泣いたが、主はあなたがたの声を聞かず、あなたがたに耳を傾けられなかった。
1:45 And all of you returned and wept before the LORD; but the LORD would not hearken to your voice, nor give ear unto you.
1:46 こうしてあなたがたは、日久しくカデシにとどまった。あなたがたのそこにとどまった日数のとおりである。
1:46 So all of you abode in Kadesh many days, according unto the days that all of you abode there.
2:1 それから、われわれは身をめぐらし、主がわたしに告げられたように、紅海の方に向かって荒野に進み入り、日久しくセイル山を行きめぐっていたが、
2:1 Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea, as the LORD spoke unto me: and we compassed mount Seir many days.
2:2 主はわたしに言われた、
2:2 And the LORD spoke unto me, saying,
2:3 『あなたがたは既に久しくこの山を行きめぐっているが、身をめぐらして北に進みなさい。
2:3 All of you have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward.
2:4 おまえはまた民に命じて言え、「あなたがたは、エサウの子孫、すなわちセイルに住んでいるあなたがたの兄弟の領内を通ろうとしている。彼らはあなたがたを恐れるであろう。それゆえ、あなたがたはみずから深く慎み、
2:4 And command you the people, saying, All of you are to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you: take all of you good heed unto yourselves therefore:
2:5 彼らと争ってはならない。彼らの地は、足の裏で踏むほどでも、あなたがたに与えないであろう。わたしがセイル山をエサウに与えて、領地とさせたからである。
2:5 Meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth; because I have given mount Seir unto Esau for a possession.
2:6 あなたがたは彼らから金で食物を買って食べ、また金で水を買って飲まなければならない。
2:6 All of you shall buy food of them for money, that all of you may eat; and all of you shall also buy water of them for money, that all of you may drink.
2:7 あなたの神、主が、あなたのするすべての事において、あなたを恵み、あなたがこの大いなる荒野を通るのを、見守られたからである。あなたの神、主がこの四十年の間、あなたと共におられたので、あなたは何も乏しいことがなかった」』。
2:7 For the LORD your God has blessed you in all the works of your hand: he knows your walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing.
2:8 こうしてわれわれは、エサウの子孫でセイルに住んでいる兄弟を離れ、アラバの道を避け、エラテとエジオン・ゲベルを離れて進んだ。われわれは転じて、モアブの荒野の方に向かって進んだ。
2:8 And when we passed by from our brethren the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plain from Elath, and from Eziongaber, we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.
2:9 その時、主はわたしに言われた、『モアブを敵視してはならない。またそれと争い戦ってはならない。彼らの地は、領地としてあなたに与えない。ロトの子孫にアルを与えて、領地とさせたからである。
2:9 And the LORD said unto me, Distress not the Moabites, neither contend with them in battle: for I will not give you of their land for a possession; because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot for a possession.
2:10 （むかし、エミびとがこの所に住んでいた。この民は大いなる民であって、数も多く、アナクびとのように背も高く、
2:10 The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims;
2:11 またアナクびとと同じくレパイムであると、みなされていたが、モアブびとは、これをエミびとと呼んでいた。
2:11 Which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites called them Emims.
2:12 ホリびとも、むかしはセイルに住んでいたが、エサウの子孫がこれを追い払い、これを滅ぼし、彼らに代ってそこに住んだ。主が賜わった所有の地に、イスラエルがおこなったのと同じである。）
2:12 The Horims also dwelt in Seir in time past; but the children of Esau succeeded them, when they had destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their position; as Israel did unto the land of his possession, which the LORD gave unto them.
2:13 あなたがたは、いま、立ちあがってゼレデ川を渡りなさい』。そこでわれわれはゼレデ川を渡った。
2:13 Now rise up, said I, and get you over the brook Zered. And we went over the brook Zered.
2:14 カデシ・バルネアを出てこのかた、ゼレデ川を渡るまでの間の日は三十八年であって、その世代のいくさびとはみな死に絶えて、宿営のうちにいなくなった。主が彼らに誓われたとおりである。
2:14 And the space in which we came from Kadeshbarnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, was thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the host, as the LORD swore unto them.
2:15 まことに主の手が彼らを攻め、宿営のうちから滅ぼし去られたので、彼らはついに死に絶えた。
2:15 For indeed the hand of the LORD was against them, to destroy them from among the host, until they were consumed.
2:16 いくさびとがみな民のうちから死に絶えたとき、
2:16 So it came to pass, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people,
2:17 主はわたしに言われた、
2:17 That the LORD spoke unto me, saying,
2:18 『おまえは、きょう、モアブの領地アルを通ろうとしている。
2:18 You are to pass over through Ar, the coast of Moab, this day:
2:19 アンモンの子孫に近づく時、おまえは彼らを敵視してはならない。また争ってはならない。わたしはアンモンの子孫の地を領地として、おまえに与えない。それをロトの子孫に領地として与えたからである。
2:19 And when you come nigh opposite to the children of Ammon, distress them not, nor meddle with them: for I will not give you of the land of the children of Ammon any possession; because I have given it unto the children of Lot for a possession.
2:20 （これもまたレパイムの国とみなされた。むかし、レパイムがここに住んでいたからである。しかし、アンモンびとは彼らをザムズミびとと呼んだ。
2:20 (That also was accounted a land of giants: giants dwelt therein in old time; and the Ammonites call them Zamzummims;
2:21 この民は大いなる民であって数も多く、アナクびとのように背も高かったが、主はアンモンびとの前から、これを滅ぼされ、アンモンびとがこれを追い払って、彼らに代ってそこに住んだ。
2:21 A people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; but the LORD destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their position:
2:22 この事は、セイルに住んでいるエサウの子孫のためにその前から、ホリびとを滅ぼされたのと同じである。彼らはホリびとを追い払い、これに代って今日までそこに住んでいる。
2:22 As he did to the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, when he destroyed the Horims from before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their position even unto this day:
2:23 またカフトルから出たカフトルびとは、ガザにまで及ぶ村々に住んでいたアビびとを滅ぼして、これに代ってそこに住んでいる。）
2:23 And the Avims which dwelt in Hazerim, even unto Azzah, the Caphtorims, which came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and dwelt in their position.)
