27:1 イサクは年老い、目がかすんで見えなくなった時、長子エサウを呼んで言った、「子よ」。彼は答えて言った、「ここにおります」。
27:1 And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My son: and he said unto him, Behold, here am I.
27:2 イサクは言った。「わたしは年老いて、いつ死ぬかも知れない。
27:2 And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death:
27:3 それであなたの武器、弓矢をもって野に出かけ、わたしのために、しかの肉をとってきて、
27:3 Now therefore take, I pray you, your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison;
27:4 わたしの好きなおいしい食べ物を作り、持ってきて食べさせよ。わたしは死ぬ前にあなたを祝福しよう」。
27:4 And make me savoury food, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless you before I die.
27:5 イサクがその子エサウに語るのをリベカは聞いていた。やがてエサウが、しかの肉を獲ようと野に出かけたとき、
27:5 And Rebekah heard when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it.
27:6 リベカはその子ヤコブに言った、「わたしは聞いていましたが、父は兄エサウに、
27:6 And Rebekah spoke unto Jacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard your father speak unto Esau your brother, saying,
27:7 『わたしのために、しかの肉をとってきて、おいしい食べ物を作り、わたしに食べさせよ。わたしは死ぬ前に、主の前であなたを祝福しよう』と言いました。
27:7 Bring me venison, and make me savoury food, that I may eat, and bless you before the LORD before my death.
27:8 それで、子よ、わたしの言葉にしたがい、わたしの言うとおりにしなさい。
27:8 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command you.
27:9 群れの所へ行って、そこからやぎの子の良いのを二頭わたしの所に取ってきなさい。わたしはそれで父のために、父の好きなおいしい食べ物を作りましょう。
27:9 Go now to the flock, and fetch me from thence two good kids of the goats; and I will make them savoury food for your father, such as he loves:
27:10 あなたはそれを持って行って父に食べさせなさい。父は死ぬ前にあなたを祝福するでしょう」。
27:10 And you shall bring it to your father, that he may eat, and that he may bless you before his death.
27:11 ヤコブは母リベカに言った、「兄エサウは毛深い人ですが、わたしはなめらかです。
27:11 And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man:
27:12 おそらく父はわたしにさわってみるでしょう。そうすればわたしは父を欺く者と思われ、祝福を受けず、かえってのろいを受けるでしょう」。
27:12 My father possibly will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver; and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing.
27:13 母は彼に言った、「子よ、あなたがうけるのろいはわたしが受けます。ただ、わたしの言葉に従い、行って取ってきなさい」。
27:13 And his mother said unto him, Upon me be your curse, my son: only obey my voice, and go fetch me them.
27:14 そこで彼は行ってやぎの子を取り、母の所に持ってきたので、母は父の好きなおいしい食べ物を作った。
27:14 And he went, and fetched, and brought them to his mother: and his mother made savoury food, such as his father loved.
27:15 リベカは家にあった長子エサウの晴着を取って、弟ヤコブに着せ、
27:15 And Rebekah took goodly raiment of her eldest son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son:
27:16 また子やぎの皮を手と首のなめらかな所とにつけさせ、
27:16 And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of his neck:
27:17 彼女が作ったおいしい食べ物とパンとをその子ヤコブの手にわたした。
27:17 And she gave the savoury food and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.
27:18 そこでヤコブは父の所へ行って言った、「父よ」。すると父は言った、「わたしはここにいる。子よ、あなたはだれか」。
27:18 And he came unto his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I; who are you, my son?
27:19 ヤコブは父に言った、「長子エサウです。あなたがわたしに言われたとおりにいたしました。どうぞ起きて、すわってわたしのしかの肉を食べ、あなたみずからわたしを祝福してください」。
27:19 And Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau your first born; I have done according as you bade me: arise, I pray you, sit and eat of my venison, that your soul may bless me.
27:20 イサクはその子に言った、「子よ、どうしてあなたはこんなに早く手に入れたのか」。彼は言った、「あなたの神、主がわたしにしあわせを授けられたからです」。
27:20 And Isaac said unto his son, How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the LORD your God brought it to me.
