1:1 わたしたちの救主なる神と、わたしたちの望みであるキリスト・イエスとの任命によるキリスト・イエスの使途パウロから、
1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;
1:2 信仰によるわたしの真実な子テモテへ。父なる神とわたしたちの主キリスト・イエスから、恵みとあわれみと平安とが、あなたにあるように。
1:2 Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.
1:3 わたしがマケドニヤに向かって出発する際、頼んでおいたように、あなたはエペソにとどまっていて、ある人々に、違った教えを説くことをせず、
1:3 As I besought you to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that you might charge some that they teach no other doctrine,
1:4 作り話やはてしのない系図などに気をとられることもないように、命じなさい。そのようなことは信仰による神の努めを果たすものではなく、むしろ論議を引き起こさせるだけのものである。
1:4 Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.
1:5 わたしのこの命令は、清い心と正しい良心と偽りのない信仰とから出てくる愛を目標としている。
1:5 Now the end of the commandment is love (o. agape) out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith sincere:
1:6 ある人々はこれらのものからそれて空論に走り、
1:6 From which some having miss the mark have turned aside unto vain arguments;
1:7 律法の教師たることを志していながら、自分の言っていることも主張していることも、わからないでいる。
1:7 Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.
1:8 わたしたちが知っているとおり、律法なるものは、法に従って用いるなら、良いものである。
1:8 But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;
1:9 すなわち、律法は正しい人のために定められたのではなく、不法な者と法に服さない者、不信心な者と罪にある者、神聖を汚す者と俗悪な者、父を殺す者と母を殺す者、人を殺す者、
1:9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
1:10 不品行な者、男色をする者、誘かいする者、偽る者、偽り誓う者、そのほか健全な教えにもとることがあれば、そのために定められていることを憎むべきである。
1:10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for men-stealers (p. slave traders, kidnappers), for liars, for promise breakers, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;
1:11 これは、祝福に満ちた神の栄光の福音が示すところであって、わたしはこの福音をゆだねられているのである。
1:11 According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.
1:12 わたしは、自分を強くして下さったわたしたちの主キリスト・イエスに感謝する。主はわたしを忠実な者と見て、この努めに任じて下さったのである。
1:12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;
1:13 わたしは以前には、神をそしる者、迫害する者、不遜な者であった。しかしわたしは、これらの事を、信仰がなかったとき、無知なためにしたのだから、哀れみを被ったのである。
1:13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and prone to cause hurt: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
1:14 その上、わたしたちの主の恵みが、キリスト・イエスにある信仰と愛とに伴い、ますます増し加わってきた。
1:14 And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love (o. agape) which is in Christ Jesus.
1:15 「キリスト・イエスは、罪人を救うためにこの世にきて下さった」という言葉は、確実で、そのまま受けいれるに足りるものである。わたしは、その罪人のかしらなのである。
1:15 This is a faithful saying, (o. logos) and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
1:16 しかし、わたしがあわれみをこうむったのは、キリスト・イエスが、まずわたしに対して限りない寛容を示し、そして、わたしが今後、彼を信じて永遠のいのちを受ける者の模範となるためである。
1:16 Nevertheless for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.
1:17 世々の支配者、不朽にして見えざる唯一の神に、世々限りなく、ほまれと栄光とがあるように、アァメン。
1:17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
1:18 わたしの子テモテよ。以前あなたに対してなされた数々の預言の言葉に従って、この命令を与える。あなたは、これらの言葉に励まされて、信仰と正しい良心とを持ちながら、りっぱに戦いぬきなさい。
1:18 This charge I commit unto you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on you, that you by them might war a good warfare;
1:19 ある人々は、正しい良心を捨てたため、信仰の破船に会った。
1:19 Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:
1:20 その中に、ヒメナオとアレキサンデルとがいる。わたしは、神を汚さないことを学ばせるため、このふたりをサタンの手に渡したのである。
1:20 Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.