2:24 あなたがたは立ちあがり、進んでアルノン川を渡りなさい。わたしはヘシボンの王アモリびとシホンとその国とを、おまえの手に渡した。それを征服し始めよ。彼と争って戦え。
2:24 Rise all of you up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into yours hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle.
2:25 きょうから、わたしは全天下の民に、おまえをおびえ恐れさせるであろう。彼らはおまえのうわさを聞いて震え、おまえのために苦しむであろう』。
2:25 This day will I begin to put the dread of you and the fear of you upon the nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of you, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of you.
2:26 そこでわたしは、ケデモテの荒野から、ヘシボンの王シホンに使者をつかわし、平和の言葉を述べさせた。
2:26 And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying,
2:27 『あなたの国を通らせてください。わたしは大路をとおっていきます、右にも左にも曲りません。
2:27 Let me pass through your land: I will go along by the high way, I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left.
2:28 金で食物を売ってわたしに食べさせ、金をとって水を与えてわたしに飲ませてください。徒歩で通らせてくださるだけでよいのです。
2:28 You shall sell me food for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only I will pass through on my feet;
2:29 セイルに住むエサウの子孫と、アルに住むモアブびとが、わたしにしたようにしてください。そうすれば、わたしはヨルダンを渡って、われわれの神、主が賜わる地に行きます』。
2:29 (As the children of Esau which dwell in Seir, and the Moabites which dwell in Ar, did unto me;) until I shall pass over Jordan into the land which the LORD our God gives us.
2:30 しかし、ヘシボンの王シホンは、われわれを通らせるのを好まなかった。あなたの神、主が彼をあなたの手に渡すため、その気を強くし、その心をかたくなにされたからである。今日見るとおりである。
2:30 But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him: for the LORD your God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into your hand, as appears this day.
2:31 時に主はわたしに言われた、『わたしはシホンと、その地とを、おまえに渡し始めた。おまえはそれを征服しはじめ、その地を自分のものとせよ』。
2:31 And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before you: begin to possess, that you may inherit his land.
2:32 そこでシホンは、われわれを攻めようとして、その民をことごとく率い、出てきてヤハズで戦ったが、
2:32 Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Jahaz.
2:33 われわれの神、主が彼を渡されたので、われわれは彼とその子らと、そのすべての民とを撃ち殺した。
2:33 And the LORD our God delivered him before us; and we stroke him, and his sons, and all his people.
2:34 その時、われわれは彼のすべての町を取り、そのすべての町の男、女および子供を全く滅ぼして、ひとりをも残さなかった。
2:34 And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain:
2:35 ただその家畜は、われわれが取った町々のぶんどり物と共に、われわれが獲て自分の物とした。
2:35 Only the cattle we took for a prey unto ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we took.
2:36 アルノンの谷のほとりにあるアロエルおよび谷の中にある町からギレアデに至るまで、われわれが攻めて取れなかった町は一つもなかった。われわれの神、主がことごとくわれわれに渡されたのである。
2:36 From Aroer, which is by the brink of the river of Arnon, and from the city that is by the river, even unto Gilead, there was not one city too strong for us: the LORD our God delivered all unto us:
2:37 ただアンモンの子孫の地、すなわちヤボク川の全岸、および山地の町々、またすべてわれわれの神、主が禁じられた所には近寄らなかった。
2:37 Only unto the land of the children of Ammon you came not, nor unto any place of the river Jabbok, nor unto the cities in the mountains, nor unto whatsoever the LORD our God forbad us.
3:1 そしてわれわれは身をめぐらして、バシャンの道を上って行ったが、バシャンの王オグは、われわれを迎え撃とうとして、その民をことごとく率い、出てきてエデレイで戦った。
3:1 Then we turned, and went up the way to Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.
3:2 時に主はわたしに言われた、『彼を恐れてはならない。わたしは彼と、そのすべての民と、その地をおまえの手に渡している。おまえはヘシボンに住んでいたアモリびとの王シホンにしたように、彼にするであろう』。
3:2 And the LORD said unto me, Fear him not: for I will deliver him, and all his people, and his land, into your hand; and you shall do unto him as you did unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.
3:3 こうしてわれわれの神、主はバシャンの王オグと、そのすべての民を、われわれの手に渡されたので、われわれはこれを撃ち殺して、ひとりをも残さなかった。
3:3 So the LORD our God delivered into our hands Og also, the king of Bashan, and all his people: and we stroke him until none was left to him remaining.
3:4 その時、われわれは彼の町々を、ことごとく取った。われわれが取らなかった町は一つもなかった。取った町は六十。アルゴブの全地方であって、バシャンにおけるオグの国である。
3:4 And we took all his cities at that time, there was not a city which we took not from them, threescore cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.
3:5 これらは皆、高い石がきがあり、門があり、貫の木のある堅固な町であった。このほかに石がきのない町は、非常に多かった。
3:5 All these cities were fenced with high walls, gates, and bars; beside towns without protective walls a great many.
3:6 われわれはヘシボンの王シホンにしたように、これらを全く滅ぼし、そのすべての町の男、女および子供をことごとく滅ぼした。
3:6 And we utterly destroyed them, as we did unto Sihon king of Heshbon, utterly destroying the men, women, and children, of every city.
3:7 ただし、そのすべての家畜と、その町々からのぶんどり物とは、われわれが獲て自分の物とした。
3:7 But all the cattle, and the spoil of the cities, we took for a prey to ourselves.
3:8 その時われわれはヨルダンの向こう側にいるアモリびとのふたりの王の手から、アルノン川からヘルモン山までの地を取った。
3:8 And we took at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites the land that was on this side Jordan, from the river of Arnon unto mount Hermon;
3:9 （シドンびとはヘルモンをシリオンと呼び、アモリびとはこれをセニルと呼んでいる。）
3:9 (Which Hermon the Sidonians call Sirion; and the Amorites call it Shenir;)
3:10 すなわち高原のすべての町、ギレアデの全地、バシャンの全地、サルカおよびエデレイまで、バシャンにあるオグの国の町々をことごとく取った。
3:10 All the cities of the plain, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, unto Salchah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.
