11:1 속이는 저울은 여호와께서 미워하셔도 공평한 추는 그가 기뻐하시느니라
11:1 Scales of deceit are hated by the Lord, but a true weight is his delight.
11:1 A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.
11:2 교만이 오면 욕도 오거니와 겸손한 자에게는 지혜가 있느니라
11:2 When pride comes, there comes shame, but wisdom is with the quiet in spirit.
11:2 When pride comes, then comes shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
11:3 정직한 자의 성실은 자기를 인도하거니와 사특한 자의 패역은 자기를 망케 하느니라
11:3 The righteousness of the upright will be their guide, but the twisted ways of the
false will be their destruction.
11:3 The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.
11:4 재물은 진노하시는 날에 무익하나 의리는 죽음을 면케 하느니라
11:4 Wealth is of no profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness keeps a man safe from
death.
11:4 Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivers from death.
11:5 완전한 자는 그 의로 인하여 그 길이 곧게 되려니와 악한 자는 그 악을 인하여
넘어지리라
11:5 The righteousness of the good man will make his way straight, but the sin of the
evil-doer will be the cause of his fall.
11:5 The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.
11:6 정직한 자는 그 의로 인하여 구원을 얻으려니와 사특한 자는 자기의 악에
잡히리라
11:6 The righteousness of the upright will be their salvation, but the false will themselves
be taken in their evil designs.
11:6 The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.
11:7 악인은 죽을 때에 그 소망이 끊어지나니 불의의 소망이 없어지느니라
11:7 At the death of an upright man his hope does not come to an end, but the hope of
the evil-doer comes to destruction.
11:7 When a wicked man dies, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perishes.
11:8 의인은 환난에서 구원을 얻고 악인은 와서 그를 대신하느니라
11:8 The upright man is taken out of trouble, and in his place comes the sinner.
11:8 The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked comes in his position.
11:9 사특한 자는 입으로 그 이웃을 망하게 하여도 의인은 그 지식으로 말미암아
구원을 얻느니라
11:9 With his mouth the evil man sends destruction on his neighbour; but through knowledge
the upright are taken out of trouble.
11:9 An hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.
11:10 의인이 형통하면 성읍이 즐거워하고 악인이 패망하면 기뻐 외치느니라
11:10 When things go well for the upright man, all the town is glad; at the death of sinners,
there are cries of joy.
11:10 When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.
11:11 성읍은 정직한 자의 축원을 인하여 진흥하고 악한 자의 입을 인하여 무너지느니라
11:11 By the blessing of the upright man the town is made great, but it is overturned
by the mouth of the evil-doer.
11:11 By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
11:12 지혜 없는 자는 그 이웃을 멸시하나 명철한 자는 잠잠하느니라
11:12 He who has a poor opinion of his neighbour has no sense, but a wise man keeps quiet.
11:12 He that is void of wisdom despises his neighbour: but a man of understanding holds his peace.
11:13 두루 다니며 한담하는 자는 남의 비밀을 누설하나 마음이 신실한 자는 그런
것을
숨기느니라
11:13 He who goes about talking of others makes secrets public, but the true-hearted man
keeps things covered.
11:13 A talebearer reveals secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit conceals the matter.
11:14 도략이 없으면 백성이 망하여도 모사가 많으면 평안을 누리느니라
11:14 When there is no helping suggestion the people will have a fall, but with a number
of wise guides they will be safe.
11:14 Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.
11:15 타인을 위하여 보증이 되는 자는 손해를 당하여도 보증이 되기를 싫어하는
자는 평안하니라
11:15 He who makes himself responsible for a strange man will undergo much loss; but the
hater of such undertakings will be safe.
11:15 He that is guarantor for a stranger shall smart for it: and he that hates standing for surety is sure.
11:16 유덕한 여자는 존영을 얻고 근면한 남자는 재물을 얻느니라
11:16 A woman who is full of grace is honoured, but a woman hating righteousness is a
seat of shame: those hating work will undergo loss, but the strong keep their wealth.
11:16 A gracious woman retains honour: and strong men retain riches.
11:17 인자한 자는 자기의 영혼을 이롭게 하고 잔인한 자는 자기의 몸을 해롭게
하느니라
11:17 The man who has mercy will be rewarded, but the cruel man is the cause of trouble
to himself.
11:17 The merciful man does good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubles his own flesh.
11:18 악인의 삯은 허무하되 의를 뿌린 자의 상은 확실하니라
11:18 The sinner gets the payment of deceit; but his reward is certain who puts in the
seed of righteousness.
11:18 The wicked works a deceitful work: but to him that sows righteousness shall be a sure reward.
11:19 의를 굳게 지키는 자는 생명에 이르고 악을 따르는 자는 사망에 이르느니라
11:19 So righteousness gives life; but he who goes after evil gets death for himself.
11:19 As righteousness tends to life: so he that pursues evil pursues it to his own death.
11:20 마음이 패려한 자는 여호와의 미움을 받아도 행위가 온전한 자는 그의 기뻐하심을
받느니라
11:20 The uncontrolled are hated by the Lord, but those whose ways are without error are
his delight
11:20 They that are of a perverse heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight.
11:21 악인은 피차 손을 잡을지라도 벌을 면치 못할 것이나 의인의 자손은 구원을
얻으리라
11:21 Certainly the evil-doer will not go free from punishment, but the seed of the upright
man will be safe.
11:21 Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.
11:22 아름다운 여인이 삼가지 아니하는 것은 마치 돼지 코에 금 고리 같으니라
11:22 Like a ring of gold in the nose of a pig, is a beautiful woman who has no sense.
11:22 As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.
11:23 의인의 소원은 오직 선하나 악인의 소망은 진노를 이루느니라
