1:1 바울과 실루아노와 디모데는 하나님 아버지와 주 예수 그리스도 안에 있는
데살로니가인의 교회에 편지하노니 은혜와 평강이 너희에게 있을지어다
1:1 Paul and Silvanus and Timothy, to the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace.
1:1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians
which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you,
and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1:2 ○ 우리가 너희 무리를 인하여 항상 하나님께 감사하고 기도할 때에 너희를
말함은
1:2 We give praise to God at all times for you, keeping you in memory in our prayers;
1:2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our
prayers;
1:3 너희의 믿음의 역사와 사랑의 수고와 우리 주 예수 그리스도에 대한 소망의
인내를 우리 하나님 아버지 앞에서 쉬지 않고 기억함이니
1:3 Having ever in mind your work of faith and acts of love and the strength of your
hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father;
1:3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, (o.
agape) and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and
our Father;
1:4 하나님의 사랑하심을 받은 형제들아 너희를 택하심을 아노라
1:4 Being conscious, my brothers, dear to God, that you have been marked out by God's
purpose;
1:4 Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.
1:5 이는 우리 복음이 말로만 너희에게 이른 것이 아니라 오직 능력과 성령과
큰 확신으로 된 것이니 우리가 너희 가운데서 너희를 위하여 어떠한 사람이 된 것은
너희 아는 바와 같으니라
1:5 Because our good news came to you, not in word only, but in power, and in the Holy
Spirit, so that you were completely certain of it; even as you saw what our behaviour
to you was like from our love to you.
1:5 For our gospel came not unto you in word (o. logos) only, but also in
power, and in the Holy Spirit, (o. pneuma) and in much assurance; as all of
you know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.
1:6 또 너희는 많은 환난 가운데서 성령의 기쁨으로 도를 받아 우리와 주를 본받은
자가 되었으니
1:6 And you took us and the Lord as your example, after the word had come to you in
much trouble, with joy in the Holy Spirit;
1:6 And all of you became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received
the word (o. logos) in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit. (o. pneuma)
1:7 그러므로 너희가 마게도냐와 아가야 모든 믿는 자의 본이 되었는지라
1:7 So that you became an example to all those who have faith in Christ in Macedonia
and Achaia.
1:7 So that all of you were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.
1:8 주의 말씀이 너희에게로부터 마게도냐와 아가야에만 들릴 뿐 아니라 하나님을
향하는 너희 믿음의 소문이 각처에 퍼지므로 우리는 아무 말도 할 것이 없노라
1:8 For not only was the word of the Lord sounding out from you in Macedonia and Achaia,
but in every place your faith in God is made clear; so that we have no need to say
anything.
1:8 For from you sounded out the word (o. logos) of the Lord not only in
Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith toward God is spread
abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.
1:9 저희가 우리에 대하여 스스로 고하기를 우리가 어떻게 너희 가운데 들어간
것과 너희가 어떻게 우상을 버리고 하나님께로 돌아와서 사시고 참되신 하나님을
섬기며
1:9 For they themselves give the news of how we came among you; and how you were turned
from images to God, to the worship of a true and living God,
1:9 For they themselves show of us what manner of entering in we had unto
you, and how all of you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;
1:10 또 죽은 자들 가운데서 다시 살리신 그의 아들이 하늘로부터 강림하심을
기다린다고 말하니 이는 장래 노하심에서 우리를 건지시는 예수시니라
1:10 Waiting for his Son from heaven, who came back from the dead, even Jesus, our Saviour
from the wrath to come.
1:10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even
Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.
2:1 형제들아 우리가 너희 가운데 들어감이 헛되지 않은 줄을 너희가 친히 아나니
2:1 For you yourselves, brothers, are conscious that our coming among you was not without
effect:
2:1 For yourselves, brethren, know our entrance in unto you, that it was
not in vain:
2:2 너희 아는 바와 같이 우리가 먼저 빌립보에서 고난과 능욕을 당하였으나 우리
하나님을 힘입어 많은 싸움 중에 하나님의 복음을 너희에게 말하였노라
2:2 But after we had first undergone much pain and been cruelly attacked as you saw,
at Philippi, by the help of God we gave you the good news without fear, though everything
was against us.
2:2 But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully pleaded,
as all of you know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the
gospel of God with much contention.
2:3 우리의 권면은 간사에서나 부정에서 난 것도 아니요 궤계에 있는 것도 아니라
2:3 For our witness does not come from error or from an unclean heart or from deceit:
2:3 For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile:
2:4 오직 하나님의 옳게 여기심을 입어 복음 전할 부탁을 받았으니 우리가 이와
같이 말함은 사람을 기쁘게 하려 함이 아니요 오직 우리 마음을 감찰하시는 하나님을
기쁘시게 하려 함이라
2:4 But even as the good news was given to us by the approval of God, so we give it
out; not as pleasing men, but God by whom our hearts are tested.
2:4 But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even
so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which tries our hearts.
