1:1 わたしたちの間に成就された出来事を、最初から親しく見た人々であって、
1:1 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,
1:2 御言に仕えた人々が伝えたとおり物語に書き連ねようと、多くの人が手を着けましたが、
1:2 Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word; (o. logos)
1:3 テオピロ閣下よ、わたしもすべての事を初めから詳しく調べていますので、ここに、それを順序正しく書きつづって、閣下に献じることにしました。
1:3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto you in order, most excellent Theophilus,
1:4 すでにお聞きになっている事が確実であることを、これによって十分に知っていただきたいためであります。
1:4 That you might know the certainty of those things, (o. logos) wherein you have been instructed.
1:5 ユダヤの王ヘロデの世に、アビヤの組の祭司で名をザカリヤという者がいた。その妻はアロン家の娘のひとりで、名をエリサベツと言った。
1:5 THERE was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.
1:6 ふたりとも神のみまえに正しい人であって、主の戒めと定めとを、みな落度なく行っていた。
1:6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
1:7 ところが、エリサベツは不妊の女であったため、彼らには子がなく、そしてふたりともすでに年老いていた。
1:7 And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years.
1:8 さてザカリヤは、その組が当番になり神のみ前に祭司の努めをしていたとき、
1:8 And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest's office before God in the order of his course,
1:9 祭司職の慣例に従ってくじを引いたところ、主の聖所にはいって香をたくことになった。
1:9 According to the custom of the priest's office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.
1:10 香をたいている間、多くの民衆はみな外で祈っていた。
1:10 And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense.
1:11 すると主の御使が現れて、香壇の右に立った。
1:11 And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
1:12 ザカリヤはこれを見て、おじ惑い、恐怖の念に襲われた。
1:12 And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
1:13 そこで御使が彼に言った、「恐れるな、ザカリヤよ、あなたの祈りが聞きいれられたのだ。あなたの妻エリサベツは男の子を産むであろう。その子をヨハネと名づけなさい。
1:13 But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elisabeth shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name John.
1:14 彼はあなたに喜びと楽しみとをもたらし、多くの人々もその誕生を喜ぶであろう。
1:14 And you shall have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.
1:15 彼は主のみまえに大いなる者となり、ぶどう酒や強い酒をいっさい飲まず、母の胎内にいる時からすでに聖霊に満たされており、
1:15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit, (o. pneuma) even from his mother's womb.
1:16 そして、イスラエルの多くの子らを、主なる彼らの神に立ち帰らせるであろう。
1:16 And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.
1:17 彼はエリヤの霊と力とをもって、みまえに先立って行き、父の心を子に向けさせ、逆らう者に義人の思いを持たせて、整えられた民を主に備えるであろう」。
1:17 And he shall go before him in the spirit (o. pneuma) and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
1:18 するとザカリヤは御使に言った、「どうしてそんな事が、わたしにわかるでしょうか。わたしは老人ですし、妻も年をとっています」。
1:18 And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.
1:19 御使が答えて言った、「わたしは神のみまえに立つガブリエルであって、この喜ばしい知らせをあなたに語り伝えるために、つかわされたものである。
1:19 And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto you, and to show you these glad tidings.
1:20 時が来れば成就するわたしの言葉を信じなかったら、あなたは口がきけなくなり、この事の起こる日まで、ものが言えなくなる」。
1:20 And, behold, you shall be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because you believe not my words, (o. logos) which shall be fulfilled in their season.
1:21 民衆はザカリヤを待っていたので、彼が聖所内で暇どっているのを不思議に思っていた。
1:21 And the people waited for Zacharias, and marvelled that he tarried so long in the temple.
1:22 ついに彼が出てきたが、物が言えなかったので、人々は彼が聖所内でまぼろしを見たのだと悟った。彼は彼らに合図するだけで、引きつづき、口がきけないままでいた。
1:22 And when he came out, he could not speak unto them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: for he beckoned unto them, and remained speechless.
1:23 それから努めの期日が終わったので、家に帰った。
1:23 And it came to pass, that, as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house.
1:24 そののち、妻エリサベツはみごもり、五か月のあいだ引きこもっていたが、
1:24 And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying,
1:25 「主は、今わたしを心にかけてくださって、人々の間からわたしの恥を取り除くために、こうしてくださいました」と言った。
1:25 Thus has the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.
1:26 六か月目に、御使ガブリエルが、神からつかわされて、ナザレというガリラヤの町の一処女のもとにきた。
1:26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
1:27 この処女はダビデ家の出であるヨセフという人のいいなづけになっていて、名をマリヤといった。
1:27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
1:28 御使がマリヤのところにきて言った、「恵まれた女よ、おめでとう、主があなたと共におられます」。
1:28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, you that are highly favoured, the Lord is with you: blessed are you among women.
1:29 この言葉にマリヤはひどく胸騒ぎがして、このあいさつはなんの事であろかと、思いをめぐらしていた。
1:29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, (o. logos) and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
1:30 すると御使が言った、「恐れるな、マリヤよ、おなたは神から恵みをいただいているのです。
1:30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for you have found favour with God.
1:31 見よ、あなたはみごもって男の子を産むでしょう。その子をイエスと名づけなさい。
1:31 And, behold, you shall conceive in your womb, and bring forth a son, and shall call his name JESUS.
1:32 彼は大いなる者となり、いと高き者の子と、となえられるでしょう。そして、主なる神は彼に父ダビデの王座をお与えになり、
1:32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
1:33 彼はとこしえにヤコブの家を支配し、その支配は限りなく続くでしょう」。
1:33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
1:34 そこでマリヤは御使に言った、「どうして、そんな事があり得ましょうか。わたしにはまだ夫がありませんのに」。
1:34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
1:35 御使が答えて言った、「聖霊があなたに臨み、いと高き者の力があなたをおおうでしょう。それゆえに、生まれ出る子は聖なるものであり、神の子と、となえられるでしょう。
1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Spirit (o. pneuma) shall come upon you, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow you: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of you shall be called the Son of God.
1:36 あなたの親族エリサベツも老年ながら子を宿しています。不妊の女といわれていたのに、はや六か月になっています。
1:36 And, behold, your cousin Elisabeth, she has also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
1:37 神には、なんでもできないことはありません」。
1:37 For with God nothing (o. rhema) shall be impossible.
1:38 そこでマリヤが言った、「わたしは主のはしためです。お言葉どおりこの身に成りますように」。そして御使は彼女から離れて行った。
1:38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to your word. (o. rhema) And the angel departed from her.
1:39 そのころ、マリヤは立って、大急ぎで山里へむかいユダの町に行き、
1:39 And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda;
1:40 ザカリヤの家にはいってエリサベツにあいさつした。
1:40 And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth.
1:41 エリサベツがマリヤのあいさつを聞いたとき、その子が胎内でおどった。エリサベツは聖霊に満たされ、
1:41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit: (o. pneuma)
1:42 声高く叫んで言った、「あなたは女の中で祝福されたかた、あなたの胎の実も祝福されています。
1:42 And she spoke out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
1:43 主の母上がわたしのところにきてくださるとは、なんという光栄でしょう。
1:43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
1:44 ごらんなさい。あなたのあいさつの声がわたしの耳にはいったとき、子供が胎内で喜びおどりました。
1:44 For, lo, as soon as the voice of your salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
1:45 主のお語りになったことが必ず成就すると信じた女は、なんとさいわいなことでしょう」。
1:45 And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.
1:46 するとマリヤは言った、「わたしの魂は主をあがめ、
1:46 And Mary said, My soul does magnify the Lord,
1:47 わたしの霊は救主なる主をたたえます。
1:47 And my spirit (o. pneuma) has rejoiced in God my Saviour.
1:48 この卑しい女さえ、心にかけてくださいました。今からのち代々の人々は、わたしをさいわいな女と言うでしょう、
1:48 For he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
1:49 力あるかたが、わたしに大きな事をしてくださったからです。そのみ名はきよく、
1:49 For he that is mighty has done to me great things; and holy is his name.
1:50 そのあわれみは、代々限りなく主をかしこみ恐れる者に及びます。
1:50 And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.
1:51 主はみ胸をもって力をふるい、心の思いのおごり高ぶる者を追い散らし、
1:51 He has showed strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
1:52 権力のある者を王座から引きおろし、卑しい者を引き上げ、
1:52 He has put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.
1:53 飢えている者を良いもので飽かせ、富んでいる者を空腹のまま帰らせなさいます。
1:53 He has filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he has sent empty away.
1:54 主は、あわれみをお忘れにならず、その僕イスラエルを助けてくださいました、
1:54 He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy;
1:55 わたしたちの祖父アブラハムとその子孫とをとこしえにあわれむと約束なさったとおりに」。
1:55 As he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.
1:56 マリヤは、エリサベツのところに三か月ほど滞在してから、家に帰った。
1:56 And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.