27:21 イサクはヤコブに言った、「子よ、近寄りなさい。わたしは、さわってみて、あなたが確かにわが子エサウであるかどうかをみよう」。
27:21 And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray you, that I may feel you, my son, whether you be my very son Esau or not.
27:22 ヤコブが、父イサクに近寄ったので、イサクは彼にさわってみて言った、「声はヤコブの声だが、手はエサウの手だ」。
27:22 And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.
27:23 ヤコブの手が兄エサウの手のように毛深かったため、イサクはヤコブを見わけることができなかったので、彼を祝福した。
27:23 And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau's hands: so he blessed him.
27:24 イサクは言った、「あなたは確かにわが子エサウですか」。彼は言った、「そうです」。
27:24 And he said, Are you my very son Esau? And he said, I am.
27:25 イサクは言った、「わたしの所へ持ってきなさい。わが子のしかの肉を食べて、わたしみずから、あなたを祝福しよう」。ヤコブがそれを彼の所に持ってきたので、彼は食べた。またぶどう酒を持ってきたので、彼は飲んだ。
27:25 And he said, Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son's venison, that my soul may bless you. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat: and he brought him wine and he drank.
27:26 そして父イサクは彼に言った、「子よ、さあ、近寄ってわたしに口づけしなさい」。
27:26 And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son.
27:27 彼が近寄って口づけした時、イサクはその着物のかおりをかぎ、彼を祝福して言った、／「ああ、わが子のかおりは、／主が祝福された野のかおりのようだ。
27:27 And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD has blessed:
27:28 どうか神が、天の露と、／地の肥えたところと、多くの穀物と、／新しいぶどう酒とをあなたに賜わるように。
27:28 Therefore God give you of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:
27:29 もろもろの民はあなたに仕え、／もろもろの国はあなたに身をかがめる。あなたは兄弟たちの主となり、／あなたの母の子らは、／あなたに身をかがめるであろう。あなたをのろう者はのろわれ、／あなたを祝福する者は祝福される」。
27:29 Let people serve you, and nations bow down to you: be lord over your brethren, and let your mother's sons bow down to you: cursed be every one that curses you, and blessed be he that blesses you.
27:30 イサクがヤコブを祝福し終って、ヤコブが父イサクの前から出て行くとすぐ、兄エサウが狩から帰ってきた。
27:30 And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.
27:31 彼もまたおいしい食べ物を作って、父の所に持ってきて、言った、「父よ、起きてあなたの子のしかの肉を食べ、あなたみずから、わたしを祝福してください」。
27:31 And he also had made savoury food, and brought it unto his father, and said unto his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son's venison, that your soul may bless me.
27:32 父イサクは彼に言った、「あなたは、だれか」。彼は言った、「わたしはあなたの子、長子エサウです」。
27:32 And Isaac his father said unto him, Who are you? And he said, I am your son, your firstborn Esau.
27:33 イサクは激しくふるえて言った、「それでは、あのしかの肉を取って、わたしに持ってきた者はだれか。わたしはあなたが来る前に、みんな食べて彼を祝福した。ゆえに彼が祝福を得るであろう」。
27:33 And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where is he that has taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before you came, and have blessed him? yea, and he shall be blessed.
27:34 エサウは父の言葉を聞いた時、大声をあげ、激しく叫んで、父に言った、「父よ、わたしを、わたしをも祝福してください」。
27:34 And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father.
27:35 イサクは言った、「あなたの弟が偽ってやってきて、あなたの祝福を奪ってしまった」。
27:35 And he said, Your brother came with subtlety, and has taken away your blessing.
27:36 エサウは言った、「よくもヤコブと名づけたものだ。彼は二度までもわたしをおしのけた。さきには、わたしの長子の特権を奪い、こんどはわたしの祝福を奪った」。また言った、「あなたはわたしのために祝福を残しておかれませんでしたか」。
27:36 And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he has supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he has taken away my blessing. And he said, Have you not reserved a blessing for me?
