1:1 ÅÂÃʺÎÅÍ ÀÖ´Â »ý¸íÀÇ ¸»¾¸¿¡ °üÇÏ¿©´Â ¿ì¸®°¡ µéÀº ¹Ù¿ä ´«À¸·Î º» ¹Ù¿ä ÁÖ¸ñÇÏ°í ¿ì¸® ¼ÕÀ¸·Î ¸¸Áø ¹Ù¶ó
1:1 That which was from the first, which has come to our ears, and which we have seen with our eyes, looking on it and touching it with our hands, about the Word of life
1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word (o. logos) of life;

1:2 (And the life was made clear to us, and we have seen it and are witnessing to it and giving you word of that eternal life which was with the Father and was seen by us);
1:2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and show unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)

1:3 ¿ì¸®°¡ º¸°í µéÀº ¹Ù¸¦ ³ÊÈñ¿¡°Ôµµ ÀüÇÔÀº ³ÊÈñ·Î ¿ì¸®¿Í »ç±ÑÀÌ ÀÖ°Ô ÇÏ·Á ÇÔÀÌ´Ï ¿ì¸®ÀÇ »ç±ÑÀº ¾Æ¹öÁö¿Í ±× ¾Æµé ¿¹¼ö ±×¸®½ºµµ¿Í ÇÔ²² ÇÔÀ̶ó
1:3 We give you word of all we have seen and everything which has come to our ears, so that you may be united with us; and we are united with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ:
1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that all of you also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

1:4 ¿ì¸®°¡ ÀÌ°ÍÀ» ¾¸Àº ¿ì¸®ÀÇ ±â»ÝÀÌ Ã游ÄÉ ÇÏ·Á ÇÔÀ̷ζó
1:4 And we are writing these things to you so that our joy may be made complete.
1:4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

1:5 ¡Û ¿ì¸®°¡ Àú¿¡°Ô¼­ µè°í ³ÊÈñ¿¡°Ô ÀüÇÏ´Â ¼Ò½ÄÀÌ ÀÌ°ÍÀÌ´Ï °ð Çϳª´ÔÀº ºûÀ̽öó ±×¿¡°Ô´Â ¾îµÎ¿òÀÌ Á¶±Ýµµ ¾øÀ¸½Ã´Ï¶ó
1:5 This is the word which came to us from him and which we give to you, that God is light and in him there is nothing dark.
1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

1:6 ¸¸ÀÏ ¿ì¸®°¡ Çϳª´Ô°ú »ç±ÑÀÌ ÀÖ´Ù ÇÏ°í ¾îµÎ¿î °¡¿îµ¥ ÇàÇÏ¸é °ÅÁþ¸»À» ÇÏ°í Áø¸®¸¦ ÇàÄ¡ ¾Æ´ÏÇÔÀÌ°Å´Ï¿Í
1:6 If we say we are joined to him, and are walking still in the dark, our words are false and our acts are untrue:
1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

1:7 Àú°¡ ºû °¡¿îµ¥ °è½Å °Í °°ÀÌ ¿ì¸®µµ ºû °¡¿îµ¥ ÇàÇÏ¸é ¿ì¸®°¡ ¼­·Î »ç±ÑÀÌ ÀÖ°í ±× ¾Æµé ¿¹¼öÀÇ ÇÇ°¡ ¿ì¸®¸¦ ¸ðµç ÁË¿¡¼­ ±ú²ý°Ô ÇÏ½Ç °ÍÀÌ¿ä
1:7 But if we are walking in the light, as he is in the light, we are all united with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son makes us clean from all sin.
1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.

1:8 ¸¸ÀÏ ¿ì¸®°¡ ÁË ¾ø´Ù ÇÏ¸é ½º½º·Î ¼ÓÀÌ°í ¶Ç Áø¸®°¡ ¿ì¸® ¼Ó¿¡ ÀÖÁö ¾Æ´ÏÇÒ °ÍÀÌ¿ä
1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we are false to ourselves and there is nothing true in us.
1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