2:5 너희도 알거니와 우리가 아무 때에도 아첨의 말이나 탐심의 탈을 쓰지 아니한
것을 하나님이 증거하시느니라
2:5 For it is common knowledge among you that we never made use of smooth-sounding false
words, and God is witness that at no time were we secretly desiring profit for ourselves,
2:5 For neither at any time used we flattering words, (o. logos) as all of
you know, nor a coat of covetousness; God is witness:
2:6 우리가 그리스도의 사도로 능히 존중할 터이나 그러나 너희에게든지 다른
이에게든지 사람에게는 영광을 구치 아니하고
2:6 Or looking for glory from men, from you or from others, when we might have made
ourselves a care to you as Apostles of Christ.
2:6 Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we
might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.
2:7 오직 우리가 너희 가운데서 유순한 자 되어 유모가 자기 자녀를 기름과 같이
하였으니
2:7 But we were gentle among you, like a woman caring for her little ones:
2:7 But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherishes her children:
2:8 우리가 이같이 너희를 사모하여 하나님의 복음으로만 아니라 우리 목숨까지
너희에게 주기를 즐겨함은 너희가 우리의 사랑하는 자 됨이니라
2:8 Even so, being full of loving desire for you, we took delight in giving you not
only God's good news, but even our lives, because you were dear to us.
2:8 So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted
unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because all of
you were dear unto us.
2:9 형제들아 우리의 수고와 애쓴 것을 너희가 기억하리니 너희 아무에게도 누를
끼치지 아니하려고 밤과 낮으로 일하면서 너희에게 하나님의 복음을 전파하였노라
2:9 For you have the memory, my brothers, of our trouble and care; how, working night
and day, so that we might not be a trouble to any of you, we gave you the good news
of God.
2:9 For all of you remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring
night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached
unto you the gospel of God.
2:10 우리가 너희 믿는 자들을 향하여 어떻게 거룩하고 옳고 흠 없이 행한 것에
대하여 너희가 증인이요 하나님도 그러하시도다
2:10 You are witnesses, with God, how holy and upright and free from all evil was our
way of life among you who have faith;
2:10 All of you are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably
we behaved ourselves among you that believe:
2:11 너희도 아는 바와 같이 우리가 너희 각 사람에게 아비가 자기 자녀에게 하듯
권면하고 위로하고 경계하노니
2:11 Even as you saw how, like a father with his children, we were teaching and comforting
you all, and giving witness,
2:11 As all of you know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one
of you, as a father does his children,
2:12 이는 너희를 부르사 자기 나라와 영광에 이르게 하시는 하나님께 합당히
행하게 하려 함이니라
2:12 So that your lives might be pleasing to God, who has given you a part in his kingdom
and his glory.
2:12 That all of you would walk worthy of God, who has called you unto his
kingdom and glory.
2:13 ○ 이러므로 우리가 하나님께 쉬지 않고 감사함은 너희가 우리에게 들은 바
하나님의 말씀을 받을 때에 사람의 말로 아니하고 하나님의 말씀으로 받음이니 진실로
그러하다 이 말씀이 또한 너희 믿는 자 속에서 역사하느니라
2:13 And for this cause we still give praise to God, that, when the word came to your
ears through us, you took it, not as the word of man, but, as it truly is, the word
of God, which has living power in you who have faith.
2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when all
of you received the word (o. logos) of God which all of you heard of us, all
of you received it not as the word (o. logos) of men, but as it is in truth,
the word (o. logos) of God, which effectually works also in you that believe.
2:14 형제들아 너희가 그리스도 예수 안에서 유대에 있는 하나님의 교회들을 본받은
자 되었으니 저희가 유대인들에게 고난을 받음과 같이 너희도 너희 나라 사람들에게
동일한 것을 받았느니라
2:14 For you, my brothers, took as your examples the churches of God which are in Judaea
in Christ Jesus; because you underwent the same things from your countrymen as they
did from the Jews;
2:14 For all of you, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which
in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for all of you also have suffered like things
of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews:
2:15 유대인은 주 예수와 선지자들을 죽이고 우리를 쫓아내고 하나님을 기쁘시게
아니하고 모든 사람에게 대적이 되어
2:15 Who put to death the Lord Jesus and the prophets, violently driving us out; who
are unpleasing to God and against all men;
2:15 Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted
us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men:
2:16 우리가 이방인에게 말하여 구원 얻게 함을 저희가 금하여 자기 죄를 항상
채우매 노하심이 끝까지 저희에게 임하였느니라
2:16 Who, to make the measure of their sins complete, kept us from giving the word of
salvation to the Gentiles: but the wrath of God is about to come on them in the
fullest degree.
2:16 Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to
fill up their sins always: for the wrath has come upon them to the uttermost.
2:17 ○ 형제들아 우리가 잠시 너희를 떠난 것은 얼굴이요 마음은 아니니 너희
얼굴 보기를 열정으로 더욱 힘썼노라
2:17 But we, my brothers, being away from you for a short time, in body but not in heart,
had all the more desire to see your face;
2:17 But we, brethren, being taken from you for a short time in presence,
not in heart, endeavoured the more abundantly to see your face with great desire.
2:18 그러므로 나 바울은 한 번 두 번 너희에게 가고자 하였으나 사단이 우리를
막았도다
2:18 For which reason we made attempts to come to you, even I, Paul, once and again;
but Satan kept us from coming.
2:18 Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again;
but Satan hindered us.
2:19 우리의 소망이나 기쁨이나 자랑의 면류관이 무엇이냐 그의 강림하실 때 우리
주 예수 앞에 너희가 아니냐
2:19 For what is our hope or joy or crown of glory? Are not even you, before our Lord
Jesus, at his coming?