27:37 イサクは答えてエサウに言った、「わたしは彼をあなたの主人とし、兄弟たちを皆しもべとして彼に与え、また穀物とぶどう酒を彼に授けた。わが子よ、今となっては、あなたのために何ができようか」。
27:37 And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him your lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto you, my son?
27:38 エサウは父に言った、「父よ、あなたの祝福はただ一つだけですか。父よ、わたしを、わたしをも祝福してください」。エサウは声をあげて泣いた。
27:38 And Esau said unto his father, Have you but one blessing, my father? bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.
27:39 父イサクは答えて彼に言った、／「あなたのすみかは地の肥えた所から離れ、また上なる天の露から離れるであろう。
27:39 And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, your dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above;
27:40 あなたはつるぎをもって世を渡り、／あなたの弟に仕えるであろう。しかし、あなたが勇み立つ時、／首から、そのくびきを振り落すであろう」。
27:40 And by your sword shall you live, and shall serve your brother; and it shall come to pass when you shall have the dominion, that you shall break his yoke from off your neck.
27:41 こうしてエサウは父がヤコブに与えた祝福のゆえにヤコブを憎んだ。エサウは心の内で言った、「父の喪の日も遠くはないであろう。その時、弟ヤコブを殺そう」。
27:41 And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.
27:42 しかしリベカは長子エサウのこの言葉を人づてに聞いたので、人をやり、弟ヤコブを呼んで言った、「兄エサウはあなたを殺そうと考えて、みずから慰めています。
27:42 And these words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah: and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, Behold, your brother Esau, as concerning you, does comfort himself, purposing to kill you.
27:43 子よ、今わたしの言葉に従って、すぐハランにいるわたしの兄ラバンのもとにのがれ、
27:43 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice; arise, flee you to Laban my brother to Haran;
27:44 あなたの兄の怒りが解けるまで、しばらく彼の所にいなさい。
27:44 And tarry with him a few days, until your brother's fury turn away;
27:45 兄の憤りが解けて、あなたのした事を兄が忘れるようになったならば、わたしは人をやって、あなたをそこから迎えましょう。どうして、わたしは一日のうちにあなたがたふたりを失ってよいでしょうか」。
27:45 Until your brother's anger turn away from you, and he forget that which you have done to him: then I will send, and fetch you from thence: why should I be deprived also of you both in one day?
27:46 リベカはイサクに言った、「わたしはヘテびとの娘どものことで、生きているのがいやになりました。もしヤコブがこの地の、あの娘どものようなヘテびとの娘を妻にめとるなら、わたしは生きていて、何になりましょう」。
27:46 And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth: if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?
28:1 イサクはヤコブを呼んで、これを祝福し、命じて言った、「あなたはカナンの娘を妻にめとってはならない。
28:1 And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.
28:2 立ってパダンアラムへ行き、あなたの母の父ベトエルの家に行って、そこであなたの母の兄ラバンの娘を妻にめとりなさい。
28:2 Arise, go to Padanaram, to the house of Bethuel your mother's father; and take you a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban your mother's brother.
28:3 全能の神が、あなたを祝福し、多くの子を得させ、かつふえさせて、多くの国民とし、
28:3 And God Almighty bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, that you may be a multitude of people;
28:4 またアブラハムの祝福をあなたと子孫とに与えて、神がアブラハムに授けられたあなたの寄留の地を継がせてくださるように」。
28:4 And give you the blessing of Abraham, to you, and to your seed with you; that you may inherit the land wherein you are a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham.
28:5 こうしてイサクはヤコブを送り出した。ヤコブはパダンアラムに向かい、アラムびとベトエルの子で、ヤコブとエサウとの母リベカの兄ラバンのもとへ行った。
28:5 And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to Padanaram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother.