11:23 The desire of the upright man is only for good, but wrath is waiting for the evil-doer.
11:23 The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.
11:24 흩어 구제하여도 더욱 부하게 되는 일이 있나니 과도히 아껴도 가난하게
될 뿐이니라
11:24 A man may give freely, and still his wealth will be increased; and another may keep
back more than is right, but only comes to be in need.
11:24 There is that scatters, and yet increases; and there is that withholds more than is meet, but it tends to poverty.
11:25 구제를 좋아하는 자는 풍족하여질 것이요 남을 윤택하게 하는 자는 윤택하여지리라
11:25 He who gives blessing will be made fat, but the curser will himself be cursed.
11:25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that waters shall be watered also himself.
11:26 곡식을 내지 아니하는 자는 백성에게 저주를 받을 것이나 파는 자는 그
머리에 복이 임하리라
11:26 He who keeps back grain will be cursed by the people; but a blessing will be on
the head of him who lets them have it for a price.
11:26 He that withholds corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that sells it.
11:27 선을 간절히 구하는 자는 은총을 얻으려니와 악을 더듬어 찾는 자에게는
악이 임하리라
11:27 He who, with all his heart, goes after what is good is searching for grace; but
he who is looking for trouble will get it.
11:27 He that diligently seeks good procures favour: but he that seeks mischief, it shall come unto him.
11:28 자기의 재물을 의지하는 자는 패망하려니와 의인은 푸른 잎사귀 같아서
번성하리라
11:28 He who puts his faith in wealth will come to nothing; but the upright man will be
full of growth like the green leaf.
11:28 He that trusts in his riches shall fall; but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.
11:29 자기 집을 해롭게 하는 자의 소득은 바람이라 미련한 자는 마음이 지혜로운
자의 종이 되리라
11:29 The troubler of his house will have the wind for his heritage, and the foolish will
be servant to the wise-hearted.
11:29 He that troubles his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.
11:30 의인의 열매는 생명 나무라 지혜로운 자는 사람을 얻느니라
11:30 The fruit of righteousness is a tree of life, but violent behaviour takes away souls.
11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that wins souls is wise.
11:31 보라 의인이라도 이 세상에서 보응을 받겠거든 하물며 악인과 죄인이리요
11:31 If the upright man is rewarded on earth, how much more the evil-doer and the sinner!
11:31 Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.
12:1 훈계를 좋아하는 자는 지식을 좋아하나니 징계를 싫어하는 자는 짐승과 같으니라
12:1 A lover of training is a lover of knowledge; but a hater of teaching is like a beast.
12:1 Whoso loves instruction loves knowledge: but he that hates reproof is brutish.
12:2 선인은 여호와께 은총을 받으려니와 악을 꾀하는 자는 정죄하심을 받으리라
12:2 A good man has grace in the eyes of the Lord; but the man of evil designs gets punishment
from him.
12:2 A good man obtains favour of the LORD: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.
12:3 사람이 악으로 굳게 서지 못하나니 의인의 뿌리는 움직이지 아니하느니라
12:3 No man will make himself safe through evil-doing; but the root of upright men will
never be moved.
12:3 A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.
12:4 어진 여인은 그 지아비의 면류관이나 욕을 끼치는 여인은 그 지아비로 뼈가
썩음 같게 하느니라
12:4 A woman of virtue is a crown to her husband; but she whose behaviour is a cause
of shame is like a wasting disease in his bones.
12:4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that makes ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.
12:5 의인의 생각은 공직하여도 악인의 도모는 궤휼이니라
12:5 The purposes of upright men are right, but the designs of evil-doers are deceit.
12:5 The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.
12:6 악인의 말은 사람을 엿보아 피를 흘리자 하는 것이어니와 정직한 자의 입은
사람을 구원하느니라
12:6 The words of sinners are destruction for the upright; but the mouth of upright men
is their salvation.
12:6 The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.
12:7 악인은 엎드러져서 소멸되려니와 의인의 집은 서있으리라
12:7 Evil-doers are overturned and never seen again, but the house of upright men will
keep its place.
12:7 The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.
12:8 사람은 그 지혜대로 칭찬을 받으려니와 마음이 패려한 자는 멸시를 받으리라
12:8 A man will be praised in the measure of his wisdom, but a wrong-minded man will
be looked down on.
12:8 A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.
12:9 비천히 여김을 받을지라도 종을 부리는 자는 스스로 높은체 하고도 음식이
핍절한 자보다 나으니라
12:9 He who is of low position and has a servant, is better than one who has a high opinion
of himself and is in need of bread.
12:9 He that is despised, and has a servant, is better than he that honors himself, and lacks bread.
12:10 의인은 그 육축의 생명을 돌아보나 악인의 긍휼은 잔인이니라
12:10 An upright man has thought for the life of his beast, but the hearts of evil-doers
are cruel.
12:10 A righteous man regards the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
12:11 자기의 토지를 경작하는 자는 먹을 것이 많거니와 방탕한 것을 따르는 자는
지혜가 없느니라
12:11 He who does work on his land will not be short of bread; but he who goes after foolish
men is without sense.
12:11 He that tills his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that follows vain persons is void of understanding.
12:12 악인은 불의의 이를 탐하나 의인은 그 뿌리로 말미암아 결실하느니라
12:12 The resting-place of the sinner will come to destruction, but the root of upright
men is for ever.
12:12 The wicked desires the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yields fruit.
12:13 악인은 입술의 허물로 인하여 그물에 걸려도 의인은 환난에서 벗어나느니라
12:13 In the sin of the lips is a net which takes the sinner, but the upright man will