3:11 （バシャンの王オグはレパイムのただひとりの生存者であった。彼の寝台は鉄の寝台であった。これは今なおアンモンびとのラバにあるではないか。これは普通のキュビト尺で、長さ九キュビト、幅四キュビトである。）
3:11 For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.
3:12 その時われわれは、この地を獲た。そしてわたしはアルノン川のほとりのアロエルから始まる地と、ギレアデの山地の半ばと、その町々とは、ルベンびとと、ガドびととに与えた。
3:12 And this land, which we possessed at that time, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, and half mount Gilead, and the cities thereof, gave I unto the Reubenites and to the Gadites.
3:13 わたしはまたギレアデの残りの地と、オグの国であったバシャンの全地とは、マナセの半部族に与えた。すなわちアルゴブの全地方である。（そのバシャンの全地はレパイムの国と唱えられる。
3:13 And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, being the kingdom of Og, gave I unto the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Bashan, which was called the land of giants.
3:14 マナセの子ヤイルは、アルゴブの全地方を取って、ゲシュルびとと、マアカびとの境にまで達し、自分の名にしたがって、バシャンをハボテ・ヤイルと名づけた。この名は今日にまでおよんでいる。）
3:14 Jair the son of Manasseh took all the country of Argob unto the coasts of Geshuri and Maachathi; and called them after his own name, Bashanhavothjair, unto this day.
3:15 またわたしはマキルにはギレアデを与えた。
3:15 And I gave Gilead unto Machir.
3:16 ルベンびとと、ガドびととには、ギレアデからアルノン川までを与え、その川のまん中をもって境とし、またアンモンびとの境であるヤボク川にまで達せしめた。
3:16 And unto the Reubenites and unto the Gadites I gave from Gilead even unto the river Arnon half the valley, and the border even unto the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon;
3:17 またヨルダンを境として、キンネレテからアラバの海すなわち塩の海まで、アラバをこれに与えて、東の方ピスガのふもとに達せしめた。
3:17 The plain also, and Jordan, and the coast thereof, from Chinnereth even unto the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, under Ashdothpisgah eastward.
3:18 その時わたしはあなたがたに命じて言った、『あなたがたの神、主はこの地をあなたがたに与えて、これを獲させられるから、あなたがた勇士はみな武装して、兄弟であるイスラエルの人々に先立って、渡って行かなければならない。
3:18 And I commanded you at that time, saying, The LORD your God has given you this land to possess it: all of you shall pass over armed before your brethren the children of Israel, all that are meet for the war.
3:19 ただし、あなたがたの妻と、子供と、家畜とは、わたしが与えた町々にとどまらなければならない。（わたしはあなたがたが多くの家畜を持っているのを知っている。）
3:19 But your wives, and your little ones, and your cattle, (for I know that all of you have much cattle,) shall abide in your cities which I have given you;
3:20 主がすでにあなたがたに与えられたように、あなたがたの兄弟にも安息を与えられて、彼らもまたヨルダンの向こう側で、あなたがたの神、主が与えられる地を獲るようになったならば、あなたがたはおのおのわたしがあなたがたに与えた領地に帰ることができる』。
3:20 Until the LORD have given rest unto your brethren, as well as unto you, and until they also possess the land which the LORD your God has given them beyond Jordan: and then shall all of you return every man unto his possession, which I have given you.
3:21 その時わたしはヨシュアに命じて言った、『あなたの目はあなたがたの神、主がこのふたりの王に行われたすべてのことを見た。主はまたあなたが渡って行くもろもろの国にも、同じように行われるであろう。
3:21 And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Yours eyes have seen all that the LORD your God has done unto these two kings: so shall the LORD do unto all the kingdoms where you pass.
3:22 彼らを恐れてはならない。あなたがたの神、主があなたがたのために戦われるからである』。
3:22 All of you shall not fear them: for the LORD your God he shall fight for you.
3:23 その時わたしは主に願って言った、
3:23 And I besought the LORD at that time, saying,
3:24 『主なる神よ、あなたの大いなる事と、あなたの強い手とを、たった今、しもべに示し始められました。天にも地にも、あなたのようなわざをなし、あなたのような力あるわざのできる神が、ほかにありましょうか。
3:24 O Lord GOD, you have begun to show your servant your greatness, and your mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to your works, and according to your might?
3:25 どうぞ、わたしにヨルダンを渡って行かせ、その向こう側の良い地、あの良い山地、およびレバノンを見ることのできるようにしてください』。
3:25 I pray you, let me go over, and see the good land that is beyond Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon.
3:26 しかし主はあなたがたのゆえにわたしを怒り、わたしに聞かれなかった。そして主はわたしに言われた、『おまえはもはや足りている。この事については、重ねてわたしに言ってはならない。
3:26 But the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, and would not hear me: and the LORD said unto me, Let it suffice you; speak no more unto me of this matter.
3:27 おまえはピスガの頂に登り、目をあげて西、北、南、東を望み見よ。おまえはこのヨルダンを渡ることができないからである。
3:27 Get you up into the top of Pisgah, and lift up yours eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold it with yours eyes: for you shall not go over this Jordan.
3:28 しかし、おまえはヨシュアに命じ、彼を励まし、彼を強くせよ。彼はこの民に先立って渡って行き、彼らにおまえの見る地を継がせるであろう』。
3:28 But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him: for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which you shall see.
3:29 こうしてわれわれはベテペオルに対する谷にとどまっていた。
3:29 So we abode in the valley opposite to Bethpeor.
4:1 イスラエルよ、いま、わたしがあなたがたに教える定めと、おきてとを聞いて、これを行いなさい。そうすれば、あなたがたは生きることができ、あなたがたの先祖の神、主が賜わる地にはいって、それを自分のものとすることができよう。
4:1 Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, in order to do them, that all of you may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers gives you.
4:2 わたしがあなたがたに命じる言葉に付け加えてはならない。また減らしてはならない。わたしが命じるあなたがたの神、主の命令を守ることのできるためである。
4:2 All of you shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall all of you diminish ought from it, that all of you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.
4:3 あなたがたの目は、主がバアル・ペオルで行われたことを見た。ペオルのバアルに従った人々は、あなたの神、主がことごとく、あなたのうちから滅ぼしつくされたのである。
4:3 Your eyes have seen what the LORD did because of Baalpeor: for all the men that followed Baalpeor, the LORD your God has destroyed them from among you.