1:9 ¸¸ÀÏ ¿ì¸®°¡ ¿ì¸® Á˸¦ ÀÚ¹éÇϸé Àú´Â ¹Ì»Ú½Ã°í ÀǷοì»ç ¿ì¸® Á˸¦ »çÇÏ½Ã¸ç ¸ðµç ºÒÀÇ¿¡¼­ ¿ì¸®¸¦ ±ú²ýÄÉ ÇÏ½Ç °ÍÀÌ¿ä
1:9 If we say openly that we have done wrong, he is upright and true to his word, giving us forgiveness of sins and making us clean from all evil.
1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1:10 ¸¸ÀÏ ¿ì¸®°¡ ¹üÁËÇÏÁö ¾Æ´ÏÇÏ¿´´Ù Çϸé Çϳª´ÔÀ» °ÅÁþ¸»ÇÏ´Â ÀÚ·Î ¸¸µå´Â °ÍÀÌ´Ï ¶ÇÇÑ ±×ÀÇ ¸»¾¸ÀÌ ¿ì¸® ¼Ó¿¡ ÀÖÁö ¾Æ´ÏÇϴ϶ó
1:10 If we say that we have no sin, we make him false and his word is not in us.
1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word (o. logos) is not in us.

2:1 ³ªÀÇ ÀÚ³àµé¾Æ ³»°¡ ÀÌ°ÍÀ» ³ÊÈñ¿¡°Ô ¾¸Àº ³ÊÈñ·Î Á˸¦ ¹üÄ¡ ¾Ê°Ô ÇÏ·Á ÇÔÀÌ¶ó ¸¸ÀÏ ´©°¡ Á˸¦ ¹üÇÏ¸é ¾Æ¹öÁö ¾Õ¿¡¼­ ¿ì¸®¿¡°Ô ´ë¾ðÀÚ°¡ ÀÖÀ¸´Ï °ð ÀǷοì½Å ¿¹¼ö ±×¸®½ºµµ½Ã¶ó
2:1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may be without sin. And if any man is a sinner, we have a friend and helper with the Father, Jesus Christ, the upright one:
2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that all of you sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

2:2 Àú´Â ¿ì¸® Á˸¦ À§ÇÑ È­¸ñ Á¦¹°ÀÌ´Ï ¿ì¸®¸¸ À§ÇÒ »Ó ¾Æ´Ï¿ä ¿Â ¼¼»óÀÇ Á˸¦ À§ÇϽÉÀ̶ó
2:2 He is the offering for our sins; and not for ours only, but for all the world.
2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for our's only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

2:3 ¿ì¸®°¡ ±×ÀÇ °è¸íÀ» ÁöÅ°¸é ÀÌ·Î½á ¿ì¸®°¡ Àú¸¦ ¾Æ´Â ÁÙ·Î ¾Ë °ÍÀÌ¿ä
2:3 And by this we may be certain that we have knowledge of him, if we keep his laws.
2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

2:4 Àú¸¦ ¾Æ³ë¶ó ÇÏ°í ±×ÀÇ °è¸íÀ» ÁöÅ°Áö ¾Æ´ÏÇÏ´Â ÀÚ´Â °ÅÁþ¸»ÇÏ´Â ÀÚ¿ä Áø¸®°¡ ±× ¼Ó¿¡ ÀÖÁö ¾Æ´ÏÇϵÇ
2:4 The man who says, I have knowledge of him, and does not keep his laws, is false, and there is nothing true in him:
2:4 He that says, I know him, and keeps not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

2:5 ´©±¸µçÁö ±×ÀÇ ¸»¾¸À» ÁöÅ°´Â ÀÚ´Â Çϳª´ÔÀÇ »ç¶ûÀÌ ÂüÀ¸·Î ±× ¼Ó¿¡¼­ ¿ÂÀüÄÉ µÇ¾ú³ª´Ï ÀÌ·Î½á ¿ì¸®°¡ Àú ¾È¿¡ ÀÖ´Â ÁÙÀ» ¾Æ³ë¶ó
2:5 But in every man who keeps his word, the love of God is made complete. By this we may be certain that we are in him:
2:5 But whoso keeps his word, (o. logos) in him verily is the love (o. agape) of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

2:6 Àú ¾È¿¡ °ÅÇÑ´Ù ÇÏ´Â ÀÚ´Â ±×ÀÇ ÇàÇϽô ´ë·Î Àڱ⵵ ÇàÇÒÁö´Ï¶ó
2:6 He who says that he is living in him, will do as he did.
2:6 He that says he abides in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

