1:1 初めからあったもの、わたしたちが聞いたもの、目でみたもの、よく見て手でさわったもの、すなわち、いのちの言についてーー
1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word (o. logos) of life;
1:2 このいのちが現れたので、この永遠のいのちをわたしたちは見て、そのあかしをし、かつ、あなたがたに告げ知らせるのである。この永遠のいのちは、父と共にいましたが、今やわたしたちに現れたものであるーー
1:2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and show unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
1:3 すなわち、わたしたちが見たもの、聞いたものを、あなたがたにも告げ知らせる。それは、あなたがたも、わたしたちの交わりにあずかるようになるためである。わたしたちの交わりとは、父ならびに御子イエス・キリストとの交わりのことである。
1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that all of you also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
1:4 これを書きおくるのは、わたしたちの喜びが満ちあふれるためである。
1:4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
1:5 わたしたちがイエスから聞いて、あなたがたに伝えるおとずれは、こうである。神は光であって、神には少しの暗いところもない。
1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
1:6 神と交わりをしていると言いながらも、もし、やみの中を歩いているなら、わたしたちは偽っているのであって、真理を行っているのではない。
1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
1:7 しかし、神が光の中にいますように、わたしたちも光の中を歩くならば、わたしたちは互に交わりをもち、そして、御子イエスの血が、すべての罪からわたしたちをきよめるのである。
1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.
1:8 もし、罪がないと言うなら、それは自分を欺くことであって、真理はわたしたちのうちにない。
1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1:9 もし、わたしたちが自分の罪を告白するならば、神は真実で正しいかたであるから、その罪をゆるし、すべての不義からわたしたちをきよめて下さる。
1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1:10 もし、罪を犯したことがないと言うなら、それは神を偽り者とするのであって、神の言はわたしたちのうちにない。
1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word (o. logos) is not in us.
2:1 わたしの子たちよ。これらのことを書きおくるのは、あなたがたが罪を犯さないようになるためである。もし、罪を犯す者があれば、父のみもとには、わたしたちのための助け主、すなわち、義なるイエス・キリストがおられる。
2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that all of you sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
2:2 彼は、わたしたちの罪のための、あがないの供え物である。ただ、わたしたちの罪のためばかりではなく、全世界の罪のためである。
2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for our's only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
2:3 もし、わたしたちが彼の戒めを守るならば、それによって彼を知っていることを悟るのである。
2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
2:4 「彼を知っている」と言いながら、その戒めを守らない者は、偽り者であって、真理はその人のうちにない。
2:4 He that says, I know him, and keeps not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
2:5 しかし、彼の御言を守る者があれば、その人のうちに、神の愛が新に全うされるのである。
2:5 But whoso keeps his word, (o. logos) in him verily is the love (o. agape) of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
2:6 「彼におる」という者は、彼が歩まれたように、その人自身も歩くべきである。
2:6 He that says he abides in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
2:7 愛する者たちよ。わたしがあなたがたに書きおくるのは、新しい戒めではなく、あなたがたが初めから受けていた古い戒めである。その古い戒めとは、あなたがたがすでに聞いた御言である。
2:7 Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which all of you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word (o. logos) which all of you have heard from the beginning.
2:8 しかも、新しい戒めを、あなたがたに書きおくるのである。そして、それは、彼にとってもあなたがたにとっても、真理なのである。なぜなら、やみは過ぎ去り、まことの光がすでに輝いているからである。
2:8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shines.
2:9 「光の中にいる」と言いながら、その兄弟を憎む者は、今なお、やみの中にいるのである。
2:9 He that says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness even until now.
2:10 兄弟を愛する者は、光におるのであって、つまずくことはない。
2:10 He that loves his brother abides in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
2:11 兄弟を憎む者は、やみの中におり、やみの中を歩くのであって、自分ではどこへ行くか分からない。やみが彼の目を見えなくしているからである。
2:11 But he that hates his brother is in darkness, and walks in darkness, and knows not where he goes, because that darkness has blinded his eyes.
2:12 子たちよ。あなたがたにこれを書きおくるのは、御名のゆえに、あなたがたの多くの罪がゆるされたからである。
2:12 I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.
2:13 父たちよ。あなたがたに書きおくるのは、あなたがたが、初めからいますかたを知ってたからである。若者たちよ。あなたがたに書きおくるのは、あなたがたが、悪しき者にうち勝ったからである。
2:13 I write unto you, fathers, because all of you have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because all of you have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because all of you have known the Father.
