1:1 Paul, an Apostle of Jesus Christ, by the purpose of God, and Timothy our brother,

1:2 To the saints and true brothers in Christ at Colossae: Grace to you and peace from God our Father.
1:2 To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

1:3 We give praise to God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, making prayer for you at all times,
1:3 We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,

1:4 After hearing of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which you have for all the saints,
1:4 Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the (o. agape) love which all of you have to all the saints,

1:5 Through the hope which is in store for you in heaven; knowledge of which was given to you before in the true word of the good news,
1:5 For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof all of you heard before in the (o. logos) word of the truth of the gospel;

1:6 Which has come to you; and which in all the world is giving fruit and increase, as it has done in you from the day when it came to your ears and you had true knowledge of the grace of God;
1:6 Which has come unto you, as it is in all the world; and brings forth fruit, as it does also in you, since the day all of you heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:

1:7 As it was given to you by Epaphras, our well-loved helper, who is a true servant of Christ for us,
1:7 As all of you also learned of Epaphras our dear fellow servant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ;

1:8 And who, himself, made clear to us your love in the Spirit.
1:8 Who also declared unto us your (o. agape) love in the (o. pneuma) Spirit.

1:9 For this reason, we, from the day when we had word of it, keep on in prayer for you, that you may be full of the knowledge of his purpose, with all wisdom and experience of the Spirit,
1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that all of you might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

1:10 Living uprightly in the approval of the Lord, giving fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
1:10 That all of you might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

1:11 Full of strength in the measure of the great power of his glory, so that you may undergo all troubles with joy;
1:11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

1:12 Giving praise to the Father who has given us a part in the heritage of the saints in light;
1:12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which has made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

1:13 Who has made us free from the power of evil and given us a place in the kingdom of the Son of his love;
1:13 Who has delivered us from the power of darkness, and has translated us into the kingdom of his (o. agape) dear Son:

1:14 In whom we have our salvation, the forgiveness of sins:

1:15 Who is the image of the unseen God coming into existence before all living things;
1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

1:16 For by him all things were made, in heaven and on earth, things seen and things unseen, authorities, lords, rulers, and powers; all things were made by him and for him;
1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

1:17 He is before all things, and in him all things have being.
1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: the starting point of all things, the first to come again from the dead; so that in all things he might have the chief place.
1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

1:19 For God in full measure was pleased to be in him;
1:19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell;

1:20 Through him uniting all things with himself, having made peace through the blood of his cross; through him, I say, uniting all things which are on earth or in heaven.
1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

1:21 And you, who in the past were cut off and at war with God in your minds through evil works, he has now made one
1:21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now has he reconciled

1:22 In the body of his flesh through death, so that you might be holy and without sin and free from all evil before him:
1:22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and irreproachable in his sight:

1:23 If you keep yourselves safely based in the faith, not moved from the hope of the good news which came to you, and which was given to every living being under heaven; of which I, Paul, was made a servant.
1:23 If all of you continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which all of you have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

1:24 Now I have joy in my pain because of you, and in my flesh I undergo whatever is still needed to make the sorrows of Christ complete, for the salvation of his body, the church;
1:24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:

1:25 Of which I became a servant by the purpose of God which was given to me for you, to give effect to the word of God,
1:25 Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfill the (o. logos) word of God;

1:26 The secret which has been kept from all times and generations, but has now been made clear to his saints,
1:26 Even the mystery which has been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:

1:27 To whom God was pleased to give knowledge of the wealth of the glory of this secret among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

1:28 Whom we are preaching; guiding and teaching every man in all wisdom, so that every man may be complete in Christ;
1:28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:

2:1 For it is my desire to give you news of the great fight I am making for you and for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not seen my face in the flesh;
2:1 For I would that all of you knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;