4:4 しかし、あなたがたの神、主につき従ったあなたがたは皆、きょう、生きながらえている。
4:4 But all of you that did cleave unto the LORD your God are alive every one of you this day.
4:5 わたしはわたしの神、主が命じられたとおりに、定めと、おきてとを、あなたがたに教える。あなたがたがはいって、自分のものとする地において、そのように行うためである。
4:5 Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that all of you should do so in the land where all of you go to possess it.
4:6 あなたがたは、これを守って行わなければならない。これは、もろもろの民にあなたがたの知恵、また知識を示す事である。彼らは、このもろもろの定めを聞いて、『この大いなる国民は、まことに知恵あり、知識ある民である』と言うであろう。
4:6 Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.
4:7 われわれの神、主は、われわれが呼び求める時、つねにわれわれに近くおられる。いずれの大いなる国民に、このように近くおる神があるであろうか。
4:7 For what nation is there so great, who has God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for?
4:8 また、いずれの大いなる国民に、きょう、わたしがあなたがたの前に立てるこのすべての律法のような正しい定めと、おきてとがあるであろうか。
4:8 And what nation is there so great, that has statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?
4:9 ただあなたはみずから慎み、またあなた自身をよく守りなさい。そして目に見たことを忘れず、生きながらえている間、それらの事をあなたの心から離してはならない。またそれらのことを、あなたの子孫に知らせなければならない。
4:9 Only take heed to yourself, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things which yours eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life: but teach them your sons, and your sons' sons;
4:10 あなたがホレブにおいて、あなたの神、主の前に立った日に、主はわたしに言われた、『民をわたしのもとに集めよ。わたしは彼らにわたしの言葉を聞かせ、地上に生きながらえる間、彼らにわたしを恐れることを学ばせ、またその子供を教えることのできるようにさせよう』。
4:10 Specially the day that you stood before the LORD your God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.
4:11 そこであなたがたは近づいて、山のふもとに立ったが、山は火で焼けて、その炎は中天に達し、暗黒と雲と濃い雲とがあった。
4:11 And all of you came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire unto the midst of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness.
4:12 時に主は火の中から、あなたがたに語られたが、あなたがたは言葉の声を聞いたけれども、声ばかりで、なんの形も見なかった。
4:12 And the LORD spoke unto you out of the midst of the fire: all of you heard the voice of the words, but saw no embodiment; only all of you heard a voice.
4:13 主はその契約を述べて、それを行うように、あなたがたに命じられた。それはすなわち十誡であって、主はそれを二枚の石の板に書きしるされた。
4:13 And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.
4:14 その時、主はわたしに命じて、あなたがたに定めと、おきてとを教えさせられた。あなたがたが渡って行って自分のものとする地で、行わせるためであった。
4:14 And the LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that all of you might do them in the land where all of you go over to possess it.
4:15 それゆえ、あなたがたはみずから深く慎まなければならない。ホレブで主が火の中からあなたがたに語られた日に、あなたがたはなんの形も見なかった。
4:15 Take all of you therefore good heed unto yourselves; for all of you saw no manner of embodiment on the day that the LORD spoke unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire:
4:16 それであなたがたは道を誤って、自分のために、どんな形の刻んだ像をも造ってはならない。男または女の像を造ってはならない。
4:16 Lest all of you corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the embodiment of any figure, the likeness of male or female,
4:17 すなわち地の上におるもろもろの獣の像、空を飛ぶもろもろの鳥の像、
4:17 The likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flies in the air,
4:18 地に這うもろもろの物の像、地の下の水の中におるもろもろの魚の像を造ってはならない。
4:18 The likeness of any thing that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth:
4:19 あなたはまた目を上げて天を望み、日、月、星すなわちすべて天の万象を見、誘惑されてそれを拝み、それに仕えてはならない。それらのものは、あなたの神、主が全天下の万民に分けられたものである。
4:19 And lest you lift up yours eyes unto heaven, and when you see the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, should be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD your God has divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.
4:20 しかし、主はあなたがたを取って、鉄の炉すなわちエジプトから導き出し、自分の所有の民とされた。きょう、見るとおりである。
4:20 But the LORD has taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, even out of Egypt, to be unto him a people of inheritance, as all of you are this day.
4:21 ところで主はあなたがたのゆえに、わたしを怒り、わたしがヨルダンを渡って行くことができないことと、あなたの神、主が嗣業としてあなたに賜わる良い地にはいることができないこととを誓われた。
4:21 Furthermore the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, and swore that I should not go over Jordan, and that I should not go in unto that good land, which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance:
4:22 わたしはこの地で死ぬ。ヨルダンを渡って行くことはできない。しかしあなたがたは渡って行って、あの良い地を獲るであろう。
4:22 But I must die in this land, I must not go over Jordan: but all of you shall go over, and possess that good land.
4:23 あなたがたは慎み、あなたがたの神、主があなたがたと結ばれた契約を忘れて、あなたの神、主が禁じられたどんな形の刻んだ像をも造ってはならない。
4:23 Take heed unto yourselves, lest all of you forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, which the LORD your God has forbidden you.
4:24 あなたの神、主は焼きつくす火、ねたむ神である。
4:24 For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.
4:25 あなたがたが子を生み、孫を得、長くその地におるうちに、道を誤って、すべて何かの形に刻んだ像を造り、あなたの神、主の目の前に悪をなして、その憤りを引き起すことがあれば、
4:25 When you shall brought forth children, and children's children, and all of you shall have remained long in the land, and shall corrupt yourselves, and make a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, and shall do evil in the sight of the LORD your God, to provoke him to anger:
4:26 わたしは、きょう、天と地を呼んであなたがたに対してあかしとする。あなたがたはヨルダンを渡って行って獲る地から、たちまち全滅するであろう。あなたがたはその所で長く命を保つことができず、全く滅ぼされるであろう。
4:26 I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that all of you shall soon utterly perish from off the land unto which all of you go over Jordan to possess it; all of you shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed.
