Job / ヨブ記
1:1 ウヅの地にヨブという名の人があった。そのひととなりは全く、かつ正しく、神を恐れ、悪に遠ざかった。
1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.
1:2 彼に男の子七人と女の子三人があり、
1:2 And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.
1:3 その家畜は羊七千頭、らくだ三千頭、牛五百くびき、雌ろば五百頭で、しもべも非常に多く、この人は東の人々のうちで最も大いなる者であった。
1:3 His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.
1:4 そのむすこたちは、めいめい自分の日に、自分の家でふるまいを設け、その三人の姉妹をも招いて一緒に食い飲みするのを常とした。
1:4 And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.
1:5 そのふるまいの日がひとめぐり終るごとに、ヨブは彼らを呼び寄せて聖別し、朝早く起きて、彼らすべての数にしたがって燔祭をささげた。これはヨブが「わたしのむすこたちは、ことによったら罪を犯し、その心に神をのろったかもしれない」と思ったからである。ヨブはいつも、このように行った。
1:5 And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.
1:6 ある日、神の子たちが来て、主の前に立った。サタンも来てその中にいた。
1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.
1:7 主は言われた、「あなたはどこから来たか」。サタンは主に答えて言った、「地を行きめぐり、あちらこちら歩いてきました」。
1:7 And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence come you? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going back and forth in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
1:8 主はサタンに言われた、「あなたはわたしのしもべヨブのように全く、かつ正しく、神を恐れ、悪に遠ざかる者の世にないことを気づいたか」。
1:8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that fears God, and turns away from evil?
1:9 サタンは主に答えて言った、「ヨブはいたずらに神を恐れましょうか。
1:9 Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Does Job fear God for nothing?
1:10 あなたは彼とその家およびすべての所有物のまわりにくまなく、まがきを設けられたではありませんか。あなたは彼の勤労を祝福されたので、その家畜は地にふえたのです。
1:10 Have not you made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he has on every side? you have blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
1:11 しかし今あなたの手を伸べて、彼のすべての所有物を撃ってごらんなさい。彼は必ずあなたの顔に向かって、あなたをのろうでしょう」。
1:11 But put forth yours hand now, and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face.
1:12 主はサタンに言われた、「見よ、彼のすべての所有物をあなたの手にまかせる。ただ彼の身に手をつけてはならない」。サタンは主の前から出て行った。
1:12 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he has is in your power; only upon himself put not forth yours hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.
1:13 ある日ヨブのむすこ、娘たちが第一の兄の家で食事をし、酒を飲んでいたとき、
1:13 And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:
1:14 使者がヨブのもとに来て言った、「牛が耕し、ろばがそのかたわらで草を食っていると、
1:14 And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them:
1:15 シバびとが襲ってきて、これを奪い、つるぎをもってしもべたちを打ち殺しました。わたしはただひとりのがれて、あなたに告げるために来ました」。
1:15 And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell you.
1:16 彼がなお語っているうちに、またひとりが来て言った、「神の火が天から下って、羊およびしもべたちを焼き滅ぼしました。わたしはただひとりのがれて、あなたに告げるために来ました」。
1:16 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and has burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell you.
1:17 彼がなお語っているうちに、またひとりが来て言った、「カルデヤびとが三組に分れて来て、らくだを襲ってこれを奪い、つるぎをもってしもべたちを打ち殺しました。わたしはただひとりのがれて、あなたに告げるために来ました」。
1:17 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell you.
1:18 彼がなお語っているうちに、またひとりが来て言った、「あなたのむすこ、娘たちが第一の兄の家で食事をし、酒を飲んでいると、
1:18 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:
1:19 荒野の方から大風が吹いてきて、家の四すみを撃ったので、あの若い人たちの上につぶれ落ちて、皆死にました。わたしはただひとりのがれて、あなたに告げるために来ました」。
1:19 And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and stroke the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell you.
1:20 このときヨブは起き上がり、上着を裂き、頭をそり、地に伏して拝し、
1:20 Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,
1:21 そして言った、／「わたしは裸で母の胎を出た。また裸でかしこに帰ろう。主が与え、主が取られたのだ。主のみ名はほむべきかな」。
1:21 And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
1:22 すべてこの事においてヨブは罪を犯さず、また神に向かって愚かなことを言わなかった。
1:22 In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
2:1 ある日、また神の子たちが来て、主の前に立った。サタンもまたその中に来て、主の前に立った。
2:1 Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.
2:2 主はサタンに言われた、「あなたはどこから来たか」。サタンは主に答えて言った、「地を行きめぐり、あちらこちら歩いてきました」。
2:2 And the LORD said unto Satan, From whence come you? And Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going back and forth in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
2:3 主はサタンに言われた、「あなたは、わたしのしもべヨブのように全く、かつ正しく、神を恐れ、悪に遠ざかる者の世にないことを気づいたか。あなたは、わたしを勧めて、ゆえなく彼を滅ぼそうとしたが、彼はなお堅く保って、おのれを全うした」。
2:3 And the LORD said unto Satan, Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that fears God, and turns away from evil? and still he holds fast his integrity, although you moved me against him, to destroy him without cause.
2:4 サタンは主に答えて言った、「皮には皮をもってします。人は自分の命のために、その持っているすべての物をも与えます。
2:4 And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man has will he give for his life.
2:5 しかしいま、あなたの手を伸べて、彼の骨と肉とを撃ってごらんなさい。彼は必ずあなたの顔に向かって、あなたをのろうでしょう」。
2:5 But put forth yours hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face.
2:6 主はサタンに言われた、「見よ、彼はあなたの手にある。ただ彼の命を助けよ」。
2:6 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in yours hand; but save his life.
2:7 サタンは主の前から出て行って、ヨブを撃ち、その足の裏から頭の頂まで、いやな腫物をもって彼を悩ました。
2:7 So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and stroke Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.
2:8 ヨブは陶器の破片を取り、それで自分の身をかき、灰の中にすわった。
2:8 And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself likewise; and he sat down among the ashes.
2:9 時にその妻は彼に言った、「あなたはなおも堅く保って、自分を全うするのですか。神をのろって死になさい」。
2:9 Then said his wife unto him, Do you still retain yours integrity? curse God, and die.
2:10 しかしヨブは彼女に言った、「あなたの語ることは愚かな女の語るのと同じだ。われわれは神から幸をうけるのだから、災をも、うけるべきではないか」。すべてこの事においてヨブはそのくちびるをもって罪を犯さなかった。
2:10 But he said unto her, You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.
2:11 時に、ヨブの三人の友がこのすべての災のヨブに臨んだのを聞いて、めいめい自分の所から尋ねて来た。すなわちテマンびとエリパズ、シュヒびとビルダデ、ナアマびとゾパルである。彼らはヨブをいたわり、慰めようとして、たがいに約束してきたのである。
2:11 Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.
2:12 彼らは目をあげて遠方から見たが、彼のヨブであることを認めがたいほどであったので、声をあげて泣き、めいめい自分の上着を裂き、天に向かって、ちりをうちあげ、自分たちの頭の上にまき散らした。
2:12 And when they lifted up their eyes far off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they rent every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven.
2:13 こうして七日七夜、彼と共に地に座していて、ひと言も彼に話しかける者がなかった。彼の苦しみの非常に大きいのを見たからである。
2:13 So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spoke a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great.
3:1 この後、ヨブは口を開いて、自分の生れた日をのろった。
3:1 After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day.
3:2 すなわちヨブは言った、
3:2 And Job spoke, and said,
3:3 「わたしの生れた日は滅びうせよ。『男の子が、胎にやどった』と言った夜も／そのようになれ。
3:3 Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a male child conceived.
3:4 その日は暗くなるように。神が上からこれを顧みられないように。光がこれを照さないように。
3:4 Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it.
3:5 やみと暗黒がこれを取りもどすように。雲が、その上にとどまるように。日を暗くする者が、これを脅かすように。
3:5 Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.
3:6 その夜は、暗やみが、これを捕えるように。年の日のうちに加わらないように。月の数にもはいらないように。
3:6 As for that night, let darkness seize upon it; let it not be joined unto the days of the year, let it not come into the number of the months.
3:7 また、その夜は、はらむことのないように。喜びの声がそのうちに聞かれないように。
3:7 Lo, let that night be solitary, let no joyful voice come therein.
3:8 日をのろう者が、これをのろうように。レビヤタンを奮い起すに巧みな者が、／これをのろうように。
3:8 Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to raise up their mourning.
3:9 その明けの星は暗くなるように。光を望んでも、得られないように。また、あけぼののまぶたを見ることのないように。
3:9 Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day:
3:10 これは、わたしの母の胎の戸を閉じず、／また悩みをわたしの目に隠さなかったからである。
3:10 Because it shut not up the doors of my mother's womb, nor hid sorrow from mine eyes.
3:11 なにゆえ、わたしは胎から出て、死ななかったのか。腹から出たとき息が絶えなかったのか。
3:11 Why died I not from the womb? why did I not give up the spirit when I came out of the belly?
3:12 なにゆえ、ひざが、わたしを受けたのか。なにゆえ、乳ぶさがあって、／わたしはそれを吸ったのか。
3:12 Why did the knees prevent me? or why the breasts that I should suck?
3:13 そうしなかったならば、／わたしは伏して休み、眠ったであろう。そうすればわたしは安んじており、
3:13 For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then had I been at rest,
3:14 自分のために荒れ跡を築き直した／地の王たち、参議たち、
3:14 With kings and counsellors of the earth, which build desolate places for themselves;
3:15 あるいは、こがねを持ち、／しろがねを家に満たした／君たちと一緒にいたであろう。
3:15 Or with princes that had gold, who filled their houses with silver:
3:16 なにゆえ、わたしは人知れずおりる胎児のごとく、／光を見ないみどりごのようでなかったのか。
3:16 Or as an hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants which never saw light.
3:17 かしこでは悪人も、あばれることをやめ、／うみ疲れた者も、休みを得、
3:17 There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at rest.
3:18 捕われ人も共に安らかにおり、／追い使う者の声を聞かない。
3:18 There the prisoners rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor.
3:19 小さい者も大きい者もそこにおり、／奴隷も、その主人から解き放される。
3:19 The small and great are there; and the servant is free from his master.