2:7 »ç¶ûÇÏ´Â ÀÚµé¾Æ ³»°¡ »õ °è¸íÀ» ³ÊÈñ¿¡°Ô ¾²´Â °ÍÀÌ ¾Æ´Ï¶ó ³ÊÈñ°¡ óÀ½ºÎÅÍ °¡Áø ¿¾ °è¸íÀÌ´Ï ÀÌ ¿¾ °è¸íÀº ³ÊÈñÀÇ µéÀº ¹Ù ¸»¾¸ÀÌ°Å´Ï¿Í
2:7 My loved ones, I do not give you a new law, but an old law which you had from the first; this old law is the word which came to your ears.
2:7 Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which all of you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word (o. logos) which all of you have heard from the beginning.

2:8 ´Ù½Ã ³»°¡ ³ÊÈñ¿¡°Ô »õ °è¸íÀ» ¾²³ë´Ï Àú¿¡°Ô¿Í ³ÊÈñ¿¡°Ôµµ ÂüµÈ °ÍÀ̶ó ÀÌ´Â ¾îµÎ¿òÀÌ Áö³ª°¡°í ÂüºûÀÌ ¹ú½á ºñÃîÀ̴϶ó
2:8 Again, I give you a new law, which is true in him and in you; for the night is near its end and the true light is even now shining out.
2:8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shines.

2:9 ºû °¡¿îµ¥ ÀÖ´Ù ÇÏ¸ç ±× ÇüÁ¦¸¦ ¹Ì¿öÇÏ´Â ÀÚ´Â Áö±Ý±îÁö ¾îµÎ¿î °¡¿îµ¥ ÀÖ´Â ÀÚ¿ä
2:9 He who says that he is in the light, and has hate in his heart for his brother, is still in the dark.
2:9 He that says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness even until now.

2:10 ±×ÀÇ ÇüÁ¦¸¦ »ç¶ûÇÏ´Â ÀÚ´Â ºû °¡¿îµ¥ °ÅÇÏ¿© Àڱ⠼ӿ¡ °Å¸®³¦ÀÌ ¾øÀ¸³ª
2:10 He who has love for his brother is in the light, and there is no cause of error in him.
2:10 He that loves his brother abides in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.

2:11 ±×ÀÇ ÇüÁ¦¸¦ ¹Ì¿öÇÏ´Â ÀÚ´Â ¾îµÎ¿î °¡¿îµ¥ ÀÖ°í ¶Ç ¾îµÎ¿î °¡¿îµ¥ ÇàÇÏ¸ç °¥ °÷À» ¾ËÁö ¸øÇϳª´Ï ÀÌ´Â ¾îµÎ¿òÀÌ ±×ÀÇ ´«À» ¸Ö°Ô ÇÏ¿´À½À̴϶ó
2:11 But he who has hate for his brother is in the dark, walking in the dark with no knowledge of where he is going, unable to see because of the dark.
2:11 But he that hates his brother is in darkness, and walks in darkness, and knows not where he goes, because that darkness has blinded his eyes.

2:12 ¡Û ÀÚ³àµé¾Æ ³»°¡ ³ÊÈñ¿¡°Ô ¾²´Â °ÍÀº ³ÊÈñ ÁË°¡ ±×ÀÇ À̸§À¸·Î ¸»¹Ì¾Ï¾Æ »çÇÔÀ» ¾òÀ½ÀÌ¿ä
2:12 I am writing to you, my children, because you have forgiveness of sins through his name.
2:12 I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.

2:13 ¾Æºñµé¾Æ ³»°¡ ³ÊÈñ¿¡°Ô ¾²´Â °ÍÀº ³ÊÈñ°¡ ÅÂÃʺÎÅÍ °è½Å À̸¦ ¾ÍÀÌ¿ä û³âµé¾Æ ³»°¡ ³ÊÈñ¿¡°Ô ¾²´Â °ÍÀº ³ÊÈñ°¡ ¾ÇÇÑ ÀÚ¸¦ À̱â¾úÀ½À̴϶ó
2:13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you have knowledge of him who was from the first. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the Evil One. I have sent a letter to you, children, because you have knowledge of the Father.
2:13 I write unto you, fathers, because all of you have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because all of you have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because all of you have known the Father.