28:6 さてエサウは、イサクがヤコブを祝福して、パダンアラムにつかわし、そこから妻をめとらせようとしたこと、彼を祝福し、命じて「あなたはカナンの娘を妻にめとってはならない」と言ったこと、
28:6 When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padanaram, to take him a wife from thence; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;
28:7 そしてヤコブが父母の言葉に従って、パダンアラムへ行ったことを知ったとき、
28:7 And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padanaram;
28:8 彼はカナンの娘が父イサクの心にかなわないのを見た。
28:8 And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father;
28:9 そこでエサウはイシマエルの所に行き、すでにある妻たちのほかにアブラハムの子イシマエルの娘で、ネバヨテの妹マハラテを妻にめとった。
28:9 Then went Esau unto Ishmael, and took unto the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham's son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife.
28:10 さてヤコブはベエルシバを立って、ハランへ向かったが、
28:10 And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.
28:11 一つの所に着いた時、日が暮れたので、そこに一夜を過ごし、その所の石を取ってまくらとし、そこに伏して寝た。
28:11 And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.
28:12 時に彼は夢をみた。一つのはしごが地の上に立っていて、その頂は天に達し、神の使たちがそれを上り下りしているのを見た。
28:12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.
28:13 そして主は彼のそばに立って言われた、「わたしはあなたの父アブラハムの神、イサクの神、主である。あなたが伏している地を、あなたと子孫とに与えよう。
28:13 And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon you lie, to you will I give it, and to your seed;
28:14 あなたの子孫は地のちりのように多くなって、西、東、北、南にひろがり、地の諸族はあなたと子孫とによって祝福をうけるであろう。
28:14 And your seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in you and in your seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
28:15 わたしはあなたと共にいて、あなたがどこへ行くにもあなたを守り、あなたをこの地に連れ帰るであろう。わたしは決してあなたを捨てず、あなたに語った事を行うであろう」。
28:15 And, behold, I am with you, and will keep you in all places where you go, and will bring you again into this land; for I will not leave you, until I have done that which I have spoken to you of.
28:16 ヤコブは眠りからさめて言った、「まことに主がこの所におられるのに、わたしは知らなかった」。
28:16 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.
28:17 そして彼は恐れて言った、「これはなんという恐るべき所だろう。これは神の家である。これは天の門だ」。
28:17 And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is no other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.
28:18 ヤコブは朝はやく起きて、まくらとしていた石を取り、それを立てて柱とし、その頂に油を注いで、
28:18 And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.
28:19 その所の名をベテルと名づけた。その町の名は初めはルズといった。
28:19 And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.
28:20 ヤコブは誓いを立てて言った、「神がわたしと共にいまし、わたしの行くこの道でわたしを守り、食べるパンと着る着物を賜い、
28:20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,
28:21 安らかに父の家に帰らせてくださるなら、主をわたしの神といたしましょう。
28:21 So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:
28:22 またわたしが柱に立てたこの石を神の家といたしましょう。そしてあなたがくださるすべての物の十分の一を、わたしは必ずあなたにささげます」。
28:22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that you shall give me I will surely give the tenth unto you.
29:1 ヤコブはその旅を続けて東の民の地へ行った。
29:1 Then Jacob went on his journey, and came into the land of the people of the east.
29:2 見ると野に一つの井戸があって、そのかたわらに羊の三つの群れが伏していた。人々はその井戸から群れに水を飲ませるのであったが、井戸の口には大きな石があった。
29:2 And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone was upon the well's mouth.
29:3 群れが皆そこに集まると、人々は井戸の口から石をころがして羊に水を飲ませ、その石をまた井戸の口の元のところに返しておくのである。
29:3 And thither were all the flocks gathered: and they rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again upon the well's mouth in his place.
29:4 ヤコブは人々に言った、「兄弟たちよ、あなたがたはどこからこられたのですか」。彼らは言った、「わたしたちはハランからです」。
29:4 And Jacob said unto them, My brethren, whence be all of you? And they said, Of Haran are we.