2:1 そこで、まず第一に勧める。すべての人のために、王たちと上に立っているすべての人々のために、願いと、祈りと、とりなしと、感謝とをささげなさい。
2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2:2 それはわたしたちが、安らかで静かな一生を、真に信心深くまた謹厳に過ごすためである。
2:2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
2:3 これは、わたしたちの救主である神のみまえに良いことであり、また、みこころにかなうことである。
2:3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
2:4 神は、すべての人が救われて、真理を悟るに至ることを望んでおられる。
2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
2:5 神は唯一であり、神と人間との間の中保者もただひとりであって、それは人なるキリスト・イエスである。
2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
2:6 彼は、すべての人のあがないとしてご自身をささげられたが、それは、定められた時になされたあかしにほかならない。
2:6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
2:7 そのために、わたしは立てられて宣教者、使徒となり（わたしは真実を言っている、偽ってはいない）、また異邦人に信仰と真理とを教える教師となったのである。
2:7 Unto which I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.
2:8 男は、いかったり争ったりしないで、どんな場所でも、きよい手をあげて祈ってほしい。
2:8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
2:9 また、女はつつましい身なりをし、適度に慎み深く身を飾るべきであって、髪を編んだり、金や真珠をつけたり、高価な着物を着たりしてはいけない。
2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with reverence and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
2:10 むしろ、良いわざをもって飾りとすることが、信仰を言いあらわしている女に似つかわしい。
2:10 But (which becomes women professing godliness) with good works.
2:11 女は静かにして、万事につけ従順に教えを学がよい。
2:11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
2:12 女が教えたり、男の上に立ったりすることを、わたしは許さない。むしろ、静かにしているべきである。
2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
2:13 なぜなら、アダムがさきに造られ、それからエバが造られたからである。
2:13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
2:14 またアダムは惑わされなかったが、女は惑わされて、あやまちを犯した。
2:14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
2:15 しかし、女が慎み深く、信仰と愛と清さとを持ち続けるなら、子を産むことによって救われるであろう。
2:15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and love (o. agape) and holiness with sobriety.
3:1 「もし人が監督の職を望むなら、それは良い仕事を願うことである」とは正しい言葉である。
3:1 This is a true saying, (o. logos) If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desires a good work.
3:2 さて、監督は、避難のない人で、ひとりの妻の夫であり、自らを制し、慎み深く、礼儀正しく、旅人をもてなし、よく教えることができ、
3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, able to teach;
3:3 酒を好まず、乱暴ではなく、寛容であって、人と争わず、金に淡泊で、
3:3 Not given to wine, not an attacker, not greedy of filthy illegal gain; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
3:4 自分の家をよく治め、謹厳であって、子供たちを従順な者に育てている人でなければならない。
3:4 One that rules well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
3:5 自分の家を治めることも心得ていない人が、どうして神の教会を預かることができようか。
3:5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
3:6 彼はまた、信者になって間もない者であってはならない。そうであると、高慢になって、悪魔と同じ審判を受けるかも知しれない。
3:6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
3:7 さらにまた、教会外の人々にもよく思われている人でなければならない。そうでないと、そしりを受け、悪魔のわなにかかるであろう。
3:7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
3:8 それと同様に、執事も謹厳があって、二枚舌を使わず、大酒を飲まず、利をむさぼらず、
3:8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy illegal gain;
3:9 きよい良心をもって、信仰の奥義を保っていなければならない。
3:9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
3:10 彼らはまず調べられて、不都合なことがなかったなら、それから執事の職につかすべきである。
3:10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.
3:11 女たちも、同様に謹厳で、他人をそしらず、自らを制し、すべてのことに忠実でなければならない。
3:11 Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.
3:12 執事はひとりの妻の夫であって、子供と自分の家とをよく治める者でなければならない。
3:12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
3:13 執事の職をよくつとめた者は、良い地位を得、さらにキリスト・イエスを信じる信仰による、大いなる確信を得るであろう。
3:13 For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
3:14 わたしは、あなたの所にすぐに行きたいと望みながら、この手紙を書いている。
3:14 These things write I unto you, hoping to come unto you shortly:
3:15 万一わたしが遅れる場合には、神の家でいかに生活すべきかを、あなたに知ってもらいたいからである。神の家というのは、生ける神の教会のことであって、それは真理の柱、真理の基礎なのである。
3:15 But if I tarry long, that you may know how you ought to behave yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
3:16 確かに偉大なのは、この信心の奥義である、「キリストは肉において現れ、霊において義とせられ、御使たちに見られ、諸国民の間に伝えられ、世界の中で信じられ、栄光のうちに天に上げられた」。
3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, (o. pneuma) seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
4:1 しかし、御霊は明らかに告げて言う。後の時になると、ある人々は、惑わす霊と悪霊の教えとに気をとられて、信仰から離れ去るであろう。
4:1 Now the Spirit (o. pneuma) speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, (o. pneuma) and doctrines of devils;
4:2 それは、良心に焼き印をおされている偽り者の偽善のしわざである。
4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
4:3 これらの偽り者どもは、結婚を禁じたり、食物を断つことを命じたりする。しかし食物は、信仰があり真理を認める者が、感謝して受けるようにと、神の造られたものである。
4:3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God has created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
4:4 神の造られたものは、みな良いものであって、感謝して受けるなら、何ひとつ捨てるべきものはない。
4:4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
4:5 それらは、神の言と祈りとによって、きよめられるからである。
4:5 For it is sanctified by the word (o. logos) of God and prayer.