1:57 さてエリサベツは月が満ちて、男の子を産んだ。
1:57 Now Elisabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.
1:58 近所の人々や親族は、主が大きなあわれみを彼女におかけになったことを聞いて、共どもに喜んだ。
1:58 And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had showed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her.
1:59 八日目になったので、幼な子に割礼をするために人々がきて、父の名にちなんでザカリヤという名にしょうとした。
1:59 And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.
1:60 ところが、母親は、「いいえ、ヨハネという名にしなくてはいけません」と言った。
1:60 And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John.
1:61 人々は、「あなたの親族の中には、そういう名のついた者は、ひとりもいません」と彼女に言った。
1:61 And they said unto her, There is none of your kindred that is called by this name.
1:62 そして父親に、「どんな名にしたいのですかと、合図で尋ねた。
1:62 And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.
1:63 ザカリヤは書板を持ってこさせて、それに「その名はヨハネ」と書いたので、みんなの者は不思議に思った。
1:63 And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all.
1:64 すると、立ちどころにザカリヤの口が開けて舌がゆるみ、語り出して神をほめたたえた。
1:64 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, and praised God.
1:65 近所の人々はみな恐れをいだき、またユダヤの山里の至るところに、これらの事がことごとく語り伝えられたので、
1:65 And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings (o. rhema) were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea.
1:66 聞く者たちは皆それを心に留めて、「この子は、いったい、どんな者になるのだろう」と語り合った。主のみ手が彼と共にあった。
1:66 And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him.
1:67 父ザカリヤは聖霊に満たされ、予言して言った、
1:67 And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, (o. pneuma) and prophesied, saying,
1:68 「主なるイスラエルの神は、ほむべきんな。神はその民を顧みてこれをあがない、
1:68 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he has visited and redeemed his people,
1:69 わたしたちのために救いの角を僕ダビデの家にお立てになった。
1:69 And has raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;
1:70 古くから、聖なる預言者たちの口によってお語りになったように、
1:70 As he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:
1:71 わたしたちを敵から、またすべてわたしたちを憎む者の手から、救い出すためである。
1:71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;
1:72 こうして、神はわたしたちの祖父たちにあわれみをかけ、その聖なる契約、
1:72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;
1:73 すなわち、祖父アブラハムにお立てになった誓いをおぼえて、
1:73 The oath which he swore to our father Abraham,
1:74 わたしたちを敵の手から救い出し、
1:74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,
1:75 生きている限り、きよく正しく、みまえに恐れなく仕えさせてくださるのである。
1:75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
1:76 幼な子よ、あなたは、いと高き者の預言者と呼ばれるであろう。主のみまえに先立って行き、その道を備え、
1:76 And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Highest: for you shall go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
1:77 罪のゆるしによる救いをその民に知らせるのであるから。
1:77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
1:78 これはわたしたちの神のあわれみ深いみこころによる。また、そのあわれみによって、日の光が上からわたしたちに臨み、
1:78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high has visited us,
1:79 暗黒と死の陰とに住む者を照らし、わたしたちの足を平和の道へ導くであろう」。
1:79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
1:80 幼な子は成長し、その霊も強くなり、そしてイスラエルに現れる日まで、荒野にいた。
1:80 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, (o. pneuma) and was in the deserts till the day of his showing unto Israel.
2:1 そのころ、全世界の人口調査をせよとの勅令が、皇帝アウグストから出た。
2:1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.
2:2 これは、クレニオがシリヤの総督であった時に行われた最初の人口調査であった。
2:2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
2:3 人々はみな登録をするために、それぞれ自分の町へ帰って行った。
2:3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
2:4 ヨセフもダビデの家系であり、またその血統であったので、ガラリヤの町ナザレを出て、ユダヤのベツレヘムというダビデの町へ上って行った。
2:4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
2:5 それは、すでに身重になっていたいいなづけの妻マリヤと共に、登録をするためであった。
2:5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
2:6 ところが、彼らがベツレヘムに滞在している間に、マリヤは月が満ちて、
2:6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
2:7 初子を産み、布にくるんで、飼葉おけの中に寝かせた。客間には彼らのいる余地がなかったからである。
2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a crib; because there was no room for them in the inn.
2:8 さて、この地方で羊飼たちが夜、野宿しながら羊の群れの番をしていた。
2:8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
2:9 すると主の御使が現れ、主の栄光が彼らをめぐり照らしたので、彼らは非常に恐れた。
2:9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
2:10 御使は言った、「恐れるな、見よ、すべての民に与えられる大きな喜びを、あなたがたに伝える。
2:10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
2:11 きょうダビデの町に、あなたがたのために救主がお生まれになった。このかたこそ主なるキリストである。
2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
2:12 あなたがたは、幼な子が布にくるまって飼葉おけの中に寝かしてあるのを見るであろう。それが、あなたがたに与えられるしるしである」。
2:12 And this shall be a sign unto you; All of you shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a crib.
2:13 するとたちまち、おびただしい天の軍勢が現れ、御使と一緒になって神をさんびして言った、
2:13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
2:14 「いと高きところでは、神に栄光があるように、地の上では、み心にかなう人々に平和があるように」。
2:14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
2:15 御使たちが彼らを離れて天に帰ったとき、羊飼たちは「さあ、ベツレヘムへ行って、主がお知らせ下さったその出来事を見てこようではないか」と、互いに語り合った。
2:15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing (o. rhema) which has come to pass, which the Lord has made known unto us.
2:16 そして急いで行って、マリヤとヨセフ、また飼葉おけに寝かしてある幼な子を捜しあてた。
2:16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a crib.
2:17 彼らに合った上で、この子について自分たちに告げ知らされた事を、人々に伝えた。
2:17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying (o. rhema) which was told them concerning this child.
2:18 人々はみな、羊飼たちが話してくれたことを聞いて、不思議に思った。
2:18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
2:19 しかし、マリヤはこれらの事をことごとく心に留めて、思いめぐらしていた。
2:19 But Mary kept all these things, (o. rhema) and pondered them in her heart.
2:20 羊飼たちは、見聞きしたことが何もかも自分たちに語られたとおりであったので、神をあがめ、またさんびしながら帰って行った。
2:20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
2:21 八日が過ぎ、割礼をほどこす時になったので、受胎のまえに御使が告げたとおり、幼な子をイエスと名づけた。
2:21 And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
2:22 それから、モーセの律法による彼らのきよめの期間が過ぎたとき、両親は幼な子を連れてエルサレムへ上った。
2:22 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;
2:23 それは主の律法に「母の胎を初めて開く男の子はみな、主に聖別された者と、となえられねばならない」と書いてあるとおり、幼な子を主にささげるためであり、
2:23 (As it is written in the law of the LORD, Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;)
2:24 また同じ主の律法に、「山ばと一つがい、または、家ばとのひな二羽」と定めてあるのに従って、犠牲をささげるためであった。
2:24 And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.
2:25 その時、エルサレムにシメオンという名の人がいた。この人は正しい信仰深い人で、イウラエルの慰められるのを待ち望んでいた。また聖霊が彼に宿っていた。
2:25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Spirit (o. pneuma) was upon him.
2:26 そして主のつかわす救主に会うまでは死ぬことはないと、聖霊の示しを受けていた。
2:26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Spirit, (o. pneuma) that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
2:27 この人が御霊に感じて宮にはいった。すると律法に定めてあることを行うため、両親もその子イエスを連れてはいってきたので、
2:27 And he came by the Spirit (o. pneuma) into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,
2:28 シメオンは幼な子を腕に抱き、神をほめたたえて言った、
2:28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
2:29 「主よ、今こそ、あなたはみ言葉のとおりにこの僕を安らかに去らせてくださいます、
2:29 Lord, now let you your servant depart in peace, according to your word: (o. rhema)
2:30 わたしの目が今あなたの救いを見たのですから。
2:30 For mine eyes have seen your salvation,
2:31 この救はあなたが万民のまえにお備えになったもので
2:31 Which you have prepared before the face of all people;
2:32 異邦人を照す啓示の光、み民イスラエルの栄光であります」。
2:32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.
2:33 父と母は幼な子についてこのように語られたことを、不思議に思った。
2:33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.
2:34 するとシメオンは彼らを祝し、そし母マリヤに言った、「ごらんなさい、この幼な子は、イスラエルの多くの人を倒れさせたり立ちあがらせたりするために、また反対を受けるしるしとして、定められています。ー
2:34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;
2:35 そして、あなた自身もつるぎで胸を刺し貫かれるでしょう。ー それは多くの人の心にある思いが、現れるようになるためです」。
2:35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through your own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.