29:5 ヤコブは彼らに言った、「あなたがたはナホルの子ラバンを知っていますか」。彼らは言った、「知っています」。
29:5 And he said unto them, Know all of you Laban the son of Nahor? And they said, We know him.
29:6 ヤコブはまた彼らに言った、「彼は無事ですか」。彼らは言った、「無事です。御覧なさい。彼の娘ラケルはいま羊と一緒にここへきます」。
29:6 And he said unto them, Is he well? And they said, He is well: and, behold, Rachel his daughter comes with the sheep.
29:7 ヤコブは言った、「日はまだ高いし、家畜を集める時でもない。あなたがたは羊に水を飲ませてから、また行って飼いなさい」。
29:7 And he said, Lo, it is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattle should be gathered together: water all of you the sheep, and go and feed them.
29:8 彼らは言った、「わたしたちはそれはできないのです。群れがみな集まった上で、井戸の口から石をころがし、それから羊に水を飲ませるのです」。
29:8 And they said, We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together, and till they roll the stone from the well's mouth; then we water the sheep.
29:9 ヤコブがなお彼らと語っている時に、ラケルは父の羊と一緒にきた。彼女は羊を飼っていたからである。
29:9 And while he yet spoke with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep; for she kept them.
29:10 ヤコブは母の兄ラバンの娘ラケルと母の兄ラバンの羊とを見た。そしてヤコブは進み寄って井戸の口から石をころがし、母の兄ラバンの羊に水を飲ませた。
29:10 And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother.
29:11 ヤコブはラケルに口づけし、声をあげて泣いた。
29:11 And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.
29:12 ヤコブはラケルに、自分がラケルの父のおいであり、リベカの子であることを告げたので、彼女は走って行って父に話した。
29:12 And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father's brother, and that he was Rebekah's son: and she ran and told her father.
29:13 ラバンは妹の子ヤコブがきたという知らせを聞くとすぐ、走って行ってヤコブを迎え、これを抱いて口づけし、家に連れてきた。そこでヤコブはすべての事をラバンに話した。
29:13 And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister's son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.
29:14 ラバンは彼に言った、「あなたはほんとうにわたしの骨肉です」。ヤコブは一か月の間彼と共にいた。
29:14 And Laban said to him, Surely you are my bone and my flesh. And he abode with him the space of a month.
29:15 時にラバンはヤコブに言った、「あなたはわたしのおいだからといって、ただでわたしのために働くこともないでしょう。どんな報酬を望みますか、わたしに言ってください」。
29:15 And Laban said unto Jacob, Because you are my brother, should you therefore serve me for nothing? tell me, what shall your wages be?
29:16 さてラバンにはふたりの娘があった。姉の名はレアといい、妹の名はラケルといった。
29:16 And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.
29:17 レアは目が弱かったが、ラケルは美しくて愛らしかった。
29:17 Leah was tender eyed; but Rachel was beautiful and well favoured.
29:18 ヤコブはラケルを愛したので、「わたしは、あなたの妹娘ラケルのために七年あなたに仕えましょう」と言った。
29:18 And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter.
29:19 ラバンは言った、「彼女を他人にやるよりもあなたにやる方がよい。わたしと一緒にいなさい」。
29:19 And Laban said, It is better that I give her to you, than that I should give her to another man: abide with me.
29:20 こうして、ヤコブは七年の間ラケルのために働いたが、彼女を愛したので、ただ数日のように思われた。
29:20 And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.
29:21 ヤコブはラバンに言った、「期日が満ちたから、わたしの妻を与えて、妻の所にはいらせてください」。
29:21 And Jacob said unto Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her.
29:22 そこでラバンはその所の人々をみな集めて、ふるまいを設けた。
29:22 And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.
29:23 夕暮となったとき、娘レアをヤコブのもとに連れてきたので、ヤコブは彼女の所にはいった。
29:23 And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in unto her.
29:24 ラバンはまた自分のつかえめジルパを娘レアにつかえめとして与えた。
29:24 And Laban gave unto his daughter Leah Zilpah his maid for an handmaid.