come out of trouble.
12:13 The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.
12:14 사람은 입의 열매로 인하여 복록에 족하며 그 손의 행하는 대로 자기가
받느니라
12:14 From the fruit of his mouth will a man have good food in full measure, and the work
of a man's hands will be rewarded.
12:14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.
12:15 미련한 자는 자기 행위를 바른 줄로 여기나 지혜로운 자는 권고를 듣느니라
12:15 The way of the foolish man seems right to him? but the wise man gives ear to suggestions.
12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkens unto counsel is wise.
12:16 미련한 자는 분노를 당장에 나타내거니와 슬기로운 자는 수욕을 참느니라
12:16 A foolish man lets his trouble be openly seen, but a sharp man keeps shame secret.
12:16 A fool's wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covers shame.
12:17 진리를 말하는 자는 의를 나타내어도 거짓 증인은 궤휼을 말하느니라
12:17 The breathing out of true words gives knowledge of righteousness; but a false witness
gives out deceit.
12:17 He that speaks truth shows forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.
12:18 혹은 칼로 찌름 같이 함부로 말하거니와 지혜로운 자의 혀는 양약 같으니라
12:18 There are some whose uncontrolled talk is like the wounds of a sword, but the tongue
of the wise makes one well again.
12:18 There is that speaks like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.
12:19 진실한 입술은 영원히 보존되거니와 거짓 혀는 눈 깜짝일 동안만 있을 뿐이니라
12:19 True lips are certain for ever, but a false tongue is only for a minute.
12:19 The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
12:20 악을 꾀하는 자의 마음에는 궤휼이 있고 화평을 논하는 자에게는 희락이
있느니라
12:20 Deceit is in the heart of those whose designs are evil, but for those purposing
peace there is joy.
12:20 Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy.
12:21 의인에게는 아무 재앙도 임하지 아니하려니와 악인에게는 앙화가 가득하리라
12:21 No trouble will come to upright men, but sinners will be full of evil.
12:21 There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.
12:22 거짓 입술은 여호와께 미움을 받아도 진실히 행하는 자는 그의 기뻐하심을
받느니라
12:22 False lips are hated by the Lord, but those whose acts are true are his delight.
12:22 Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.
12:23 슬기로운 자는 지식을 감추어 두어도 미련한 자의 마음은 미련한 것을 전파하느니라
12:23 A sharp man keeps back his knowledge; but the heart of foolish men makes clear their
foolish thoughts.
12:23 A prudent man conceals knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaims foolishness.
12:24 부지런한 자의 손은 사람을 다스리게 되어도 게으른 자는 부림을 받느니라
12:24 The hand of the ready worker will have authority, but he who is slow in his work
will be put to forced work.
12:24 The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.
12:25 근심이 사람의 마음에 있으면 그것으로 번뇌케 하나 선한 말은 그것을 즐겁게
하느니라
12:25 Care in the heart of a man makes it weighted down, but a good word makes it glad.
12:25 Heaviness in the heart of man makes it stoop: but a good word makes it glad.
12:26 의인은 그 이웃의 인도자가 되나 악인의 소행은 자기를 미혹하게 하느니라
12:26 The upright man is a guide to his neighbour, but the way of evil-doers is a cause
of error to them.
12:26 The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduces them.
12:27 게으른 자는 그 잡을 것도 사냥하지 아니하나니 사람의 부귀는 부지런한
것이니라
12:27 He who is slow in his work does not go in search of food; but the ready worker gets
much wealth.
12:27 The slothful man roasts not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.
12:28 의로운 길에 생명이 있나니 그 길에는 사망이 없느니라
12:28 In the road of righteousness is life, but the way of the evil-doer goes to death.
12:28 In the way of righteousness is life: and in the pathway thereof there is no death.
13:1 지혜로운 아들은 아비의 훈계를 들으나 거만한 자는 꾸지람을 즐겨 듣지
아니하느니라
13:1 A wise son is a lover of teaching, but the ears of the haters of authority are shut
to sharp words.
13:1 A wise son hears his father's instruction: but a scorner hears not rebuke.
13:2 사람은 입의 열매로 인하여 복록을 누리거니와 마음이 궤사한 자는 강포를
당하느니라
13:2 A man will get good from the fruit of his lips, but the desire of the false is for
violent acts.
13:2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.
13:3 입을 지키는 자는 그 생명을 보전하나 입술을 크게 벌리는 자에게는 멸망이
오느니라
13:3 He who keeps a watch on his mouth keeps his life; but he whose lips are open wide
will have destruction.
13:3 He that keeps his mouth keeps his life: but he that opens wide his lips shall have destruction.
13:4 게으른 자는 마음으로 원하여도 얻지 못하나 부지런한 자의 마음은 풍족함을
얻느니라
13:4 The hater of work does not get his desires, but the soul of the hard workers will
be made fat.
13:4 The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
13:5 의인은 거짓말을 미워하나 악인은 행위가 흉악하여 부끄러운데 이르느니라
13:5 The upright man is a hater of false words: the evil-doer gets a bad name and is
put to shame.
13:5 A righteous man hates lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and comes to shame.
13:6 의는 행실이 정직한 자를 보호하고 악은 죄인을 패망케 하느니라
13:6 Righteousness keeps safe him whose way is without error, but evil-doers are overturned
by sin.
13:6 Righteousness keeps him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthrows the sinner.
13:7 스스로 부한 체하여도 아무 것도 없는 자가 있고 스스로 가난한 체하여도
재물이 많은 자가 있느니라
13:7 A man may be acting as if he had wealth, but have nothing; another may seem poor,
but have great wealth.
13:7 There is that makes himself rich, yet has nothing: there is that makes himself poor, yet has great riches.
13:8 사람의 재물이 그 생명을 속할 수는 있으나 가난한 자는 협박을 받을 일이