2:36 また、アセル族のバヌエルのり娘で、アンナという女預言者がいた。彼女は非常に年をとっていた。むすめの時代にとついで、七年間だけ夫と共に住み、
2:36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;
2:37 その後やもめぐらしをし、八十四歳になっていた。そして宮を離れずに夜も昼も断食と祈りとをもって神に仕えていた。
2:37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.
2:38 この老女も、ちょうどそのとき近寄ってきて、神に感謝をささげ、そしてこの幼な子のことを、エルサレムの救いを待ち望んでいるすべての人々に語りはじめた。
2:38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spoke of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.
2:39 両親は主の律法どおりすべての事をすませたので、ガリラヤへむかい、自分の町ナザレに帰った。
2:39 And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.
2:40 幼な子は、ますます成長して強くなり、知恵に満ち、そして神の恵みがその上にあった。
2:40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, (o. pneuma) filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.
2:41 さて、イエスの両親は、過越の祭には毎年エルサレムへ上っていった。
2:41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.
2:42 イエスが十二歳になった時も、慣例に従って祭のために上京した。
2:42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.
2:43 ところが、祭が終わって帰るとき、少年イエスはエルサレムに居残っておられたが、両親はそれに気づかなかった。
2:43 And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.
2:44 そして道連れの中にいることと思いこんで、一日路を行ってしまい、それから、親族や知人の中を捜しはじめたが、
2:44 But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.
2:45 見つからなにので、捜しまわりながらエルサレムへ引返した。
2:45 And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.
2:46 そして三日の後に、イエスが宮の中で教師たちのまん中にすわって、彼らの話を聞いたり質問したりしておられるのを見つけた。
2:46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.
2:47 聞く人々はみな、イエスの賢さやその答に驚嘆していた。
2:47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
2:48 両親はこれを見て驚き、そして母が彼に言った、「どうしてこんな事をしてくれたのです。ごらんなさい、おとう様もわたしも心配して、あなたを捜していたのです」。
2:48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why have you thus dealt with us? behold, your father and I have sought you sorrowing.
2:49 するとイエスは言われた、「どうしてお捜しになったのですか。わたしが自分の父の家にいるはずのことを、ご存知なかったのですか」。
2:49 And he said unto them, How is it that all of you sought me? know all of you not that I must be about my Father's business?
2:50 しかし、両親はその語られた言葉を悟ることができなかった。
2:50 And they understood not the saying (o. rhema) which he spoke unto them.
2:51 それからイエスは両親と一緒にナザレに下って行き、彼らにお仕えになった。母はこれらの事をみな心に留めていた。
2:51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings (o. rhema) in her heart.
2:52 イエスはますます知恵が加わり、背たけも伸び、そして神と人から愛された。
2:52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
3:1 皇帝テベリオ在位の第十五年、ポンティオ・ピラトがユダヤの総督、ヘロデがガリラヤの領主、その兄弟ピリポがイツリヤ・テラコニテ地方の領主、ルサニヤがアビレネの領主、
3:1 Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene,
3:2 アンナスとカヤバとが大祭司であったとき、神の言が荒野でザカリヤの子ヨハネに臨んだ。
3:2 Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word (o. rhema) of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.
3:3 彼はヨルダンのほとりの全地方に行って、罪のゆるしを得させる悔改めのバプテスマを宣べ伝えた。
3:3 And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;
3:4 それは、預言者イザヤの言葉の書に書いてあるとおりである。すなわち「荒野で呼ばわる者の声がする、『主の道を備えよ、その道筋をまっすぐにせよ』。
3:4 As it is written in the book of the words (o. logos) of Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare all of you the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
3:5 すべての谷は埋められ、すべての山と丘とは、平らにされ、曲がったところはまっすぐに、わるい道はならされ、
3:5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;
3:6 人はみな神の救を見るであろう」。
3:6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
3:7 さて、ヨハネは、彼からバプテスマを受けようとして出てきた群衆に向かって言った、「まむしの子らよ、迫ってきている神の怒りから、のがれられると、おまえたちにだれが教えたのか。
3:7 Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
3:8 だから、悔改めにふさわしい実を結べ。自分たちの父にはアブラハムがあるなどと、心の中で思ってもみるな。おまえたちに言っておく。神はこれらの石ころからでも、アブラハムの子を起こすことができるのだ。
3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
3:9 斧がすでに木の根元に置かれている。だから、良い実を結ばない木はことごとく切られて、火の中に投げ込まれるのだ」。
3:9 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which brings not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
3:10 そこで群衆が彼に、「それては、わたしたちは何をすればよいのですか」と尋ねた。
3:10 And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?
3:11 彼は答えて言った、「下着二枚を持っている者は、持たない者に分けてやりなさい。食物を持っている者も同様にしなさい」。
3:11 He answers and says unto them, He that has two coats, let him impart to him that has none; and he that has food, let him do likewise.
3:12 取税人もバプテスマを受けにきて、彼に言った、「先生、わたしたちは何をすればよいのですか」。
3:12 Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do?
3:13 彼らに言った、「きまっているもの以上に取り立ててはいけない」。
3:13 And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you.
3:14 兵卒たちもたずねて言った、「では、わたしたちは何をすればよいのですか」。彼は言った、「人をおどかしたり、だまし取ったりしてはいけない。自分の給与で満足しなさい」。
3:14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.
3:15 民衆は救主を待ち望んでいたので、みな心の中でヨハネのことを、もしかしたらこの人がそれではなかろうかと考えていた。
3:15 And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not;
3:16 そこでヨハネはみんなの者にむかって言われた、「わたしは水でおまえたちにバプテスマを授けるが、わたしよりも力のあるかたが、おいでになる。わたしには、そのくつひもを解く値うちもない。このかたは、聖霊と火とによっておまえたちにバプテスマをお授けになるであろう。
3:16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I comes, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit (o. pneuma) and with fire:
3:17 また、箕を手に持って、打ち場の麦をふるい分け、麦は倉に納め、からは消えない火で焼き捨てるであろう」。
3:17 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.
3:18 こうしてヨハネはほかにもなお、さまざまの勧めをして、民衆を教え説いた。
3:18 And many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people.
3:19 ところが領主ヘロデは、兄弟の妻ヘロデヤのことで、また自分がしたあらゆる悪事について、ヨハネから非難されたので、
3:19 But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done,
3:20 彼を獄に閉じ込めて、いろいろな悪事の上に、もう一つ悪事を重ねた。
3:20 Added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison.
3:21 さて、民衆がみなバプテスマを受けたとき、イエスもバプテスマを受けて祈っておられると、天が開けて、
3:21 Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,
3:22 聖霊がはとのような姿をとってイエスの上に下り、そして天から声がした、「あなたはわたしの愛する子、わたしの心にかなう者である」。
3:22 And the Holy Spirit (o. pneuma) descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, You are my beloved Son; in you I am well pleased.
3:23 イエスが宣教をはじめられたのは、年およそ三十歳の時であって、人々の考えによれば、ヨセフの子であった。ヨセフはヘリの子、
3:23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,
3:24 それから、さかのぼって、マタテ、レビ、メルキ、ヤンナイ、ヨセフ、
3:24 Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph,
3:25 マタテヤ、アモス、ナホム、エスリ、ナンガイ、
3:25 Which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Amos, which was the son of Naum, which was the son of Esli, which was the son of Nagge,

3:38 Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.
4:1 さて、イエスは聖霊に満ちてヨルダン川から帰り、
4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Spirit (o. pneuma) returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit (o. pneuma) into the wilderness,
4:2 荒野を四十日のあいだ御霊にひままわされて、悪魔の試みにあわれた。そのあいだ何も食べず、その日数がつきると、空腹になられた。
4:2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.
4:3 そこで悪魔が言った、「もしあなたが神の子であるなら、この石に、パンになれと命じてごらんなさい」。
4:3 And the devil said unto him, If you be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.
4:4 イエスは答えられて言われた、「『人はパンだけで生きるものてせはない』と書いてある」。
4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word (o. rhema) of God.
4:5 それから、悪魔はイエスを高い所へ連れて行き、またたくまに世界のすべての国々をみせて
4:5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, showed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
4:6 言った、「これらの国々の権威と栄華とをみんな、あなたにあげましょう。それらはわたしに任せられていて、だれでも好きな人にあげてよいのですから。
4:6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give you, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
4:7 それで、もしあなたがわたしの前にひざまずくなら、これを全部あなたのものにしてあげましょう」。
4:7 If you therefore will worship me, all shall be yours.
4:8 イエスは答えて言われた、「『主なるあなたの神を拝し、ただ神のみに仕えよ』と書いてある」。
4:8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get you behind me, Satan: for it is written, You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.