2:14 ¾ÆÀ̵é¾Æ ³»°¡ ³ÊÈñ¿¡°Ô ¾´ °ÍÀº ³ÊÈñ°¡ ¾Æ¹öÁö¸¦ ¾Ë¾ÒÀ½ÀÌ¿ä ¾Æºñµé¾Æ ³»°¡ ³ÊÈñ¿¡°Ô ¾´ °ÍÀº ³ÊÈñ°¡ ÅÂÃʺÎÅÍ °è½Å À̸¦ ¾Ë¾ÒÀ½ÀÌ¿ä û³âµé¾Æ ³»°¡ ³ÊÈñ¿¡°Ô ¾´ °ÍÀº ³ÊÈñ°¡ °­ÇÏ°í Çϳª´ÔÀÇ ¸»¾¸ÀÌ ³ÊÈñ ¼Ó¿¡ °ÅÇÏ½Ã°í ³ÊÈñ°¡ Èä¾ÇÇÑ ÀÚ¸¦ À̱â¾úÀ½À̶ó
2:14 I have sent a letter to you, fathers, because you have knowledge of him who was from the first. I have sent a letter to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God is in you, and because you have overcome the Evil One.
2:14 I have written unto you, fathers, because all of you have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because all of you are strong, and the word (o. logos) of God abides in you, and all of you have overcome the wicked one.

2:15 ÀÌ ¼¼»óÀ̳ª ¼¼»ó¿¡ ÀÖ´Â °ÍµéÀ» »ç¶ûÄ¡ ¸»¶ó ´©±¸µçÁö ¼¼»óÀ» »ç¶ûÇÏ¸é ¾Æ¹öÁöÀÇ »ç¶ûÀÌ ±× ¼Ó¿¡ ÀÖÁö ¾Æ´ÏÇÏ´Ï
2:15 Have no love for the world or for the things which are in the world. If any man has love for the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love (o. agape) of the Father is not in him.

2:16 ÀÌ´Â ¼¼»ó¿¡ ÀÖ´Â ¸ðµç °ÍÀÌ À°½ÅÀÇ Á¤¿å°ú ¾È¸ñÀÇ Á¤¿å°ú ÀÌ»ýÀÇ ÀÚ¶ûÀÌ´Ï ´Ù ¾Æ¹öÁö²²·Î ÁÀ¾Æ ¿Â °ÍÀÌ ¾Æ´Ï¿ä ¼¼»óÀ¸·Î ÁÀ¾Æ ¿Â °ÍÀ̶ó
2:16 Because everything in the world, the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father but of the world.
2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

2:17 ÀÌ ¼¼»óµµ ±× Á¤¿åµµ Áö³ª°¡µÇ ¿ÀÁ÷ Çϳª´ÔÀÇ ¶æÀ» ÇàÇÏ´Â ÀÌ´Â ¿µ¿øÈ÷ °ÅÇÏ´À´Ï¶ó
2:17 And the world and its desires is coming to an end: but he who does God's pleasure is living for ever.
2:17 And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he that does the will of God abides for ever.

2:18 ¡Û ¾ÆÀ̵é¾Æ ÀÌ°ÍÀÌ ¸¶Áö¸· ¶§¶ó Àû±×¸®½ºµµ°¡ À̸£°Ú´Ù ÇÔÀ» ³ÊÈñ°¡ µéÀº °Í°ú °°ÀÌ Áö±Ýµµ ¸¹Àº Àû±×¸®½ºµµ°¡ ÀϾÀ¸´Ï ÀÌ·¯¹Ç·Î ¿ì¸®°¡ ¸¶Áö¸· ¶§ÀÎ ÁÙ ¾Æ³ë¶ó
2:18 Little children, it is the last hour; and as you were given word that the Antichrist would come, so now a number of Antichrists have come to you; and by this we are certain that it is the last hour.
2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as all of you have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