4:27 主はあなたがたを国々に散らされるであろう。そして主があなたがたを追いやられる国民のうちに、あなたがたの残る者の数は少ないであろう。
4:27 And the LORD shall scatter you among the nations, and all of you shall be left few in number among the heathen, where the LORD shall lead you.
4:28 その所であなたがたは人が手で作った、見ることも、聞くことも、食べることも、かぐこともない木や石の神々に仕えるであろう。
4:28 And there all of you shall serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.
4:29 しかし、その所からあなたの神、主を求め、もし心をつくし、精神をつくして、主を求めるならば、あなたは主に会うであろう。
4:29 But if from thence you shall seek the LORD your God, you shall find him, if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.
4:30 後の日になって、あなたがなやみにあい、これらのすべての事が、あなたに臨むとき、もしあなたの神、主に立ち帰ってその声に聞きしたがうならば、
4:30 When you are in tribulation, and all these things are come upon you, even in the latter days, if you turn to the LORD your God, and shall be obedient unto his voice;
4:31 あなたの神、主はいつくしみの深い神であるから、あなたを捨てず、あなたを滅ぼさず、またあなたの先祖に誓った契約を忘れられないであろう。
4:31 (For the LORD your God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake you, neither destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which he swore unto them.
4:32 試みにあなたの前に過ぎ去った日について問え。神が地上に人を造られた日からこのかた、天のこの端から、かの端までに、かつてこのように大いなる事があったであろうか。このようなことを聞いたことがあったであろうか。
4:32 For ask now of the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and ask from the one side of heaven unto the other, whether there has been any such thing as this great thing is, or has been heard like it?
4:33 火の中から語られる神の声をあなたが聞いたように、聞いてなお生きていた民がかつてあったであろうか。
4:33 Did ever people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and live?
4:34 あるいはまた、あなたがたの神、主がエジプトにおいて、あなたがたの目の前に、あなたがたのためにもろもろの事をなされたように、試みと、しるしと、不思議と、戦いと、強い手と、伸ばした腕と、大いなる恐るべき事とをもって臨み、一つの国民を他の国民のうちから引き出して、自分の民とされた神が、かつてあったであろうか。
4:34 Or has God assayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?
4:35 あなたにこの事を示したのは、主こそ神であって、ほかに神のないことを知らせるためであった。
4:35 Unto you it was showed, that you might know that the LORD he is God; there is none else beside him.
4:36 あなたを訓練するために、主は天からその声を聞かせ、地上では、またその大いなる火を示された。あなたはその言葉が火の中から出るのを聞いた。
4:36 Out of heaven he made you to hear his voice, that he might instruct you: and upon earth he showed you his great fire; and you heard his words out of the midst of the fire.
4:37 主はあなたの先祖たちを愛されたので、その後の子孫を選び、大いなる力をもって、みずからあなたをエジプトから導き出し、
4:37 And because he loved your fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them, and brought you out in his sight with his mighty power out of Egypt;
4:38 あなたよりも大きく、かつ強いもろもろの国民を、あなたの前から追い払い、あなたをその地に導き入れて、これを嗣業としてあなたに与えようとされること、今日見るとおりである。
4:38 To drive out nations from before you greater and mightier than you are, to bring you in, to give you their land for an inheritance, as it is this day.
4:39 それゆえ、あなたは、きょう知って、心にとめなければならない。上は天、下は地において、主こそ神にいまし、ほかに神のないことを。
4:39 Know therefore this day, and consider it in yours heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.
4:40 あなたは、きょう、わたしが命じる主の定めと命令とを守らなければならない。そうすれば、あなたとあなたの後の子孫はさいわいを得、あなたの神、主が永久にあなたに賜わる地において、長く命を保つことができるであろう」。
4:40 You shall keep therefore his statutes, and his commandments, which I command you this day, that it may go well with you, and with your children after you, and that you may prolong your days upon the earth, which the LORD your God gives you, for ever.
4:41 それからモーセはヨルダンの向こう側、東の方に三つの町々を指定した。
4:41 Then Moses severed three cities on this side Jordan toward the sunrising;
4:42 過去の恨みによるのではなく、あやまって隣人を殺した者をそこにのがれさせ、その町の一つにのがれて、命を全うさせるためであった。
4:42 That the slayer might flee thither, which should kill his neighbour unexpectedly, and hated him not in times past; and that fleeing unto one of these cities he might live:
4:43 すなわちルベンびとのためには荒野の中の高地にあるベゼルを、ガドびとのためにはギレアデのラモテを、マナセびとのためにはバシャンのゴランを定めた。
4:43 Namely, Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain country, of the Reubenites; and Ramoth in Gilead, of the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, of the Manassites.
4:44 モーセがイスラエルの人々の前に示した律法はこれである。
4:44 And this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel:
4:45 イスラエルの人々がエジプトから出たとき、モーセが彼らに述べたあかしと、定めと、おきてとはこれである。
4:45 These are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which Moses spoke unto the children of Israel, after they came forth out of Egypt.
4:46 すなわちヨルダンの向こう側、アモリびとの王シホンの国のベテペオルに対する谷においてこれを述べた。シホンはヘシボンに住んでいたが、モーセとイスラエルの人々が、エジプトを出てきた時、これを撃ち敗って、
4:46 On this side Jordan, in the valley opposite to Bethpeor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon, whom Moses and the children of Israel stroke, after they were come forth out of Egypt:
4:47 その国を獲、またバシャンの王オグの国を獲た。このふたりはアモリびとの王であって、ヨルダンの向こう側、東の方におった。
4:47 And they possessed his land, and the land of Og king of Bashan, two kings of the Amorites, which were on this side Jordan toward the sunrising;
4:48 彼らの獲た地はアルノン川のほとりにあるアロエルからシリオン山すなわちヘルモンに及び、
4:48 From Aroer, which is by the bank of the river Arnon, even unto mount Sion, which is Hermon,
4:49 ヨルダンの東側のアラバの全部をかねて、アラバの海に達し、ピスガのふもとに及んだ。
4:49 And all the plain on this side Jordan eastward, even unto the sea of the plain, under the springs of Pisgah.
5:1 さてモーセはイスラエルのすべての人を召し寄せて言った、「イスラエルよ、きょう、わたしがあなたがたの耳に語る定めと、おきてを聞き、これを学び、これを守って行え。
5:1 And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day, that all of you may learn them, and keep, and do them.