2:2 ÀÌ´Â ÀúÈñ·Î ¸¶À½¿¡ À§¾ÈÀ» ¹Þ°í »ç¶û ¾È¿¡¼­ ¿¬ÇÕÇÏ¿© ¿ø¸¸ÇÑ ÀÌÇØÀÇ ¸ðµç ºÎ¿ä¿¡ À̸£·¯ Çϳª´ÔÀÇ ºñ¹ÐÀÎ ±×¸®½ºµµ¸¦ ±ú´Ý°Ô ÇÏ·Á ÇÔÀ̶ó
2:2 So that their hearts may be comforted, and that being joined together in love, they may come to the full wealth of the certain knowledge of the secret of God, even Christ,
2:2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in (o. agape) love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;

2:3 ±× ¾È¿¡´Â ÁöÇý¿Í Áö½ÄÀÇ ¸ðµç º¸È­°¡ °¨Ãë¾î ÀÖ´À´Ï¶ó
2:3 In whom are all the secret stores of wisdom and knowledge.
2:3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

2:4 ³»°¡ ÀÌ°ÍÀ» ¸»ÇÔÀº ¾Æ¹«µµ °ø±³ÇÑ ¸»·Î ³ÊÈñ¸¦ ¼ÓÀÌÁö ¸øÇÏ°Ô ÇÏ·Á ÇÔÀÌ´Ï
2:4 I say this so that you may not be turned away by any deceit of words.
2:4 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.

2:5 ÀÌ´Â ³»°¡ À°½ÅÀ¸·Î´Â ¶°³ª ÀÖÀ¸³ª ½É·ÉÀ¸·Î´Â ³ÊÈñ¿Í ÇÔ²² ÀÖ¾î ³ÊÈñÀÇ ±Ô¸ð¿Í ±×¸®½ºµµ¸¦ ¹Ï´Â ³ÊÈñ ¹ÏÀ½ÀÇ ±»Àº °ÍÀ» ±â»Ú°Ô º½À̶ó
2:5 For though I am not present in the flesh, still I am with you in the spirit, seeing with joy your order, and your unchanging faith in Christ.
2:5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the (o. pneuma) spirit, rejoicing and beholding your order, and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.

2:6 As, then, you took Christ Jesus the Lord, so go on in him,
2:6 As all of you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk all of you in him:

2:7 ±× ¾È¿¡ »Ñ¸®¸¦ ¹ÚÀ¸¸ç ¼¼¿òÀ» ÀÔ¾î ±³ÈÆÀ» ¹ÞÀº ´ë·Î ¹ÏÀ½¿¡ ±»°Ô ¼­¼­ °¨»çÇÔÀ» ³ÑÄ¡°Ô Ç϶ó
2:7 Rooted and based together in him, strong in the faith which the teaching gave you, giving praise to God at all times.
2:7 Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as all of you have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

2:8 ¡Û ´©°¡ öÇаú ÇêµÈ ¼ÓÀÓ¼ö·Î ³ÊÈñ¸¦ ³ë·«ÇÒ±î ÁÖÀÇÇ϶ó ÀÌ°ÍÀÌ »ç¶÷ÀÇ À¯Àü°ú ¼¼»óÀÇ ÃʵîÇй®À» ÁÀÀ½ÀÌ¿ä ±×¸®½ºµµ¸¦ ÁÀÀ½ÀÌ ¾Æ´Ï´Ï¶ó
2:8 Take care that no one takes you away by force, through man's wisdom and deceit, going after the beliefs of men and the theories of the world, and not after Christ:
2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

2:9 ±× ¾È¿¡´Â ½Å¼ºÀÇ ¸ðµç Ã游ÀÌ À°Ã¼·Î °ÅÇϽðí
2:9 For in him all the wealth of God's being has a living form,
2:9 For in him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.

2:10 And you are complete in him, who is the head of all rule and authority:
2:10 And all of you are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

2:11 In whom you had a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ;
2:11 In whom also all of you are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

3:1 If then you have a new life with Christ, give your attention to the things of heaven, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.

4:8 And I have sent him to you for this very purpose, so that you may have news of how we are, and so that he may give your hearts comfort;

4:11 And Jesus, whose other name is Justus; these are of the circumcision: they are my only brother-workers for the kingdom of God, who have been a comfort to me.