4:9 それから悪魔はイエスをエルサレムに連れて行き、宮の頂上に立たせて言った、「もしあなたが神の子であるなら、ここから下へ飛びおりてごらんなさい。
4:9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If you be the Son of God, cast yourself down from behind:
4:10 『神はあなたのために、御使たちに命じてあなたを守らせるであろう』とあり、
4:10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over you, to keep you:
4:11 また、『あなたの足が石に打ちつけられないように、彼らは手でささえるであろう』とも書いてあります」。
4:11 And in their hands they shall bear you up, lest at any time you dash your foot against a stone.
4:12 イエスは答えて言われた、「『主なるあなたの神を試みてはならない』と言われている」。
4:12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, You shall not tempt the Lord your God.
4:13 悪魔はあらゆる試みをしつくして、一時イエスを離れた。
4:13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.
4:14 それからイエスは御霊の力に満ちあふれてガリラヤへ帰られると、そのうわさがその地方全体にひろまった。
4:14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit (o. pneuma) into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.
4:15 イエスは諸会堂で教え、みんなの者から尊敬をお受けになった。
4:15 And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.
4:16 それからお育ちになったナザレに行き、安息日にいつものように会堂にはいり、聖書を朗読しようとして立たれた。
4:16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up in order to read.
4:17 すると預言者イザヤの書が手渡されたので、その書を開いて、こう書いてある所を出された、
4:17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,
4:18 「主の御霊がわたしに宿っている。貧しい人々に福音を宣べ伝えさせるために、わたしを聖別してくださったからである。主はわたしをつかわして、囚人が解放され、盲人の目が開かれることを告げ知らせ、打ちひしがれている者に自由を得させ、
4:18 The Spirit (o. pneuma) of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
4:19 主のめぐみの年を告げ知らせるのである」。
4:19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
4:20 イエスは聖書を巻いて、係り者に返し、席に着かれると、会堂にいるみんなの者の目がイエスに注がれた。
4:20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.
4:21 そこでイエスは、「この聖句は、あなたがたが耳にしたこの日に成就した」と説きはじめられた。
4:21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
4:22 すると、彼らはみなイエスをほめ、またその口から出て来るめぐみの言葉に感嘆して言った、「この人はヨセフの子ではないか」。
4:22 And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words (o. logos) which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?
4:23 そこで彼らに言われた、「あなたがたは、きっと『医者よ、自分自身をいやせ』ということわざを引いて、カペナウムで行われたと聞いていた事を、あなたの郷里のこの地でもしてくれ、と言うであろう」。
4:23 And he said unto them, All of you will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal yourself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in your country.
4:24 それから言われた、「よく言っておく。預言者は、自分の郷里では歓迎されないものである。
4:24 And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.
4:25 よく聞いておきなさい。エリヤの時代に、三年六か月にわたって天が閉じ、イスラエル全土に大ききんがあった際、そこには多くのやもめがいたのに、
4:25 But I tell you truthfully, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;
4:26 エリヤはそのうちのだれにもつかわされないで、ただシドンのサレプタにいるひとりのやもめにだけつかわされた。
4:26 But unto none of them was Elijah sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow.
4:27 また預言者エリシャの時代に、イスラエルには多くのらい病人がいたのに、そのうちのひとりもきよめられないで、ただシリヤのナアマンだけがきよめられた」。
4:27 And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian.
4:28 会堂にいた者たちはこれを聞いて、みな憤りに満ち、
4:28 And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath,
4:29 立ち上がってイエスを町の外へ追い出し、その町が建っている丘のがけまでひっぱって行って、突き落とそうとした。
4:29 And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong.
4:30 しかし、イエスは彼らのまんなかを通り抜けて、去って行かれた。
4:30 But he passing through the midst of them went his way,
4:31 それから、イエスはガリラヤの町カペナウムに下って行かれた。そして安息日になると、人々をお教えになったが、
4:31 And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath days.
4:32 その言葉に権威があったので、彼らはその教えに驚いた。
4:32 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word (o. logos) was with power.
4:33 すると、汚れた悪霊につかれた人が会堂にいて、大声で叫びだした。
4:33 And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit (o. pneuma) of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice,
4:34 「ああ、ナザレのイエスよ、あなたわたしたちとなにの係わりがあるのです。わたしたちを滅ぼしにこられたのですか。あなたがどなたであるか、わかっています。神の聖者です」。
4:34 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with you, you Jesus of Nazareth? are you come to destroy us? I know you who you are; the Holy One of God.
4:35 イエスはこれをしかって、「黙れ、この人から出て行け」と言われた。すると悪霊は彼を人のなかに投げ倒し、傷を負わせずに、その人から出て行った。
4:35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold your peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not.
4:36 みんなの者は驚いて、互いに語り合って言った、「これは、いったい、ないという言葉だろう。権威と力とをもって汚れた霊に命じられると、彼らは出て行くのだ」。
4:36 And they were all amazed, and spoke among themselves, saying, What a word (o. logos) is this! for with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, (o. pneuma) and they come out.
4:37 こうしてイエスの評判が、その地方のいたる所にひろまっていった。
4:37 And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about.
4:38 イエスは会堂を出てシモンの家におはいりになった。ところがシモンのしゅうとめが高い熱を病んでいたので、人々は彼女のためにイエスにお願いした。
4:38 And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her.
4:39 そこで、イエスはそのまくらもとに立って、熱が引くように命じられると、熱は引き、女はすぐに起き上がって、彼らをもてなした。
4:39 And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.
4:40 日が暮れると、いろいろな病気になやむ者をかかえている人々が、皆それをイエスのところに連れてきたのでそのひとりひとりに手を置いて、おいやしになった。
4:40 Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.
4:41 悪霊も「あなたこそ神の子です」と叫びながら多くの人々から出て行った。しかし、イエスは彼らを戒めて、物を言うことをお許しにならなかった。彼らがイエスはキリストだと知っていたからである。
4:41 And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, You are Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ.
4:42 夜が明けると、イエスは寂しい所へ出て行かれたが、群衆が捜しまわって、みもとに集まり、自分たちから離れて行かないようにと、引き止めた。
4:42 And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them.
4:43 しかしイエスは、「わたしは、ほかの町々にも神の国の福音を宣べ伝えねばならない。自分はそのためにつかわされたのである」と言われた。
4:43 And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent.
4:44 そして、ユダヤの諸会堂で教え説かれた。
4:44 And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee.
5:1 さて、群衆が神の言葉を聞こうとして押し寄せてきたとき、イエスはゲネサレ湖畔に立っておられたが、
5:1 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word (o. logos) of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,
5:2 そこに二そうの小舟が寄せてあるのをごらんになった。漁師たちは、船からおりて網を洗っていた。
5:2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.
5:3 その一そうはシモンの船であったが、イエスはそれに乗り込み、シモンに頼んで岸から少しこぎ出させ、そしてすわって、船の中から群衆にお教えになった。
5:3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
5:4 話がすむと、シモンに「沖へこぎ出し、網をおろして漁をしてみなさい」と言われた。
5:4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
5:5 シモンは答えて言った、「先生、わたしたちは夜通し働きましたが、何も取れませんでした。しかし、お言葉ですから、網をおろしてみましょう」。
5:5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at your word (o. rhema) I will let down the net.
5:6 そしてそのとおりにしたところ、おびただしい魚の群れがはいって、網が破れそうになった。
5:6 And when they had this done, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
5:7 そこで、もう一そうの船にいた仲間に、加勢するよう合図したので、彼らがきて魚を両方の船いっぱいに入れた。そのために、船は沈みそうになった。
5:7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.
5:8 これを見てシモン・ペテロは、イエスのひざもとにひれ伏して言った、「主よ、わたしから離れてください。わたしは罪深い者です」。
5:8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
5:9 彼も一緒にいた者たちもみな、取れた魚がおびただしいのに驚いたからである。
5:9 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:
5:10 シモンの仲間であったゼベタイの子ヤコブとヨハネも、同様であった。すると、イエスがシモンに言われた、「恐れることはない。今からあなたは人間をとる漁師になるのだ」。
5:10 And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth you shall catch men.
5:11 そこで彼らは舟を陸に引き上げ、いっさいを捨ててイエスに従った。
5:11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.
5:12 イエスがある町におられた時、全身らい病になっている人がそこにいた。イエスを見ると、顔を地に伏せて願って言った、「主よ、みこころでしたら、きよめていただけるのですが」。
5:12 And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.
5:13 イエスは手を伸ばして彼にさわり、「そうしてあげよう、きよくなれ」と言われた。すると、らい病がただちに去ってしまった。
5:13 And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be you clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.
5:14 イエスはだれにも話さないようにと彼に言い聞かせ、「ただ行って自分のからだを祭司に見せ、それからあなたのきよめのために、モーセが命じたとおりのささげ物をして、人々に証明しなさい」とお命じになった。
5:14 And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
5:15 しかし、イエスの評判はますますひろまって行き、おびだたしい群衆が、教を聞いたり、病気をなおしてもらったりするために、集まってきた。
5:15 But so much the more went there a fame (o. logos) abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities.