2:19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even all
of you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?
2:20 너희는 우리의 영광이요 기쁨이니라
2:20 For you are our glory and our joy.
2:20 For all of you are our glory and joy.
3:1 이러므로 우리가 참다 못하여 우리만 아덴에 머물기를 좋게 여겨
3:1 At last our desire to have news of you was so strong that, while we ourselves were
waiting at Athens,
3:1 Wherefore when we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to be left
at Athens alone;
3:2 우리 형제 곧 그리스도 복음의 하나님의 일군인 디모데를 보내노니 이는 너희를
굳게 하고 너희 믿음에 대하여 위로함으로
3:2 We sent Timothy, our brother and God's servant in the good news of Christ, to give
you strength and comfort in your faith;
3:2 And sent Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellow
labourer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning
your faith:
3:3 누구든지 이 여러 환난 중에 요동치 않게 하려 함이라 우리로 이것을 당하게
세우신 줄을 너희가 친히 알리라
3:3 So that no man might be moved by these troubles; because you see that these things
are part of God's purpose for us.
3:3 That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know
that we are appointed thereunto.
3:4 우리가 너희와 함께 있을 때에 장차 받을 환난을 너희에게 미리 말하였더니
과연 그렇게 된 것을 너희가 아느니라
3:4 And when we were with you, we said to you that trouble was before us; and so it
came about, as you see.
3:4 For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should
suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and all of you know.
3:5 이러므로 나도 참다 못하여 너희 믿음을 알기 위하여 보내었노니 이는 혹
시험하는 자가 너희를 시험하여 우리 수고를 헛되게 할까 함일러니
3:5 For this reason, when I was no longer able to keep quiet, I sent to get news of
your faith, fearing that you might be tested by the Evil One and that our work might
come to nothing.
3:5 For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith,
lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain.
3:6 지금은 디모데가 너희에게로부터 와서 너희 믿음과 사랑의 기쁜 소식을 우리에게
전하고 또 너희가 항상 우리를 잘 생각하여 우리가 너희를 간절히 보고자 함과 같이
너희도 우리를 간절히 보고자 한다 하니
3:6 But now that Timothy has come to us from you, and has given us good news of your
faith and love, and that you have happy memories of us, desiring greatly to see
us, even as we do to see you;
3:6 But now when Timotheus came from you unto us, and brought us good tidings
of your faith and love, (o. agape) and that all of you have good remembrance
of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you:
3:7 이러므로 형제들아 우리가 모든 궁핍과 환란 가운데서 너희 믿음으로 말미암아
너희에게 위로를 받았노라
3:7 For this cause, brothers, in all our trouble and grief we were comforted about you
because of your faith;
3:7 Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our affliction
and distress by your faith:
3:8 그러므로 너희가 주 안에 굳게 선즉 우리가 이제는 살리라
3:8 For it is life to us if you keep your faith in the Lord unchanged.
3:8 For now we live, if all of you stand fast in the Lord.
3:9 우리가 우리 하나님 앞에서 너희를 인하여 모든 기쁨으로 기뻐하니 너희를
위하여 능히 어떠한 감사함으로 하나님께 보답할꼬
3:9 For how great is the praise which we give to God for you, and how great the joy
with which we are glad because of you before our God;
3:9 For what thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy wherewith
we joy for your sakes before our God;
3:10 주야로 심히 간구함은 너희 얼굴을 보고 너희 믿음의 부족함을 온전케 하려
함이라
3:10 Night and day requesting God again and again that we may see your face and make
your faith complete.
3:10 Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might
perfect that which is lacking in your faith?
3:11 ○ 하나님 우리 아버지와 우리 주 예수는 우리 길을 너희에게로 직행하게
하옵시며
3:11 Now may our God and Father himself and our Lord Jesus make a way for us to come
to you;
3:11 Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our
way unto you.
3:12 또 주께서 우리가 너희를 사랑함과 같이 너희도 피차간과 모든 사람에 대한
사랑이 더욱 많아 넘치게 하사
3:12 And the Lord give you increase of love in fullest measure to one another and to
all men, even as our love to you;
3:12 And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love (o. agape) one
toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:
3:13 너희 마음을 굳게 하시고 우리 주 예수께서 그의 모든 성도와 함께 강림하실
때에 하나님 우리 아버지 앞에서 거룩함에 흠이 없게 하시기를 원하노라
3:13 So that your hearts may be strong and free from all sin before our God and Father,
at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.
3:13 To the end he may establish your hearts unblameable in holiness before
God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.
4:1 종말로 형제들아 우리가 주 예수 안에서 너희에게 구하고 권면하노니 너희가
마땅히 어떻게 행하며 하나님께 기쁘시게 할 것을 우리에게 받았으니 곧 너희 행하는
바라 더욱 많이 힘쓰라
4:1 And last of all, the prayer which we make to you from our heart and in the name
of the Lord Jesus, is this: that as we made clear to you what sort of behaviour
is pleasing to God, as in fact you are doing now, so you will go on in these ways,
but more and more.
4:1 Furthermore then we plead to you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord
Jesus, that as all of you have received of us how all of you ought to walk and
to please God, so all of you would abound more and more.