2:19 ÀúÈñ°¡ ¿ì¸®¿¡°Ô¼­ ³ª°¬À¸³ª ¿ì¸®¿¡°Ô ¼ÓÇÏÁö ¾Æ´ÏÇÏ¿´³ª´Ï ¸¸ÀÏ ¿ì¸®¿¡°Ô ¼ÓÇÏ¿´´õ¸é ¿ì¸®¿Í ÇÔ²² °ÅÇÏ¿´À¸·Á´Ï¿Í ÀúÈñ°¡ ³ª°£ °ÍÀº ´Ù ¿ì¸®¿¡°Ô ¼ÓÇÏÁö ¾Æ´ÏÇÔÀ» ³ªÅ¸³»·Á ÇÔÀ̴϶ó
2:19 They went out from us but they were not of us; if they had been of us they would still be with us: but they went out from us so that it might be made clear that they were not of us.
2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

2:20 ³ÊÈñ´Â °Å·èÇϽŠÀÚ¿¡°Ô¼­ ±â¸§ ºÎÀ½À» ¹Þ°í ¸ðµç °ÍÀ» ¾Æ´À´Ï¶ó
2:20 And you have the Spirit from the Holy One and you all have knowledge.
2:20 But all of you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know all things.

2:21 ³»°¡ ³ÊÈñ¿¡°Ô ¾´ °ÍÀº ³ÊÈñ°¡ Áø¸®¸¦ ¾ËÁö ¸øÇÔÀ» ÀÎÇÔÀÌ ¾Æ´Ï¶ó ³ÊÈñ°¡ ¾ÍÀ» ÀÎÇÔÀÌ¿ä ¶Ç ¸ðµç °ÅÁþÀº Áø¸®¿¡¼­ ³ªÁö ¾ÊÀ½À» ÀÎÇÔÀ̴϶ó
2:21 I have not sent you this letter because you have no knowledge of what is true, but because you have knowledge, and because that which is false has nothing in common with that which is true.
2:21 I have not written unto you because all of you know not the truth, but because all of you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

2:22 °ÅÁþ¸»ÇÏ´Â ÀÚ°¡ ´©±¸´¢ ¿¹¼ö²²¼­ ±×¸®½ºµµÀ̽ÉÀ» ºÎÀÎÇÏ´Â ÀÚ°¡ ¾Æ´Ï´¢ ¾Æ¹öÁö¿Í ¾ÆµéÀ» ºÎÀÎÇÏ´Â ±×°¡ Àû±×¸®½ºµµ´Ï
2:22 Who is false but he who says that Jesus is not the Christ? He is the Antichrist who has no belief in the Father or the Son.
2:22 Who is a liar but he that denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denies the Father and the Son.

2:23 ¾ÆµéÀ» ºÎÀÎÇÏ´Â ÀÚ¿¡°Ô´Â ¶ÇÇÑ ¾Æ¹öÁö°¡ ¾øÀ¸µÇ ¾ÆµéÀ» ½ÃÀÎÇÏ´Â ÀÚ¿¡°Ô´Â ¾Æ¹öÁöµµ ÀÖ´À´Ï¶ó
2:23 He who has no belief in the Son has not the Father: he who makes clear his belief in the Son has the Father.
2:23 Whosoever denies the Son, the same has not the Father: he that acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

2:24 ³ÊÈñ´Â óÀ½ºÎÅÍ µéÀº °ÍÀ» ³ÊÈñ ¾È¿¡ °ÅÇÏ°Ô Ç϶ó óÀ½ºÎÅÍ µéÀº °ÍÀÌ ³ÊÈñ ¾È¿¡ °ÅÇÏ¸é ³ÊÈñ°¡ ¾ÆµéÀÇ ¾È°ú ¾Æ¹öÁöÀÇ ¾È¿¡ °ÅÇϸ®¶ó
2:24 But as for you, keep in your hearts the things which were made clear to you from the first. If you keep these things in your hearts you will be kept in the Father and the Son.
2:24 Let that therefore abide in you, which all of you have heard from the beginning. If that which all of you have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, all of you also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.

2:25 ±×°¡ ¿ì¸®¿¡°Ô ¾à¼ÓÇϽŠ¾à¼ÓÀÌ ÀÌ°ÍÀÌ´Ï °ð ¿µ¿øÇÑ »ý¸íÀ̴϶ó
2:25 And this is the hope which he gave you, even eternal life.
2:25 And this is the promise that he has promised us, even eternal life.

2:26 ³ÊÈñ¸¦ ¹ÌȤÄÉ ÇÏ´Â Àڵ鿡 °üÇÏ¿© ³»°¡ ÀÌ°ÍÀ» ³ÊÈñ¿¡°Ô ½è³ë¶ó
2:26 I am writing these things to you about those whose purpose is that you may be turned out of the true way.
2:26 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.