5:16 しかしイエスは、寂しい所に退いて祈っておられた。
5:16 And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.
5:17 ある日のこと、イエスが教えておられると、ガリラヤのユダヤの方々の村から、またエルサレムからきたパリサイ人や律法学者たちが、そこにすわっていた。主の力が働いて、イエスは人々をいやされた。
5:17 And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
5:18 その時、ある人々が、ひとりの中風をわずらっている人を床にのせたまま連れてきて、家の中に運び入れ、イエスの前に置こうとした。
5:18 And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.
5:19 ところが、群衆のためにどうしても運び入れる方法がなかったので、屋根にのぼり、瓦をはいで、病人を床ごと群衆のまん中につりおろして、イエスの前においた。
5:19 And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus.
5:20 イエスは彼らの信仰を見て、「人よ、あなたの罪はゆるされた」と言われた。
5:20 And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, your sins are forgiven you.
5:21 すると律法学者とパリサイ人たちとは、「神を汚すことを言うこの人は、いったい、何者だ。神おひとりのほかに、だれが罪をゆるすことができるのか」と言って論じはじめた。
5:21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?
5:22 イエスは彼らの論議を見ぬいて、「あなたがたは心の中で何を論じているのか。
5:22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason all of you in your hearts?
5:23 あなたの罪はゆるされたと言うのと、起きて歩けと言うのと、どちらがたやすいか。
5:23 Whether is easier, to say, Your sins be forgiven you; or to say, Rise up and walk?
5:24 しかし、人の子が地上で罪をゆるす権威を持っていることが、あなたがたにわかるために」と彼らに対して言い、中風の者にむかって、「あなたに命じる。起きよ、床を取り上げて家に帰れ」と言われた。
5:24 But that all of you may know that the Son of man has power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto you, Arise, and take up your couch, and go into yours house.
5:25 すると病人は即座にみんなの前で起きあがり、寝ていた床を取りあげて、神をあがめながら家に帰って行った。
5:25 And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.
5:26 みんなの者は驚嘆してしまった。そして神をあがめ、おそれに満たされて、「きょうは驚くべきことを見た」と言った。
5:26 And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day.
5:27 そののち、イエスが出て行かれると、レビという名の収税人が収税所にすわっているのを見て、「わたしに従ってきなさい」と言われた。
5:27 And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me.
5:28 すると、彼はいっさいを捨てて立ちあがり、イエスに従ってきた。
5:28 And he left all, rose up, and followed him.
5:29 それから、レビは自分の家で、イエスのために盛大な宴会を催したが、収税人やそのほか大ぜいの人々が、共に食卓に着いていた。
5:29 And Levi made him a great feast in his own house: and there was a great company of publicans and of others that sat down with them.
5:30 ところが、パリサイ人やその律法学者たちが、イエスの弟子たちに対してつぶやいて言った、「どうしてあなたがたは、収税人や罪人などと飲食を共にするのか」。
5:30 But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do all of you eat and drink with publicans and sinners?
5:31 イエスは答えて言われた、「健康な人に医者はいらない。いるのは病人である。
5:31 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.
5:32 わたしがきたのは、義人を招くためではなく、罪人を招いて悔い改めさせるためである」。
5:32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
5:33 また彼らは、イエスに言った、「ヨハネの弟子たちは、しばしば断食をし、また祈をしてており、パリサイ人の弟子たちもそうしているのに、あなたの弟子たちは食べたり飲んだりしています」。
5:33 And they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but yours eat and drink?
5:34 するとイエスは言われた、「あなたがたには、花婿が一緒にいるのに、婚礼の客に断食をさせることができるであろうか。
5:34 And he said unto them, Can all of you make the children of the bride-chamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them?
5:35 しかし、花婿が奪い去られる日が来る。その日には断食をするであろう」。
5:35 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.
5:36 それからイエスはまた一つの譬を語られた、「だれも、新しい着物から布ぎれを切り取って、古い着物につぎを当てるものはない。もしそんなことをしたら、新しい着物を裂くことになるし、新しいのから取った布ぎれも古いのに合わないであろう。
5:36 And he spoke also a parable unto them; No man puts a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new makes a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agrees not with the old.
5:37 まただれも、新しいぶどう酒を古い皮袋に入れはしない。もしそんなことをしたら、
5:37 And no man puts new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.
5:38 新しいぶどう酒は皮袋をはり裂き、そしてぶどう酒は流れ出るし、皮袋もむだになるであろう。新しいぶどう酒は新しい皮袋にいれるべきである。
5:38 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.
5:39 まただれも、古い酒を飲んでから、新しいのをほしがりはしない。『古いのが良い』と考えているからである」。
5:39 No man also having drunk old wine immediately desires new: for he says, The old is better.
6:1 ある安息日にイエスが麦畑の中をとおって行かれたとき、弟子たちが穂をつみ、手でもみながら食べていた。
6:1 And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands.
6:2 すると、あるパリサイ人たちが言った、「あなたがたはなぜ、安息日にしてはならぬことをするのか」。
6:2 And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do all of you that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days?
6:3 そこでイエスが答えて言われた、「あなたがたは、ダビデのしたことについて、読んだことがないのか。
6:3 And Jesus answering them said, Have all of you not read so much as this, what David did, when himself was an hungered, and they which were with him;
6:4 すなわち、神の家にはいって、祭司たちのほかだれも食べてはならぬ供えのパンを取って食べ、また供の者たちにも与えたではないか」。
6:4 How he went into the house of God, and did take and eat the showbread, and gave also to them that were with him; which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone?
6:5 また彼らに言われた、「人の子は安息日の主である」。
6:5 And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
6:6 また、ほかの安息日に会堂にはいって教えておられたところ、そこに右手のなえた人がいた。
6:6 And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered.
6:7 律法学者やパリサイ人たちは、イエスを訴える口実を見付けようと思って、安息日にいやされるかどうかをうかがっていた。
6:7 And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him.
6:8 イエスは彼らの思っていることを知って、その手のなえた人に、「起きて、まん中に立ちなさい」と言われると、起き上がって立った。
6:8 But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth.
6:9 そこでイエスは彼らにむかって言われた、「あなたがたに聞くが、安息日に善を行うのと悪を行うのと、命を救うのと殺すのと、どちらがよいか」。
6:9 Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?
6:10 そして彼ら一同を見まわして、その人に「手を伸ばしなさい」と言われた。そのとおりにすると、その手は元どおりになった。
6:10 And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth your hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
6:11 そこで彼らは激しく怒って、イエスをどうかしてやろうと、互いに話合いをはじめた。
6:11 And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.
6:12 このころ、イエスは祈るために山へ行き、夜を徹して神に祈られた。
6:12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
6:13 夜が明けると、弟子たちを呼び寄せ、その中から十二人を選び出し、これに使徒という名をお与えになった。
6:13 And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;
6:14 すなわち、ペテロとも呼ばれたシモンとその兄弟アンデレ、ヤコブとヨハネ、ピリポとバルトロマイ、
6:14 Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,
6:15 マタイとトマス、アルパヨの子ヤコブと、熱心党と呼ばれたシモン、
6:15 Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes,
6:16 ヤコブの子ユダ、それからイスカレオテのユダ。このユダが裏切者となったのである。
6:16 And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor.
6:17 そして、イエスは彼らと一緒に山を下って平地に立たれたが、大ぜいの弟子たちや、ユダの全土、エルサレム、ツロとシドンの海岸地方などから大群衆が、
6:17 And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases;
6:18 教えを聞こうとし、また病気をなおしてもらおうとして、そこにきていた。そして汚れた霊に悩まされている者たちも、いやされた。
6:18 And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: (o. pneuma) and they were healed.
6:19 また群衆はイエスにさわろうと努めた。それは力がイエスの内から出て、みんなの者を次々にいやしたからである。
6:19 And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.
6:20 そのとき、イエスは目をあげ、弟子たちを見て言われた、「あなたがた貧しい人たちは、さいわいだ。神の国はあなたがたのものである。
6:20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be all of you poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
6:21 あなたがたいま飢えている人たちは、さいわいだ。飽き足りるようになるからである。あなたがたいま泣いている人たちは、さいわいだ。笑うようになるからである。
6:21 Blessed are all of you that hunger now: for all of you shall be filled. Blessed are all of you that weep now: for all of you shall laugh.
6:22 人々があなたがたを憎むとき、また人の子のためにあなたがたを排斥し、ののしり、汚名を着せるときは、あなたがたはさいわいだ。
6:22 Blessed are all of you, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.
6:23 その日には喜びおどれ。見よ、天においてあなたがたの受ける報いは大きいのだから。彼らの祖先も、預言者たちに対して同じことをしたのである。
6:23 Rejoice all of you in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.