2:14 子供たちよ。あなたがたに書きおくったのは、あなたがたが父を知ったからである。父たちよ。あなたがたに書きおくったのは、あなたがたが、初めからいます方を知ったからである。若者たちよ。あなたがたに書きおくったのは、あなたがたが強い者であり、神の言があなたがたに宿り、そして、あなたがたが悪しき者に打ち勝ったかである。
2:14 I have written unto you, fathers, because all of you have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because all of you are strong, and the word (o. logos) of God abides in you, and all of you have overcome the wicked one.
2:15 世と世にあるものを、愛してはいけない。もし、世を愛する者があれば、父の愛は彼のうちにない。
2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love (o. agape) of the Father is not in him.
2:16 すべて世にあるものは、すなわち、肉の欲、目の欲、持ち物の誇は、父から出たものではなく、世から出たものである。
2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
2:17 世と世の欲とは過ぎ去る。しかし、神の御旨を行うものは、永遠にながらえる。
2:17 And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he that does the will of God abides for ever.
2:18 子供たちよ。今は終りの時である。あなたがたがかねて反キリストが来ると聞いていたように、今や多くの反キリストが現れてきた。それによって今が終りの時であることを知る。
2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as all of you have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
2:19 彼らはわたしたちから出て行った。しかし、彼らがわたしたちに属する者ではなかったのである。もし属する者であったら、わたしたちと一緒にとどまっていたであろう。しかし、出て行ったのは、元来、彼らがみなわたしたちに属さない者であることが、明らかにされるためである。
2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
2:20 しかし、あなたがたは聖なる者に油を注がれているので、あなたがたすべてが、そのことを知っている。
2:20 But all of you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know all things.
2:21 わたしが書きおくったのは、あなたがたが真理を知らないからではなく、それを知っているからであり、また、すべての偽りは真理から出るものでないことを、知っているからである。
2:21 I have not written unto you because all of you know not the truth, but because all of you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
2:22 偽り者とは、だれであるか。イエスのキリストであることを否定する者ではないか。父と御子とを否定する者は、反キリストである。
2:22 Who is a liar but he that denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denies the Father and the Son.
2:23 御子を否定する者は父をもたず、御子を告白する者は、また父を持つのである。
2:23 Whosoever denies the Son, the same has not the Father: he that acknowledges the Son has the Father also.
2:24 初めから聞いたことが、あなたがたのうちに、とどまるようにしなさい。初めから聞いたことが、あなたがたのうちにとどまっておれば、あなたがたも御子と父とのうちに、とどまることになる。
2:24 Let that therefore abide in you, which all of you have heard from the beginning. If that which all of you have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, all of you also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
2:25 これが、彼自らわたしたちに約束された約束であって、すなわち、永遠のいのちである。
2:25 And this is the promise that he has promised us, even eternal life.
2:26 わたしは、あなたがたを惑わす者たちについて、これらのことを書きおくった。
2:26 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.
2:27 あなたがたのうちには、キリストからいただいた油がとどまっているので、だれにも教えてもらう必要はない。この油が、すべてのことをあなたがたに教える。それはまことであって、偽りではないから、その油が教えたように、あなたがたは彼のうちにとどまっていなさい。
2:27 But the anointing which all of you have received of him abides in you, and all of you need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teaches you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it has taught you, all of you shall abide in him.
2:28 そこで、子たちよ。キリストのうちにとどまっていなさい。それは、彼が現れる時に、確信を持ち、その来臨に際して、みまえに恥じいることがないためである。
2:28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
2:29 彼の義なるかたであることがわかれば、義を行う者はみな彼から生まれたものであることを、知るであろう。
2:29 If all of you know that he is righteous, all of you know that every one that does righteousness is born of him.
3:1 わたしたちが神の子と呼ばれるためには、どんな大きな愛を父から賜ったことか、よく考えてみなさい。わたしたちは、すでに神の子なのである。世がわたしたちを知らないのは、父を知らなかったからである。
3:1 Behold, what manner of love (o. agape) the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knows us not, because it knew him not.
3:2 愛する者たちよ。わたしたちは今や神の子である。しかし、わたしたちがどうなるのか、まだ明かではない。彼らが現れる時、わたしたちは、自分たちが彼に似るものとなることを知っている。そのまことの御姿を見るからである。
3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it does not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3:3 彼についてこの望みを抱いている者は皆、彼がきよくあられるように、自らをきよくする。
3:3 And every man that has this hope in him purifies himself, even as he is pure.