4:2 우리가 주 예수로 말미암아 너희에게 무슨 명령으로 준 것을 너희가 아느니라
4:2 Because you have in mind the orders we gave you through the Lord Jesus.
4:2 For all of you know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.
4:3 하나님의 뜻은 이것이니 너희의 거룩함이라 곧 음란을 버리고
4:3 For the purpose of God for you is this: that you may be holy, and may keep yourselves
from the desires of the flesh;
4:3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that all of you
should abstain from fornication:
4:4 각각 거룩함과 존귀함으로 자기의 아내 취할 줄을 알고
4:4 So that every one of you may keep his body holy and in honour;
4:4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification
and honour;
4:5 하나님을 모르는 이방인과 같이 색욕을 좇지 말고
4:5 Not in the passion of evil desires, like the Gentiles, who have no knowledge of
God;
4:5 Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:
4:6 이 일에 분수를 넘어서 형제를 해하지 말라 이는 우리가 너희에게 미리 말하고
증거한 것과 같이 이 모든 일에 주께서 신원하여 주심이니라
4:6 And that no man may make attempts to get the better of his brother in business:
for the Lord is the judge in all these things, as we said to you before and gave
witness.
4:6 That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because
that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and
testified.
4:7 하나님이 우리를 부르심은 부정케 하심이 아니요 거룩케 하심이니
4:7 Because it is God's purpose that our way of life may be not unclean but holy.
4:7 For God has not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.
4:8 그러므로 저버리는 자는 사람을 저버림이 아니요 너희에게 그의 성령을 주신
하나님을 저버림이니라
4:8 Whoever, then, goes against this word, goes against not man but God, who gives his
Holy Spirit to you.
4:8 He therefore that despises, despises not man, but God, who has also given
unto us his holy Spirit. (o. pneuma)
4:9 ○ 형제 사랑에 관하여는 너희에게 쓸 것이 없음은 너희가 친히 하나님의
가르치심을 받아 서로 사랑함이라
4:9 But about loving the brothers, there is no need for me to say anything to you in
this letter: for you have the teaching of God that love for one another is right
and necessary;
4:9 But as concerning brotherly love all of you need not that I write unto
you: for all of you yourselves are taught of God to love one another.
4:10 너희가 온 마게도냐 모든 형제를 대하여 과연 이것을 행하도다 형제들아
권하노니 더 많이 하고
4:10 And, truly, you are lovers of all the brothers in Macedonia; but it is our desire
that your love may be increased still more;
4:10 And indeed all of you do it toward all the brethren which are in all
Macedonia: but we plead to you, brethren, that all of you increase more and
more;
4:11 또 너희에게 명한 것 같이 종용하여 자기 일을 하고 너희 손으로 일하기를
힘쓰라
4:11 And that you may take pride in being quiet and doing your business, working with
your hands as we gave you orders;
4:11 And that all of you study to be quiet, and to do your own business,
and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;
4:12 이는 외인을 대하여 단정히 행하고 또한 아무 궁핍함이 없게 하려 함이라
4:12 That you may be respected by those who are outside, and may have need of nothing.
4:12 That all of you may walk honestly toward them that are without, and
that all of you may have lack of nothing.
4:13 ○ 형제들아 자는 자들에 관하여는 너희가 알지 못함을 우리가 원치 아니하노니
이는 소망 없는 다른 이와 같이 슬퍼하지 않게 하려 함이라
4:13 But it is our desire, brothers, that you may be certain about those who are sleeping;
so that you may have no need for sorrow, as others have who are without hope.
4:13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which
are asleep, that all of you sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
4:14 우리가 예수의 죽었다가 다시 사심을 믿을진대 이와 같이 예수 안에서 자는
자들도 하나님이 저와 함께 데리고 오시리라
4:14 For if we have faith that Jesus underwent death and came back again, even so those
who are sleeping will come again with him by God's power.
4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also
which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
4:15 우리가 주의 말씀으로 너희에게 이것을 말하노니 주 강림하실 때까지 우리
살아 남아 있는 자도 자는 자보다 결단코 앞서지 못하리라
4:15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are still living at
the coming of the Lord, will not go before those who are sleeping.
4:15 For this we say unto you by the word (o. logos) of the Lord, that we
which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them
which are asleep.
4:16 주께서 호령과 천사장의 소리와 하나님의 나팔로 친히 하늘로 좇아 강림하시리니
그리스도 안에서 죽은 자들이 먼저 일어나고
4:16 Because the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a word of authority, with
the voice of the chief angel, with the sound of a horn: and the dead in Christ will
come to life first;
4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the
voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall
rise first:
4:17 그 후에 우리 살아 남은 자도 저희와 함께 구름 속으로 끌어 올려 공중에서
주를 영접하게 하시리니 그리하여 우리가 항상 주와 함께 있으리라
4:17 Then we who are still living will be taken up together with them into the clouds
to see the Lord in the air: and so will we be for ever with the Lord.
4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with
them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with
the Lord.
4:18 그러므로 이 여러 말로 서로 위로하라
4:18 So then, give comfort to one another with these words.
4:18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words. (o. logos)
5:1 형제들아 때와 시기에 관하여는 너희에게 쓸 것이 없음은
5:1 But about the times and their order, my brothers, there is no need for me to say
anything to you.