5:2 われわれの神、主はホレブで、われわれと契約を結ばれた。
5:2 The LORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.
5:3 主はこの契約をわれわれの先祖たちとは結ばず、きょう、ここに生きながらえているわれわれすべての者と結ばれた。
5:3 The LORD made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day.
5:4 主は山で火の中から、あなたがたと顔を合わせて語られた。
5:4 The LORD talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire,
5:5 その時、わたしは主とあなたがたとの間に立って主の言葉をあなたがたに伝えた。あなたがたは火のゆえに恐れて山に登ることができなかったからである。主は言われた、
5:5 (I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to show you the word of the LORD: for all of you were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount;) saying,
5:6 『わたしはあなたの神、主であって、あなたをエジプトの地、奴隷の家から導き出した者である。
5:6 I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
5:7 あなたはわたしのほかに何ものをも神としてはならない。
5:7 You shall have no other gods before me.

5:11 You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that takes his name in vain.

5:12 Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD your God has commanded you.

5:14 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD your God: in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor yours ox, nor yours ass, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates; that your manservant and your maidservant may rest as well as you.

5:26 For who is there of all flesh, that has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?

5:27 Go you near, and hear all that the LORD our God shall say: and speak you unto us all that the LORD our God shall speak unto you; and we will hear it, and do it.

6:1 Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that all of you might do them in the land where all of you go to possess it:

6:19 To cast out all yours enemies from before you, as the LORD has spoken.

8:8 小麦、大麦、ぶどう、いちじく及びざくろのある地、油のオリブの木、および蜜のある地、
8:8 A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey;
8:9 あなたが食べる食物に欠けることなく、なんの乏しいこともない地である。その地の石は鉄であって、その山からは銅を掘り取ることができる。
8:9 A land wherein you shall eat bread without scarceness, you shall not lack any thing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you may dig brass.
8:10 あなたは食べて飽き、あなたの神、主がその良い地を賜わったことを感謝するであろう。
8:10 When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land which he has given you.
8:11 あなたは、きょう、わたしが命じる主の命令と、おきてと、定めとを守らず、あなたの神、主を忘れることのないように慎まなければならない。
8:11 Beware that you forget not the LORD your God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command you this day:
8:12 あなたは食べて飽き、麗しい家を建てて住み、
8:12 Lest when you have eaten and are full, and have built goodly houses, and dwelt therein;
8:13 また牛や羊がふえ、金銀が増し、持ち物がみな増し加わるとき、
8:13 And when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold is multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied;
8:14 おそらく心にたかぶり、あなたの神、主を忘れるであろう。主はあなたをエジプトの地、奴隷の家から導き出し、
8:14 Then yours heart be lifted up, and you forget the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;
8:15 あなたを導いて、あの大きな恐ろしい荒野、すなわち火のへびや、さそりがいて、水のない、かわいた地を通り、あなたのために堅い岩から水を出し、
8:15 Who led you through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who brought you forth water out of the rock of flint;
8:16 先祖たちも知らなかったマナを荒野であなたに食べさせられた。それはあなたを苦しめ、あなたを試みて、ついにはあなたをさいわいにするためであった。
8:16 Who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers knew not, that he might humble you, and that he might prove you, to do you good at your latter end;
8:17 あなたは心のうちに『自分の力と自分の手の働きで、わたしはこの富を得た』と言ってはならない。
8:17 And you say in yours heart, My power and the might of mine hand has got me this wealth.
8:18 あなたはあなたの神、主を覚えなければならない。主はあなたの先祖たちに誓われた契約を今日のように行うために、あなたに富を得る力を与えられるからである。
8:18 But you shall remember the LORD your God: for it is he that gives you power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he swore unto your fathers, as it is this day.
8:19 もしあなたの神、主を忘れて他の神々に従い、これに仕え、これを拝むならば、――わたしは、きょう、あなたがたに警告する。――あなたがたはきっと滅びるであろう。
8:19 And it shall be, if you do at all forget the LORD your God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that all of you shall surely perish.
8:20 主があなたがたの前から滅ぼし去られる国々の民のように、あなたがたも滅びるであろう。あなたがたの神、主の声に従わないからである。
8:20 As the nations which the LORD destroys before your face, so shall all of you perish; because all of you would not be obedient unto the voice of the LORD your God.
9:1 イスラエルよ、聞きなさい。あなたは、きょう、ヨルダンを渡って行って、あなたよりも大きく、かつ強い国々を取ろうとしている。その町々は大きく、石がきは天に達している。
9:1 Hear, O Israel: You are to pass over Jordan this day, to go in to possess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fenced up to heaven,
9:2 その民は、あなたの知っているアナクびとの子孫であって、大きく、また背が高い。あなたはまた『アナクの子孫の前に、だれが立つことができようか』と人の言うのを聞いた。
9:2 A people great and tall, the children of the Anakims, whom you know, and of whom you have heard say, Who can stand before the children of Anak!
9:3 それゆえ、あなたは、きょう、あなたの神、主は焼きつくす火であって、あなたの前に進まれることを知らなければならない。主は彼らを滅ぼし、彼らをあなたの前に屈伏させられるであろう。主があなたに言われたように、彼らを追い払い、すみやかに滅ぼさなければならない。
9:3 Understand therefore this day, that the LORD your God is he which goes over before you; as a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before your face: so shall you drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as the LORD has said unto you.
9:4 あなたの神、主があなたの前から彼らを追い払われた後に、あなたは心のなかで『わたしが正しいから主はわたしをこの地に導き入れてこれを獲させられた』と言ってはならない。この国々の民が悪いから、主はこれをあなたの前から追い払われるのである。
9:4 Speak not you in yours heart, after that the LORD your God has cast them out from before you, saying, For my righteousness the LORD has brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD does drive them out from before you.