3:4 すべて罪を犯す者は、不法を行う者である。罪は不法である。
3:4 Whosoever commits sin trangresses also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
3:5 あなたがたが知っているとおり、彼は罪をとり除くために現れたのであって、彼になんら罪がない。
3:5 And all of you know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
3:6 すべて彼におる者は、罪を犯さない。すべて罪を犯す者は彼を見たこともなく、知ったこともない者である。
3:6 Whosoever abides in him sins not: whosoever sins has not seen him, neither known him.
3:7 子たちよ。だれにも惑わされてはならない。彼が義人であると同様に、義を行う者は義人である。
3:7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
3:8 罪を犯す者は、悪魔から出た者である。悪魔は初めから罪を犯しているからである。神の子が現れたのは、悪魔のわざを滅ぼしてしまうためである。
3:8 He that commits sin is of the devil; for the devil sins from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
3:9 すべて神から生まれた者は、罪を犯さない。神の種が、その人のうちにとどまっているからである。また、その人は、神から生まれた者であるから、罪を犯すことができない。
3:9 Whosoever is born of God does not commit sin; for his seed remains in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
3:10 神の子と悪魔の子との区別は、これによって明らかである。すなわち、すべて義を行わない者は、神から出た者ではない。兄弟を愛さない者も、同様である。
3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever does not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loves not his brother.
3:11 わたしたちは互に愛し合うべきである。これが、あなたがたの初めから聞いていたおとずれである。
3:11 For this is the message that all of you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.
3:12 カインのようになってはいけない。彼は悪しき者から出て、その兄弟を殺したのである。なぜ兄弟を殺したのか、彼のわざが悪く、その兄弟のわざは正しかったのである。
3:12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.
3:13 兄弟たちよ。世があなたがたを憎んでも、驚くには及ばない。
3:13 Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
3:14 わたしたちは、兄弟を愛しているので、死からいのちへ移ってきたことを、知っている。愛さない者は、死のうちにとどまっている。
3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loves not his brother abides in death.
3:15 あなたがたが知っているとおり、すべての兄弟を憎む者は人殺しであり、人殺しはすべてそのうちに永遠のいのちをとどめてはいない。
3:15 Whosoever hates his brother is a murderer: and all of you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
3:16 主は、わたしたちのためにいのちを捨てて下さった。それによってわたしたちは愛ということを知った。それゆえに、わたしたちもまた、兄弟のためにいのちを捨てるべきである。
3:16 Hereby perceive we the love (o. agape) of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
3:17 世の富を持っていながら、兄弟が困っているのを見て、あわれみの心を閉じる者には、どうして神の愛が、彼のうちにあろうか。
3:17 But whoso has this world's good, and sees his brother have need, and shuts up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwells the love (o. agape) of God in him?
3:18 子たちよ。わたしたちは言や口先だけで愛するのではなく、行いと真実とをもって愛し合おうではないか。
3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, (o. logos) neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
3:19 それによって、わたしたちが真理から出たものであることがわかる。そして、神のみまえに心を安んじよう。
3:19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
3:20 なぜなら、たといわたしたちの心に責められるようなことがあっても、神はわたしたちの心よりも大いなるかたであって、すべてをご存知だからである。
3:20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
3:21 愛する者たちよ。もし心に責められるようなことがなければ、わたしたちは神に対して確信を持つことができる。
3:21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.
3:22 そして願い求めるものは、なんでもいただけるのである。それは、わたしたちが神の戒めを守り、みこころにかなうことを、行っているからである。
3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
3:23 その戒めというのは、神の子イエス・キリストの御名を信じ、わたしたちに命じられたように、互に愛し合うべきことである。
3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
3:24 神の戒めを守る人は、神におり、神もまたその人にいます。そして、神がわたしたちのうちにいますことは、神がわたしたちに賜った御霊によって知るのである。
3:24 And he that keeps his commandments dwells in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit (o. pneuma) which he has given us.