5:1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, all of you have no need that
I write unto you.
5:2 주의 날이 밤에 도적 같이 이를 줄을 너희 자신이 자세히 앎이라
5:2 For you yourselves have the knowledge that the day of the Lord will come like a
thief in the night.
5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a
thief in the night.
5:3 저희가 평안하다, 안전하다 할 그 때에 잉태된 여자에게 해산 고통이 이름과
같이 멸망이 홀연히 저희에게 이르리니 결단코 피하지 못하리라
5:3 When they say, There is peace and no danger, then sudden destruction will come on
them, as birth-pains on a woman with child; and they will not be able to get away
from it.
5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction comes
upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
5:4 형제들아 너희는 어두움에 있지 아니하매 그 날이 도적 같이 너희에게 임하지
못하리니
5:4 But you, my brothers, are not in the dark, for that day to overtake you like a thief:
5:4 But all of you, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake
you as a thief.
5:5 너희는 다 빛의 아들이요 낮의 아들이라 우리가 밤이나 어두움에 속하지 아니하나니
5:5 For you are all sons of light and of the day: we are not of the night or of the
dark.
5:5 All of you are all the children of light, and the children of the day:
we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
5:6 그러므로 우리는 다른 이들과 같이 자지 말고 오직 깨어 근신할지라
5:6 So then, let us not take our rest as the others do, but let us be self-controlled
and awake.
5:6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
5:7 자는 자들은 밤에 자고 취하는 자들은 밤에 취하되
5:7 For those who are sleeping do so in the night; and those who are the worse for drink
are so in the night;
5:7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are
drunken in the night.
5:8 우리는 낮에 속하였으니 근신하여 믿음과 사랑의 흉배를 붙이고 구원의 소망의
투구를 쓰자
5:8 But let us, who are of the day, be serious, putting on the breastplate of faith
and love, and on our heads, the hope of salvation.
5:8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate
of faith and love; (o. agape) and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
5:9 하나님이 우리를 세우심은 노하심에 이르게 하심이 아니요 오직 우리 주 예수
그리스도로 말미암아 구원을 얻게 하신 것이라
5:9 For God's purpose for us is not wrath, but salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
5:9 For God has not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our
Lord Jesus Christ,
5:10 예수께서 우리를 위하여 죽으사 우리로 하여금 깨든지 자든지 자기와 함께
살게 하려 하셨느니라
5:10 Who was put to death for us, so that, awake or sleeping, we may have a part in his
life.
5:10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together
with him.
5:11 그러므로 피차 권면하고 피차 덕을 세우기를 너희가 하는 것 같이 하라
5:11 So then, go on comforting and building up one another, as you have been doing.
5:11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as
also all of you do.
5:12 ○ 형제들아 우리가 너희에게 구하노니 너희 가운데서 수고하고 주 안에서
너희를 다스리며 권하는 자들을 너희가 알고
5:12 But we make this request to you, my brothers: give attention to those who are working
among you, who are over you in the Lord to keep order among you;
5:12 And we plead to you, brethren, to know them which labour among you,
and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;
5:13 저의 역사로 말미암아 사랑 안에서 가장 귀히 여기며 너희끼리 화목하라
5:13 And have a high opinion of them in love because of their work. Be at peace among
yourselves.
5:13 And to esteem them very highly in love (o. agape) for their work's sake.
And be at peace among yourselves.
5:14 또 형제들아 너희를 권면하노니 규모 없는 자들을 권계하며 마음이 약한
자들을 안위하고 힘이 없는 자들을 붙들어 주며 모든 사람을 대하여 오래 참으라
5:14 And our desire is that you will keep control over those whose lives are not well
ordered, giving comfort to the feeble-hearted, supporting those with little strength,
and putting up with much from all.
5:14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the
feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.
5:15 삼가 누가 누구에게든지 악으로 악을 갚지 말게 하고 오직 피차 대하든지
모든 사람을 대하든지 항상 선을 좇으라
5:15 Let no one give evil for evil; but ever go after what is good, for one another and
for all.
5:15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that
which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
5:16 항상 기뻐하라
5:16 Have joy at all times.
5:16 Rejoice evermore.
5:17 쉬지 말고 기도하라
5:17 Keep on with your prayers.
5:17 Pray without ceasing.
5:18 범사에 감사하라 이는 그리스도 예수 안에서 너희를 향하신 하나님의 뜻이니라
5:18 In everything give praise: for this is the purpose of God in Christ Jesus for you.
5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus
concerning you.
5:19 성령을 소멸치 말며
5:19 Do not put out the light of the Spirit;
5:19 Quench not the Spirit. (o. pneuma)
5:20 예언을 멸시치 말고
5:20 Do not make little of the words of the prophets;
5:20 Despise not prophesyings.
5:21 범사에 헤아려 좋은 것을 취하고
5:21 Let all things be tested; keep to what is good;
5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
5:22 악은 모든 모양이라도 버리라
5:22 Keep from every form of evil.
5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
5:23 ○ 평강의 하나님이 친히 너희로 온전히 거룩하게 하시고 또 너희 온 영과
혼과 몸이 우리 주 예수 그리스도 강림하실 때에 흠 없게 보전되기를 원하노라
5:23 And may the God of peace himself make you holy in every way; and may your spirit
and soul and body be free from all sin at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole
spirit (o. pneuma) and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming
of our Lord Jesus Christ.