3:20 なにゆえ、悩む者に光を賜い、／心の苦しむ者に命を賜わったのか。
3:20 Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul;
3:21 このような人は死を望んでも来ない、／これを求めることは隠れた宝を／掘るよりも、はなはだしい。
3:21 Which long for death, but it comes not; and dig for it more than for hid treasures;
3:22 彼らは墓を見いだすとき、非常に喜び楽しむのだ。
3:22 Which rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave?
3:23 なにゆえ、その道の隠された人に、／神が、まがきをめぐらされた人に、光を賜わるのか。
3:23 Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, and whom God has hedged in?
3:24 わたしの嘆きはわが食物に代って来り、／わたしのうめきは水のように流れ出る。
3:24 For my sighing comes before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters.
3:25 わたしの恐れるものが、わたしに臨み、／わたしの恐れおののくものが、わが身に及ぶ。
3:25 For the thing which I greatly feared has come upon me, and that which I was afraid of has come unto me.
3:26 わたしは安らかでなく、またおだやかでない。わたしは休みを得ない、ただ悩みのみが来る」。
3:26 I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came.
4:1 その時、テマンびとエリパズが答えて言った、
4:1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
4:2 「もし人があなたにむかって意見を述べるならば、／あなたは腹を立てるでしょうか。しかしだれが黙っておれましょう。
4:2 If we analyse to commune with you, will you be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking?
4:3 見よ、あなたは多くの人を教えさとし、／衰えた手を強くした。
4:3 Behold, you have instructed many, and you have strengthened the weak hands.
4:4 あなたの言葉はつまずく者をたすけ起し、／かよわいひざを強くした。
4:4 Your words have raised up him that was falling, and you have strengthened the feeble knees.
4:5 ところが今、この事があなたに臨むと、／あなたは耐え得ない。この事があなたに触れると、あなたはおじ惑う。
4:5 But now it has come upon you, and you faint; it touches you, and you are troubled.
4:6 あなたが神を恐れていることは、／あなたのよりどころではないか。あなたの道の全きことは、あなたの望みではないか。
4:6 Is not this your fear, your confidence, your hope, and the uprightness of your ways?
4:7 考えてみよ、だれが罪のないのに、／滅ぼされた者があるか。どこに正しい者で、断ち滅ぼされた者があるか。
4:7 Remember, I pray you, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?
4:8 わたしの見た所によれば、不義を耕し、／害悪をまく者は、それを刈り取っている。
4:8 Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.
4:9 彼らは神のいぶきによって滅び、／その怒りの息によって消えうせる。
4:9 By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.
4:10 ししのほえる声、たけきししの声はともにやみ、／若きししのきばは折られ、
4:10 The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken.
4:11 雄じしは獲物を得ずに滅び、／雌じしの子は散らされる。
4:11 The old lion perishes for lack of prey, and the stout lion's whelps are scattered abroad.
4:12 さて、わたしに、言葉がひそかに臨んだ、／わたしの耳はそのささやきを聞いた。
4:12 Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof.
4:13 すなわち人の熟睡するころ、／夜の幻によって思い乱れている時、
4:13 In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on men,
4:14 恐れがわたしに臨んだので、おののき、／わたしの骨はことごとく震えた。
4:14 Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake.
4:15 時に、霊があって、わたしの顔の前を過ぎたので、／わたしの身の毛はよだった。
4:15 Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up:
4:16 そのものは立ちどまったが、／わたしはその姿を見わけることができなかった。一つのかたちが、わたしの目の前にあった。わたしは静かな声を聞いた、
4:16 It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,
4:17 『人は神の前に正しくありえようか。人はその造り主の前に清くありえようか。
4:17 Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?
4:18 見よ、彼はそのしもべをさえ頼みとせず、／その天使をも誤れる者とみなされる。
4:18 Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly:
4:19 まして、泥の家に住む者、／ちりをその基とする者、／しみのようにつぶされる者。
4:19 How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth?
4:20 彼らは朝から夕までの間に打ち砕かれ、／顧みる者もなく、永遠に滅びる。
4:20 They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding it.
4:21 もしその天幕の綱が／彼らのうちに取り去られるなら、／ついに悟ることもなく、死にうせるではないか』。
4:21 Does not their excellency which is in them go away? they die, even without wisdom.
5:1 試みに呼んでみよ、／だれかあなたに答える者があるか。どの聖者にあなたは頼もうとするのか。
5:1 Call now, if there be any that will answer you; and to which of the saints will you turn?
5:2 確かに、憤りは愚かな者を殺し、／ねたみはあさはかな者を死なせる。
5:2 For wrath kills the foolish man, and envy slays the silly one.
5:3 わたしは愚かな者の根を張るのを見た、／しかしわたしは、にわかにそのすみかをのろった。
5:3 I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation.
5:4 その子らは安きを得ず、／町の門でしえたげられても、これを救う者がない。
5:4 His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them.
5:5 その収穫は飢えた人が食べ、／いばらの中からさえ、これを奪う。また、かわいた者はその財産をあえぎ求める。
5:5 Whose harvest the hungry eats up, and takes it even out of the thorns, and the robber swallows up their substance.
5:6 苦しみは、ちりから起るものでなく、／悩みは土から生じるものでない。
5:6 Although affliction comes not out of the dust, neither does trouble spring out of the ground;
5:7 人が生れて悩みを受けるのは、／火の子が上に飛ぶにひとしい。
5:7 Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.
5:8 しかし、わたしであるならば、神に求め、／神に、わたしの事をまかせる。
5:8 I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:
5:9 彼は大いなる事をされるかたで、測り知れない、／その不思議なみわざは数えがたい。
5:9 Which does great things and unsearchable; marvellous things without number:
5:10 彼は地に雨を降らせ、野に水を送られる。
5:10 Who gives rain upon the earth, and sends waters upon the fields:
5:11 彼は低い者を高くあげ、／悲しむ者を引き上げて、安全にされる。
5:11 To set up on high those that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to safety.
5:12 彼は悪賢い者の計りごとを敗られる。それで何事もその手になし遂げることはできない。
5:12 He dissapoints the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.
5:13 彼は賢い者を、彼ら自身の悪巧みによって捕え、／曲った者の計りごとをくつがえされる。
5:13 He takes the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the perverse is carried headlong.
5:14 彼らは昼も、やみに会い、／真昼にも、夜のように手探りする。
5:14 They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope in the noonday as in the night.
5:15 彼は貧しい者を彼らの口のつるぎから救い、／また強い者の手から救われる。
5:15 But he saves the poor from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.
5:16 それゆえ乏しい者に望みがあり、／不義はその口を閉じる。
5:16 So the poor has hope, and iniquity stops her mouth.
5:17 見よ、神に戒められる人はさいわいだ。それゆえ全能者の懲らしめを軽んじてはならない。
5:17 Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects: therefore despise not you the chastening of the Almighty:
5:18 彼は傷つけ、また包み、／撃ち、またその手をもっていやされる。
5:18 For he makes sore, and binds up: he wounds, and his hands make whole.
5:19 彼はあなたを六つの悩みから救い、／七つのうちでも、災はあなたに触れることがない。
5:19 He shall deliver you in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch you.
5:20 ききんの時には、あなたをあがなって、／死を免れさせ、／いくさの時には、つるぎの力を免れさせられる。
5:20 In famine he shall redeem you from death: and in war from the power of the sword.
5:21 あなたは舌をもってむち打たれる時にも、／おおい隠され、／滅びが来る時でも、恐れることはない。
5:21 You shall be hid from the scourge of the tongue: neither shall you be afraid of destruction when it comes.
5:22 あなたは滅びと、ききんとを笑い、／地の獣をも恐れることはない。
5:22 At destruction and famine you shall laugh: neither shall you be afraid of the beasts of the earth.
5:23 あなたは野の石と契約を結び、／野の獣はあなたと和らぐからである。
5:23 For you shall be in league with the stones of the field: and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with you.
5:24 あなたは自分の天幕の安全なことを知り、／自分の家畜のおりを見回っても、欠けた物がなく、
5:24 And you shall know that your tabernacle shall be in peace; and you shall visit your habitation, and shall not sin.
5:25 また、あなたの子孫の多くなり、／そのすえが地の草のようになるのを知るであろう。
5:25 You shall know also that your seed shall be great, and yours offspring as the grass of the earth.
5:26 あなたは高齢に達して墓に入る、／あたかも麦束をその季節になって／打ち場に運びあげるようになるであろう。
5:26 You shall come to your grave in a full age, like a shock of corn comes in in his season.
5:27 見よ、われわれの尋ねきわめた所はこのとおりだ。あなたはこれを聞いて、みずから知るがよい」。
5:27 Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know you it for your good.
6:1 ヨブは答えて言った、
6:1 But Job answered and said,
6:2 「どうかわたしの憤りが正しく量られ、／同時にわたしの災も、はかりにかけられるように。
6:2 Oh that my grief were thoroughly weighed, and my calamity laid in the balances together!
6:3 そうすれば、これは海の砂よりも重いに相違ない。それゆえ、わたしの言葉が軽率であったのだ。
6:3 For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea: therefore my words are swallowed up.
6:4 全能者の矢が、わたしのうちにあり、／わたしの霊はその毒を飲み、／神の恐るべき軍勢が、わたしを襲い攻めている。
6:4 For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison whereof drinks up my spirit: the terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.
6:5 野ろばは、青草のあるのに鳴くであろうか。牛は飼葉の上でうなるであろうか。
6:5 Does the wild ass bray when he has grass? or lows the ox over his fodder?
6:6 味のない物は塩がなくて食べられようか。すべりひゆのしるは味があろうか。
6:6 Can that which is unpleasing be eaten without salt? or is there any taste in the white of an egg?
6:7 わたしの食欲はこれに触れることを拒む。これは、わたしのきらう食物のようだ。
6:7 The things that my soul refused to touch are as my sorrowful food.
6:8 どうかわたしの求めるものが獲られるように。どうか神がわたしの望むものをくださるように。
6:8 Oh that I might have my request; and that God would grant me the thing that I long for!
6:9 どうか神がわたしを打ち滅ぼすことをよしとし、／み手を伸べてわたしを断たれるように。
6:9 Even that it would please God to destroy me; that he would let loose his hand, and cut me off!