없느니라
13:8 A man will give his wealth in exchange for his life; but the poor will not give
ear to sharp words.
13:8 The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor hears not rebuke.
13:9 의인의 빛은 환하게 빛나고 악인의 등불은 꺼지느니라
13:9 There is a glad dawn for the upright man, but the light of the sinner will be put
out.
13:9 The light of the righteous rejoices: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
13:10 교만에서는 다툼만 일어날 뿐이라 권면을 듣는 자는 지혜가 있느니라
13:10 The only effect of pride is fighting; but wisdom is with the quiet in spirit.
13:10 Only by pride comes contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.
13:11 망령되이 얻은 재물은 줄어가고 손으로 모은 것은 늘어가느니라
13:11 Wealth quickly got will become less; but he who gets a store by the work of his
hands will have it increased.
13:11 Wealth got by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathers by labour shall increase.
13:12 소망이 더디 이루게 되면 그것이 마음을 상하게 하나니 소원이 이루는 것은
곧 생명나무니라
13:12 Hope put off is a weariness to the heart; but when what is desired comes, it is
a tree of life.
13:12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick: but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.
13:13 말씀을 멸시하는 자는 패망을 이루고 계명을 두려워하는 자는 상을 얻느니라
13:13 He who makes sport of the word will come to destruction, but the respecter of the
law will be rewarded.
13:13 Whoso despises the word shall be destroyed: but he that fears the commandment shall be rewarded.
13:14 지혜 있는 자의 교훈은 생명의 샘이라 사람으로 사망의 그물을 벗어나게
하느니라
13:14 The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, turning men away from the nets of
death.
13:14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
13:15 선한 지혜는 은혜를 베푸나 궤사한 자의 길은 험하니라
13:15 Wise behaviour gets approval, but the way of the false is their destruction.
13:15 Good understanding gives favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.
13:16 무릇 슬기로운 자는 지식으로 행하여도 미련한 자는 자기의 미련한 것을
나타내느니라
13:16 A sharp man does everything with knowledge, but a foolish man makes clear his foolish
thoughts.
13:16 Every prudent man deals with knowledge: but a fool lays open his folly.
13:17 악한 사자는 재앙에 빠져도 충성된 사신은 양약이 되느니라
13:17 A man taking false news is a cause of trouble, but he who gives news rightly makes
things well.
13:17 A wicked messenger falls into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.
13:18 훈계를 저버리는 자에게는 궁핍과 수욕이 이르거니와 경계를 지키는 자는
존영을 얻느니라
13:18 Need and shame will be the fate of him who is uncontrolled by training; but he who
takes note of teaching will be honoured.
13:18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuses instruction: but he that regards reproof shall be honoured.
13:19 소원을 성취하면 마음에 달아도 미련한 자는 악에서 떠나기를 싫어하느니라
13:19 To get one's desire is sweet to the soul, but to give up evil is disgusting to the
foolish.
13:19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.
13:20 지혜로운 자와 동행하면 지혜를 얻고 미련한 자와 사귀면 해를 받느니라
13:20 Go with wise men and be wise: but he who keeps company with the foolish will be
broken.
13:20 He that walks with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
13:21 재앙은 죄인을 따르고 선한 보응은 의인에게 이르느니라
13:21 Evil will overtake sinners, but the upright will be rewarded with good.
13:21 Evil pursues sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repaid.
13:22 선인은 그 산업을 자자 손손에게 끼쳐도 죄인의 재물은 의인을 위하여 쌓이느니라
13:22 The heritage of the good man is handed down to his children's children; and the
wealth of the sinner is stored up for the upright man.
13:22 A good man left an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
13:23 가난한 자는 밭을 경작하므로 양식이 많아지거늘 혹 불의로 인하여 가산을
탕패하는 자가 있느니라
13:23 There is much food in the ploughed land of the poor; but it is taken away by wrongdoing.
13:23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for lack of judgment.
13:24 초달을 차마 못하는 자는 그 자식을 미워함이라 자식을 사랑하는 자는 근실히
징계하느니라
13:24 He who keeps back his rod is unkind to his son: the loving father gives punishment
with care.
13:24 He that spares his rod hates his son: but he that loves him chastens him early.
13:25 의인은 포식하여도 악인의 배는 주리느니라
13:25 The upright man has food to the full measure of his desire, but there will be no
food for the stomach of evil-doers.
13:25 The righteous eats to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall lack.
14:1 무릇 지혜로운 여인은 그 집을 세우되 미련한 여인은 자기 손으로 그것을
허느니라
14:1 Wisdom is building her house, but the foolish woman is pulling it down with her
hands.
14:1 Every wise woman builds her house: but the foolish plucks it down with her hands.
14:2 정직하게 행하는 자는 여호와를 경외하여도 패역하게 행하는 자는 여호와를
경멸히 여기느니라
14:2 He who goes on his way in righteousness has before him the fear of the Lord; but
he whose ways are twisted gives him no honour.
14:2 He that walks in his uprightness fears the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despises him.
14:3 미련한 자는 교만하여 입으로 매를 자청하고 지혜로운 자는 입술로 스스로
보전하느니라
14:3 In the mouth of the foolish man is a rod for his back, but the lips of the wise
will keep them safe.
14:3 In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.
14:4 소가 없으면 구유는 깨끗하려니와 소의 힘으로 얻는 것이 많으니라
14:4 Where there are no oxen, their food-place is clean; but much increase comes through
the strength of the ox.
14:4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.
14:5 신실한 증인은 거짓말을 아니하여도 거짓 증인은 거짓말을 뱉느니라