4:1 愛する者たちよ。すべての霊を信じることはしないで、それらの霊が神から出たものであるかどうか、ためしなさい。多くのにせ預言者が世に出てきているからである。
4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, (o. pneuma) but try the spirits (o. pneuma) whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
4:2 あなたがたは、こうして神の霊を知るのである。すなわち、イエス・キリストが肉体をとってこられたことを告白する霊は、すべて神から出ているものであり、
4:2 Hereby know all of you the Spirit (o. pneuma) of God: Every spirit (o. pneuma) that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God:
4:3 イエスを告白しない霊は、すべて神から出ているものではない。これは、反キリストの霊である。あなたがたは、それが来るとかねて聞いていたが、今やすでに世にきている。
4:3 And every spirit (o. pneuma) that confesses not that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof all of you have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4:4 子たちよ。あなたがたは神から出た者であって、彼らにうち勝ったのである。あなたがたのうちにいますのは、世にある者よりも大いなる者なのである。
4:4 All of you are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
4:5 彼らは世から出たものである。だから、彼らは世のことを語り、世も彼らの言うことを聞くのである。
4:5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world hears them.
4:6 しかし、わたしたちは神から出たものである。神を知っている者は、わたしたちの言うことを聞き、神から出ない者は、わたしたちの言うことを聞かない。これによって、わたしたちは、真理の霊との区別を知るのである。
4:6 We are of God: he that knows God hears us; he that is not of God hears not us. Hereby know we the spirit (o. pneuma) of truth, and the spirit (o. pneuma) of error.
4:7 愛する者たちよ。わたしたちは互に愛し合おうではないか。愛は、神から出たものなのである。すべて愛する者は、神から生まれた者であって、神を知っている。
4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love (o. agape) is of God; and every one that loves is born of God, and knows God.
4:8 愛さない者は、神を知らない。神は愛である。
4:8 He that loves not knows not God; for God is love. (o. agape)
4:9 神はそのひとり子を世につかわして下さった。それによって、わたしたちに対する神の愛が明らかにされたのである。
4:9 In this was manifested the love (o. agape) of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
4:10 わたしたちが神を愛したのではなく、神がわたしたちを愛して下さって、わたしたちの罪のためにあがないの供え物として、御子をおつかわしになった。ここに愛がある。
4:10 Herein is love, (o. agape) not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
4:11 愛する者たちよ。神がこのようにわたしたちを愛して下さったのであるから、わたしたちも互に愛し合うべきである。
4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
4:12 神を見た者は、まだひとりもいない。もしわたしたちが互に愛し合うなら、神はわたしたちのうちにいまし、神の愛がわたしたちのうちに全うされるのである。
4:12 No man has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwells in us, and his love (o. agape) is perfected in us.
4:13 神が御霊をわたしたちに賜ったことによって、わたしたちが神におり、神がわたしたちにいますことを知る。
4:13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. (o. pneuma)
4:14 わたしたちは、父が御子を世の救主としておつかわしになったのを見て、そのあかしをするのである。
4:14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
4:15 もし人が、イエスを神の子と告白すれば、神はその人のうちにいまし、その人は神のうちにいるのである。
4:15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwells in him, and he in God.
4:16 わたしたちは、神がわたしたちに対して持っておられる愛を知り、かつ信じている。神は愛である。愛のうちにいる者は、神におり、神も彼にいます。
4:16 And we have known and believed the love (o. agape) that God has to us. God is love; (o. agape) and he that dwells in love (o. agape) dwells in God, and God in him.
4:17 わたしたちもこの世にあって彼のように生きているので、さばきの日に確信を持って立つことができる。そのことによって、愛がわたしたちに全うされているのである。
4:17 Herein is our love (o. agape) made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
4:18 愛には恐れがない。完全な愛は恐れをとり除く。恐れには懲らしめが伴い、かつ恐れる者には、愛が全うされないからである。
4:18 There is no fear in love; (o. agape) but perfect love (o. agape) casts out fear: because fear has torment. He that fears is not made perfect in love. (o. agape)
4:19 わたしたちが愛し合うのは、神がまずわたしたちを愛して下さったからである。
4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.
4:20 「神を愛している」と言いながら兄弟を憎む者は、偽り者である。現にみている兄弟を愛さない者は、目に見えない神を愛することはできない。
4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar: for he that loves not his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
4:21 神を愛する者は、兄弟をも愛すべきである。この戒めを、わたしたちは神から授かっている。
4:21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loves God love his brother also.
5:1 すべてイエスのキリストであることを信じる者は、神から生まれた者である。すべて生んで下さったかたを愛する者は、そのかたから生まれた者をも愛するのである。
5:1 Whosoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loves him that brings forth loves him also that is begotten of him.