6:10 そうすれば、わたしはなお慰めを得、／激しい苦しみの中にあっても喜ぶであろう。わたしは聖なる者の言葉を／否んだことがないからだ。
6:10 Then should I yet have comfort; yea, I would harden myself in sorrow: let him not spare; for I have not concealed the words of the Holy One.
6:11 わたしにどんな力があって、／なお待たねばならないのか。わたしにどんな終りがあるので、／なお耐え忍ばねばならないのか。
6:11 What is my strength, that I should hope? and what is mine end, that I should prolong my life?
6:12 わたしの力は石の力のようであるのか。わたしの肉は青銅のようであるのか。
6:12 Is my strength the strength of stones? or is my flesh of brass?
6:13 まことに、わたしのうちに助けはなく、／救われる望みは、わたしから追いやられた。
6:13 Is not my help in me? and is wisdom driven quite from me?
6:14 その友に対するいつくしみをさし控える者は、／全能者を恐れることをすてる。
6:14 To him that is afflicted pity should be showed from his friend; but he forsakes the fear of the Almighty.
6:15 わが兄弟たちは谷川のように、／過ぎ去る出水のように欺く。
6:15 My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, and as the stream of brooks they pass away;
6:16 これは氷のために黒くなり、／そのうちに雪が隠れる。
6:16 Which are blackish by reason of the ice, and wherein the snow is hid:
6:17 これは暖かになると消え去り、／暑くなるとその所からなくなる。
6:17 What time they wax warm, they vanish: when it is hot, they are consumed out of their place.
6:18 隊商はその道を転じ、／むなしい所へ行って滅びる。
6:18 The paths of their way are turned aside; they go to nothing, and perish.
6:19 テマの隊商はこれを望み、／シバの旅びとはこれを慕う。
6:19 The troops of Tema looked, the companies of Sheba waited for them.
6:20 彼らはこれにたよったために失望し、／そこに来てみて、あわてる。
6:20 They were confounded because they had hoped; they came thither, and were ashamed.
6:21 あなたがたは今わたしにはこのような者となった。あなたがたはわたしの災難を見て恐れた。
6:21 For now all of you are nothing; all of you see my casting down, and are afraid.
6:22 わたしは言ったことがあるか、『わたしに与えよ』と、／あるいは『あなたがたの財産のうちから／わたしのために、まいないを贈れ』と、
6:22 Did I say, Bring unto me? or, Give a reward for me of your substance?
6:23 あるいは『あだの手からわたしを救い出せ』と、／あるいは『しえたげる者の手から／わたしをあがなえ』と。
6:23 Or, Deliver me from the enemy's hand? or, Redeem me from the hand of the mighty?
6:24 わたしに教えよ、そうすればわたしは黙るであろう。わたしの誤っている所をわたしに悟らせよ。
6:24 Teach me, and I will hold my tongue: and cause me to understand wherein I have erred.
6:25 正しい言葉はいかに力のあるものか。しかしあなたがたの戒めは何を戒めるのか。
6:25 How forcible are right words! but what does your arguing reprove?
6:26 あなたがたは言葉を戒めうると思うのか。望みの絶えた者の語ることは風のようなものだ。
6:26 Do all of you imagine to reprove words, and the speeches of one that is desperate, which are as wind?
6:27 あなたがたは、みなしごのためにくじをひき、／あなたがたの友をさえ売り買いするであろう。
6:27 Yea, all of you overwhelm the fatherless, and all of you dig a pit for your friend.
6:28 今、どうぞわたしを見られよ、／わたしはあなたがたの顔に向かって偽らない。
6:28 Now therefore be content, look upon me; for it is evident unto you if I lie.
6:29 どうぞ、思いなおせ、まちがってはならない。さらに思いなおせ、／わたしの義は、なおわたしのうちにある。
6:29 Return, I pray you, let it not be iniquity; yea, return again, my righteousness is in it.
6:30 わたしの舌に不義があるか。わたしの口は災を／わきまえることができぬであろうか。
6:30 Is there iniquity in my tongue? cannot my taste discern perverse things?
7:1 地上の人には、／激しい労務があるではないか。またその日は雇人の日のようではないか。
7:1 Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth? are not his days also like the days of a worker?
7:2 奴隷が夕暮を慕うように、／雇人がその賃銀を望むように、
7:2 As a servant earnestly desires the shadow, and as a worker looks for the reward of his work:
7:3 わたしは、むなしい月を持たせられ、／悩みの夜を与えられる。
7:3 So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me.
7:4 わたしは寝るときに言う、『いつ起きるだろうか』と。しかし夜は長く、暁までころびまわる。
7:4 When I lie down, I say, When shall I arise, and the night be gone? and I am full of tossings back and forth unto the dawning of the day.
7:5 わたしの肉はうじと土くれとをまとい、／わたしの皮は固まっては、またくずれる。
7:5 My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust; my skin is broken, and become loathsome.
7:6 わたしの日は機のひよりも速く、／望みをもたずに消え去る。
7:6 My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, and are spent without hope.
7:7 記憶せよ、わたしの命は息にすぎないことを。わたしの目は再び幸を見ることがない。
7:7 O remember that my life is wind: mine eye shall no more see good.
7:8 わたしを見る者の目は、／かさねてわたしを見ることがなく、／あなたがわたしに目を向けられても、／わたしはいない。
7:8 The eye of him that has seen me shall see me no more: yours eyes are upon me, and I am not.
7:9 雲が消えて、なくなるように、／陰府に下る者は上がって来ることがない。
7:9 As the cloud is consumed and vanishes away: so he that goes down to the grave shall come up no more.
7:10 彼は再びその家に帰らず、／彼の所も、もはや彼を認めない。
7:10 He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more.
7:11 それゆえ、わたしはわが口をおさえず、／わたしの霊のもだえによって語り、／わたしの魂の苦しさによって嘆く。
7:11 Therefore I will not refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.
7:12 わたしは海であるのか、龍であるのか、／あなたはわたしの上に見張りを置かれる。
7:12 Am I a sea, or a whale, that you set a watch over me?
7:13 『わたしの床はわたしを慰め、／わたしの寝床はわが嘆きを軽くする』と／わたしが言うとき、
7:13 When I say, My bed shall comfort me, my couch shall ease my complaints;
7:14 あなたは夢をもってわたしを驚かし、／幻をもってわたしを恐れさせられる。
7:14 Then you scare me with dreams, and terrify me through visions:
7:15 それゆえ、わたしは息の止まることを願い、／わが骨よりもむしろ死を選ぶ。
7:15 So that my soul chooses strangling, and death rather than my life.
7:16 わたしは命をいとう。わたしは長く生きることを望まない。わたしに構わないでください。わたしの日は息にすぎないのだから。
7:16 I loathe it; I would not live always: let me alone; for my days are vanity.
7:17 人は何者なので、あなたはこれを大きなものとし、／これにみ心をとめ、
7:17 What is man, that you should magnify him? and that you should set yours heart upon him?
7:18 朝ごとに、これを尋ね、／絶え間なく、これを試みられるのか。
7:18 And that you should visit him every morning, and try him every moment?
7:19 いつまで、あなたはわたしに目を離さず、／つばをのむまも、わたしを捨てておかれないのか。
7:19 How long will you not depart from me, nor let me alone till I swallow down my spittle?
7:20 人を監視される者よ、わたしが罪を犯したとて、／あなたに何をなしえようか。なにゆえ、わたしをあなたの的とし、／わたしをあなたの重荷とされるのか。
7:20 I have sinned; what shall I do unto you, O you preserver of men? why have you set me as a mark against you, so that I am a burden to myself?
7:21 なにゆえ、わたしのとがをゆるさず、／わたしの不義を除かれないのか。わたしはいま土の中に横たわる。あなたがわたしを尋ねられても、／わたしはいないでしょう」。
7:21 And why do you not pardon my transgression, and take away my iniquity? for now shall I sleep in the dust; and you shall seek me in the morning, but I shall not be.
8:1 時にシュヒびとビルダデが答えて言った、
8:1 Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,
8:2 「いつまであなたは、そのような事を言うのか。あなたの口の言葉は荒い風ではないか。
8:2 How long will you speak these things? and how long shall the words of your mouth be like a strong wind?
8:3 神は公義を曲げられるであろうか。全能者は正義を曲げられるであろうか。
8:3 Does God pervert judgment? or does the Almighty pervert justice?
8:4 あなたの子たちが彼に罪を犯したので、／彼らをそのとがの手に渡されたのだ。
8:4 If your children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression;
8:5 あなたがもし神に求め、全能者に祈るならば、
8:5 If you would seek unto God early, and make your supplication to the Almighty;
8:6 あなたがもし清く、正しくあるならば、／彼は必ずあなたのために立って、／あなたの正しいすみかを栄えさせられる。
8:6 If you were pure and upright; surely now he would awake for you, and make the habitation of your righteousness prosperous.
8:7 あなたの初めは小さくあっても、／あなたの終りは非常に大きくなるであろう。
8:7 Though your beginning was small, yet your latter end should greatly increase.
8:8 先の代の人に問うてみよ、／先祖たちの尋ねきわめた事を学べ。
8:8 For enquire, I pray you, of the former age, and prepare yourself to the search of their fathers:
8:9 われわれはただ、きのうからあった者で、／何も知らない、／われわれの世にある日は、影のようなものである。
8:9 (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:)
8:10 彼らはあなたに教え、あなたに語り、／その悟りから言葉を出さないであろうか。
8:10 Shall not they teach you, and tell you, and utter words out of their heart?
8:11 紙草は泥のない所に生長することができようか。葦は水のない所におい茂ることができようか。
8:11 Can the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water?
8:12 これはなお青くて、まだ刈られないのに、／すべての草に先だって枯れる。
8:12 Whilst it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down, it withers before any other herb.
8:13 すべて神を忘れる者の道はこのとおりだ。神を信じない者の望みは滅びる。
8:13 So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish:
8:14 その頼むところは断たれ、／その寄るところは、くもの巣のようだ。
8:14 Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web.
8:15 その家によりかかろうとすれば、家は立たず、／それにすがろうとしても、それは耐えない。
8:15 He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure.