29:25 And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this you have done unto me? did not I serve with you for Rachel? wherefore then have you misled me?
29:26 ラバンは言った、「妹を姉より先にとつがせる事はわれわれの国ではしません。
29:26 And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn.
29:27 まずこの娘のために一週間を過ごしなさい。そうすればあの娘もあなたにあげよう。あなたは、そのため更に七年わたしに仕えなければならない」。
29:27 Fulfill her week, and we will give you this also for the service which you shall serve with me yet seven other years.
29:28 ヤコブはそのとおりにして、その一週間が終ったので、ラバンは娘ラケルをも妻として彼に与えた。
29:28 And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also.
29:29 ラバンはまた自分のつかえめビルハを娘ラケルにつかえめとして与えた。
29:29 And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his handmaid to be her maid.
29:30 ヤコブはまたラケルの所にはいった。彼はレアよりもラケルを愛して、更に七年ラバンに仕えた。
29:30 And he went in also unto Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years.
29:31 主はレアがきらわれるのを見て、その胎を開かれたが、ラケルは、みごもらなかった。
29:31 And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.
29:32 レアは、みごもって子を産み、名をルベンと名づけて、言った、「主がわたしの悩みを顧みられたから、今は夫もわたしを愛するだろう」。
29:32 And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the LORD has looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me.
29:33 彼女はまた、みごもって子を産み、「主はわたしが嫌われるのをお聞きになって、わたしにこの子をも賜わった」と言って、名をシメオンと名づけた。
29:33 And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Because the LORD has heard I was hated, he has therefore given me this son also: and she called his name Simeon.
29:34 彼女はまた、みごもって子を産み、「わたしは彼に三人の子を産んだから、こんどこそは夫もわたしに親しむだろう」と言って、名をレビと名づけた。
29:34 And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have born him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi.
29:35 彼女はまた、みごもって子を産み、「わたしは今、主をほめたたえる」と言って名をユダと名づけた。そこで彼女の、子を産むことはやんだ。
29:35 And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.
30:1 ラケルは自分がヤコブに子を産まないのを知った時、姉をねたんでヤコブに言った、「わたしに子どもをください。さもないと、わたしは死にます」。
30:1 And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die.
30:2 ヤコブはラケルに向かい怒って言った、「あなたの胎に子どもをやどらせないのは神です。わたしが神に代ることができようか」。
30:2 And Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel: and he said, Am I in God's position, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?
30:3 ラケルは言った、「わたしのつかえめビルハがいます。彼女の所におはいりなさい。彼女が子を産んで、わたしのひざに置きます。そうすれば、わたしもまた彼女によって子を持つでしょう」。
30:3 And she said, Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have children by her.
30:4 ラケルはつかえめビルハを彼に与えて、妻とさせたので、ヤコブは彼女の所にはいった。
30:4 And she gave him Bilhah her handmaid to wife: and Jacob went in unto her.
30:5 ビルハは、みごもってヤコブに子を産んだ。
30:5 And Bilhah conceived, and bare Jacob a son.
30:6 そこでラケルは、「神はわたしの訴えに答え、またわたしの声を聞いて、わたしに子を賜わった」と言って、名をダンと名づけた。
30:6 And Rachel said, God has judged me, and has also heard my voice, and has given me a son: therefore called she his name Dan.
30:7 ラケルのつかえめビルハはまた、みごもって第二の子をヤコブに産んだ。
30:7 And Bilhah Rachel's maid conceived again, and bare Jacob a second son.
30:8 そこでラケルは、「わたしは激しい争いで、姉と争って勝った」と言って、名をナフタリと名づけた。
30:8 And Rachel said, With great wrestlings have I wrestled with my sister, and I have prevailed: and she called his name Naphtali.
30:9 さてレアは自分が子を産むことのやんだのを見たとき、つかえめジルパを取り、妻としてヤコブに与えた。
30:9 When Leah saw that she had left bearing, she took Zilpah her maid, and gave her Jacob to wife.