6:24 しかしあなたがた富んでいる人たちは、わざわいだ。慰めを受けてしまっているからである。
6:24 But woe unto you that are rich! for all of you have received your consolation.
6:25 あなたがた今満腹している人たちは、わざわいだ。飢えるようになるからである。あなたがた今笑っている人たちは、わざわいだ。悲しみ泣くようになるからである。
6:25 Woe unto you that are full! for all of you shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for all of you shall mourn and weep.
6:26 人が皆あなたがたをほめるときは、あなたがたはわざわいだ。彼らの祖先も、にせ預言者たちに対しておなじことをしたのである。
6:26 Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.
6:27 しかし、聞いているあなたがたに言う。敵を愛し、憎む者に親切にせよ。
6:27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,
6:28 のろう者を祝福し、はずかしめる者のために祈れ。あなたがたの頬を打つ者にはほかの頬を向けてやり、
6:28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.
6:29 あなたの上着を奪い取る者には下着をも拒むな。
6:29 And unto him that strikes you on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that takes away your cloak forbid not to take your coat also.
6:30 あなたに求める者には与えてやり、あなたの持ち物を奪う者からは取りもどそうとするな。
6:30 Give to every man that asks of you; and of him that takes away your goods ask them not again.
6:31 人々にしてほしいと、あなたがたの望むことを、人々にもそのとおりにせよ。
6:31 And as all of you would that men should do to you, do all of you also to them likewise.
6:32 自分を愛してくれる人を愛したからとて、どれほどの手柄になろうか。罪人でさえ、自分を愛してくれる者を愛している。
6:32 For if all of you love them which love you, what thank have all of you? for sinners also love those that love them.
6:33 自分をよくしてくれる者によくしたとて、どれほどの手柄になろうか。罪人でさえ、それくらいの事はしている。
6:33 And if all of you do good to them which do good to you, what thank have all of you? for sinners also do even the same.
6:34 また返してもらうつもりで貸したとて、どれほどの手柄になろうか。罪人でも、同じだけのものを返してもらおうとして、仲間に貸すのである。
6:34 And if all of you lend to them of whom all of you hope to receive, what thank have all of you? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.
6:35 しかし、あなたがたは、敵を愛し、人によくしてやり、また、何も当てにしないで貸してやれ。そうすれば受ける報いは大きく、あなたがたはいと高き者の子となるであろう。いと高き者は、恩を知らぬ者にも、悪人にも、なさけ深いからである。
6:35 But love all of you your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and all of you shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
6:36 あなたがたの父なる神が慈愛深いように、あなたがたも慈愛深い者となれ。
6:36 Be all of you therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
6:37 人をさばくな。そうすれば、自分もさばかれることがないであろう。また人を罪に定めるな。そうすれば、自分も罪に定められることがないであろう。ゆるしてやれ。そうすれば、自分もゆるされるであろう。
6:37 Judge not, and all of you shall not be judged: condemn not, and all of you shall not be condemned: forgive, and all of you shall be forgiven:
6:38 与えよ。そうすれば、自分にも与えられるであろう。人々はおし入れ、ゆすり入れ、あふれ出るまで量をよくして、あなたがたのふところに入れてくれるであろう。あなたがたの量るその量りで、自分にも量りかえされるであろうから」。
6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that all of you mete likewise it shall be measured to you again.
6:39 イエスはまた一つの譬で語られた、「盲人は盲人の手引きができようか。ふたりとも穴に落ち込まないだろうか。
6:39 And he spoke a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?
6:40 弟子はその師以上のものではないが、修行をつめば、みなその師のようになろう。
6:40 The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.
6:41 なぜ、兄弟の目にあるちりを見ながら、自分の目にある梁を認めないのか。
6:41 And why behold you the splinter that is in your brother's eye, but perceive not the beam that is in yours own eye?
6:42 自分の目にある梁を見ないでいて、どうして兄弟にむかって、兄弟よ、あなたの目にあるちりを取らせてください、と言えようか。偽善者よ、まず自分の目から梁を取りのけるがよい、そうすれば、はっきり見えるようになって、兄弟の目にあるちりをとりのけることができるだろう。
6:42 Either how can you say to your brother, Brother, let me pull out the splinter that is in yours eye, when you yourself behold not the beam that is in yours own eye? You hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of yours own eye, and then shall you see clearly to pull out the splinter that is in your brother's eye.
6:43 悪い実のなる良い木はないし、また良い実のなる悪い木もない。
6:43 For a good tree brings not forth corrupt fruit; neither does a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
6:44 木はそれぞれ、その実でわかる。いばらからいちじくを取ることはないし、野ばらからぶどうを摘むこともない。
6:44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
6:45 善人は良い心の倉から良い者を取り出し、悪人は悪い倉から悪い物を取り出す。心からあふれ出ることを、口が語るものである。
6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
6:46 わたしを主よ、主よ、と呼びながら、なぜわたしのいうことを行わないのか。
6:46 And why call all of you me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
6:47 わたしのもとにきて、わたしの言葉を聞いて行う者が、何に似ているか、あなたがたに教えよう。
6:47 Whosoever comes to me, and hears my sayings, (o. logos) and does them, I will show you to whom he is like:
6:48 それは、地を深く掘り、岩の上に土台をすえて家を建てる人に似ている。洪水が出て激流がその家に押し寄せてきても、それを揺り動かすことはできない。よく建ててあるからである。
6:48 He is like a man which built an house, and dug deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
6:49 しかし聞いても行わない人は、土台なしで、土の上に家を建てた人に似ている。激流がその家に押し寄せてきたら、たちまち倒れてしまい、その被害は大きいのである」。
6:49 But he that hears, and does not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
7:1 イエスはこれらの言葉をことごとく人々に聞かせてしまったのち、カペナウムに帰ってこられた。
7:1 Now when he had ended all his sayings (o. rhema) in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.
7:2 ところが、ある百卒長の頼みにしていた僕が、病気になって死にかかっていた。
7:2 And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die.
7:3 この百卒長はイエスのことを聞いて、ユダヤ人の長老たちをイエスのところにつかわして、自分の僕を助けにきてくださるようにと、お願いした。
7:3 And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant.
7:4 彼らはイエスのところにきて、熱心に願って言った、「あの人はそうしていただくねうちがございます。
7:4 And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this:
7:5 わたしたちの国民を愛し、わたしたちのために会堂を建ててくれたのです」。
7:5 For he loves our nation, and he has built us a synagogue.
7:6 そこで、イエスは彼らと連れだってお出かけになった。ところが、その家からほど遠くないあたりまでこられたとき、百卒長は友だちを送ってイエスに言わせた、「主よ、ぞうぞ、ご足労をくださいませんように。わたしの屋根の下にあなたをお入れする資格は、わたしにはございません。
7:6 Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not yourself: for I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof:
7:7 それですから、自分でお迎えにあがるねうちさえないと思っていたのです。ただ、お言葉を下さい。そして、わたしの僕をなおしてください。
7:7 Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto you: but say in a word, (o. logos) and my servant shall be healed.
7:8 わたしも権威の下に服している者ですが、わたしの下にも兵卒がいまして、ひとりの者に『行け』と言えば行き、ほかの者に『こい』と言えばきますし、また、僕に『これをせよ』と言えば、してくれるのです」。
7:8 For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my servant, Do this, and he does it.
7:9 イエスはこれを聞いて非常に感心され、ついてきた群衆の方に振り向いて言われた、「あなたがたに言っておくが、これほどの信仰は、イスラエルの中でも見たことがない」。
7:9 When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
7:10 使いにきた者たちが家に帰ってみると、僕は元気になっていた。
7:10 And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.
7:11 そののち、間もなく、ナインという町へおいでになったが、弟子たちや大ぜいの群衆も一緒に行った。
7:11 And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people.
7:12 町の門に近づかれると、ちょうど、あるやもめにとってひとりむすこであった者が死んだので、葬りに出すところであった。大ぜいの町の人たちが、その母につきそっていた。
7:12 Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.
7:13 主はこの婦人を見て深い同情を寄せられ、「泣かないでいなさい」と言われた。
7:13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.
7:14 そして近寄って棺に手をかけられると、かついでいる者たちが立ち止まったので、「若者よ、さあ、起きなさい」と言われた。
7:14 And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto you, Arise.
7:15 すると、死人が起きあがって物を言い出した。イエスは彼を母にお渡しになった。
7:15 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.
7:16 人々はみな恐れをいだき、「大預言者がわたしたちの間に現れた」、また、「神はその民を顧みてくださった」と言って、神をほめたたえた。
7:16 And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet has risen up among us; and, That God has visited his people.
7:17 イエスについてのこの話は、ユダヤ全土およびその附近のいたる所にひろまった。
7:17 And this rumour (o. logos) of him went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all the region round about.
7:18 ヨハネの弟子たちは、これらのことを全部彼に報告した。するとヨハネは弟子の中から二人の者を呼んで、
7:18 And the disciples of John showed him of all these things.