8:16 彼は日の前に青々と茂り、／その若枝を園にはびこらせ、
8:16 He is green before the sun, and his branch shoots forth in his garden.
8:17 その根を石塚にからませ、／岩の間に生きていても、
8:17 His roots are wrapped about the heap, and sees the place of stones.
8:18 もしその所から取り除かれれば、／その所は彼を拒んで言うであろう、／『わたしはあなたを見たことがない』と。
8:18 If he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen you.
8:19 見よ、これこそ彼の道の喜びである、／そしてほかの者が地から生じるであろう。
8:19 Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow.
8:20 見よ、神は全き人を捨てられない。また悪を行う者の手を支持されない。
8:20 Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers:
8:21 彼は笑いをもってあなたの口を満たし、／喜びの声をもってあなたのくちびるを満たされる。
8:21 Till he fill your mouth with laughing, and your lips with rejoicing.
8:22 あなたを憎む者は恥を着せられ、／悪しき者の天幕はなくなる」。
8:22 They that hate you shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nothing.
9:1 ヨブは答えて言った、
9:1 Then Job answered and said,
9:2 「まことにわたしは、その事の／そのとおりであることを知っている。しかし人はどうして神の前に正しくありえようか。
9:2 I know it is so truthfully: but how should man be just with God?
9:3 よし彼と争おうとしても、／千に一つも答えることができない。
9:3 If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.
9:4 彼は心賢く、力強くあられる。だれが彼にむかい、おのれをかたくなにして、／栄えた者があるか。
9:4 He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who has hardened himself against him, and has prospered?
9:5 彼は、山を移されるが、山は知らない。彼は怒りをもって、これらをくつがえされる。
9:5 Which removes the mountains, and they know not: which overturns them in his anger.
9:6 彼が、地を震い動かしてその所を離れさせられると、／その柱はゆらぐ。
9:6 Which shakes the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.
9:7 彼が日に命じられると、日は出ない。彼はまた星を閉じこめられる。
9:7 Which commands the sun, and it rises not; and seals up the stars.
9:8 彼はただひとり天を張り、／海の波を踏まれた。
9:8 Which alone spreads out the heavens, and treads upon the waves of the sea.
9:9 彼は北斗、オリオン、／プレアデスおよび南の密室を造られた。
9:9 Which makes Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.
9:10 彼が大いなる事をされることは測りがたく、／不思議な事をされることは数知れない。
9:10 Which does great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number.
9:11 見よ、彼がわたしのかたわらを通られても、／わたしは彼を見ない。彼は進み行かれるが、わたしは彼を認めない。
9:11 Lo, he goes by me, and I see him not: he passes on also, but I perceive him not.
9:12 見よ、彼が奪い去られるのに、／だれが彼をはばむことができるか。だれが彼にむかって『あなたは何をするのか』と／言うことができるか。
9:12 Behold, he takes away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What do you?
9:13 神はその怒りをやめられない。ラハブを助ける者どもは彼のもとにかがんだ。
9:13 If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.
9:14 どうしてわたしは彼に答え、／言葉を選んで、彼と議論することができよう。
9:14 How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words to reason with him?
9:15 たといわたしは正しくても答えることができない。わたしを責められる者に／あわれみを請わなければならない。
9:15 Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer, but I would make supplication to my judge.
9:16 たといわたしが呼ばわり、／彼がわたしに答えられても、／わたしの声に耳を傾けられたとは信じない。
9:16 If I had called, and he had answered me; yet would I not believe that he had hearkened unto my voice.
9:17 彼は大風をもってわたしを撃ち砕き、／ゆえなく、わたしに多くの傷を負わせ、
9:17 For he breaks me with a tempest, and multiplies my wounds without cause.
9:18 わたしに息をつかせず、／苦い物をもってわたしを満たされる。
9:18 He will not suffer me to take my breath, but fills me with bitterness.
9:19 力の争いであるならば、彼を見よ、／さばきの事であるならば、／だれが彼を呼び出すことができよう。
9:19 If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead?
9:20 たといわたしは正しくても、／わたしの口はわたしを罪ある者とする。たといわたしは罪がなくても、／彼はわたしを曲った者とする。
9:20 If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.
9:21 わたしは罪がない、しかしわたしは自分を知らない。わたしは自分の命をいとう。
9:21 Though I were perfect, yet would I not know my soul: I would despise my life.
9:22 皆同一である。それゆえ、わたしは言う、／『彼は罪のない者と、悪しき者とを／共に滅ぼされるのだ』と。
9:22 This is one thing, therefore I said it, He destroys the perfect and the wicked.
9:23 災がにわかに人を殺すような事があると、／彼は罪のない者の苦難をあざ笑われる。
9:23 If the scourge slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.
9:24 世は悪人の手に渡されてある。彼はその裁判人の顔をおおわれる。もし彼でなければ、これはだれのしわざか。
9:24 The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covers the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he?
9:25 わたしの日は飛脚よりも速く、／飛び去って幸を見ない。
9:25 Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good.
9:26 これは走ること葦舟のごとく、／えじきに襲いかかる、わしのようだ。
9:26 They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle that hastes to the prey.
9:27 たといわたしは『わが嘆きを忘れ、／憂い顔をかえて元気よくなろう』と言っても、
9:27 If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort myself:
9:28 わたしはわがもろもろの苦しみを恐れる。あなたがわたしを罪なき者とされないことを／わたしは知っているからだ。
9:28 I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that you will not hold me innocent.
9:29 わたしは罪ある者とされている。どうして、いたずらに労する必要があるか。
9:29 If I be wicked, why then labour I in vain?
9:30 たといわたしは雪で身を洗い、／灰汁で手を清めても、
9:30 If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;
9:31 あなたはわたしを、みぞの中に投げ込まれるので、／わたしの着物も、わたしをいとうようになる。
9:31 Yet shall you plunge me in the ditch, and mine own clothes shall detest me.
9:32 神はわたしのように人ではないゆえ、／わたしは彼に答えることができない。われわれは共にさばきに臨むことができない。
9:32 For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment.
9:33 われわれの間には、／われわれふたりの上に手を置くべき仲裁者がない。
9:33 Neither is there any arbitrator between us, that might lay his hand upon us both.
9:34 どうか彼がそのつえをわたしから取り離し、／その怒りをもって、／わたしを恐れさせられないように。
9:34 Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me:
9:35 そうすれば、わたしは語って、／彼を恐れることはない。わたしはみずからそのような者ではないからだ。
9:35 Then would I speak, and not fear him; but it is not so with me.
10:1 わたしは自分の命をいとう。わたしは自分の嘆きを包まず言いあらわし、／わが魂の苦しみによって語ろう。
10:1 My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint upon myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.
10:2 わたしは神に申そう、／わたしを罪ある者とされないように。なぜわたしと争われるかを知らせてほしい。
10:2 I will say unto God, Do not condemn me; show me wherefore you contend with me.
10:3 あなたはしえたげをなし、み手のわざを捨て、／悪人の計画を照すことを良しとされるのか。
10:3 Is it good unto you that you should oppress, that you should despise the work of yours hands, and shine upon the counsel of the wicked?
10:4 あなたの持っておられるのは肉の目か、／あなたは人が見るように見られるのか。
10:4 Have you eyes of flesh? or see you as man sees?
10:5 あなたの日は人の日のごとく、／あなたの年は人の年のようであるのか。
10:5 Are your days as the days of man? are your years as man's days,
10:6 あなたはなにゆえわたしのとがを尋ね、／わたしの罪を調べられるのか。
10:6 That you enquire after mine iniquity, and search after my sin?
10:7 あなたはわたしの罪のないことを知っておられる。またあなたの手から救い出しうる者はない。
10:7 You know that I am not wicked; and there is none that can deliver out of yours hand.
10:8 あなたの手はわたしをかたどり、わたしを作った。ところが今あなたはかえって、わたしを滅ぼされる。
10:8 Yours hands have made me and fashioned me together round about; yet you do destroy me.
10:9 どうぞ覚えてください、／あなたは土くれをもってわたしを作られた事を。ところが、わたしをちりに返そうとされるのか。
10:9 Remember, I plead to you, that you have made me as the clay; and will you bring me into dust again?
10:10 あなたはわたしを乳のように注ぎ、／乾酪のように凝り固まらせたではないか。
10:10 Have you not poured me out as milk, and curdled me like cheese?
10:11 あなたは肉と皮とをわたしに着せ、／骨と筋とをもってわたしを編み、
10:11 You have clothed me with skin and flesh, and have fenced me with bones and sinews.
10:12 命といつくしみとをわたしに授け、／わたしを顧みてわが霊を守られた。
10:12 You have granted me life and favour, and your visitation has preserved my spirit.
10:13 しかしあなたはこれらの事をみ心に秘めおかれた。この事があなたの心のうちにあった事を／わたしは知っている。
10:13 And these things have you hid in yours heart: I know that this is with you.
10:14 わたしがもし罪を犯せば、／あなたはわたしに目をつけて、／わたしを罪から解き放されない。
10:14 If I sin, then you mark me, and you will not acquit me from mine iniquity.
10:15 わたしがもし悪ければわたしはわざわいだ。たといわたしが正しくても、／わたしは頭を上げることができない。わたしは恥に満ち、悩みを見ているからだ。
10:15 If I be wicked, woe unto me; and if I be righteous, yet will I not lift up my head. I am full of confusion; therefore see you mine affliction;
10:16 もし頭をあげれば、／あなたは、ししのようにわたしを追い、／わたしにむかって再びくすしき力をあらわされる。
10:16 For it increases. You hunt me as a fierce lion: and again you show yourself marvellous upon me.
10:17 あなたは証人を入れ替えてわたしを攻め、／わたしにむかってあなたの怒りを増し、／新たに軍勢を出してわたしを攻められる。
10:17 You renew your witnesses against me, and increase yours indignation upon me; changes and war are against me.
10:18 なにゆえあなたはわたしを胎から出されたか、／わたしは息絶えて目に見られることなく、
10:18 Wherefore then have you brought me forth out of the womb? Oh that I had given up the spirit, and no eye had seen me!