5:2 神を愛してその戒めを行えば、それによってわたしたちは、神の子たちを愛していることを知るのである。
5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
5:3 神を愛するとは、すなわち、その戒めを守ることである。そして、その戒めはむずかしいものではない。
5:3 For this is the love (o. agape) of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
5:4 なぜなら、すべて神から生まれた者は、世に勝つからである。そして、わたしたちの信仰こそ、世に勝たしめた勝利の力である。
5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.
5:5 世に勝つ者はだれか。イエスを神の子と信じる者ではないか。
5:5 Who is he that overcomes the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
5:6 このイエス・キリストは、水と血とをとおってこられたかたである。水によるだけではなく、水と血とによってこられたのである。そのあかしをするものは、御霊である。御霊は真理だからである。
5:6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit (o. pneuma) that bears witness, because the Spirit (o. pneuma) is truth.
5:7 あかしをするものが、三つある。
5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, (o. logos) and the Holy Spirit: (o. pneuma) and these three are one.
5:8 御霊と水と血とである。そして、この三つのものは一致する。
5:8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, (o. pneuma) and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
5:9 わたしたちは人間のあかしを受けいれているが、しかし、神のあかしはさらにまさっている。神のあかしというのは、すなわち、御子について立てられたあかしである。
5:9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he has testified of his Son.
5:10 神の子を信じる者は、自分のうちにこのあかしを持っている。神を信じない者は、神を偽り者とする。神が御子についてあかしせられたそのあかしを、信じていないからである。
5:10 He that believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself: he that believes not God has made him a liar; because he believes not the record that God gave of his Son.
5:11 そのあかしとは、神が永遠のいのちをわたしたちに賜り、かつ、そのいのちが御子のうちにあるということである。
5:11 And this is the record, that God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
5:12 御子を持つ者はいのちを持ち、神の御子を持たない者はいのちを持っていない。
5:12 He that has the Son has life; and he that has not the Son of God has not life.
5:13 これらのことをあなたがたに書きおくったのは、神の子の御名を信じるあなたがたに、永遠のいのちを持っていることを、悟らせるためである。
5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that all of you may know that all of you have eternal life, and that all of you may believe on the name of the Son of God.
5:14 わたしたちが神に対していだいている確信は、こうである。すなわち、わたしたちが何事でも神の御旨に従って願い求めるなら、神はそれを聞きいれて下さるということである。
5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he hears us:
5:15 そして、わたしたちが願い求めることは、なんでも聞きいれて下さるとわかれば、神に願い求めたことはすでにかなえられたことを、知るのである。
5:15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
5:16 もしだれかが死に至ることのない罪を犯している兄弟を見たら、神に願い求めなさい。そうすれば神は死に至ることのない罪を犯している人々には、いのちを賜るであろう。死に至る罪がある。これについては、願い求めよ、とは言わない。
5:16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
5:17 不義はすべて、罪である。しかし、死に至ることのない罪もある。
5:17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.
5:18 すべて神から生まれた者は罪を犯さないことを、わたしたちは知っている。神から生まれたかたが彼を守っていて下さるので、悪しき者が手を触れるようなことはない。
5:18 We know that whosoever is born of God sins not; but he that is begotten of God keeps himself, and that wicked one touches him not.
5:19 また、わたしたちは神から出た者であり、全世界は悪しき者の配下にあることを、知っている。
5:19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in wickedness.
5:20 さらに、神の子がきて、真実なかたを知る知力をわたしたちに授けて下さったことも、知っている。そして、わたしたちは、真実なかたにおり、御子イエス・キリストにおるのである。この方は真実な神であり、永遠のいのちである。
5:20 And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
5:21 子たちよ。気をつけて、偶像を避けなさい。
5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
1:1 長老のわたしから、真実に愛している選ばれた婦人とその子たちへ。あなたがたを愛しているのは、わたしだけではなく、真理を知っている者はみなそうである。
1:1 The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;
1:2 それは、わたしたちのうちにあり、また永遠に共にあるべき真理によるのである。
1:2 For the truth's sake, which dwells in us, and shall be with us for ever.