7:19 主のもとに送り「『きたるべきかた』はあなたなのですか。それとも、ほかにだれかを待つべきでしょうか」と尋ねさせた。
7:19 And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Are you he that should come? or look we for another?
7:20 そこで、この人たちがイエスのもとにきて言った、「わたしたちはバプテスマのヨハネからの使いですが、『きたるべきかた』はあなたなのですか、それとも、ほかにだれかを待つべきでしょうか、とヨハネが尋ねています」。
7:20 When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist has sent us unto you, saying, Are you he that should come? or look we for another?
7:21 そのとき、イエスはさきざまの病苦と悪霊とに悩む人々いやし、また多くの盲人を見えるようにしておられたが、
7:21 And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; (o. pneuma) and unto many that were blind he gave sight.
7:22 答えて言われた、「行って、あなたがたの見聞きしたことを、ヨハネに報告しなさい。盲人は見え、足なえは歩き、らい病人はきよまり、耳しいはきこえ、死人は生きかえり、貧しい人々は福音を聞かされている。
7:22 Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things all of you have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.
7:23 わたしにつまずかない者は、さいわいである」。
7:23 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
7:24 ヨハネの使いが行ってしまうと、イエスはヨハネのことを群衆に語りはじめられた、「あなたがたは、何を見に荒野に出てきたのか、風に揺らぐ葦であるのか。
7:24 And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went all of you out into the wilderness in order to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
7:25 では、何を見に出てきたのか、柔らかい着物をまとった人か。きらびやかに着かざって、ぜいたくに暮らしている人々なら、宮殿にいる。
7:25 But what went all of you out in order to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings' courts.
7:26 では、何を見に出てきたのか。預言者か。そうだ、あなたがたに言うが、預言者以上の者で
7:26 But what went all of you out in order to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.
7:27 『見よ、わたしは使いをあなたの先につかわし、おなたの前に、道を整えさせるであろう』と書いてあるのは、この人のことである。
7:27 This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before your face, which shall prepare your way before you.
7:28 あなたがたに言っておく。女の産んだ者の中で、ヨハネより大きい人物はいない。しかし、神の国で最も小さい者も、彼より大きい。
7:28 For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
7:29 （これを聞いた民衆は皆、また収税人たちも、ヨハネのバプテスマを受けて神の正しいことを認めた。
7:29 And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.
7:30 しかし、パリサイ人と律法学者たちとは彼からバプテスマを受けないで、自分たちに対する神のみこころを無にした。）
7:30 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.
7:31 だから今の時代の人々を何に比べようか。彼らは何に似ているか。
7:31 And the Lord said, Unto which then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?
7:32 それは子供たちが広場にすわって、互いに呼びかけ、『わたしたちが笛を吹いたのに、あなたたちは踊ってくれなかった。弔いの歌を歌ったのに、泣いてくれなかった』と言うのに似ている。
7:32 They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and all of you have not danced; we have mourned to you, and all of you have not wept.
7:33 なぜなら、バプテスマのヨハネがきて、パンを食べることも、ぶどう酒を飲むこともしないと、あなたがたは、おれは悪霊につかれているのだ、と言い、
7:33 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and all of you say, He has a devil.
7:34 また人の子がきて食べたり飲んだりしていると、見よ、あれは食をむさぼる者、大酒を飲む者、また収税人、罪人の仲間だ、と言う。
7:34 The Son of man has come eating and drinking; and all of you say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a wine indulger, a friend of publicans and sinners!
7:35 しかし、知恵の正しいことは、そのすべての子が証明する」。
7:35 But wisdom is justified of all her children.
7:36 あるパリサイ人がイエスに、食事を共にしたいと申し出たので、そのパリサイ人の家にはいって食卓に着かれた。
7:36 And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to food.
7:37 するとそのとき、その町で罪の女であったものが、パリサイ人の家で食卓に着いておられることを聞いて、香油の入れてある石膏の壷を持ってきて、
7:37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at food in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
7:38 泣きながら、イエスのうしろでその足もとに寄り、まず涙でイエスの足をぬらし、自分の髪の毛でぬぐい、そして、その足に接吻して、香油を塗った。
7:38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
7:39 イエスを招いたパリサイ人がそれを見て、心の中で言った、「もしこの人が預言者であるなら、自分にさわっている女がだれだか、どんな女かわかるはずだ。それは罪の女なのだから」。
7:39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spoke within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that touches him: for she is a sinner.
7:40 そこでイエスは彼に向かって言われた、「シモン、あなたに言うことがある」。彼は「先生、おっしゃってください」と言った。
7:40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto you. And he says, Master, say on.
7:41 イエスが言われた、ある金貸しに金をかりた人がふたりいたが、ひとりは五百デナリ、もうひとりは五十デナリを借りていた。
7:41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.
7:42 ところが、返すことができなかったので、彼はふたり共ゆるしてやった。このふたりのうちで、どちらが彼を多く愛するだろうか」。
7:42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
7:43 シモンが答えて言った、「多くゆるしてもらったほうだと思います」。イエスが言われた、「あなたの判断は正しい」。
7:43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, You have rightly judged.
7:44 それから女の方に振り向いて、シモンに言われた、「この女を見ないか。わたしがあなたの家にはいってきた時に、あなたは足を洗う水をくれなかった。ところが、この女は涙でわたしの足をぬらし、髪の毛でふいてくれた。
7:44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, See you this woman? I entered into yours house, you gave me no water for my feet: but she has washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.
7:45 あなたはわたしに接吻をしてくれなかったが、彼女はわたしが家にはいった時から、わたしの足に接吻をしてやまなかった。
7:45 You gave me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in has not ceased to kiss my feet.
7:46 あなたはわたしの頭に油を塗ってくれなかったが、彼女はわたしの足に香油を塗ってくれた。
7:46 My head with oil you did not anoint: but this woman has anointed my feet with ointment.
7:47 それて、あなたに言うが、この女は多く愛したから、その多くの罪はゆるされているのである。少しだけゆるされた者は、少しだけしか愛さない」。
7:47 Wherefore I say unto you, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.
7:48 そして女に、「あなたの罪はゆるされた」と言われた。
7:48 And he said unto her, Your sins are forgiven.
7:49 すると同席の者たちが心の中で言いはじめた、「罪をゆるすことさえするこの人は、いったい、何者だろう」。
7:49 And they that sat at food with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgives sins also?
7:50 しかし、イエスは女に向かって言われた、「あなたの信仰があなたを救ったのです。安心して行きなさい」。
7:50 And he said to the woman, Your faith has saved you; go in peace.
8:1 そののちイエスは、神の国の福音を説きまた伝えながら、町々村々を巡回し続けられたが、十二弟子もお供をした。
8:1 And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and showing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him,
8:2 また悪霊を追い出され病気をいやされた数名の婦人たち、すなわち、七つの悪霊を追い出してもらったマグダラと呼ばれるマリヤ、
8:2 And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits (o. pneuma) and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils,
8:3 ヘロデの家令クーザの妻ヨハンナ、スザンナ、そのほか多くの婦人たちも一緒にいて、自分たちの持ち物をもって一行に奉仕した。
8:3 And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance.
8:4 さて、大ぜいの群衆が集まり、その上、町々からの人たちがイエスのところに、ぞくぞくと押し寄せてきたので、一つの譬で話をされた、
8:4 And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spoke by a parable:
8:5 「種まきが種をまきに出て行った。まいているうちに、ある種は道ばたに落ち、踏みつけられ、そして空の鳥に食べられてしまった。
8:5 A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.
8:6 ほかの種は岩の上に落ち、はえはしたが水気がないので枯れてしまった。
8:6 And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.
8:7 ほかの種は、いばらの間に落ちたので、いばらも一緒に茂ってきて、それをふさいでしまった。
8:7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.
8:8 ところが、ところがほかの種はよい地に落ちたので、はえ育って百倍もの実を結んだ」。こう語られたのち、声をあげて「きく耳のある者は聞くがよい」と言われた。
8:8 And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that has ears to hear, let him hear.
8:9 弟子たちは、この譬はどういう意味でしょうか、とイエスに質問した。
8:9 And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be?
8:10 そこで言われた、「あなたがたには、神の国の奥義を知ることが許されているが、ほかの人たちには、見ても見えず、聞いても悟られないために、譬で話すのである。
8:10 And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.
8:11 この譬はこういう意味である。種は神の言である。
8:11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word (o. logos) of God.