30:10 レアのつかえめジルパはヤコブに子を産んだ。
30:10 And Zilpah Leah's maid bare Jacob a son.
30:11 そこでレアは、「幸運がきた」と言って、名をガドと名づけた。
30:11 And Leah said, A troop comes: and she called his name Gad.
30:12 レアのつかえめジルパは第二の子をヤコブに産んだ。
30:12 And Zilpah Leah's maid bare Jacob a second son.
30:13 そこでレアは、「わたしは、しあわせです。娘たちはわたしをしあわせな者と言うでしょう」と言って、名をアセルと名づけた。
30:13 And Leah said, Happy am I, for the daughters will call me blessed: and she called his name Asher.
30:14 さてルベンは麦刈りの日に野に出て、野で恋なすびを見つけ、それを母レアのもとに持ってきた。ラケルはレアに言った、「あなたの子の恋なすびをどうぞわたしにください」。
30:14 And Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them unto his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, Give me, I pray you, of your son's mandrakes.
30:15 レアはラケルに言った、「あなたがわたしの夫を取ったのは小さな事でしょうか。その上、あなたはまたわたしの子の恋なすびをも取ろうとするのですか」。ラケルは言った、「それではあなたの子の恋なすびに換えて、今夜彼をあなたと共に寝させましょう」。
30:15 And she said unto her, Is it a small matter that you have taken my husband? and would you take away my son's mandrakes also? And Rachel said, Therefore he shall lie with you to night for your son's mandrakes.
30:16 夕方になって、ヤコブが野から帰ってきたので、レアは彼を出迎えて言った、「わたしの子の恋なすびをもって、わたしがあなたを雇ったのですから、あなたはわたしの所に、はいらなければなりません」。ヤコブはその夜レアと共に寝た。
30:16 And Jacob came out of the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, You must come in unto me; for surely I have hired you with my son's mandrakes. And he lay with her that night.
30:17 神はレアの願いを聞かれたので、彼女はみごもって五番目の子をヤコブに産んだ。
30:17 And God hearkened unto Leah, and she conceived, and bare Jacob the fifth son.
30:18 そこでレアは、「わたしがつかえめを夫に与えたから、神がわたしにその価を賜わったのです」と言って、名をイッサカルと名づけた。
30:18 And Leah said, God has given me my hire, because I have given my maiden to my husband: and she called his name Issachar.
30:19 レアはまた、みごもって六番目の子をヤコブに産んだ。
30:19 And Leah conceived again, and bare Jacob the sixth son.
30:20 そこでレアは、「神はわたしに良い賜物をたまわった。わたしは六人の子を夫に産んだから、今こそ彼はわたしと一緒に住むでしょう」と言って、その名をゼブルンと名づけた。
30:20 And Leah said, God has imbued me with a good dowry; now will my husband dwell with me, because I have born him six sons: and she called his name Zebulun.
30:21 その後、彼女はひとりの娘を産んで、名をデナと名づけた。
30:21 And afterwards she bare a daughter, and called her name Dinah.
30:22 次に神はラケルを心にとめられ、彼女の願いを聞き、その胎を開かれたので、
30:22 And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb.

30:23 And she conceived, and bare a son; and said, God has taken away my reproach:

30:24 And she called his name Joseph; and said, The LORD shall add to me another son.
30:25 ラケルがヨセフを産んだ時、ヤコブはラバンに言った、「わたしを去らせて、わたしの故郷、わたしの国へ行かせてください。
30:25 And it came to pass, when Rachel had born Joseph, that Jacob said unto Laban, Send me away, that I may go unto mine own place, and to my country.
30:26 あなたに仕えて得たわたしの妻子を、わたしに与えて行かせてください。わたしがあなたのために働いた骨折りは、あなたがごぞんじです」。
30:26 Give me my wives and my children, for whom I have served you, and let me go: for you know my service which I have done you.