14:6 거만한 자는 지혜를 구하여도 얻지 못하거니와 명철한 자는 지식 얻기가 쉬우니라
14:6 The hater of authority, searching for wisdom, does not get it; but knowledge comes
readily to the open-minded man.
14:6 A scorner seeks wisdom, and finds it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understands.
14:7 너는 미련한 자의 앞을 떠나라 그 입술에 지식 있음을 보지 못함이니라
14:7 Go away from the foolish man, for you will not see the lips of knowledge.
14:7 Go from the presence of a foolish man, when you perceive not in him the lips of knowledge.
14:8 슬기로운 자의 지혜는 자기의 길을 아는 것이라도 미련한 자의 어리석음은
속이는 것이니라

of the foolish is deceit.
14:8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.
14:9 미련한 자는 죄를 심상히 여겨도 정직한 자 중에는 은혜가 있느니라
14:9 In the tents of those hating authority there is error, but in the house of the upright
man there is grace.
14:9 Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.
14:10 마음의 고통은 자기가 알고 마음의 즐거움도 타인이 참예하지 못하느니라

in his joy.
14:10 The heart knows his own bitterness; and a stranger does not intermeddle with his joy.
14:11 악한 자의 집은 망하겠고 정직한 자의 장막은 흥하리라

do well.
14:11 The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.
14:12 어떤 길은 사람의 보기에 바르나 필경은 사망의 길이니라
14:12 There is a way which seems straight before a man, but its end is the ways of death.

14:13 웃을 때에도 마음에 슬픔이 있고 즐거움의 끝에도 근심이 있느니라

14:14 마음이 패려한 자는 자기 행위로 보응이 만족하겠고 선한 사람도 자기의

14:14 He whose heart is turned away will have the reward of his ways in full measure;
but a good man will have the reward of his doings.
14:14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.
14:15 어리석은 자는 온갖 말을 믿으나 슬기로운 자는 그 행동을 삼가느니라
14:15 The simple man has faith in every word, but the man of good sense gives thought
to his footsteps.
14:15 The simple believes every word: but the prudent man looks well to his going.
14:16 지혜로운 자는 두려워하여 악을 떠나나 어리석은 자는 방자하여 스스로

14:16 A wise man fears, and departs from evil: but the fool rages, and is confident.
14:17 노하기를 속히 하는 자는 어리석은 일을 행하고 악한 계교를 꾀하는 자는
미움을 받느니라
14:17 He who is quickly angry will do what is foolish, but the man of good sense will
have quiet.
14:17 He that is soon angry deals foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.
14:18 어리석은 자는 어리석음으로 기업을 삼아도 슬기로운 자는 지식으로 면류관을
삼느니라
14:18 Foolish behaviour is the heritage of the simple, but men of good sense are crowned
with knowledge.

14:19 악인은 선인 앞에 엎드리고 불의자는 의인의 문에 엎드리느니라

14:20 가난한 자는 그 이웃에게도 미움을 받게 되나 부요한 자는 친구가 많으니라
14:20 The poor man is hated even by his neighbour, but the man of wealth has numbers of

14:21 그 이웃을 업신여기는 자는 죄를 범하는 자요 빈곤한 자를 불쌍히 여기는
자는 복이 있는 자니라
14:21 He who has no respect for his neighbour is a sinner, but he who has pity for the
poor is happy.
14:21 He that despises his neighbour sins: but he that has mercy on the poor, happy is he.
14:22 악을 도모하는 자는 그릇 가는 것이 아니냐 선을 도모하는 자에게는 인자와
진리가 있으리라
14:22 Will not the designers of evil come into error? But mercy and good faith are for
the designers of good.
14:22 Do they not go astray that devise evil? but mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good.
14:23 모든 수고에는 이익이 있어도 입술의 말은 궁핍을 이룰 뿐이니라
14:23 In all hard work there is profit, but talk only makes a man poor.
14:23 In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tends only to destitution.
14:24 지혜로운 자의 재물은 그의 면류관이요 미련한 자의 소유는 다만 그 미련한
것이니라
14:24 Their wisdom is a crown to the wise, but their foolish behaviour is round the head

14:30 마음의 화평은 육신의 생명이나 시기는 뼈의 썩음이니라
14:30 A quiet mind is the life of the body, but envy is a disease in the bones.

14:31 가난한 사람을 학대하는 자는 그를 지으신 이를 멸시하는 자요 궁핍한 사람을
불쌍히 여기는 자는 주를 존경하는 자니라
14:31 He who is hard on the poor puts shame on his Maker; but he who has mercy on those
who are in need gives him honour.