8:12 道ばたに落ちたのは、聞いたのち、信じることも救われることもないように、悪魔によってその心から御言が奪い取られる人たちのことである。
8:12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then comes the devil, and takes away the word (o. logos) out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
8:13 岩の上に落ちたのは、御言を聞いた時には喜んで受けいれるが、根がないので、しばらくは信じていても、試練の時が来ると、信仰を捨てる人たちのことである。
8:13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word (o. logos) with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
8:14 いばらの中に落ちたのは、聞いても日を過ごすうちに、生活の心づかいや富や快楽にふさがれて、実を熟するまでにならない人たちのことである。
8:14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
8:15 良い地に落ちたのは、御言を聞いたのち、これを正しい良い心でしっかりと守り、耐え忍んで実を結ぶに至るひとたちのことである。
8:15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, (o. logos) keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.
8:16 だれもあかりをともして、それを何かの器でおおいかぶせたり、寝台の下に置いたりはしない。燭台の上に置いて、はいって来る人たちに光が見えるようにするのである。
8:16 No man, when he has lighted a candle, covers it with a vessel, or puts it under a bed; but sets it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.
8:17 隠されているもので、あらわれないものはなく、秘密にされているもので、ついには知られ、明るみに出されないものはない。
8:17 For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.
8:18 だから、どう聞くかに注意するがよい。持っている人には更に与えられ、持っていない人は、持っていると思っているものまでも、取り上げられるであろう」。
8:18 Take heed therefore how all of you hear: for whosoever has, to him shall be given; and whosoever has not, from him shall be taken even that which he seems to have.
8:19 さて、イエスの母と兄弟たちとがイエスのところにきたが、群衆のためそば近くに行くことができなかった。
8:19 Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press.
8:20 それで、だれかが「あなたの母上と兄弟がたが、お目にかかろうと思って、外に立っておられます」と取次いだ。
8:20 And it was told him by certain which said, Your mother and your brethren stand without, desiring to see you.
8:21 するとイエスは人々にむかって言われた、「神の御言を聞いて行う者こそ、わたしの母、わたしの兄弟なのである」。
8:21 And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word (o. logos) of God, and do it.
8:22 ある日のこと、イエスは弟子たちと船に乗り込み、「湖の向こう岸へわたろう」と言われたので、一同が船出した。
8:22 Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth.
8:23 渡っていく間に、イエスは眠ってしまわれた。すると突風が湖に吹きおろしてきたので、彼らは水をかぶって危険になった。
8:23 But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.
8:24 そこで、みそばに寄ってきてイエスを起こし、「先生、先生、わたしたちは死にそうです」と言った。イエスは起き上がって、風と荒波とをおしかりになると、止んでなぎになった。
8:24 And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.
8:25 イエスは彼らに言われた、「あなたがたの信仰は、どこにあるのか」。かれらは恐れ驚いて互いに言い合った、「いったい、このかたはだれだろう。お命じになると、風も水も従うとは」。
8:25 And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commands even the winds and water, and they obey him.
8:26 それから、彼らはガリラヤの対岸、ゲラサ人の地に渡った。
8:26 And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is opposite to Galilee.
8:27 陸にあがられると、その町の人で、悪霊につかれて長いあいだ着物も着ず、家に居つかないで墓場にばかりいた人に、出会われた。
8:27 And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.
8:28 この人がイエスを見て叫び出し、みまえにひれ伏して大声で言った、「いと高き神の子イエスよ、あなたはわたしとなんの係わりがおるのです。お願いです、わたしを苦しめないでください」。
8:28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with you, Jesus, you Son of God most high? I plead to you, torment me not.
8:29 それは、イエスが汚れた霊に、その人から出て行け、とお命じになったからである。というのは、悪霊が何度も彼をひき捕えたので、彼は鎖と足かせとでつながれて看視されていたが、それを断ち切っては悪霊によって荒野へ追いやられていたのである。
8:29 (For he had commanded the unclean spirit (o. pneuma) to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.)
8:30 イエスは彼に「なんという名前か」とお尋ねになると、「レギオンと言います」と答えた。彼の中にたくさんの悪霊がはいり込んでいたからである。
8:30 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is your name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him.
8:31 悪霊どもは、底知れぬ所に落ちていくことを自分たちにお命じにならぬようにと、イエスに願いつづけた。
8:31 And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep.
8:32 ところが、そこの山べにおびただしい豚の群れが飼ってあったので、その豚の中にはいることを許していただきたいと、悪霊どもが願い出た。イエスはそれをお許しになった。
8:32 And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them.
8:33 そこで悪霊どもは、その人から出て豚の中にはいり込んだ。するとその群れは、がけから湖へなだれを打って駆け下り、おぼれ死んでしまった。
8:33 Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.
8:34 飼う者たちは、この出来事を見て逃げ出して、町や村里にふれまわった。
8:34 When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country.
8:35 人々はこの出来事を見に出てきた。そしてイエスのところにきて、悪霊を追い出してもらった人が着物を着て、正気になってイエスの足もとにすわっているのを見て、恐れた。
8:35 Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
8:36 それを見た人たちは、この悪霊につかれていた者が救われた次第を、彼らに語り聞かせた。
8:36 They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed.
8:37 それから、ゲラサの地方の民衆はこぞって、自分たちの所から立ち去ってくださるようにとイエスに頼んだ。彼らが非常な恐怖に襲われていたからである。そこで、イエスは船に乗って帰りかけられた。
8:37 Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and he went up into the ship, and returned back again.
8:38 悪霊を追い出してもらった人は、お供したいと、しきりに願ったが、イエスはこう言って彼をお帰しになった。
8:38 Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying,
8:39 「家へ帰って、神があなたにどんなに大きなことをしてくださったか、語り聞かせなさい」。そこで彼は立ち去って、自分にイエスがして下さったことを、ことごとく町中に言いひろめた。
8:39 Return to yours own house, and show how great things God has done unto you. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.
8:40 イエスが帰ってこられると、群衆は喜び迎えた。みんながイエスを待ちうけていたのである。
8:40 And it came to pass, that, when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received him: for they were all waiting for him.
8:41 するとそこに、ヤイロという名の人がきた。この人は会堂司であった。イエスの足もとにひれ伏して、自分の家においでくださるようにと、しきりに願った。
8:41 And, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus' feet, and besought him that he would come into his house:
8:42 彼に十二歳ばかりになるひとりむ娘があったが、死にかけていた。ところが、イエスが出て行かれる途中、群衆が押し迫ってきた。
8:42 For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him.
8:43 ここに、十二年間も長血をわずらっていて、医者のために自分の身代をみな使い果たしてしまったが、だれにもなおしてもらえなかった女がいた。
8:43 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,
8:44 この女がうしろから近寄ってみ衣のふさにさわったところ、その長血がたちまち止まってしまった。
8:44 Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stopped.
8:45 イエスは言われた、「わたしにさわったのは、だれか」。人々はみな自分ではないと言ったので、ペテロが「先生、群衆があなたを取り囲んで、ひしめき合っているのです」と答えた。
8:45 And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude crowd upon you and press you, and says you, Who touched me?
8:46 しかしイエスは言われた、「だれかがわたしにさわった。力がわたしから出て行ったのを感じたのだ」。
8:46 And Jesus said, Somebody has touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.
8:47 女は隠しきれないのを知って、震えながら進み出て、みまえにひれ伏し、イエスにさわった訳と、さわるとたちまちなおったこととを、みんなの前で話した。
8:47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.
8:48 そこでイエスが女に言われた、「娘よ、あなたの信仰があなたを救ったのです。安心して行きなさい」。
8:48 And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: your faith has made you whole; go in peace.
8:49 イエスがまだ話しておられるうちに、会堂司の家から人がきて、「お嬢さんはなくなられました。この上、先生を煩わすには及びません」と言った。
8:49 While he yet spoke, there comes one from the ruler of the synagogue's house, saying to him, Your daughter is dead; trouble not the Master.
8:50 しかしイエスはこれを聞いて会堂司にむかって言われた、「恐れることはない。だた信じなさい。娘は助かるのだ」。
8:50 But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.
8:51 それから家にはいられるとき、ペテロ、ヨハネ、ヤコブおよびその子の父母のほかは、だれも一緒にはいって来ることをお許しにならなかった。
8:51 And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden.
8:52 人々はみな、娘のために泣き悲しんでいた。イエスは言われた、「泣くな、娘は死んだのではない。眠っているだけである」。
8:52 And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleeps.
8:53 人々は娘が死んだことを知っていたので、イエスをあざ笑った。
8:53 And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.
8:54 イエスは娘の手を取って、呼びかけて言われた、「娘よ、起きなさい」。
8:54 And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise.
8:55 するとその霊がもどってきて、娘は即座に立ち上がった。イエスは何か食べ物を与えるように、さしずをされた。
8:55 And her spirit (o. pneuma) came again, and she arose immediately: and he commanded to give her food.
8:56 両親は驚いてしまった。イエスはこの出来事をだれにも話さないようにと、彼らに命じられた。
8:56 And her parents were astonished: but he charged them that they should tell no man what was done.