4:6 これらのことを兄弟たちに教えるなら、あなたは、信仰の言葉とあなたに従ってきた良い教えの言葉とに養われて、キリスト・イエスの良い奉仕者になるであろう。
4:6 If you put the brethren in remembrance of these things, you shall be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words (o. logos) of faith and of good doctrine, unto which you have attained.
4:7 しかし、俗悪で愚にもつかない作り話は避けなさい。信心のために自分で訓練をしなさい。
4:7 But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise yourself rather unto godliness.
4:8 からだの訓練は少しは益にするところはあるが、信心は、今のいのちと後の世のいのちとが約束されてあるので、万事に益となる。
4:8 For bodily exercise profits little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
4:9 これは確実で、そのまま受けいれるに足る言葉である。
4:9 This is a faithful saying (o. logos) and worthy of all acceptation.
4:10 わたしたちは、このために労し苦しんでいる。それは、すべての人の救主、特に信じる者たちの救主なる生ける神に、望みを置いてきたからである。
4:10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.
4:11 これらの事を命じ、また教えなさい。
4:11 These things command and teach.
4:12 あなたは、年が若いために人に軽んじられてはならない。むしろ、言葉にも、行状にも、愛にも、信仰にも、純潔にも、信者の模範になりなさい。
4:12 Let no man despise your youth; but be you an example of the believers, in word, (o. logos) in conversation, in love, (o. agape) in spirit, (o. pneuma) in faith, in purity.
4:13 わたしがそちらに行く時まで、聖書を朗読することと、勧めをすることと、教えることとに心を用いなさい。
4:13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
4:14 長老の按手を受けた時、預言によってあなたに与えられて内に持っている恵みの賜物を、軽視してはならない。
4:14 Neglect not the gift that is in you, which was given you by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
4:15 すべての事にあなたの進歩があらわれるため、これらの事を実行し、それを励みなさい。
4:15 Meditate upon these things; give yourself wholly to them; that your profiting may appear to all.
4:16 自分のことと教のこととに気をつけ、それらを常につとめなさい。そうすれば、あなたは、自分自身とあなたの教えを聞く者たちとを、救うことになる。
4:16 Take heed unto yourself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this you shall both save yourself, and them that hear you.
5:1 老人をとがめてはいけない。むしろ父親に対するように、話をしてあげなさい。若い男には兄弟に対するように、
5:1 Rebuke not an elder, but implore him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;
5:2 年とった女には母に対するように、若い女には、真に純潔な思いをもって、姉妹に対するように、勧告しなさい。
5:2 The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.
5:3 やもめについては、真にたよりのないやもめたちを、よくしてあげなさい。
5:3 Honour widows that are widows indeed.
5:4 やもめに子か孫かがある場合には、これらの者に、まず自分の家で孝養をつくし、親の恩に報いることを学ばせるべきであろう。それが、神のみこころにかなうことなのである。
5:4 But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to show piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.
5:5 真にたよりのない、ひとり暮らしのやもめは、望みを神において日夜、たえず願いと祈りとに専心するが、
5:5 Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusts in God, and continues in supplications and prayers night and day.
5:6 これに反して、みだらな生活をしているやもめは、生けるしかばねにすぎない。
5:6 But she that lives in pleasure is dead while she lives.
5:7 これらのことを命じて、彼女たちを非難のない者としなさい。
5:7 And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless.
5:8 もしある人が、その親族を、ことに自分の家族をかえりみない場合には、その信仰を捨てたことになるのであって、不信者以上にわるい。
5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
5:9 やもめとして登録されるべき者は、六十歳以下のものではなくて、ひとりの夫の妻であった者、
5:9 Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man.