10:19 胎から墓に運ばれて、／初めからなかった者のようであったなら、／よかったのに。
10:19 I should have been as though I had not been; I should have been carried from the womb to the grave.
10:20 わたしの命の日はいくばくもないではないか。どうぞ、しばしわたしを離れて、／少しく慰めを得させられるように。
10:20 Are not my days few? cease then, and let me alone, that I may take comfort a little,
10:21 わたしが行って、帰ることのないその前に、／これを得させられるように。わたしは暗き地、暗黒の地へ行く。
10:21 Before I go whence I shall not return, even to the land of darkness and the shadow of death;
10:22 これは暗き地で、やみにひとしく、／暗黒で秩序なく、光もやみのようだ」。
10:22 A land of darkness, as darkness itself; and of the shadow of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness.
11:1 そこでナアマびとゾパルは答えて言った、
11:1 Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,
11:2 「言葉が多ければ、答なしにすまされるだろうか。口の達者な人は義とされるだろうか。
11:2 Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?
11:3 あなたのむなしい言葉は人を沈黙させるだろうか。あなたがあざけるとき、／人はあなたを恥じさせないだろうか。
11:3 Should your lies make men hold their peace? and when you mock, shall no man make you ashamed?
11:4 あなたは言う、『わたしの教は正しい、／わたしは神の目に潔い』と。
11:4 For you have said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in yours eyes.
11:5 どうぞ神が言葉を出し、／あなたにむかってくちびるを開き、
11:5 But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against you;
11:6 知恵の秘密をあなたに示されるように。神はさまざまの知識をもたれるからである。それであなたは知るがよい、神はあなたの罪よりも／軽くあなたを罰せられることを。
11:6 And that he would show you the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacts of you less than yours iniquity deserves.
11:7 あなたは神の深い事を窮めることができるか。全能者の限界を窮めることができるか。
11:7 Can you by searching find out God? can you find out the Almighty unto perfection?
11:8 それは天よりも高い、あなたは何をなしうるか。それは陰府よりも深い、あなたは何を知りうるか。
11:8 It is as high as heaven; what can you do? deeper than hell; what can you know?
11:9 その量は地よりも長く、海よりも広い。
11:9 The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.
11:10 彼がもし行きめぐって人を捕え、／さばきに召し集められるとき、／だれが彼をはばむことができよう。
11:10 If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him?
11:11 彼は卑しい人間を知っておられるからだ。彼は不義を見る時、／これに心をとめられぬであろうか。
11:11 For he knows vain men: he sees wickedness also; will he not then consider it?
11:12 しかし野ろばの子が人として生れるとき、／愚かな者も悟りを得るであろう。
11:12 For vain men would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass's colt.
11:13 もしあなたが心を正しくするならば、／神に向かって手を伸べるであろう。
11:13 If you prepare yours heart, and stretch out yours hands toward him;
11:14 もしあなたの手に不義があるなら、それを遠く去れ、／あなたの天幕に悪を住まわせてはならない。
11:14 If iniquity be in yours hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in your tabernacles.
11:15 そうすれば、あなたは恥じることなく／顔をあげることができ、／堅く立って、恐れることはない。
11:15 For then shall you lift up your face without spot; yea, you shall be steadfast, and shall not fear:
11:16 あなたは苦しみを忘れ、／あなたのこれを覚えることは、／流れ去った水のようになる。
11:16 Because you shall forget your misery, and remember it as waters that pass away:
11:17 そしてあなたの命は真昼よりも光り輝き、／たとい暗くても朝のようになる。
11:17 And yours age shall be clearer than the noonday: you shall shine forth, you shall be as the morning.
11:18 あなたは望みがあるゆえに安んじ、／保護されて安らかにいこうことができる。
11:18 And you shall be secure, because there is hope; yea, you shall dig about you, and you shall take your rest in safety.
11:19 あなたは伏してやすみ、／あなたを恐れさせるものはない。多くの者はあなたの好意を求めるであろう。
11:19 Also you shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto you.
11:20 しかし悪しき者の目は衰える。彼らは逃げ場を失い、／その望みは息の絶えるにひとしい」。
11:20 But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the spirit.
12:1 そこでヨブは答えて言った、
12:1 And Job answered and said,
12:2 「まことに、あなたがたのみ、人である、／知恵はあなたがたと共に死ぬであろう。
12:2 No doubt but all of you are the people, and wisdom shall die with you.
12:3 しかしわたしも、あなたがたと同様に悟りをもつ。わたしはあなたがたに劣らない。だれがこのような事を知らないだろうか。
12:3 But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: yea, who knows not such things as these?
12:4 わたしは神に呼ばわって、聞かれた者であるのに、／その友の物笑いとなっている。正しく全き人は物笑いとなる。
12:4 I am as one mocked of his neighbour, who calls upon God, and he answers him: the just upright man is laughed to scorn.
12:5 安らかな者の思いには、／不幸な者に対する侮りがあって、／足のすべる者を待っている。
12:5 He that is ready to slip with his feet is as a lamp despised in the thought of him that is at ease.
12:6 かすめ奪う者の天幕は栄え、／神を怒らす者は安らかである。自分の手に神を携えている者も同様だ。
12:6 The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God brings abundantly.
12:7 しかし獣に問うてみよ、／それはあなたに教える。空の鳥に問うてみよ、／それはあなたに告げる。
12:7 But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach you; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell you:
12:8 あるいは地の草や木に問うてみよ、／彼らはあなたに教える。海の魚もまたあなたに示す。
12:8 Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach you: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto you.
12:9 これらすべてのもののうち、いずれか／主の手がこれをなしたことを知らぬ者があろうか。
12:9 Who knows not in all these that the hand of the LORD has wrought this?
12:10 すべての生き物の命、／およびすべての人の息は彼の手のうちにある。
12:10 In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.
12:11 口が食物を味わうように、／耳は言葉をわきまえないであろうか。
12:11 Does not the ear try words? and the mouth taste his food?
12:12 老いた者には知恵があり、／命の長い者には悟りがある。
12:12 With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.
12:13 知恵と力は神と共にあり、／深慮と悟りも彼のものである。
12:13 With him is wisdom and strength, he has counsel and understanding.
12:14 彼が破壊すれば、再び建てることができない。彼が人を閉じ込めれば、開き出すことができない。
12:14 Behold, he breaks down, and it cannot be built again: he shuts up a man, and there can be no opening.
12:15 彼が水を止めれば、それはかれ、／彼が水を出せば、地をくつがえす。
12:15 Behold, he withholds the waters, and they dry up: also he sends them out, and they overturn the earth.
12:16 力と深き知恵は彼と共にあり、／惑わされる者も惑わす者も彼のものである。
12:16 With him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his.
12:17 彼は議士たちを裸にして連れ行き、／さばきびとらを愚かにし、
12:17 He leads counsellors away spoiled, and makes the judges fools.
12:18 王たちのきずなを解き、／彼らの腰に腰帯を巻き、
12:18 He looses the bond of kings, and girds their loins with a girdle.
12:19 祭司たちを裸にして連れ行き、／力ある者を滅ぼし、
12:19 He leads princes away spoiled, and overthrows the mighty.
12:20 みずから頼む者たちの言葉を奪い、／長老たちの分別を取り去り、
12:20 He removes away the speech of the trusty, and takes away the understanding of the aged.
12:21 君たちの上に侮りを注ぎ、／強い者たちの帯を解き、
12:21 He pours contempt upon princes, and weakens the strength of the mighty.
12:22 暗やみの中から隠れた事どもをあらわし、／暗黒を光に引き出し、
12:22 He discovers deep things out of darkness, and brings out to light the shadow of death.
12:23 国々を大きくし、またこれを滅ぼし、／国々を広くし、また捕え行き、
12:23 He increases the nations, and destroys them: he enlarges the nations, and straitens them again.
12:24 地の民の長たちの悟りを奪い、／彼らを道なき荒野にさまよわせ、
12:24 He takes away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, and causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.
12:25 光なき暗やみに手探りさせ、／酔うた者のようによろめかせる。
12:25 They grope in the dark without light, and he makes them to stagger like a drunken man.
13:1 見よ、わたしの目は、／これをことごとく見た。わたしの耳はこれを聞いて悟った。
13:1 Lo, mine eye has seen all this, mine ear has heard and understood it.
13:2 あなたがたの知っている事は、わたしも知っている。わたしはあなたがたに劣らない。
13:2 What all of you know, the same do I know also: I am not inferior unto you.
13:3 しかしわたしは全能者に物を言おう、／わたしは神と論ずることを望む。
13:3 Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God.
13:4 あなたがたは偽りをもってうわべを繕う者、／皆、無用の医師だ。
13:4 But all of you are forgers of lies, all of you are all physicians of no value.
13:5 どうか、あなたがたは全く沈黙するように。これがあなたがたの知恵であろう。
13:5 O that all of you would altogether hold your peace! and it should be your wisdom.
13:6 今、わたしの論ずることを聞くがよい。わたしの口で言い争うことに耳を傾けるがよい。
13:6 Hear now my reasoning, and hearken to the pleadings of my lips.
13:7 あなたがたは神のために不義を言おうとするのか。また彼のために偽りを述べるのか。
13:7 Will all of you speak wickedly for God? and talk deceitfully for him?
13:8 あなたがたは彼にひいきしようとするのか。神のために争おうとするのか。
13:8 Will all of you accept his person? will all of you contend for God?
13:9 神があなたがたを調べられるとき、／あなたがたは無事だろうか。あなたがたは人を欺くように／彼を欺くことができるか。
13:9 Is it good that he should search you out? or as one man mocks another, do all of you so mock him?
13:10 あなたがたがもし、ひそかにひいきするならば、／彼は必ずあなたがたを責められる。
13:10 He will surely reprove you, if all of you do secretly accept persons.
13:11 その威厳はあなたがたを恐れさせないであろうか。彼をおそれる恐れがあなたがたに／臨まないであろうか。
13:11 Shall not his excellency make you afraid? and his dread fall upon you?
13:12 あなたがたの格言は灰のことわざだ。あなたがたの盾は土の盾だ。
13:12 Your remembrances are like unto ashes, your bodies to bodies of clay.
13:13 黙して、わたしにかかわるな、わたしは話そう。何事でもわたしに来るなら、来るがよい。
13:13 Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me what will.