14:32 악인은 그 환난에 엎드러져도 의인은 그 죽음에도 소망이 있느니라

15:1 유순한 대답은 분노를 쉬게 하여도 과격한 말은 노를 격동하느니라

15:2 지혜 있는 자의 혀는 지식을 선히 베풀고 미련한 자의 입은 미련한 것을

is dear to him.

15:10 도를 배반하는 자는 엄한 징계를 받을 것이요 견책을 싫어하는 자는 죽을
것이니라
15:10 There is bitter punishment for him who is turned from the way; and death will be
the fate of the hater of teaching.
15:10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsakes the way: and he that hates reproof shall die.
15:11 음부와 유명도 여호와의 앞에 드러나거든 하물며 인생의 마음이리요
15:11 Before the Lord are the underworld and destruction: how much more, then, the hearts
of the children of men!
15:11 Hell and destruction are before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?
15:12 거만한 자는 견책 받기를 좋아하지 아니하며 지혜 있는 자에게로 가지도
아니하느니라
15:12 The hater of authority has no love for teaching: he will not go to the wise.
15:12 A scorner loves not one that reproves him: neither will he go unto the wise.
15:13 마음의 즐거움은 얼굴을 빛나게 하여도 마음의 근심은 심령을 상하게 하느니라
15:13 A glad heart makes a shining face, but by the sorrow of the heart the spirit is

are the food of the unwise.

15:15 고난 받는 자는 그 날이 다 험악하나 마음이 즐거운 자는 항상 잔치하느니라

15:16 가산이 적어도 여호와를 경외하는 것이 크게 부하고 번뇌하는 것보다 나으니라

15:17 여간 채소를 먹으며 서로 사랑하는 것이 살진 소를 먹으며 서로 미워하는

15:26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.
15:27 이를 탐하는 자는 자기 집을 해롭게 하나 뇌물을 싫어하는 자는 사느니라
15:27 He whose desires are fixed on profit is a cause of trouble to his family; but he
who has no desire for offerings will have life.
15:27 He that is greedy of gain troubles his own house; but he that hates gifts shall live.
15:28 의인의 마음은 대답할 말을 깊이 생각하여도 악인의 입은 악을 쏟느니라
15:28 The heart of the upright gives thought to his answer; but from the mouth of the
evil-doer comes a stream of evil things.

15:29 여호와는 악인을 멀리 하시고 의인의 기도를 들으시느니라

15:30 눈의 밝은 것은 마음을 기쁘게 하고 좋은 기별은 뼈를 윤택하게 하느니라
15:30 The light of the eyes is a joy to the heart, and good news makes the bones fat.

15:31 생명의 경계를 듣는 귀는 지혜로운 자 가운데 있느니라

16:1 마음의 경영은 사람에게 있어도 말의 응답은 여호와께로서 나느니라

Lord.

16:2 사람의 행위가 자기 보기에는 모두 깨끗하여도 여호와는 심령을 감찰하시느니라
16:2 All a man's ways are clean to himself; but the Lord puts men's spirits into his

16:2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weights the spirits.
16:3 너의 행사를 여호와께 맡기라 그리하면 너의 경영하는 것이 이루리라
16:3 Put your works into the hands of the Lord, and your purposes will be made certain.

16:4 여호와께서 온갖 것을 그 씌움에 적당하게 지으셨나니 악인도 악한 날에

16:4 The Lord has made everything for his purpose, even the sinner for the day of evil.

16:5 무릇 마음이 교만한 자를 여호와께서 미워하시나니 피차 손을 잡을지라도
벌을 면치 못하리라
16:5 Everyone who has pride in his heart is disgusting to the Lord: he will certainly
not go free from punishment.
16:5 Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
16:6 인자와 진리로 인하여 죄악이 속하게 되고 여호와를 경외함으로 인하여 악에서
떠나게 되느니라
16:6 By mercy and good faith evil-doing is taken away: and by the fear of the Lord men
are turned away from evil.
16:6 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.
16:7 사람의 행위가 여호와를 기쁘시게 하면 그 사람의 원수라도 그로 더불어
화목하게 하시느니라
16:7 When a man's ways are pleasing to the Lord, he makes even his haters be at peace
with him.
16:7 When a man's ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.
16:8 적은 소득이 의를 겸하면 많은 소득이 불의를 겸한 것보다 나으니라
16:8 Better is a little with righteousness, than great wealth with wrongdoing.

16:9 사람이 마음으로 자기의 길을 계획할지라도 그 걸음을 인도하는 자는 여호와시니라

16:10 하나님의 말씀이 왕의 입술에 있은즉 재판할 때에 그 입이 그릇하지 아니하리라

16:11 공평한 간칭과 명칭은 여호와의 것이요 주머니 속의 추돌들도 다 그의 지으신

16:11 True measures and scales are the Lord's: all the weights of the bag are his work.
16:11 A just weight and balance are the LORD's: all the weights of the bag are his work.
16:12 악을 행하는 것은 왕의 미워할 바니 이는 그 보좌가 공의로 말미암아 굳게
섬이니라
16:12 Evil-doing is disgusting to kings: for the seat of the ruler is based on righteousness.
16:12 It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.
16:13 의로운 입술은 왕들의 기뻐하는 것이요 정직히 말하는 자는 그들의 사랑을
입느니라
16:13 Lips of righteousness are the delight of kings; and he who says what is upright
is dear to him.

16:14 왕의 진노는 살륙의 사자와 같아도 지혜로운 사람은 그것을 쉬게 하리라

put peace in place of it.