5:10 また子女をよく養育し、旅人をもてなし、聖徒の足を洗い、困っている人を助け、種々の善行に努めるなど、そのよいわざでひろく認められている者でなければならない。
5:10 Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.
5:11 若いやもめは除外すべきである。彼女たちがキリストにそむいて気ままになると、結婚したがるようになり、
5:11 But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;
5:12 初めの誓いを無視したという非難を受けねばならないからである。
5:12 Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.
5:13 その上、彼女たちはなまけていて、家々を遊び歩くことをおぼえ、なまけるばかりか、むだごとをしゃべって、いたずらに動きまわり、口にしてはならないことを言う。
5:13 And likewise they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but gossiping also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
5:14 そういうわけだから、若いやもめは結婚して子を産み、家をおさめ、そして、反対者にそしられるすきを作らないようにしてほしい。
5:14 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
5:15 彼女たちのうちには、サタンのあとを追って道を踏みはずした者もある。
5:15 For some are already turned aside after Satan.
5:16 女の信者が家にやもめを持っている場合には、自分でそのやもめの世話をしてあげなさい。教会のやっかいになってはいけない。教会は、真にたよりのないやもめの世話をしなければならない。
5:16 If any man or woman that believes have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.
5:17 よい指導をしている長老、特に宣教と教とのために労している長老は、二倍の尊敬を受けるにふさわしい者である。
5:17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word (o. logos) and doctrine.
5:18 聖書は、「穀物をこなしている牛に、くつこをかけてはならない」また「働き人がその報酬を受けるのは当然である」と言っている。
5:18 For the scripture says, You shall not suppress the ox that treads out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.
5:19 長老に対する訴訟は、ふたりか三人の証人がない場合には、受理してはならない。
5:19 Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.
5:20 罪を犯した者に対しては、ほかの人々も恐れをいだくに至るために、すべての人の前でその罪をとがむべきである。
5:20 Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.
5:21 わたしは、神とキリスト・イエスと選ばれた御使たちとの前で、おごそかにあなたに命じる。これらのことを偏見なしに守り、何事についても、不公平な仕方をしてはならない。
5:21 I charge you before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that you observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.
5:22 軽々しく人に手をおいてはならない。また、ほかの人の罪に加わってはいけない。自分をきよく守りなさい。
5:22 Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep yourself pure.
5:23 （これからは、水ばかりを飲まないで、胃のため、また、たびたびのいたみを和らげるために、小量のぶどう酒を用いなさい。）
5:23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for your stomach's sake and yours often infirmities.
5:24 ある人の罪は明白であって、すぐ裁判にかけられるが、ほかの人の罪は、あとになってわかって来る。
5:24 Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.
5:25 それと同じく、良いわざもすぐ明らかになり、そうならない場合でも、隠れていることはあり得ない。
5:25 Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.
6:1 くびきの下にある奴隷はすべて、自分の主人を、真に尊敬すべき者として仰ぐべきである。それは神の御名と教とが、そしりを受けないためである。
6:1 Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.
6:2 信者である主人を持っている者たちは、その主人が兄弟であるというので軽視してはなせない。むしろ、ますます励んで仕えるべきである。その益を受ける主人は、信者であり愛されている人だからである。あなたは、これらのことを教かつ勧めなさい。
6:2 And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.
6:3 もし違ったことを教えて、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの健全な言葉、ならびに信仰にかなう教に同意しないような者があれば、
6:3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, (o. logos) even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
6:4 彼は高慢であって、何も知らず、ただ論議と言葉の争いとに病みついている者である。そこから、ねたみ、争い、そしり、さいぎの心が生じ、
6:4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof comes envy, strife, railings, evil questionings,
6:5 また知性が腐って、真理にそむき、信心を利得と心得る者どもの間に、はてしのないいがみ合いが起こるのである。
6:5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw yourself.
6:6 しかし、信心があってたりることを知るのは、大きな利得である。
6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
6:7 わたしたちは、何ひとつ持たないでこの世にきた。また、何ひとつ持たないでこの世を去って行く。
6:7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
6:8 ただ衣食があれば、それで足れりとすべきである。
6:8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
6:9 富むことを願い求める者は、誘惑と、わなとに陥り、また、人を滅びと破壊とに沈ませる、無分別な恐ろしいさまざまの情欲に陥るのである。
6:9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
6:10 金銭を愛することは、すべての悪の根である。ある人々は欲ばって金銭を求めたため、信仰から迷い出て、多くの苦痛をもって自分自身を刺しとおした。
6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
6:11 しかし、神の人よ。あなたはこれらの事を避けなさい。そして、義と信心と信仰と愛と忍耐と柔和とを追い求めなさい。
6:11 But you, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, (o. agape) patience, meekness.