1:3 父なる神および父の御子イエス・キリストから、恵みとあわれみと平安とが、真理と愛のうちにあって、わたしたちと共にあるように。
1:3 Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. (o. agape)
1:4 あなたの子供たちのうちで、わたしたちが父から受けた戒めどおりに、真理のうちを歩いている者があるのを見て、わたしは非常に喜んでいる。
1:4 I rejoiced greatly that I found of your children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
1:5 婦人よ。ここにお願いしたいことがある。それは、新しい戒めを書くわけではなく、初めから持っていた戒めなのであるが、わたしたちは、みんな互に愛し合おうではないか。
1:5 And now I plead to you, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto you, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
1:6 父の戒めどおりに歩くことが、すなわち、愛であり、あなたがたが初めから聞いていたとおりに愛のうちを歩くことが、すなわち、戒めなのである。
1:6 And this is love, (o. agape) that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as all of you have heard from the beginning, all of you should walk in it.
1:7 なぜなら、イエス・キリストが肉体をとってこられたことを告白しないで人を惑わす者が、多く世にはいってきたからである。そういう者は、惑わす者であり、反キリストである。
1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
1:8 よく注意して、わたしたちの働いて得た成果を失うことがなく、豊かな報いを受けられるようにしなさい。
1:8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
1:9 すべてキリストの教をとおり過ごして、それにとどまらない者は、神を持っていないのである。その教にとどまっている者は、父を持ち、また御子を持つ。
1:9 Whosoever trangresses, and abides not in the doctrine of Christ, has not God. He that abides in the doctrine of Christ, he has both the Father and the Son.
1:10 この教を持たずにあなたがたのところにくる者があれば、その人を家に入れることも、あいさつすることもしてはいけない。
1:10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
1:11 そのような人にあいさつする者は、その悪い行いにあずかることになるからである。
1:11 For he that bids him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
1:12 あなたがたに書きおくることはたくさんあるが、紙と墨とで書くことはすまい。むしろ、あなたがたのところに行き、直接はなし合って、共に喜びに満ちあふれたいものである。
1:12 Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.
1:13 選ばれたあなたの姉妹の子供たちが、あなたによろしく。
1:13 The children of your elect sister greet you. Amen.
1:1 長老のわたしから、真実に愛している親愛なるガイオへ。
1:1 The elder unto the beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.

1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.
1:3 兄弟たちがきて、あなたが真理に生きていることを、あかししてくれたので、ひじょうに喜んでいる。事実、あなたは真理のうちを歩いているのである。
1:3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, even as you walk in the truth.
1:4 わたしの子供たちが真理のうちを歩いていることを聞く以上に、大きい喜びはない。
1:4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
1:5 愛する者よ。あなたが、兄弟たち、しかも旅先にある者につくしていることは、みな真実なわざである。
1:5 Beloved, you do faithfully whatsoever you do to the brethren, and to strangers;
1:6 彼らは、諸教会で、あなたの愛についてあかしをした。それらの人々を、神のみこころにかなうように送り出してくれたら、それは願わしいことである。
1:6 Which have borne witness of your love (o. agape) before the church: whom if you bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, you shall do well:
1:7 彼らは、御名のために旅立った者であって、異邦人からは何も受けていない。
1:7 Because that for his name's sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.
1:8 それだから。わたしたちは、真理のための同労者となるように、こういう人々を助けねばならない。
1:8 We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellow-helpers to the truth.
1:9 わたしは少しばかり教会に書きおくっておいたが、みんなのかしらになりたがっているデオテレペスが、わたしたちを受けいれてくれない。
1:9 I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, receives us not.
1:10 だから、わたしがそちらへ行った時、彼のしわざを指摘しようと思う。彼は口ぎたなくわたしたちをののしり、そればかりか、兄弟たちを受けいれようともせず、受けいれようとする人たちを妨げて、教会から追い出している。
1:10 Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he does, babbling against us with malicious words: (o. logos) and not content therewith, neither does he himself receive the brethren, and forbids them that would, and casts them out of the church.
1:11 愛する者よ。悪にならないで、善にならいなさい。善を行う者は神から出た者であり、悪を行う者は神を見たことのない者である。
1:11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that does good is of God: but he that does evil has not seen God.
1:12 デメテリオについては、あらゆる人も、また真理そのものも、証明している。わたしたちも証明している。そして、あなたが知っているとおり、わたしたちの証明は真実である。
1:12 Demetrius has good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and all of you know that our record is true.
1:13 あなたに書きおくりたいことはたくさんあるが、墨と筆で書くことはすまい。
1:13 I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto you:
1:14 すぐにでもあなたに会って、直接はなし合いたいものである。
1:14 But I trust I shall shortly see you, and we shall speak face to face.
1:15 平安が、あなたにあるように。友人たちから、あなたによろしく。友人たちひとりびとりに、よろしく。