5:24 너희를 부르시는 이는 미쁘시니 그가 또한 이루시리라
5:24 God, by whom you have been marked out in his purpose, is unchanging and will make
it complete.
5:24 Faithful is he that calls you, who also will do it.
5:25 ○ 형제들아 우리를 위하여 기도하라
5:25 Brothers, keep us in mind in your prayers.
5:25 Brethren, pray for us.
5:26 ○ 거룩하게 입맞춤으로 모든 형제에게 문안하라
5:26 Give all the brothers a holy kiss.
5:26 Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.
5:27 내가 주를 힘입어 너희를 명하노니 모든 형제에게 이 편지를 읽어 들리라
5:27 I give orders in the name of the Lord that all the brothers are to be present at
the reading of this letter.
5:27 I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy
brethren.
5:28 ○ 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 은혜가 너희에게 있을지어다
5:28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

1:1 바울과 실루아노와 디모데는 하나님 우리 아버지와 주 예수 그리스도 안에
있는 데살로니가인의 교회에 편지하노니
1:1 Paul and Silvanus and Timothy, to the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ:
1:1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timothy, unto the church of the Thessalonians
in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ;
1:2 하나님 아버지와 주 예수 그리스도로부터 은혜와 평강이 너희에게 있을지어다
1:2 Grace to you and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1:2 Grace unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1:3 ○ 형제들아 우리가 너희를 위하여 항상 하나님께 감사할지니 이것이 당연함은
너희 믿음이 더욱 자라고 너희가 다 각기 서로 사랑함이 풍성함이며
1:3 It is right for us to give praise to God at all times for you, brothers, because
of the great increase of your faith, and the wealth of your love for one another;
1:3 We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because
that your faith grows exceedingly, and the love (o. agape) of every one of you
all toward each other abounds;
1:4 그리고 너희의 참는 모든 핍박과 환난 중에서 너희 인내와 믿음을 인하여
하나님의 여러 교회에서 우리가 친히 자랑함이라
1:4 So that we ourselves take pride in you in the churches of God for your untroubled
mind and your faith in all the troubles and sorrows which you are going through;
1:4 So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience
and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that all of you endure:
1:5 이는 하나님의 공의로운 심판의 표요 너희로 하여금 하나님의 나라에 합당한
자로 여기심을 얻게 하려 함이니 그 나라를 위하여 너희가 또한 고난을 받느리라
1:5 Which is a clear sign of the decision which God in his righteousness has made; to
give you a part in his kingdom, for which you have undergone this pain;
1:5 Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that all
of you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which all of you also
suffer:
1:6 너희로 환난 받게 하는 자들에게는 환난으로 갚으시고
1:6 For it is an act of righteousness on God's part to give trouble as their reward
to those who are troubling you,
1:6 Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to
them that trouble you;
1:7 환난 받는 너희에게는 우리와 함께 안식으로 갚으시는 것이 하나님의 공의시니
주 예수께서 저의 능력의 천사들과 함께 하늘로부터 불꽃 중에 나타나실 때에
1:7 And to you who are troubled, rest with us, when the Lord Jesus comes from heaven
with the angels of his power in flames of fire,
1:7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be
revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
1:8 하나님을 모르는 자들과 우리 주 예수의 복음을 복종치 않는 자들에게 형벌을
주시리니
1:8 To give punishment to those who have no knowledge of God, and to those who do not
give ear to the good news of our Lord Jesus:
1:8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that
obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
1:9 이런 자들이 주의 얼굴과 그의 힘의 영광을 떠나 영원한 멸망의 형벌을 받으리로다
1:9 Whose reward will be eternal destruction from the face of the Lord and from the
glory of his strength,
1:9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence
of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
1:10 그날에 강림하사 그의 성도들에게서 영광을 얻으시고 모든 믿는 자에게서
기이히 여김을 얻으시리라{우리의 증거가 너희에게 믿어졌음이라}
1:10 At his coming, when he will have glory in his saints, and will be a cause of wonder
in all those who had faith (because our witness among you had effect) in that day.
1:10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired
in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that
day.
1:11 이러므로 우리도 항상 너희를 위하여 기도함은 우리 하나님이 너희를 그
부르심에 합당한 자로 여기시고 모든 선을 기뻐함과 믿음의 역사를 능력으로 이루게
하시고
1:11 For this reason, you are ever in our prayers, that you may seem to our God such
as may have a part in his purpose and that by his power he will make all his good
purpose, and the work of faith, complete;
1:11 Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you
worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of his goodness, and
the work of faith with power:
1:12 우리 하나님과 주 예수 그리스도의 은혜대로 우리 주 예수의 이름이 너희
가운데서 영광을 얻으시고 너희도 그 안에서 영광을 얻게 하려 함이니라
1:12 So that glory may be given to the name of our Lord Jesus through you, and you may
have glory in him, by the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1:12 That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and
all of you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
2:1 형제들아 우리가 너희에게 구하는 것은 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 강림하심과
우리가 그 앞에 모임에 관하여
2:1 Now as to the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, and our meeting with him, it is our
desire, my brothers,
2:1 Now we plead to you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and by our gathering together unto him,
2:2 혹 영으로나 혹 말로나 혹 우리에게서 받았다 하는 편지로나 주의 날이 이르렀다고
쉬 동심하거나 두려워하거나 하지 아니할 그것이라
2:2 That you may not be moved in mind or troubled by a spirit, or by a word, or by a
letter as from us, with the suggestion that the day of the Lord is even now come;
2:2 That all of you be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by
spirit, (o. pneuma) nor by word, (o. logos) nor by letter as from us, as that
the day of Christ is at hand.