13:14 わたしはわが肉をわが歯に取り、／わが命をわが手のうちに置く。
13:14 Wherefore do I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in mine hand?
13:15 見よ、彼はわたしを殺すであろう。わたしは絶望だ。しかしなおわたしはわたしの道を／彼の前に守り抜こう。
13:15 Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.
13:16 これこそわたしの救となる。神を信じない者は、／神の前に出ることができないからだ。
13:16 He also shall be my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him.
13:17 あなたがたはよくわたしの言葉を聞き、／わたしの述べる所を耳に入れよ。
13:17 Hear diligently my speech, and my declaration with your ears.
13:18 見よ、わたしはすでにわたしの立ち場を言い並べた。わたしは義とされることをみずから知っている。
13:18 Behold now, I have ordered my cause; I know that I shall be justified.
13:19 だれかわたしと言い争う事のできる者があろうか。もしあるならば、わたしは黙して死ぬであろう。
13:19 Who is he that will plead with me? for now, if I hold my tongue, I shall give up the spirit.
13:20 ただわたしに二つの事を許してください。そうすれば、わたしはあなたの顔をさけて／隠れることはないでしょう。
13:20 Only do not two things unto me: then will I not hide myself from you.
13:21 あなたの手をわたしから離してください。あなたの恐るべき事をもって／わたしを恐れさせないでください。
13:21 Withdraw yours hand far from me: and let not your dread make me afraid.
13:22 そしてお呼びください、わたしは答えます。わたしに物を言わせて、／あなたご自身、わたしにお答えください。
13:22 Then call you, and I will answer: or let me speak, and answer you me.
13:23 わたしのよこしまと、わたしの罪がどれほどあるか。わたしのとがと罪とをわたしに知らせてください。
13:23 How many are mine iniquities and sins? make me to know my transgression and my sin.
13:24 なにゆえ、あなたはみ顔をかくし、／わたしをあなたの敵とされるのか。
13:24 Wherefore hide you your face, and hold me for yours enemy?
13:25 あなたは吹き回される木の葉をおどし、／干あがったもみがらを追われるのか。
13:25 Will you break a leaf driven back and forth? and will you pursue the dry stubble?
13:26 あなたはわたしについて苦き事どもを書きしるし、／わたしに若い時の罪を継がせ、
13:26 For you write bitter things against me, and make me to possess the iniquities of my youth.
13:27 わたしの足を足かせにはめ、／わたしのすべての道をうかがい、／わたしの足の周囲に限りをつけられる。
13:27 You put my feet also in the stocks, and look narrowly unto all my paths; you set a print upon the heels of my feet.
13:28 このような人は腐れた物のように朽ち果て、／虫に食われた衣服のようにすたれる。
13:28 And he, as a rotten thing, consumes, as a garment that is moth eaten.
14:1 女から生れる人は／日が短く、悩みに満ちている。
14:1 Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble.
14:2 彼は花のように咲き出て枯れ、／影のように飛び去って、とどまらない。
14:2 He comes forth like a flower, and is cut down: he flees also as a shadow, and continues not.
14:3 あなたはこのような者にさえ目を開き、／あなたの前に引き出して、さばかれるであろうか。
14:3 And does you open yours eyes upon such an one, and bring me into judgment with you?
14:4 だれが汚れたもののうちから清いものを／出すことができようか、ひとりもない。
14:4 Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.
14:5 その日は定められ、／その月の数もあなたと共にあり、／あなたがその限りを定めて、／越えることのできないようにされたのだから、
14:5 Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with you, you have appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;
14:6 彼から目をはなし、手をひいてください。そうすれば彼は雇人のように、／その日を楽しむことができるでしょう。
14:6 Turn from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as a worker, his day.
14:7 木には望みがある。たとい切られてもまた芽をだし、／その若枝は絶えることがない。
14:7 For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.
14:8 たといその根が地の中に老い、／その幹が土の中に枯れても、
14:8 Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;
14:9 なお水の潤いにあえば芽をふき、／若木のように枝を出す。
14:9 Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.
14:10 しかし人は死ねば消えうせる。息が絶えれば、どこにおるか。
14:10 But man dies, and wastes away: yea, man gives up the spirit, and where is he?
14:11 水が湖から消え、／川がかれて、かわくように、
14:11 As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decays and dries up:
14:12 人は伏して寝、また起きず、／天のつきるまで、目ざめず、／その眠りからさまされない。
14:12 So man lies down, and rises not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.
14:13 どうぞ、わたしを陰府にかくし、／あなたの怒りのやむまで、潜ませ、／わたしのために時を定めて、／わたしを覚えてください。
14:13 O that you would hide me in the grave, that you would keep me secret, until your wrath be past, that you would appoint me a set time, and remember me!
14:14 人がもし死ねば、また生きるでしょうか。わたしはわが服役の諸日の間、／わが解放の来るまで待つでしょう。
14:14 If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.
14:15 あなたがお呼びになるとき、／わたしは答えるでしょう。あなたはみ手のわざを顧みられるでしょう。
14:15 You shall call, and I will answer you: you will have a desire to the work of yours hands.
14:16 その時あなたはわたしの歩みを数え、／わたしの罪を見のがされるでしょう。
14:16 For now you number my steps: do you not watch over my sin?
14:17 わたしのとがは袋の中に封じられ、／あなたはわたしの罪を塗りかくされるでしょう。
14:17 My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and you sew up mine iniquity.
14:18 しかし山は倒れてくずれ、／岩もその所から移される。
14:18 And surely the mountains falling comes to nothing, and the rock is removed out of his place.
14:19 水は石をうがち、／大水は地のちりを洗い去る。このようにあなたは人の望みを断たれる。
14:19 The waters wear the stones: you wash away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and you destroys the hope of man.
14:20 あなたはながく彼に勝って、彼を去り行かせ、／彼の顔かたちを変らせて追いやられる。
14:20 You prevail for ever against him, and he passes: you change his countenance, and send him away.
14:21 彼の子らは尊くなっても、彼はそれを知らない、／卑しくなっても、それを悟らない。
14:21 His sons come to honour, and he knows it not; and they are brought low, but he perceives it not of them.
14:22 ただおのが身に痛みを覚え、／おのれのために嘆くのみである」。
14:22 But his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn.
15:1 そこでテマンびとエリパズは答えて言った、
15:1 Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,
15:2 「知者はむなしき知識をもって答えるであろうか。東風をもってその腹を満たすであろうか。
15:2 Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?
15:3 役に立たない談話をもって論じるであろうか。無益な言葉をもって争うであろうか。
15:3 Should he reason with useless talk? or with speeches wherewith he can do no good?
15:4 ところがあなたは神を恐れることを捨て、／神の前に祈る事をやめている。
15:4 Yea, you cast off fear, and restrain prayer before God.
15:5 あなたの罪はあなたの口を教え、／あなたは悪賢い人の舌を選び用いる。
15:5 For your mouth utters yours iniquity, and you choose the tongue of the crafty.
15:6 あなたの口みずからあなたの罪を定める、／わたしではない。あなたのくちびるがあなたに逆らって証明する。
15:6 Yours own mouth condemns you, and not I: yea, yours own lips testify against you.
15:7 あなたは最初に生れた人であるのか。山よりも先に生れたのか。
15:7 Are you the first man that was born? or were you made before the hills?
15:8 あなたは神の会議にあずかったのか。あなたは知恵を独占しているのか。
15:8 Have you heard the secret of God? and do you restrain wisdom to yourself?
15:9 あなたが知るものは／われわれも知るではないか。あなたが悟るものは／われわれも悟るではないか。
15:9 What know you, that we know not? what understand you, which is not in us?
15:10 われわれの中にはしらがの人も、／年老いた人もあって、／あなたの父よりも年上だ。
15:10 With us are both the grayheaded and very aged men, much elder than your father.
15:11 神の慰めおよびあなたに対するやさしい言葉も、／あなたにとって、あまりに小さいというのか。
15:11 Are the consolations of God small with you? is there any secret thing with you?
15:12 どうしてあなたの心は狂うのか。どうしてあなたの目はしばたたくのか。
15:12 Why does yours heart carry you away? and what do your eyes overlook,
15:13 あなたが神にむかって気をいらだて、／このような言葉をあなたの口から出すのはなぜか。
15:13 That you turn your spirit against God, and let such words go out of your mouth?
15:14 人はいかなる者か、どうしてこれは清くありえよう。女から生れた者は、どうして正しくありえよう。
15:14 What is man, that he should be clean? and he which is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
15:15 見よ、神はその聖なる者にすら信を置かれない、／もろもろの天も彼の目には清くない。
15:15 Behold, he puts no trust in his saints; yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight.
15:16 まして憎むべき汚れた者、／また不義を水のように飲む人においては。
15:16 How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinks iniquity like water?
15:17 わたしはあなたに語ろう、聞くがよい。わたしは自分の見た事を述べよう。
15:17 I will show you, hear me; and that which I have seen I will declare;
15:18 これは知者たちがその先祖からうけて、／隠す所なく語り伝えたものである。
15:18 Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid it:
15:19 彼らにのみこの地は授けられて、／他国人はその中に行き来したことがなかった。
15:19 Unto whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.
15:20 悪しき人は一生の間、もだえ苦しむ。残酷な人には年の数が定められている。
15:20 The wicked man labors with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor.
15:21 その耳には恐ろしい音が聞え、／繁栄の時にも滅ぼす者が彼に臨む。
15:21 A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.
15:22 彼は、暗やみから帰りうるとは信ぜず、／つるぎにねらわれる。
15:22 He believes not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword.
15:23 彼は食物はどこにあるかと言いつつさまよい、／暗き日が手近に備えられてあるのを知る。
15:23 He wanders abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? he knows that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
15:24 悩みと苦しみとが彼を恐れさせ、／戦いの備えをした王のように彼に打ち勝つ。
15:24 Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.
15:25 これは彼が神に逆らってその手を伸べ、／全能者に逆らって高慢にふるまい、
15:25 For he stretches out his hand against God, and strengthens himself against the Almighty.