6:12 信仰の戦いをりっぱに勝ちぬいて、永遠のいのちを獲得しなさい。あなたは、そのために召され、多くの証人の前で、りっぱなあかしをしたのである。
6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, unto which you are also called, and have professed a good profession before many witnesses.
6:13 わたしはすべてのものを生かして下さる神のみまえと、またポンテオ・ヒラトの面前でりっぱなあかしをなさったキリスト・イエスのみまえで、あなたに命じる。
6:13 I give you charge in the sight of God, who replenishes life to all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;
6:14 わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの出現まで、その戒めを汚すことがなく、また、それを非難のないように守りなさい。
6:14 That you keep this commandment without spot, blameless, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:
6:15 時がくれば、祝福に満ちた、ただひとりの力あるかた、もろもろの王の王、もろもろの主の主がキリストを出現させて下さるであろう。
6:15 Which in his times he shall show, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;
6:16 神はただひとり不死を保ち、近づきがたい光の中に住み、人間の中でだれも見た者がなく、見ることもできないかたである。ほまれと永遠の支配とが、神にあるように、アァメン。
6:16 Who only has immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man has seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.
6:17 この世で富んでいる者たちに、命じなさい。高慢にならず、たよりにならない富みに望みをおかず、むしろ、わたしたちにすべての物を豊かに備えて楽しませて下さる神に、のぞみをおくように、
6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy;
6:18 また、良い行いをし、良いわざに富み、惜しみなく施し、人に分け与えることを喜び、
6:18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;
6:19 こうして、真のいのちを得るために、未来に備えてよい土台を自分のために築き上げるように、命じなさい。
6:19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
6:20 テモテよ。あなたにゆだねられていることを守りなさい。そして、俗悪なむだ話と、偽りの「知識」による反対論とを避けなさい。
6:20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to your trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:
6:21 ある人々はそれに熱中して、信仰からそれてしまったのである。恵みが、あなたがたと共にあるように。
6:21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with you. Amen.
1:1 神の御旨により、キリスト・イエスにある命の約束によって立てられたキリスト・イエスの使徒パウロから、
1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,
1:2 愛する子テモテへ。父なる神とわたしたちの主キリスト・イエスから、恵みとあわれみと平安とが、あなたにあるように。
1:2 To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
1:3 わたしは、日夜、祈りの中で、絶えずあなたのことを思い出しては、きよい良心をもって先祖以来つかえている神に感謝している。
1:3 I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of you in my prayers night and day;
1:4 わたしは、あなたの涙をおぼえており、あなたにあって喜びで満たされたいと、切に願っている。
1:4 Greatly desiring to see you, being mindful of your tears, that I may be filled with joy;
1:5 また、あなたがいだいている偽りのない信仰を思い起こしている。この信仰は、まずあなたの祖母ロイスとあなたの母ユニケとに宿ったものであったが、今あなたにも宿っていると、わたしは確信している。
1:5 When I call to remembrance the sincere faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in you also.
1:6 こういうわけで、あなたに注意したい。わたしの按手によって内にいだいていた神の賜物を、再び燃えたたせなさい。
1:6 Wherefore I put you in remembrance that you stir up the gift of God, which is in you by the putting on of my hands.
1:7 というのは、神がわたしたちに下さったのは、臆する霊ではなく、力と愛と慎みとの霊なのである。
1:7 For God has not given us the spirit (o. pneuma) of fear; but of power, and of love, (o. agape) and of a sound mind.