16:15 왕의 희색에 생명이 있나니 그 은택이 늦은 비를 내리는 구름과 같으니라

desired than silver.

16:20 He who gives attention to the law of right will get good; and whoever puts his faith
in the Lord is happy.

his part in the heritage among brothers.

tongue.

17:5 가난한 자를 조롱하는 자는 이를 지으신 주를 멸시하는 자요 사람의 재앙을
기뻐하는 자는 형벌을 면치 못할 자니라
17:5 Whoever makes sport of the poor puts shame on his Maker; and he who is glad because
of trouble will not go free from punishment.

17:11 An uncontrolled man is only looking for trouble, so a cruel servant will be sent

than with a foolish man acting foolishly.

17:16 How will money in the hand of the foolish get him wisdom, seeing that he has no
sense?
17:16 Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he has no heart to it?
17:17 친구는 사랑이 끊이지 아니하고 형제는 위급한 때까지 위하여 났느니라
17:17 A friend is loving at all times, and becomes a brother in times of trouble.
17:17 A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
17:18 지혜 없는 자는 남의 손을 잡고 그 이웃 앞에서 보증이 되느니라
17:18 A man without sense gives his hand in an agreement, and makes himself responsible
before his neighbour.

for destruction.

17:20 Nothing good comes to him whose heart is fixed on evil purposes: and he who has
an evil tongue will come to trouble.

shut he is credited with good sense.

18:1 무리에게서 스스로 나뉘는 자는 자기 소욕을 따르는 자라 온갖 참 지혜를
배척하느니라
18:1 He who keeps himself separate for his private purpose goes against all good sense.
18:1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeks and intermeddles with all wisdom.
18:2 미련한 자는 명철을 기뻐하지 아니하고 자기의 의사를 드러내기만 기뻐하느니라
18:2 A foolish man has no pleasure in good sense, but only to let what is in his heart

18:11 부자의 재물은 그의 견고한 성이라 그가 높은 성벽 같이 여기느니라

the thoughts of his heart.

18:12 사람의 마음의 교만은 멸망의 선봉이요 겸손은 존귀의 앞잡이니라
18:12 Before destruction the heart of man is full of pride, and before honour goes a gentle
spirit.

18:13 사연을 듣기 전에 대답하는 자는 미련하여 욕을 당하느니라
18:13 To give an answer before hearing is a foolish thing and a cause of shame.

18:20 사람은 입에서 나오는 열매로 하여 배가 부르게 되나니 곧 그 입술에서

no note of the word.

19:21 A man's heart may be full of designs, but the purpose of the Lord is unchanging.
19:21 There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.
19:22 사람은 그 인자함으로 남에게 사모함을 받느니라 가난한 자는 거짓말하는
자보다 나으니라
19:22 The ornament of a man is his mercy, and a poor man is better than one who is false.
19:22 The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.
19:23 여호와를 경외하는 것은 사람으로 생명에 이르게 하는 것이라 경외하는
자는 족하게 지내고 재앙을 만나지 아니하느니라
19:23 The fear of the Lord gives life: and he who has it will have need of nothing; no
evil will come his way.
19:23 The fear of the LORD tends to life: and he that has it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
19:24 게으른 자는 그 손을 그릇에 넣고도 입으로 올리기를 괴로워하느니라
19:24 The hater of work puts his hand deep into the basin, and will not even take it to
his mouth again.
19:24 A slothful man hides his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
19:25 거만한 자를 때리라 그리하면 어리석은 자도 경성하리라 명철한 자를 견책하라
그리하면 그가 지식을 얻으리라
19:25 When blows overtake the man of pride, the simple will get sense; say sharp words
to the wise, and knowledge will be made clear to him.
19:25 Strike a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that has understanding, and he will understand knowledge.
19:26 아비를 구박하고 어미를 쫓아내는 자는 부끄러움을 끼치며 능욕을 부르는
자식이니라
19:26 He who is violent to his father, driving away his mother, is a son causing shame
and a bad name.
19:26 He that wastes his father, and chases away his mother, is a son that causes shame, and brings reproach.
19:27 내 아들아 지식의 말씀에서 떠나게 하는 교훈을 듣지 말지니라
19:27 A son who no longer gives attention to teaching is turned away from the words of
knowledge.
19:27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causes to go astray from the words of knowledge.
19:28 망령된 증인은 공의를 업신여기고 악인의 입은 죄악을 삼키느니라
19:28 A good-for-nothing witness makes sport of the judge's decision: and the mouth of
evil-doers sends out evil like a stream.
19:28 An ungodly witness scorns judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devours iniquity.
19:29 심판은 거만한 자를 위하여 예비된 것이요 채찍은 어리석은 자의 등을 위하여
예비된 것이니라
19:29 Rods are being made ready for the man of pride, and blows for the back of the foolish.
19:29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
20:1 포도주는 거만케 하는 것이요 독주는 떠들게 하는 것이라 무릇 이에 미혹되는
자에게는 지혜가 없느니라
20:1 Wine makes men foolish, and strong drink makes men come to blows; and whoever comes
into error through these is not wise.
20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
20:2 왕의 진노는 사자의 부르짖음 같으니 그를 노하게 하는 것은 자기의 생명을
해하는 것이니라
20:2 The wrath of a king is like the loud cry of a lion: he who makes him angry does
wrong against himself.
20:2 The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provokes him to anger sins against his own soul.
20:3 다툼을 멀리 하는 것이 사람에게 영광이어늘 미련한 자마다 다툼을 일으키느니라
20:3 It is an honour for a man to keep from fighting, but the foolish are ever at war.

