Titus / テトスへの手紙 第一章
1:1 神の僕、イエス・キリストの使徒パウロからーーわたしが使徒とされたのは、神に選ばれた者たちの信仰を強め、また、信心にかなう真理の知識を彼らに得させるためであり、
1:1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;
1:2 偽りのない神が永遠の昔に約束された永遠のいのちの望みに基くのである。
1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
1:3 神は、定められた時に及んで、御言を宣教によって明らかにされたが、わたしは、わたしたちの救主なる神の任命によって、この宣教をゆだねられたのであるーー
1:3 But has in due times manifested his word (o. logos) through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;
1:4 信仰を同じうするわたしの真実の子テトスへ。父なる神とわたしたちの救主キリスト・イエスから、恵みと平安とが、あなたにあるように。
1:4 To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.
1:5 あなたをクレテにおいてきたのは、わたしがあなたに命じておいたようにそこにし残してあることを整理してもらい、また、町々に長老を立ててもらうためにほかならない。
1:5 For this cause left I you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed you:
1:6 長老は、責められる点がなく、ひとりの妻の夫であって、その子たちも不品行のうわさをたてられず、親不孝をしない信者でなくてはならない。
1:6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.
1:7 監督たる者は、神に仕える者として、責められる点がなく、わがままでなく、軽々しく怒らず、酒を好まず、乱暴でなく、利をむさぼらず、
1:7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, not an attacker, not given to filthy illegal gain;
1:8 かえって、旅人をもてなし、善を愛し、慎み深く、正しく、信仰深く、自制する者であり、
1:8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
1:9 教にかなった信頼すべき言葉を守る人でなければならない。それは、彼が健全な教によって人をさとし、また、反対者の誤りを指摘することができるためである。
1:9 Holding fast the faithful word (o. logos) as he has been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
1:10 実は、法に服さない者、空論に走る者、人の心を惑わす者が多くおり、とくに、割礼のある者の中に多い。
1:10 For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:
1:11 彼らの口を封ずべきである。彼らは恥ずべき利のために、教えてはならないことを教えて、数々の家庭を破壊してしまっている。
1:11 Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy illegal gain's sake.
1:12 クレテ人のうちのある預言者が「クレテ人は、いつもうそつきたちの悪いけもの、なまけ者のくいしんぼう」と言っているが、
1:12 One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are always liars, evil beasts, sluggards.
1:13 この非難はあたっている。だから、彼らをきびしく責めて、その信仰を健全なものにし、
1:13 This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
1:14 ユダヤ人の作り話や、真理からそれていった人々の定めなどに、気をとられることがないようにさせなさい。
1:14 Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.
1:15 きよい人には、すべてのものがきよい。しかし、汚れている不信仰な人には、きよいものは一つもなく、その知性も良心も汚れてしまっている。
1:15 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.
1:16 彼らは神を知っていると、口では言うが、行いではそれを否定している。彼らは忌まわしい者、また不従順な者であって、いっさいの良いわざに関しては、失格者である。
1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
2:1 しかし、あなたは、健全な教にかなうことを語りなさい。
2:1 But speak you the things which become sound doctrine:
2:2 老人たちには自らを制し、謹厳で、慎み深くまた信仰と愛と忍耐とにおいて健全であるように勧め、
2:2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in love, (o. agape) in patience.
2:3 年老いた女たちにも、同じように、たち居ふるまいをうやうやしくし、人をそしったり大酒の奴隷となったりせず、良いことを教える者になるように、勧めなさい。
2:3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becomes holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
2:4 そうすれば、彼女たちは、若い女たちに、夫を愛し、子供を愛し、
2:4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
2:5 慎み深く、純潔で、家事に努め、善良で、自分の夫に従順であるように教えることになり、したがって、神の言がそしりを受けないようになるであろう。
2:5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word (o. logos) of God be not blasphemed.
2:6 若い男にも、同じく、万事につけ慎み深くあるように、勧めなさい。
2:6 Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.