15:26 盾の厚い面をもって強情に、／彼にはせ向かうからだ。
15:26 He runs upon him, even on his neck, upon the thick bosses of his bucklers:
15:27 また彼は脂肪をもってその顔をおおい、／その腰には脂肪の肉を集め、
15:27 Because he covers his face with his fatness, and makes fatness on his flanks.
15:28 滅ぼされた町々に住み、／人の住まない家、荒塚となる所におるからだ。
15:28 And he dwells in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabits, which are ready to become heaps.
15:29 彼は富める者とならず、その富はながく続かない、／また地に根を張ることはない。
15:29 He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection thereof upon the earth.
15:30 彼は暗やみからのがれることができない。炎はその若枝を枯らし、／その花は風に吹き去られる。
15:30 He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.
15:31 彼をしてみずから欺いて、／むなしい事にたよらせてはならない。その報いはむなしいからだ。
15:31 Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompence.
15:32 彼の時のこない前にその事がなし遂げられ、／彼の枝は緑とならないであろう。
15:32 It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green.
15:33 彼はぶどうの木のように、／その熟さない実をふり落すであろう。またオリブの木のように、その花を落すであろう。
15:33 He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive.
15:34 神を信じない者のやからは子なく、／まいないによる天幕は火で焼き滅ぼされるからだ。
15:34 For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.
15:35 彼らは害悪をはらみ、不義を生み、／その腹は偽りをつくる」。
15:35 They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their belly prepares deceit.
16:1 そこでヨブは答えて言った、
16:1 Then Job answered and said,
16:2 「わたしはこのような事を数多く聞いた。あなたがたは皆人を慰めようとして、／かえって人を煩わす者だ。
16:2 I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are all of you all.
16:3 むなしき言葉に、はてしがあろうか。あなたは何に激して答をするのか。
16:3 Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldens you that you answer?
16:4 わたしもあなたがたのように語ることができる。もしあなたがたがわたしと代ったならば、／わたしは言葉を練って、あなたがたを攻め、／あなたがたに向かって頭を振ることができる。
16:4 I also could speak as all of you do: if your soul were in my soul's position, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you.
16:5 また口をもって、あなたがたを強くし、／くちびるの慰めをもって、あなたがたの苦しみを／和らげることができる。
16:5 But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should subside your grief.
16:6 たといわたしは語っても、／わたしの苦しみは和らげられない。たといわたしは忍んでも、／どれほどそれがわたしを去るであろうか。
16:6 Though I speak, my grief is not subsided: and though I forbear, what am I eased?
16:7 まことに神は今わたしを疲れさせた。彼はわたしのやからをことごとく荒した。
16:7 But now he has made me weary: you have made desolate all my company.
16:8 彼はわたしを、しわ寄らせた。これがわたしに対する証拠である。またわたしのやせ衰えた姿が立って、わたしを攻め、／わたしの顔にむかって証明する。
16:8 And you have filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me bears witness to my face.
16:9 彼は怒ってわたしをかき裂き、わたしを憎み、／わたしに向かって歯をかみ鳴らした。わたしの敵は目を鋭くして、わたしを攻める。
16:9 He tears me in his wrath, who hates me: he gnashes upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpens his eyes upon me.
16:10 人々はわたしに向かって口を張り、／侮ってわたしのほおを打ち、／ともに集まってわたしを攻める。
16:10 They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.
16:11 神はわたしをよこしまな者に渡し、／悪人の手に投げいれられる。
16:11 God has delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.
16:12 わたしは安らかであったのに、／彼はわたしを切り裂き、／首を捕えて、わたしを打ち砕き、／わたしを立てて的とされた。
16:12 I was at ease, but he has broken me asunder: he has also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark.
16:13 その射手はわたしを囲む。彼は無慈悲にもわたしの腰を射通し、／わたしの肝を地に流れ出させられる。
16:13 His archers compass me round about, he cleaves my reins asunder, and does not spare; he pours out my gall upon the ground.
16:14 彼はわたしを打ち破って、破れに破れを加え、／勇士のようにわたしに、はせかかられる。
16:14 He breaks me with breach upon breach, he runs upon me like a giant.
16:15 わたしは荒布を膚に縫いつけ、／わたしの角をちりに伏せた。
16:15 I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and defiled my horn in the dust.
16:16 わたしの顔は泣いて赤くなり、／わたしのまぶたには深いやみがある。
16:16 My face is foul with weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death;
16:17 しかし、わたしの手には暴虐がなく、／わたしの祈は清い。
16:17 Not for any injustice in mine hands: also my prayer is pure.
16:18 地よ、わたしの血をおおってくれるな。わたしの叫びに、休む所を得させるな。
16:18 O earth, cover not you my blood, and let my cry have no place.
16:19 見よ、今でもわたしの証人は天にある。わたしのために保証してくれる者は高い所にある。
16:19 Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high.
16:20 わたしの友はわたしをあざける、／しかしわたしの目は神に向かって涙を注ぐ。
16:20 My friends scorn me: but mine eye pours out tears unto God.
16:21 どうか彼が人のために神と弁論し、／人とその友との間をさばいてくれるように。
16:21 O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleads for his neighbour!
16:22 数年過ぎ去れば、／わたしは帰らぬ旅路に行くであろう。
16:22 When a few years are come, then I shall go the way whence I shall not return.
17:1 わが霊は破れ、わが日は尽き、／墓はわたしを待っている。
17:1 My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves are ready for me.
17:2 まことにあざける者どもはわたしのまわりにあり、／わが目は常に彼らの侮りを見る。
17:2 Are there not mockers with me? and does not mine eye continue in their provocation?
17:3 どうか、あなた自ら保証となられるように。ほかにだれがわたしのために／保証となってくれる者があろうか。
17:3 Lay down now, put me in a guarantor with you; who is he that will shake hands with me?
17:4 あなたは彼らの心を閉じて、／悟ることのないようにされた。それゆえ、彼らに勝利を得させられるはずはない。
17:4 For you have hid their heart from understanding: therefore shall you not exalt them.
17:5 分け前を得るために友を訴えるものは、／その子らの目がつぶれるであろう。
17:5 He that speaks flattery to his friends, even the eyes of his children shall fail.
17:6 彼はわたしを民の笑い草とされた。わたしは顔につばきされる者となる。
17:6 He has made me also a byword of the people; and in old times I was as a timbrel.
17:7 わが目は憂いによってかすみ、／わがからだはすべて影のようだ。
17:7 Mine eye also is dim by reason of sorrow, and all my members are as a shadow.
17:8 正しい者はこれに驚き、／罪なき者は神を信ぜぬ者に対して憤る。
17:8 Upright men shall be astonished at this, and the innocent shall stir up himself against the hypocrite.
17:9 それでもなお正しい者はその道を堅く保ち、／潔い手をもつ者はますます力を得る。
17:9 The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that has clean hands shall be stronger and stronger.
17:10 しかし、あなたがたは皆再び来るがよい、／わたしはあなたがたのうちに賢い者を見ないのだ。
17:10 But as for you all, do all of you return, and come now: for I cannot find one wise man among you.
17:11 わが日は過ぎ去り、わが計りごとは敗れ、／わが心の願いも敗れた。
17:11 My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart.
17:12 彼らは夜を昼に変える。彼らは言う、『光が暗やみに近づいている』と。
17:12 They change the night into day: the light is short because of darkness.
17:13 わたしがもし陰府をわたしの家として望み、／暗やみに寝床をのべ、
17:13 If I wait, the grave is mine house: I have made my bed in the darkness.
17:14 穴に向かって『あなたはわたしの父である』と言い、／うじに向かって『あなたはわたしの母、／わたしの姉妹である』と言うならば、
17:14 I have said to corruption, You are my father: to the worm, You are my mother, and my sister.
17:15 わたしの望みはどこにあるか、／だれがわたしの望みを見ることができようか。
17:15 And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?
17:16 これは下って陰府の関門にいたり、／われわれは共にちりに下るであろうか」。
17:16 They shall go down to the bars of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.
18:1 そこでシュヒびとビルダデは答えて言った、
18:1 Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,
18:2 「あなたはいつまで言葉にわなを設けるのか。あなたはまず悟るがよい、／それからわれわれは論じよう。
18:2 How long will it be before all of you make an end of words? mark, and afterwards we will speak.
18:3 なぜ、われわれは獣のように思われるのか。なぜ、あなたの目に愚かな者と見えるのか。
18:3 Wherefore are we counted as beasts, and reputed vile in your sight?
18:4 怒っておのが身を裂く者よ、／あなたのために地は捨てられるだろうか。岩はその所から移されるだろうか。
18:4 He tears himself in his anger: shall the earth be forsaken for you? and shall the rock be removed out of his place?
18:5 悪しき者の光は消え、／その火の炎は光を放たず、
18:5 Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.
18:6 その天幕のうちの光は暗く、／彼の上のともしびは消える。
18:6 The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.
18:7 その力ある歩みはせばめられ、／その計りごとは彼を倒す。
18:7 The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down.
18:8 彼は自分の足で網にかかり、／また落し穴の上を歩む。
18:8 For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walks upon a snare.
18:9 わなは彼のかかとを捕え、／網わなは彼を捕える。
18:9 The animal trap shall take him by the heel, and the robber shall prevail against him.
18:10 輪なわは彼を捕えるために地に隠され、／張り網は彼を捕えるために道に設けられる。
18:10 The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way.
18:11 恐ろしい事が四方にあって彼を恐れさせ、／その歩みにしたがって彼を追う。
18:11 Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet.
18:12 その力は飢え、／災は彼をつまずかすために備わっている。
18:12 His strength shall be famished, and destruction shall be ready at his side.
18:13 その皮膚は病によって食いつくされ、／死のういごは彼の手足を食いつくす。
18:13 It shall devour the strength of his skin: even the firstborn of death shall devour his strength.
18:14 彼はその頼む所の天幕から引き離されて、／恐れの王のもとに追いやられる。
18:14 His confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors.
18:15 彼に属さない者が彼の天幕に住み、／硫黄が彼のすまいの上にまき散らされる。
18:15 It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because it is none of his: brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation.
18:16 下ではその根が枯れ、／上ではその枝が切られる。
18:16 His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off.
18:17 彼の形見は地から滅び、／彼の名はちまたに消える。
18:17 His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street.