20:4 게으른 자는 가을에 밭 갈지 아니하나니 그러므로 거둘 때에는 구걸할지라도

of grain-cutting he will be requesting food and will get nothing.
20:4 The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.
20:5 사람의 마음에 있는 모략은 깊은 물 같으니라 그럴지라도 명철한 사람은
그것을 길어 내느니라
20:5 The purpose in the heart of a man is like deep water, but a man of good sense will
get it out.
20:5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
20:6 많은 사람은 각기 자기의 인자함을 자랑하나니 충성된 자를 누가 만날 수
있으랴
20:6 Most men make no secret of their kind acts: but where is a man of good faith to
be seen?
20:6 Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?
20:7 완전히 행하는 자가 의인이라 그 후손에게 복이 있느니라
20:7 An upright man goes on in his righteousness: happy are his children after him!
20:7 The just man walks in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.
20:8 심판 자리에 앉은 왕은 그 눈으로 모든 악을 흩어지게 하느니라
20:8 A king on the seat of judging puts to flight all evil with his eyes.
20:8 A king that sits in the throne of judgment scatters away all evil with his eyes.
20:9 내가 내 마음을 정하게 하였다 내 죄를 깨끗하게 하였다 할 자가 누구뇨
20:9 Who is able to say, I have made my heart clean, I am free from my sin?
20:9 Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
20:10 한결 같지 않은 저울 추와 말은 다 여호와께서 미워하시느니라
20:10 Unequal weights and unequal measures, they are all disgusting to the Lord.
20:10 Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD.
20:11 비록 아이라도 그 동작으로 자기의 품행의 청결하며 정직한 여부를 나타내느니라
20:11 Even a child may be judged by his doings, if his work is free from sin and if it
is right.
20:11 Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.
20:12 듣는 귀와 보는 눈은 다 여호와의 지으신 것이니라
20:12 The hearing ear and the seeing eye are equally the Lord's work.
20:12 The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD has made even both of them.
20:13 너는 잠자기를 좋아하지 말라 네가 빈궁하게 될까 두려우니라 네 눈을 뜨라
그리하면 양식에 족하리라
20:13 Do not be a lover of sleep, or you will become poor: keep your eyes open, and you
will have bread enough.
20:13 Love not sleep, lest you come to poverty; open yours eyes, and you shall be satisfied with bread.
20:14 사는 자가 물건이 좋지 못하다 좋지 못하다 하다가 돌아간 후에는 자랑하느니라
20:14 A poor thing, a poor thing, says he who is giving money for goods: but when he has
gone on his way, then he makes clear his pride in what he has got.
20:14 It is nil, it is nil, says the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasts.
20:15 세상에 금도 있고 진주도 많거니와 지혜로운 입술이 더욱 귀한 보배니라
20:15 There is gold and a store of corals: but the lips of knowledge are a jewel of great
price.

20:16 타인을 위하여 보증이 된 자의 옷을 취하라 외인들의 보증이 된 자는 그
몸을 볼모 잡힐지니라

an undertaking from him who gives his word for strange men.

20:17 속이고 취한 식물은 맛이 좋은 듯하나 후에는 그 입에 모래가 가득하게
되리라
20:17 Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but after, his mouth will be full of sand.

20:18 무릇 경영은 의논함으로 성취하나니 모략을 베풀고 전쟁할지니라

20:19 두루 다니며 한담하는 자는 남의 비밀을 누설하나니 입술을 벌린 자를 사귀지

the blackest night.

will be your saviour.
20:22 Say not you, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save you.
20:23 한결 같지 않은 저울 추는 여호와의 미워하시는 것이요 속이는 저울은 좋지
못한 것이니라
20:23 Unequal weights are disgusting to the Lord, and false scales are not good.
20:23 Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good.
20:24 사람의 걸음은 여호와께로서 말미암나니 사람이 어찌 자기의 길을 알 수
있으랴
20:24 A man's steps are of the Lord; how then may a man have knowledge of his way?
20:24 Man's activities are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?
20:25 함부로 이 물건을 거룩하다 하여 서원하고 그 후에 살피면 그것이 그물이
되느니라
20:25 It is a danger to a man to say without thought, It is holy, and, after taking his
oaths, to be questioning if it is necessary to keep them.
20:25 It is a snare to the man who devours that which is holy, and after vows to make enquiry.
20:26 지혜로운 왕은 악인을 키질하며 타작하는 바퀴로 그 위에 굴리느니라
20:26 A wise king puts evil-doers to flight, and makes their evil-doing come back on them.
20:26 A wise king scatters the wicked, and brings the wheel over them.
20:27 사람의 영혼은 여호와의 등불이라 사람의 깊은 속을 살피느니라
20:27 The Lord keeps watch over the spirit of man, searching all the deepest parts of
the body.
20:27 The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.
20:28 왕은 인자와 진리로 스스로 보호하고 그 위도 인자함으로 말미암아 견고하니라
20:28 Mercy and good faith keep the king safe, and the seat of his power is based on upright
acts.
20:28 Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne supported by mercy.
20:29 젊은 자의 영화는 그 힘이요 늙은 자의 아름다운 것은 백발이니라
20:29 The glory of young men is their strength, and the honour of old men is their grey
hairs.

20:30 상하게 때리는 것이 악을 없이 하나니 매는 사람의 속에 깊이 들어가느니라
20:30 By the wounds of the rod evil is taken away, and blows make clean the deepest parts