1:8 だから、あなたは、わたしたちの主のあかしをすることや、わたしが主の囚人であることを、決して恥ずかしく思ってはならない。むしろ、神の力にささえられて、福音のために、わたしと苦しみを共にしてほしい。
1:8 Be not you therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be you partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
1:9 神はわたしたちを救い、聖なる招きをもって召して下さったのであるが、それは、わたしたちのわざによるのではなく、神ご自身の計画に基き、また、永遠の昔にキリスト・イエスにあってわたしたちに賜っていた恵み、
1:9 Who has saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
1:10 そして今や、わたしたちの救主キリスト・イエスの出現によって明らかにされた恵みによるのである。キリストは死を滅ぼし、福音によっていのちと不死とを明らかに示されたのである。
1:10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who has abolished death, and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
1:11 わたしは、この福音のために立てられて、その宣教者、使徒、教師になった。
1:11 Unto which I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.
1:12 そのためにまた、わたしはこのような苦しみを受けているが、それを恥としない。なぜなら、わたしは自分の信じてきたかたを知っており、またそのかたは、わたしにゆだねられているものを、かの日に至るまで守って下さることができると、確信しているからである。
1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
1:13 あなたは、キリスト・イエスに対する信仰と愛とをもって、わたしから聞いた健全な言葉を模範にしなさい。
1:13 Hold fast the form of sound words, (o. logos) which you have heard of me, in faith and love (o. agape) which is in Christ Jesus.
1:14 そして、あなたにゆだねられている尊いものを、わたしたちの内に宿っている聖霊によって守りなさい。
1:14 That good thing which was committed unto you keep by the Holy Spirit (o. pneuma) which dwells in us.
1:15 あなたの知っているように、アジヤにいる者たちは、皆わたしから離れて行った。その中には、フゲロとヘルモゲネもいる。
1:15 This you know, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.
1:16 どうか、主が、オネシポロの家にあわれみをたれて下さるように。彼はたびたび、わたしを慰めてくれ、またわたしの鎖を恥とも思わないで、
1:16 The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:
1:17 ローマに着いたときには、熱心にわたしを探しまわった末、尋ね出してくれたのである。
1:17 But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me.
1:18 どうか、主がかの日に、あわれみを彼に賜るように。ーー彼がエペソで、どれほどわたしに仕えてくれたかは、だれよりもあなたがよく知っている。
1:18 The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, you know very well.
2:1 そこで、わたしの子よ。あなたはキリスト・イエスにある恵みによって、強くなりなさい。
2:1 You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2:2 そして、あなたが多くの証人の前でわたしから聞いたことを、さらにほかの者たちにも教えることのできるような忠実な人々に、ゆだねなさい。
2:2 And the things that you have heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit you to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
2:3 キリスト・イエスのよい兵卒として、わたしと苦しみを共にしてほしい。
2:3 You therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
2:4 兵役に服している者は、日常生活のことに煩わされてはいない。ただ、兵を募った指令官を喜ばせようと努める。
2:4 No man that wars entangles himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who has chosen him to be a soldier.
2:5 また、競技をするにしても、規定に従って競技をしなければ、栄冠は得られない。
2:5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
2:6 労苦をする農夫が、だれよりも先に、生産物の分配にあずかるべきである。
2:6 The farmer that labours must be first partaker of the fruits.
2:7 わたしの言うことを、よく考えてみなさい。主は、それを十分に理解する力をあなたに賜るであろう。
2:7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give you understanding in all things.
2:8 ダビデの子孫として生まれ、死人のうちからよみがえったイエス・キリストを、いつも思っていなさい。これがわたしの福音である。
2:8 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:
2:9 この福音のために、わたしは悪者のように苦しめられ、ついに鎖につながれるに至った。しかし、神の言はつながれてはいない。
2:9 Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word (o. logos) of God is not bound.
2:10 それだから、わたしは選ばれた人たちのために、いっさいのことを耐え忍ぶのである。それは、彼らもキリスト・イエスによる救を受け、また、それと共に永遠の栄光を受けるためである。
2:10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
2:11 次の言葉は確実である。「もしわたしたちが、彼と共に死んだなら、また彼と共に生きるであろう。
2:11 It is a faithful saying: (o. logos) For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
2:12 もし耐え忍ぶなら、彼と共に支配者となるであろう。もし彼を否むなら、彼もわたしたちを否むであろう。
2:12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
2:13 たとい、わたしたちは不真実であっても、彼は常に真実である。彼は自分を偽ることが、できないのである」。
2:13 If we believe not, yet he abides faithful: he cannot deny himself.