9:5 あなたが行ってその地を獲るのは、あなたが正しいからではなく、またあなたの心がまっすぐだからでもない。この国々の民が悪いから、あなたの神、主は彼らをあなたの前から追い払われるのである。これは主があなたの先祖アブラハム、イサク、ヤコブに誓われた言葉を行われるためである。
9:5 Not for your righteousness, or for the uprightness of yours heart, do you go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD your God does drive them out from before you, and that he may perform the word which the LORD swore unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
9:6 それであなたは、あなたの神、主があなたにこの良い地を与えてこれを得させられるのは、あなたが正しいからではないことを知らなければならない。あなたは強情な民である。
9:6 Understand therefore, that the LORD your God gives you not this good land to possess it for your righteousness; for you are a stubborn people.
9:7 あなたは荒野であなたの神、主を怒らせたことを覚え、それを忘れてはならない。あなたがたはエジプトの地を出た日からこの所に来るまで、いつも主にそむいた。
9:7 Remember, and forget not, how you provoked the LORD your God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that you did depart out of the land of Egypt, until all of you came unto this place, all of you have been rebellious against the LORD.
9:8 またホレブにおいてさえ、あなたがたが主を怒らせたので、主は怒ってあなたがたを滅ぼそうとされた。
9:8 Also in Horeb all of you provoked the LORD to wrath, so that the LORD was angry with you to have destroyed you.
9:9 わたしが石の板すなわち主があなたがたと結ばれた契約の板を受けるために山に登った時、わたしは四十日四十夜、山にいて、パンも食べず水も飲まなかった。
9:9 When I was gone up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant which the LORD made with you, then I abode in the mount forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat bread nor drink water:
9:10 主は神の指をもって書きしるした石の板二枚をわたしに授けられた。その上には、集会の日に主が山で火の中から、あなたがたに告げられた言葉が、ことごとく書いてあった。
9:10 And the LORD delivered unto me two tables of stone written with the finger of God; and on them was written according to all the words, which the LORD spoke with you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.
9:11 すなわち四十日四十夜が終った時、主はわたしにその契約の板である石の板二枚を授け、
9:11 And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the LORD gave me the two tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant.
9:12 そして主はわたしに言われた、『おまえは立って、すみやかにこの所から降りなさい。おまえがエジプトから導き出した民は悪を行ったからである。彼らはわたしが命じた道を早くも離れて、鋳た像を自分たちのために造った』。
9:12 And the LORD said unto me, Arise, get you down quickly from behind; for your people which you have brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they are quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; they have made them a molten image.
9:13 主はまたわたしに言われた、『この民を見るのに、これは強情な民である。
9:13 Furthermore the LORD spoke unto me, saying, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stubborn people:
9:14 わたしを止めるな。わたしは彼らを滅ぼし、彼らの名を天の下から消し去り、おまえを彼らよりも強く、かつ大いなる国民としよう』。
9:14 Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven: and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.
9:15 そこでわたしは身をめぐらして山を降りたが、山は火で焼けていた。契約の板二枚はわたしの両手にあった。
9:15 So I turned and came down from the mount, and the mount burned with fire: and the two tables of the covenant were in my two hands.
9:16 そしてわたしが見ると、あなたがたは、あなたがたの神、主にむかって罪を犯し、自分たちのために鋳物の子牛を造って、主が命じられた道を早くも離れたので、
9:16 And I looked, and, behold, all of you had sinned against the LORD your God, and had made you a molten calf: all of you had turned aside quickly out of the way which the LORD had commanded you.
9:17 わたしはその二枚の板をつかんで、両手から投げ出し、あなたがたの目の前でこれを砕いた。
9:17 And I took the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and brake them before your eyes.
9:18 そしてわたしは前のように四十日四十夜、主の前にひれ伏し、パンも食べず、水も飲まなかった。これはあなたがたが主の目の前に悪をおこない、罪を犯して主を怒らせたすべての罪によるのである。
9:18 And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which all of you sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
9:19 主は怒りを発し、憤りを起し、あなたがたを怒って滅ぼそうとされたので、わたしは恐れたが、その時もまた主はわたしの願いを聞かれた。
9:19 For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, wherewith the LORD was angry against you to destroy you. But the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also.
9:20 主はまた、はなはだしくアロンを怒って、彼を滅ぼそうとされたが、わたしはその時もまたアロンのために祈った。
9:20 And the LORD was very angry with Aaron to have destroyed him: and I prayed for Aaron also the same time.
9:21 わたしはあなたがたが造って罪を得た子牛を取り、それを火で焼き、それを撃ち砕き、よくひいて細かいちりとし、そのちりを山から流れ下る谷川に投げ捨てた。
9:21 And I took your sin, the calf which all of you had made, and burnt it with fire, and stamped it, and ground it very small, even until it was as small as dust: and I cast the dust thereof into the brook that descended out of the mount.
9:22 あなたがたはタベラ、マッサおよびキブロテ・ハッタワにおいてもまた主を怒らせた。
9:22 And at Taberah, and at Massah, and at Kibrothhattaavah, all of you provoked the LORD to wrath.
9:23 また主はカデシ・バルネアから、あなたがたをつかわそうとされた時、『上って行って、わたしが与える地を占領せよ』と言われた。ところが、あなたがたはあなたがたの神、主の命令にそむき、彼を信ぜず、また彼の声に聞き従わなかった。
9:23 Likewise when the LORD sent you from Kadeshbarnea, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then all of you rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and all of you believed him not, nor hearkened to his voice.
9:24 わたしがあなたがたを知ったその日からこのかた、あなたがたはいつも主にそむいた。
9:24 All of you have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.
9:25 そしてわたしは、さきにひれ伏したように、四十日四十夜、主の前にひれ伏した。主があなたがたを滅ぼすと言われたからである。
9:25 Thus I fell down before the LORD forty days and forty nights, as I fell down at the first; because the LORD had said he would destroy you.
9:26 わたしは主に祈って言った、『主なる神よ、あなたが大いなる力をもってあがない、強い手をもってエジプトから導き出されたあなたの民、あなたの嗣業を滅ぼさないでください。
9:26 I prayed therefore unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, destroy not your people and yours inheritance, which you have redeemed through your greatness, which you have brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
9:27 あなたのしもべアブラハム、イサク、ヤコブを覚えてください。この民の強情と悪と罪とに目をとめないでください。
9:27 Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; look not unto the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin:
9:28 あなたがわれわれを導き出された国の人はおそらく、「主は、約束した地に彼らを導き入れることができず、また彼らを憎んだので、彼らを導き出して荒野で殺したのだ」と言うでしょう。
9:28 Lest the land whence you brought us out say, Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, and because he hated them, he has brought them out to slay them in the wilderness.