2:3 누가 아무렇게 하여도 너희가 미혹하지 말라 먼저 배도하는 일이 있고 저
불법의 사람 곧 멸망의 아들이 나타나기 전에는 이르지 아니하리니
2:3 Give no belief to false words: because there will first be a falling away from the
faith, and the revelation of the man of sin, the son of destruction,
2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except
there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of
perdition;
2:4 저는 대적하는 자라 범사에 일컫는 하나님이나 숭배함을 받는 자 위에 뛰어나
자존하여 하나님 성전에 앉아 자기를 보여 하나님이라 하느니라
2:4 Who puts himself against all authority, lifting himself up over all which is named
God or is given worship; so that he takes his seat in the Temple of God, putting
himself forward as God.
2:4 Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that
is worshipped; so that he as God sits in the temple of God, showing himself
that he is God.
2:5 내가 너희와 함께 있을 때에 이 일을 너희에게 말한 것을 기억하지 못하느냐
2:5 Have you no memory of what I said when I was with you, giving you word of these
things?
2:5 Remember all of you not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
2:6 저로 하여금 저의 때에 나타나게 하려 하여 막는 것을 지금도 너희가 아나니
2:6 And now it is clear to you what is keeping back his revelation till the time comes
for him to be seen.
2:6 And now all of you know what withholds that he might be revealed in his time.
2:7 불법의 비밀이 이미 활동하였으나 지금 막는 자가 있어 그 중에서 옮길 때까지 하리라
2:7 For the secret of evil is even now at work: but there is one who is keeping back
the evil till he is taken out of the way.
2:7 For the mystery of iniquity does already work: only he who now lets will
let, until he be taken out of the way.
2:8 그 때에 불법한 자가 나타나리니 주 예수께서 그 입의 기운으로 저를 죽이시고
강림하여 나타나심으로 폐하시리라
2:8 And then will come the revelation of that evil one, whom the Lord Jesus will put
to death with the breath of his mouth, and give to destruction by the revelation
of his coming;
2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with
the spirit (o. pneuma) of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of
his coming:
2:9 악한 자의 임함은 사단의 역사를 따라 모든 능력과 표적과 거짓 기적과
2:9 Even the one whose coming is marked by the working of Satan, with all power and
signs and false wonders,
2:9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and
signs and lying wonders,
2:10 불의의 모든 속임으로 멸망하는 자들에게 임하리니 이는 저희가 진리의 사랑을
받지 아니하여 구원함을 얻지 못함이니라
2:10 And with every deceit of wrongdoing among those whose fate is destruction; because
they were quite without that love of the true faith by which they might have salvation.
2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish;
because they received not the love (o. agape) of the truth, that they might
be saved.
2:11 이러므로 하나님이 유혹을 저의 가운데 역사하게 하사 거짓 것을 믿게 하심은
2:11 And for this cause, God will give them up to the power of deceit and they will put
their faith in what is false:
2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should
believe a lie:
2:12 진리를 믿지 않고 불의를 좋아하는 모든 자로 심판을 받게 하려 하심이니라
2:12 So that they all may be judged, who had no faith in what is true, but took pleasure
in evil.
2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure
in unrighteousness.
2:13 ○ 주의 사랑하시는 형제들아 우리가 항상 너희를 위하여 마땅히 하나님께
감사할 것은 하나님이 처음부터 너희를 택하사 성령의 거룩하게 하심과 진리를 믿음으로
구원을 얻게 하심이니
2:13 But it is right for us to give praise to God at all times for you, brothers, loved
by the Lord, because it was the purpose of God from the first that you might have
salvation, being made holy by the Spirit and by faith in what is true:
2:13 But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren beloved
of the Lord, because God has from the beginning chosen you to salvation through
sanctification of the Spirit (o. pneuma) and belief of the truth:
2:14 이를 위하여 우리 복음으로 너희를 부르사 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 영광을
얻게 하려 하심이니라
2:14 And in this purpose he gave you a part through the good news of which we were the
preachers, even that you might have part in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
2:14 Unto which he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory
of our Lord Jesus Christ.
2:15 이러므로 형제들아 굳게 서서 말로나 우리 편지로 가르침을 받은 유전을 지키라
2:15 So then, brothers, be strong in purpose, and keep the teaching which has been given
to you by word or by letter from us.
2:15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which all of
you have been taught, whether by word, (o. logos) or our epistle.
2:16 ○ 우리 주 예수 그리스도와 우리를 사랑하시고 영원한 위로와 좋은 소망을
은혜로 주신 하나님 우리 아버지께서
2:16 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father who had love for us and has
given us eternal comfort and good hope through grace,
2:16 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which has
loved us, and has given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,
2:17 너희 마음을 위로하시고 모든 선한 일과 말에 굳게 하시기를 원하노라
2:17 Give you comfort and strength in every good work and word.