2:14 あなたは、これらのことを彼らに思い出させて、なんの益もなく、聞いている人々を破滅におとしいれるだけである言葉の争いをしないように、神のみまえでおごそかに命じなさい。
2:14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
2:15 あなたは真理の言葉を正しく教え、恥じることのない練達した働き人になって、神に自分をささげるように努めはげみなさい。
2:15 Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word (o. logos) of truth.
2:16 俗悪なむだ話を避けなさい。それによって人々は、ますます不信心に落ちていき、
2:16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
2:17 彼らの言葉は、がんのように腐れひろがるであろう。その中にはヒメナオとピレトがいる。
2:17 And their word (o. logos) will eat as does a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
2:18 彼らは真理からはずれ、復活はすでに済んでしまったと言い、そして、ある人々の信仰をくつがえしている。
2:18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
2:19 しかし、神のゆるがない土台はすえられていて、それに次の句が証印として、しるされている。「主は自分の者たちを知る」。また、「主の名を呼ぶ者は、すべて不義から離れよ」。
2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God stands sure, having this seal, The Lord knows them that are his. And, Let every one that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
2:20 大きな家には、金や銀の器ばかりではなく、木や土の器もあり、そして、あるものは尊いことに用いられ、あるものは卑しいことに用いられる。
2:20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
2:21 もし人が卑しいものを取り去って自分をきよめるなら、彼は尊いきよめられた器となって、主人に役立つものとなり、すべてのよい技に間に合うようになる。
2:21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
2:22 そこで、あなたはわかい時の情欲を避けなさい。そして、きよい心をもって主を呼び求める人々と共に、義と信仰と愛と平和とを追い求めなさい。
2:22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, love, (o. agape) peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
2:23 愚かで無知な論議をやめなさい。それは、あなたが知っているとおり、ただ争いに終わるだけである。
2:23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
2:24 主の僕たる者は争ってはならない。だれに対しても親切であって、よく教え、よく忍び、
2:24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, able to teach, patient,
2:25 反対する者を柔和な心で教え導くべきである。おそらく神は、彼に悔改めの心を与えて、真理を知らせ、
2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God possibly will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
2:26 一度は悪魔に捕らえられていてその欲するままになっていても、目ざめて彼のわなからのがれさせて下さるであろう。
2:26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
3:1 しかし、このことは知っておかねばならない。終わりの時には、苦難の時代が来る。
3:1 This know also, that in the last days dangerous times shall come.
3:2 その時、人々は自分を愛する者、金を愛する者、大言壮語する者、高慢な者、神をそしる者、親に逆らう者、恩を知らぬ者、神聖を汚す者、
3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3:3 無情な者、融和しない者、そしる者、無節制な者、粗暴な者、善を好まない者、
3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
3:4 裏切り者、乱暴者、高言をする者、神よりも快楽を愛する者、
3:4 Traitors, rebellious, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
3:5 信心深い様子をしながらその実を捨てる者となるであろう。こうした人々を避けなさい。
3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
3:6 彼らの中には、人の家にもぐり込み、そして、さまざまの欲に心を奪われて、多くの罪を積み重ねている愚かな女どもを、とりこにしている者がある。
3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
3:7 彼女たちは、常に学んではいるが、いつになっても真理の知識に達することができない。
3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
3:8 ちょうど、ヤンネとヤンブレとがモーセに逆らったように、こうした人々も真理に逆らうのである。彼らは知性の腐った、信仰の失格者である。
3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
3:9 しかし、彼らはそのまま進んでいけるはずがない。彼らの愚かさは、あのふたりの場合と同じように、多くの人に知られて来るであろう。
3:9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their's also was.
3:10 しかしあなたは、わたしの教、歩み、こころざし、信仰、寛容、愛、忍耐、
3:10 But you have fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, (o. agape) patience,
3:11 それから、わたしがアンテオケ、イコニオム、ルステラで受けた数々の迫害、苦難に、よくも続いてきてくれた。そのひどい迫害にわたしは耐えてきたが、主はそれらいっさいのことから、救い出して下さったのである。
3:11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.