9:29 しかし彼らは、あなたの民、あなたの嗣業であって、あなたが大いなる力と伸ばした腕とをもって導き出されたのです』。
9:29 Yet they are your people and yours inheritance, which you brought out by your mighty power and by your stretched out arm.
10:1 その時、主はわたしに言われた、『おまえは、前のような石の板二枚を切って作り、山に登って、わたしのもとにきなさい。また木の箱一つを作りなさい。
10:1 At that time the LORD said unto me, Hew you two tables of stone like unto the first, and come up unto me into the mount, and make you an ark of wood.
10:2 さきにおまえが砕いた二枚の板に書いてあった言葉を、わたしはその板に書きしるそう。おまえはそれをその箱におさめなければならない』。
10:2 And I will write on the tables the words that were in the first tables which you brake, and you shall put them in the ark.
10:3 そこでわたしはアカシヤ材の箱一つを作り、また前のような石の板二枚を切って作り、その二枚の板を手に持って山に登った。
10:3 And I made an ark of shittim wood, and hewed two tables of stone like unto the first, and went up into the mount, having the two tables in mine hand.
10:4 主はかつて、かの集会の日に山で火の中からあなたがたに告げられた十誡を書きしるされたように、その板に書きしるし、それを主はわたしに授けられた。
10:4 And he wrote on the tables, according to the first writing, the ten commandments, which the LORD spoke unto you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly: and the LORD gave them unto me.
10:5 それでわたしは身をめぐらして山から降り、その板を、わたしが作った箱におさめた。今なおその中にある。主がわたしに命じられたとおりである。
10:5 And I turned myself and came down from the mount, and put the tables in the ark which I had made; and there they be, as the LORD commanded me.
10:6 （こうしてイスラエルの人々はベエロテ・ベネ・ヤカンを出立してモセラに着いた。アロンはその所で死んでそこに葬られ、その子エレアザルが彼に代って祭司となった。
10:6 And the children of Israel took their journey from Beeroth of the children of Jaakan to Mosera: there Aaron died, and there he was buried; and Eleazar his son ministered in the priest's office in his position.
10:7 またそこを出立してグデゴダに至り、グデゴダを出立してヨテバタに着いた。この地には多くの水の流れがあった。
10:7 From thence they journeyed unto Gudgodah; and from Gudgodah to Jotbath, a land of rivers of waters.
10:8 その時、主はレビの部族を選んで、主の契約の箱をかつぎ、主の前に立って仕え、また主の名をもって祝福することをさせられた。この事は今日に及んでいる。
10:8 At that time the LORD separated the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister unto him, and to bless in his name, unto this day.
10:9 そのためレビは兄弟たちと一緒には分け前がなく、嗣業もない。あなたの神、主が彼に言われたとおり、主みずからが彼の嗣業であった。）
10:9 Wherefore Levi has no part nor inheritance with his brethren; the LORD is his inheritance, according as the LORD your God promised him.
10:10 わたしは前の時のように四十日四十夜、山におったが、主はその時にもわたしの願いを聞かれた。主はあなたを滅ぼすことを望まれなかった。
10:10 And I stayed in the mount, according to the first time, forty days and forty nights; and the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also, and the LORD would not destroy you.
10:11 そして主はわたしに『おまえは立ちあがり、民に先立って進み行き、わたしが彼らに与えると、その先祖に誓った地に彼らをはいらせ、それを取らせよ』と言われた。
10:11 And the LORD said unto me, Arise, take your journey before the people, that they may go in and possess the land, which I swore unto their fathers to give unto them.
10:12 イスラエルよ、今、あなたの神、主があなたに求められる事はなんであるか。ただこれだけである。すなわちあなたの神、主を恐れ、そのすべての道に歩んで、彼を愛し、心をつくし、精神をつくしてあなたの神、主に仕え、
10:12 And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,
10:13 また、わたしがきょうあなたに命じる主の命令と定めとを守って、さいわいを得ることである。
10:13 To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command you this day for your good?
10:14 見よ、天と、もろもろの天の天、および地と、地にあるものとはみな、あなたの神、主のものである。
10:14 Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens is the LORD's your God, the earth also, with all that therein is.
10:15 そうであるのに、主はただあなたの先祖たちを喜び愛し、その後の子孫であるあなたがたを万民のうちから選ばれた。今日見るとおりである。
10:15 Only the LORD had a delight in your fathers to love them, and he chose their seed after them, even you above all people, as it is this day.
10:16 それゆえ、あなたがたは心に割礼をおこない、もはや強情であってはならない。
10:16 Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stubborn.
10:17 あなたがたの神である主は、神の神、主の主、大いにして力ある恐るべき神にましまし、人をかたより見ず、また、まいないを取らず、
10:17 For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regards not persons, nor takes reward:
10:18 みなし子とやもめのために正しいさばきを行い、また寄留の他国人を愛して、食物と着物を与えられるからである。
10:18 He does execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loves the stranger, in giving him food and raiment.
10:19 それゆえ、あなたがたは寄留の他国人を愛しなさい。あなたがたもエジプトの国で寄留の他国人であった。
10:19 Love all of you therefore the stranger: for all of you were strangers in the land of Egypt.
10:20 あなたの神、主を恐れ、彼に仕え、彼に従い、その名をさして誓わなければならない。
10:20 You shall fear the LORD your God; him shall you serve, and to him shall you cleave, and swear by his name.
10:21 彼はあなたのさんびすべきもの、またあなたの神であって、あなたが目に見たこれらの大いなる恐るべき事を、あなたのために行われた。
10:21 He is your praise, and he is your God, that has done for you these great and terrible things, which yours eyes have seen.
10:22 あなたの先祖たちは、わずか七十人でエジプトに下ったが、いま、あなたの神、主はあなたを天の星のように多くされた。
10:22 Your fathers went down into Egypt with threescore and ten persons; and now the LORD your God has made you as the stars of heaven for multitude.