2:17 Comfort your hearts, and establish you in every good word (o. logos)
and work.
3:1 종말로 형제들아 너희는 우리를 위하여 기도하기를 주의 말씀이 너희 가운데서와
같이 달음질하여 영광스럽게 되고
3:1 For the rest, my brothers, let there be prayer for us that the word of the Lord
may go forward with increasing glory, even as it does with you;
3:1 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word (o. logos) of the Lord
may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you:
3:2 또한 우리를 무리하고 악한 사람들에게서 건지옵소서 하라 믿음은 모든 사람의
것이 아님이라
3:2 And that we may be made free from foolish and evil men; for not all have faith.
3:2 And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all
men have not faith.
3:3 주는 미쁘사 너희를 굳게 하시고 악한 자에게서 지키시리라
3:3 But the Lord is true, who will give you strength and keep you safe from evil.
3:3 But the Lord is faithful, who shall establish you, and keep you from evil.
3:4 너희에게 대하여는 우리의 명한 것을 너희가 행하고 또 행할 줄을 우리가
주 안에서 확신하노니
3:4 And we have faith in the Lord about you, that you are doing and will do the things
about which we give you orders.
3:4 And we have confidence in the Lord concerning you, that all of you both
do and will do the things which we command you.
3:5 주께서 너희 마음을 인도하여 하나님의 사랑과 그리스도의 인내에 들어가게
하시기를 원하노라
3:5 And may your hearts be guided by the Lord into the love of God and quiet waiting
for Christ.
3:5 And the Lord direct your hearts into the love (o. agape) of God, and
into the patient waiting for Christ.
3:6 ○ 형제들아 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 너희를 명하노니 규모 없이
행하고 우리에게 받은 유전대로 행하지 아니하는 모든 형제에게서 떠나라
3:6 Now we give you orders, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep
away from all those whose behaviour is not well ordered and in harmony with the
teaching which they had from us.
3:6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that
all of you withdraw yourselves from every brother that walks disorderly, and
not after the tradition which he received of us.
3:7 어떻게 우리를 본받아야 할 것을 너희가 스스로 아나니 우리가 너희 가운데서
규모 없이 행하지 아니하며
3:7 For you yourselves are used to taking us as your example, because our life among
you was ruled by order,
3:7 For yourselves know how all of you ought to follow us: for we behaved
not ourselves disorderly among you;
3:8 누구에게서든지 양식을 값 없이 먹지 않고 오직 수고하고 애써 주야로 일함은
너희 아무에게도 누를 끼치지 아니하려 함이니
3:8 And we did not take food from any man for nothing, but were working hard night and
day not to be a trouble to any of you:
3:8 Neither did we eat any man's bread for nothing; but wrought with labour
and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you:
3:9 우리에게 권리가 없는 것이 아니요 오직 스스로 너희에게 본을 주어 우리를
본받게 하려 함이니라
3:9 Not because we have not the right, but to make ourselves an example to you, so that
you might do the same.
3:9 Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an example unto
you to follow us.
3:10 우리가 너희와 함께 있을 때에도 너희에게 명하기를 누구든지 일하기 싫어하거든
먹지도 말게 하라 하였더니
3:10 For even when we were with you we gave you orders, saying, If any man does no work,
let him not have food.
3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would
not work, neither should he eat.
3:11 우리가 들은즉 너희 가운데 규모 없이 행하여 도무지 일하지 아니하고 일만
만드는 자들이 있다 하니
3:11 For it has come to our ears that there are some among you whose behaviour is uncontrolled,
who do no work at all, but are over-interested in the business of others.
3:11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working
not at all, but are busybodies.
3:12 이런 자들에게 우리가 명하고 주 예수 그리스도 안에서 권하기를 종용히
일하여 자기 양식을 먹으라 하노라
3:12 Now to such we give orders and make request in the Lord Jesus, that, working quietly,
they get their living.
3:12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ,
that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.
3:13 형제들아 너희는 선을 행하다가 낙심치 말라
3:13 And you, my brothers, do not get tired of well-doing.
3:13 But all of you, brethren, be not weary in well doing.
3:14 누가 이 편지에 한 우리 말을 순종치 아니하거든 그 사람을 지목하여 사귀지
말고 저로 하여금 부끄럽게 하라
3:14 And if any man does not give attention to what we have said in this letter, take
note of that man, and keep away from him, so that he may be shamed.
3:14 And if any man obey not our word (o. logos) by this epistle, note that
man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.
3:15 그러나 원수와 같이 생각지 말고 형제 같이 권하라
3:15 Have no feeling of hate for him, but take him in hand seriously as a brother.
3:15 Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.
3:16 ○ 평강의 주께서 친히 때마다 일마다 너희에게 평강을 주시기를 원하노라
주는 너희 모든 사람과 함께 하실지어다
3:16 Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. May
the Lord be with you all.
3:16 Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The
Lord be with you all.
3:17 ○ 나 바울은 친필로 문안하노니 이는 편지마다 표적이기로 이렇게 쓰노라
3:17 These words of love to you at the end are in my writing, Paul's writing, and this
is the mark of every letter from me.
3:17 The salutation of Paul with mine own hand, which is the token in every
epistle: so I write.
3:18 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 은혜가 너희 무리에게 있을지어다
3:18 May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