3:12 いったい、キリスト・イエスにあって信心深く生きようとする者は、みな、迫害を受ける。
3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
3:13 悪人と詐欺師とは人を惑わし人に惑わされて、悪から悪へと落ちていく。
3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
3:14 しかし、あなたは、自分が学んで確信しているところに、いつもとどまっていなさい。あなたは、それをだれから学んだか知っており、
3:14 But continue you in the things which you have learned and have been assured of, knowing of whom you have learned them;
3:15 また幼い時から、聖書に親しみ、それが、キリスト・イエスに対する信仰によって救いに至る知恵を、あなたに与えうる書物であることを知っている。
3:15 And that from a child you have known the holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
3:16 聖書は、すべて神の霊感を受けて書かれたものであって、人を教え、戒め、正しくし、義に導くのに有益である。
3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
3:17 それによって、神の人が、あらゆる良いわざに対して十分な準備ができて、完全にととのえられた者になるのである。
3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
4:1 神のみまえと、生きている者と死んだ者とをさばくべきキリスト・イエスの出現とその御国とを思い、おごそかに命じる。
4:1 I charge you therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
4:2 御言を宣べ伝えなさい。時が良くても悪くても、それを励み、あくまでも寛容な心で良く教えて、責め、戒め、勧めなさい。
4:2 Preach the word; (o. logos) be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
4:3 人々が健全な教に耐えられなくなり、耳ざわりのよい話をしてもらおうとして、自分勝手な好みにまかせて教師たちを寄せ集め、
4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4:4 そして、真理からは耳をそむけて、作り話の方にそれていく時が来るであろう。
4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
4:5 しかし、あなたは、何事も慎み、苦難を忍び、伝導者のわざをなし、自分の努めを全うしなさい。
4:5 But watch you in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of your ministry.
4:6 わたしは、すでに自身を犠牲にとしてささげている。わたしが世を去るべき時がきた。
4:6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
4:7 わたしは戦いをりっぱに戦いぬき、走るべき行程を走りつくし、信仰を守りとおした。
4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
4:8 今や、義の冠がわたしを待っているばかりである。かの日には、公平な審判者である主が、それを授けて下さるであろう。わたしばかりではなく、主の出現を心から待ち望んでいたすべての人にも授けて下さるであろう。
4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
4:9 わたしたちの所に、急いで早くきてほしい。
4:9 Do your diligence to come shortly unto me:
4:10 デマスはこの世を愛し、わたしを捨ててテサロニケに行ってしまい、クレスケンはガラテヤに、テトスはダルマテヤに行った。
4:10 For Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.
4:11 ただルカだけが、わたしのもとにいる。マルコを連れて、一緒にきなさい。彼はわたしの努めのために役に立つから。
4:11 Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with you: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.
4:12 わたしはテキコをエペソにつかわした。
4:12 And Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus.
4:13 あなたが来るときに、トロアスのカルポの所に残しておいた上着を持ってきてほしい。また書物も、特に、洋皮紙のを持ってきてもらいたい。
4:13 The coat that I left at Troas with Carpus, when you come, bring with you, and the books, but especially the parchments.
4:14 銅細工人のアレキサンデルが、わたしを大いに苦しめた。主はそのしわざに対して、彼に報いなさるだろう。
4:14 Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works:
4:15 あなたも、彼を警戒しなさい。彼は、わたしたちの言うことに強く反対したのだから。
4:15 Of whom be you ware also; for he has greatly withstood our words. (o. logos)
4:16 わたしの第一回の弁明の際には、わたしに味方する者はひとりもなく、みなわたしを捨てて行った。どうか、彼らが、そのために責められることがないように。
4:16 At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge.
4:17 しかし、わたしが御言を余すところなく宣べ伝えて、すべての異邦人に聞かせるように、主はわたしを助け、力づけて下さった。そして、わたしは、ししの口から助け出されたのである。
4:17 Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.
4:18 主はわたしを、すべての悪のわざから助け出し、天にある御国に救い入れて下さるであろう。栄光が永遠から永遠にわたって主にあるように、アァメン。
4:18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
4:19 プリスカとアクラとに、またオネシポロの家に、よろしく伝えてほしい。
4:19 Salute Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus.
4:20 エラストはコリントにとどまっており、トロピモは病気なので、ミレトに残してきた。
4:20 Erastus abode at Corinth: but Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick.
4:21 冬になる前に、急いできてほしい。ユブロ、プテス、リノス、クラウデヤならびにすべての兄弟たちから、あなたによろしく。
4:21 Do your diligence to come before winter. Eubulus greets you, and Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia, and all the brethren.
4:22 主が、あなたの霊と共にいますように。恵みが、あなたがたと共にあるように。
4:22 The Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. (o. pneuma) Grace be with you. Amen.