2:27 As for you, the Spirit which he gave you is still in you, and you have no need of any teacher; but as his Spirit gives you teaching about all things, and is true and not false, so keep your hearts in him, through the teaching which he has given you.
2:27 But the anointing which all of you have received of him abides in you, and all of you need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teaches you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it has taught you, all of you shall abide in him.

2:28 And now, my children, keep your hearts in him; so that at his revelation, we may have no fear or shame before him at his coming.
2:28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

3:1 See what great love the Father has given us in naming us the children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not see who we are, because it did not see who he was.
3:1 Behold, what manner of love (o. agape) the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knows us not, because it knew him not.

3:2 My loved ones, now we are children of God, and at present it is not clear what we are to be. We are certain that at his revelation we will be like him; for we will see him as he is.
3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it does not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

3:4 Everyone who is a sinner goes against the law, for sin is going against the law.
3:4 Whosoever commits sin trangresses also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

3:5 And you have knowledge that he came to take away sin: and in him there is no sin.
3:5 And all of you know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.

3:6 Anyone who is in him does no sin; anyone who is a sinner has not seen him and has no knowledge of him.
3:6 Whosoever abides in him sins not: whosoever sins has not seen him, neither known him.

3:8 The sinner is a child of the Evil One; for the Evil One has been a sinner from the first. And the Son of God was seen on earth so that he might put an end to the works of the Evil One.
3:8 He that commits sin is of the devil; for the devil sins from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

3:9 Anyone who is a child of God does no sin, because he still has God's seed in him; he is not able to be a sinner, because God is his Father.
3:9 Whosoever is born of God does not commit sin; for his seed remains in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

3:10 In this way it is clear who are the children of God and who are the children of the Evil One; anyone who does not do righteousness or who has no love for his brother, is not a child of God.
3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever does not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loves not his brother.

3:12 Not being of the Evil One like Cain, who put his brother to death. And why did he put him to death? Because his works were evil and his brother's works were good.
3:12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.

3:14 We are conscious that we have come out of death into life because of our love for the brothers. He who has no love is still in death.
3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loves not his brother abides in death.

3:15 Anyone who has hate for his brother is a taker of life, and you may be certain that no taker of life has eternal life in him.
3:15 Whosoever hates his brother is a murderer: and all of you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

3:17 But whoso has this world's good, and sees his brother have need, and shuts up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwells the love (o. agape) of God in him?

3:19 In this way we may be certain that we are true, and may give our heart comfort before him,
3:19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.

3:20 When our heart says that we have done wrong; because God is greater than our heart, and has knowledge of all things.
3:20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.

3:21 My loved ones, if our heart does not say that we have done wrong, we have no fear before him;
3:21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.

3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.

3:24 He who keeps his laws is in God and God is in him. And the Spirit which he gave us is our witness that he is in us.

4:1 My loved ones, do not put your faith in every spirit, but put them to the test, to see if they are from God: because a great number of false prophets have gone out into the world.
4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, (o. pneuma) but try the spirits (o. pneuma) whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

4:3 And every spirit which does not say this is not from God: this is the spirit of Antichrist, of which you have had word; and it is in the world even now.
4:3 And every spirit (o. pneuma) that confesses not that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof all of you have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

4:6 We are of God: he who has the knowledge of God gives ear to us; he who is not of God does not give ear to us. By this we may see which is the true spirit, and which is the spirit of error.
4:6 We are of God: he that knows God hears us; he that is not of God hears not us. Hereby know we the spirit (o. pneuma) of truth, and the spirit (o. pneuma) of error.

4:9 And the love of God was made clear to us when he sent his only Son into the world so that we might have life through him.

5:16 If a man sees his brother doing a sin which is not bad enough for death, let him make a prayer to God, and God will give life to him whose sin was not bad enough for death. There is a sin whose punishment is death: I do not say that he may make such a request then.

5:18 We are certain that one who is a child of God will do no sin, but the Son of God keeps him so that he is not touched by the Evil One.

5:20 And we are certain that the Son of God has come, and has given us a clear vision, so that we may see him who is true, and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