2:7 あなた自身を良いわざの模範として示し、人を教える場合には、清廉と謹厳とをもってし、
2:7 In all things showing yourself a pattern of good works: in doctrine showing incorruptness, gravity, sincerity,
2:8 非難のない健全な言葉を用いなさい。そうすれば、反対者も、わたしたちについてなんの悪口も言えなくなり、自ら恥いるであろう。
2:8 Sound speech, (o. logos) that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.
2:9 奴隷には、万事につけその主人に服従して、喜ばれるようになり、反抗せず、
2:9 Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again;
2:10 盗みをせず、どこまでも心をこめた真実を示すようにと、勧めなさい。そうすれば、彼らは万事につけ、わたしたちの救主なる神の教を飾ることにあろう。
2:10 Not embezzling, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.
2:11 すべての人を救う神の恵みが現れた。
2:11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,
2:12 そして、わたしたちを導き、不信心とこの世の情欲とを捨てて、慎み深く、正しく、信心深くこの世で生活し、
2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
2:13 祝福に満ちた望み、すなわち、大いなる神、わたしたちの救主イエス・キリストの栄光の出現を待ち望むようにと、教えている。
2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
2:14 このキリストが、わたしたちのためにご自身をささげられたのは、わたしたちをすべての不法からあがない出して、良いわざに熱心な撰びの民を、ご自身のものとして聖別するためにほかならない。
2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself an exclusive people, zealous of good works.
2:15 あなたは、権威をもってこれらのことを語り、勧め、また責めなさい。だれにも軽んじられてはならない。
2:15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise you.
3:1 あなたは彼らに勧めて、支配者、権威ある者に服し、これに従い、いつでも良いわざをする用意があり、
3:1 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,
3:2 だれをもそしらず、争わず、寛容であって、すべての人に対してどこまでも柔和な態度を示すべきことを、思い出させなさい。
3:2 To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, showing all meekness unto all men.
3:3 わたしたちも以前には、無分別で、不従順な、迷っていた者であって、さまざまの情欲と快楽との奴隷になり、悪意とねたみとで日を過ごし、人に憎まれ、互いに憎み合っていた。
3:3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
3:4 ところが、わたしたちの救主なる神の慈悲と博愛とが現れたとき、
3:4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
3:5 わたしたちの行った義のわざによってではなく、ただ神のあわれみによって、再生の洗いを受け、聖霊により新たにされて、わたしたちは救われたのである。
3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Spirit; (o. pneuma)
3:6 この聖霊は、わたしたちの救主イエス・キリストをとおして、わたしたちの上に豊かに注がれた。
3:6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
3:7 これは、わたしたちが、キリストの恵みによって義とされ、永遠のいのちを望むことによって、御国をつぐ者となるためである。
3:7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
3:8 この言葉は確実である。わたしは、あなたがそれらのことを主張するのを願っている。それは、神を信じている者たちが、努めて良いわざを励むことを心がけるようになるためである。これは良いことであって、人々の益となる。
3:8 This is a faithful saying, (o. logos) and these things I will that you affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.
3:9 しかし、愚かな議論と、系図と、争いと、律法についての論争とを、避けなさい。それらは無益かつ空虚なことである。
3:9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are useless and vain.
3:10 異端者は、一、二度、訓戒を加えた上で退けなさい。
3:10 A man that is an heretic after the first and second admonition reject;
3:11 たしかに、こういう人たちは、邪道に陥り、自ら悪と知りつつも、罪を犯しているからである。
3:11 Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sins, being condemned of himself.
3:12 わたしがアルテマスかテキコかをあなたのところに送ったなら、いそいでニコポリにいるわたしの所にきなさい。わたしは、そこで冬を過ごすことにした。
3:12 When I shall send Artemas unto you, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis: for I have determined there to winter.
3:13 法学者ゼナスと、アポロとを、急いで旅につかせ、不自由のないようにしてあげなさい。
3:13 Bring Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey diligently, that nothing be lacking unto them.
3:14 わたしたちの仲間も、さし迫った必要に備えて、努めて良いわざに励み、実を結ばぬ者とならないように、心がけるべきである。
3:14 And let our's also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.
3:15 わたしと共にいる一同の者から、あなたによろしく。わたしたちを愛している信徒たちに、よろしく。恵みが、あなたがた一同と共にあるように。
3:15 All that are with me salute you. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen.