18:18 彼は光からやみに追いやられ、／世の中から追い出される。
18:18 He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.
18:19 彼はその民の中に子もなく、孫もなく、／彼のすみかには、ひとりも生き残る者はない。
18:19 He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.
18:20 西の者は彼の日について驚き、／東の者はおじ恐れる。
18:20 They that come after him shall be astonished at his day, as they that went before were affrighted.
18:21 まことに、悪しき者のすまいはこのようであり、／神を知らない者の所はこのようである」。
18:21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knows not God.
19:1 そこでヨブは答えて言った、
19:1 Then Job answered and said,
19:2 「あなたがたはいつまでわたしを悩まし、／言葉をもってわたしを打ち砕くのか。
19:2 How long will all of you vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words?
19:3 あなたがたはすでに十度もわたしをはずかしめ、／わたしを悪くあしらってもなお恥じないのか。
19:3 These ten times have all of you reproached me: all of you are not ashamed that all of you make yourselves strange to me.
19:4 たといわたしが、まことにあやまったとしても、／そのあやまちは、わたし自身にとどまる。
19:4 And be it indeed that I have erred, mine error remains with myself.
19:5 もしあなたがたが、／まことにわたしに向かって高ぶり、／わたしの恥を論じるならば、
19:5 If indeed all of you will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach:
19:6 『神がわたしをしえたげ、／その網でわたしを囲まれたのだ』と知るべきだ。
19:6 Know now that God has overthrown me, and has compassed me with his net.
19:7 見よ、わたしが『暴虐』と叫んでも答えられず、／助けを呼び求めても、さばきはない。
19:7 Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard: I cry aloud, but there is no judgment.
19:8 彼はわたしの道にかきをめぐらして、／越えることのできないようにし、／わたしの行く道に暗やみを置かれた。
19:8 He has fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he has set darkness in my paths.
19:9 彼はわたしの栄えをわたしからはぎ取り、／わたしのこうべから冠を奪い、
19:9 He has stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head.
19:10 四方からわたしを取りこわして、うせさせ、／わたしの望みを木のように抜き去り、
19:10 He has destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and mine hope has he removed like a tree.
19:11 わたしに向かって怒りを燃やし、／わたしを敵のひとりのように思われた。
19:11 He has also kindled his wrath against me, and he counts me unto him as one of his enemies.
19:12 その軍勢がいっせいに来て、／塁を築いて攻め寄せ、／わたしの天幕のまわりに陣を張った。
19:12 His troops come together, and raise up their way against me, and camp round about my tabernacle.
19:13 彼はわたしの兄弟たちを／わたしから遠く離れさせられた。わたしを知る人々は全くわたしに疎遠になった。
19:13 He has put my brethren far from me, and mine acquaintance are verily cut off from me.
19:14 わたしの親類および親しい友はわたしを見捨て、
19:14 My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me.
19:15 わたしの家に宿る者はわたしを忘れ、／わたしのはしためらはわたしを他人のように思い、／わたしは彼らの目に他国人となった。
19:15 They that dwell in mine house, and my maids, count me for a stranger: I am an foreigner in their sight.
19:16 わたしがしもべを呼んでも、彼は答えず、／わたしは口をもって彼に請わなければならない。
19:16 I called my servant, and he gave me no answer; I implored him with my mouth.
19:17 わたしの息はわが妻にいとわれ、／わたしは同じ腹の子たちにきらわれる。
19:17 My breath is strange to my wife, though I implored for the children's sake of mine own body.
19:18 わらべたちさえもわたしを侮り、／わたしが起き上がれば、わたしをあざける。
19:18 Yea, young children despised me; I arose, and they spoke against me.
19:19 親しい人々は皆わたしをいみきらい、／わたしの愛した人々はわたしにそむいた。
19:19 All my inward friends abhorred me: and they whom I loved are turned against me.
19:20 わたしの骨は皮と肉につき、／わたしはわずかに歯の皮をもってのがれた。
19:20 My bone cleaves to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth.
19:21 わが友よ、わたしをあわれめ、わたしをあわれめ、／神のみ手がわたしを打ったからである。
19:21 Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O all of you my friends; for the hand of God has touched me.
19:22 あなたがたは、なにゆえ神のようにわたしを責め、／わたしの肉をもって満足しないのか。
19:22 Why do all of you persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?
19:23 どうか、わたしの言葉が、書きとめられるように。どうか、わたしの言葉が、書物にしるされるように。
19:23 Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book!
19:24 鉄の筆と鉛とをもって、／ながく岩に刻みつけられるように。
19:24 That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever!
19:25 わたしは知る、／わたしをあがなう者は生きておられる、／後の日に彼は必ず地の上に立たれる。
19:25 For I know that my redeemer lives, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
19:26 わたしの皮がこのように滅ぼされたのち、／わたしは肉を離れて神を見るであろう。
19:26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:
19:27 しかもわたしの味方として見るであろう。わたしの見る者はこれ以外のものではない。わたしの心はこれを望んでこがれる。
19:27 Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.
19:28 あなたがたがもし『われわれはどうして／彼を責めようか』と言い、／また『事の根源は彼のうちに見いだされる』／と言うならば、
19:28 But all of you should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me?
19:29 つるぎを恐れよ、／怒りはつるぎの罰をきたらすからだ。これによって、あなたがたは、／さばきのあることを知るであろう」。
19:29 Be all of you afraid of the sword: for wrath brings the punishments of the sword, that all of you may know there is a judgment.
20:1 そこでナアマびとゾパルは答えて言った、
20:1 Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,
20:2 「これによって、わたしは答えようとの思いを起し、／これがために心中しきりに騒ぎ立つ。
20:2 Therefore do my thoughts cause me to answer, and for this I make haste.
20:3 わたしはわたしをはずかしめる非難を聞く、／しかし、わたしの悟りの霊がわたしに答えさせる。
20:3 I have heard the check of my reproach, and the spirit of my understanding causes me to answer.
20:4 あなたはこの事を知らないのか、／昔から地の上に人の置かれてよりこのかた、
20:4 Know you not this of old, since man was placed upon earth,
20:5 悪しき人の勝ち誇はしばらくであって、／神を信じない者の楽しみは／ただつかのまであることを。
20:5 That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?
20:6 たといその高さが天に達し、／その頭が雲におよんでも、
20:6 Though his excellency mount up to the heavens, and his head reach unto the clouds;
20:7 彼はおのれの糞のように、とこしえに滅び、／彼を見た者は言うであろう、『彼はどこにおるか』と。
20:7 Yet he shall perish for ever like his own dung: they which have seen him shall say, Where is he?
20:8 彼は夢のように飛び去って、再び見ることはない。彼は夜の幻のように追い払われるであろう。
20:8 He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: yea, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night.
20:9 彼を見た目はかさねて彼を見ることがなく、／彼のいた所も再び彼を見ることがなかろう。
20:9 The eye also which saw him shall see him no more; neither shall his place any more behold him.
20:10 その子らは貧しい者に恵みを求め、／その手は彼の貨財を償うであろう。
20:10 His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods.
20:11 その骨には若い力が満ちている、／しかしそれは彼と共にちりに伏すであろう。
20:11 His bones are full of the sin of his youth, which shall lie down with him in the dust.
20:12 たとい悪は彼の口に甘く、／これを舌の裏にかくし、
20:12 Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue;
20:13 これを惜しんで捨てることなく、／口の中に含んでいても、
20:13 Though he spare it, and forsake it not; but keep it still within his mouth:
20:14 その食物は彼の腹の中で変り、／彼の内で毒蛇の毒となる。
20:14 Yet his food in his bowels is turned, it is the gall of asps within him.
20:15 彼は貨財をのんでも、またそれを吐き出す、／神がそれを彼の腹から押し出されるからだ。
20:15 He has swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly.
20:16 彼は毒蛇の毒を吸い、／まむしの舌は彼を殺すであろう。
20:16 He shall suck the poison of asps: the viper's tongue shall slay him.
20:17 彼は蜜と凝乳の流れる川々を見ることができない。
20:17 He shall not see the rivers, the floods, the brooks of honey and butter.
20:18 彼はほねおって獲たものを返して、／それを食うことができない。その商いによって得た利益をもって／楽しむことができない。
20:18 That which he laboured for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down: according to his substance shall the restitution be, and he shall not rejoice therein.
20:19 彼が貧しい者をしえたげ、これを捨てたからだ。彼は家を奪い取っても、／それを建てることができない。
20:19 Because he has oppressed and has forsaken the poor; because he has violently taken away an house which he built not;
20:20 彼の欲張りは足ることを知らぬゆえ、／その楽しむ何物をも救うことができないであろう。
20:20 Surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired.
20:21 彼が残して食べなかった物とては一つもない。それゆえ、その繁栄はながく続かないであろう。
20:21 There shall none of his food be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods.
20:22 その力の満ちている時、彼は窮境に陥り、／悩みの手がことごとく彼の上に臨むであろう。
20:22 In the fullness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: every hand of the wicked shall come upon him.
20:23 彼がその腹を満たそうとすれば、／神はその激しい怒りを送って、／それを彼の上に降り注ぎ、彼の食物とされる。
20:23 When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath upon him, and shall rain it upon him while he is eating.
20:24 彼は鉄の武器を免れても、／青銅の矢は彼を射通すであろう。
20:24 He shall flee from the iron weapon, and the bow of steel shall strike him through.
20:25 彼がこれをその身から引き抜けば、／きらめく矢じりがその肝から出てきて、／恐れが彼の上に臨む。
20:25 It is drawn, and comes out of the body; yea, the glittering sword comes out of his gall: terrors are upon him.
20:26 もろもろの暗黒が彼の宝物のためにたくわえられ、／人が吹き起したものでない火が彼を焼きつくし、／その天幕に残っている者を滅ぼすであろう。
20:26 All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: a fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle.
20:27 天は彼の罪をあらわし、／地は起って彼を攻めるであろう。
20:27 The heaven shall reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against him.
20:28 その家の財産は奪い去られ、／神の怒りの日に消えうせるであろう。
20:28 The increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath.
20:29 これが悪しき人の神から受ける分、／神によって定められた嗣業である」。
20:29 This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the heritage appointed unto him by God.