30:27 ラバンは彼に言った、「もし、あなたの心にかなうなら、とどまってください。わたしは主があなたのゆえに、わたしを恵まれるしるしを見ました」。
30:27 And Laban said unto him, I pray you, if I have found favour in yours eyes, tarry: for I have learned by experience that the LORD has blessed me for your sake.
30:28 また言った、「あなたの報酬を申し出てください。わたしはそれを払います」。
30:28 And he said, Appoint me your wages, and I will give it.
30:29 ヤコブは彼に言った、「わたしがどのようにあなたに仕えたか、またどのようにあなたの家畜を飼ったかは、あなたがごぞんじです。
30:29 And he said unto him, You know how I have served you, and how your cattle was with me.
30:30 わたしが来る前には、あなたの持っておられたものはわずかでしたが、ふえて多くなりました。主はわたしの行く所どこでも、あなたを恵まれました。しかし、いつになったらわたしも自分の家を成すようになるでしょうか」。
30:30 For it was little which you had before I came, and it is now increased unto a multitude; and the LORD has blessed you since my coming: and now when shall I provide for mine own house also?
30:31 彼は言った、「何をあなたにあげようか」。ヤコブは言った、「なにもわたしにくださるに及びません。もしあなたが、わたしのためにこの一つの事をしてくださるなら、わたしは今一度あなたの群れを飼い、守りましょう。
30:31 And he said, What shall I give you? And Jacob said, You shall not give me any thing: if you will do this thing for me, I will again feed and keep your flock.
30:32 わたしはきょう、あなたの群れをみな回ってみて、その中からすべてぶちとまだらの羊、およびすべて黒い小羊と、やぎの中のまだらのものと、ぶちのものとを移しますが、これをわたしの報酬としましょう。
30:32 I will pass through all your flock to day, removing from thence all the speckled and spotted cattle, and all the brown cattle among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats: and of such shall be my hire.
30:33 あとで、あなたがきて、あなたの前でわたしの報酬をしらべる時、わたしの正しい事が証明されるでしょう。もしも、やぎの中にぶちのないもの、まだらでないものがあったり、小羊の中に黒くないものがあれば、それはみなわたしが盗んだものとなるでしょう」。
30:33 So shall my righteousness answer for me in time to come, when it shall come for my hire before your face: every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and brown among the sheep, that shall be counted stolen with me.
30:34 ラバンは言った、「よろしい。あなたの言われるとおりにしましょう」。
30:34 And Laban said, Behold, I would it might be according to your word.
30:35 そこでラバンはその日、雄やぎのしまのあるもの、まだらのもの、すべて雌やぎのぶちのもの、まだらのもの、すべて白みをおびているもの、またすべて小羊の中の黒いものを移して子らの手にわたし、
30:35 And he removed that day the he goats that were striped with bands and spotted, and all the she goats that were speckled and spotted, and every one that had some white in it, and all the brown among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons.
30:36 ヤコブとの間に三日路の隔たりを設けた。ヤコブはラバンの残りの群れを飼った。
30:36 And he set three days' journey between himself and Jacob: and Jacob fed the rest of Laban's flocks.
30:37 ヤコブは、はこやなぎと、あめんどうと、すずかけの木のなまの枝を取り、皮をはいでそれに白い筋をつくり、枝の白い所を表わし、
30:37 And Jacob took him rods of green poplar, and of the hazel and chestnut tree; and stripped white strakes in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods.
30:38 皮をはいだ枝を、群れがきて水を飲む鉢、すなわち水ぶねの中に、群れに向かわせて置いた。群れは水を飲みにきた時に、はらんだ。
30:38 And he set the rods which he had stripped before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they should conceive when they came to drink.
30:39 すなわち群れは枝の前で、はらんで、しまのあるもの、ぶちのもの、まだらのものを産んだ。
30:39 And the flocks conceived before the rods, and brought forth cattle striped with bands, speckled, and spotted.
30:40 ヤコブはその小羊を別においた。彼はまた群れの顔をラバンの群れのしまのあるものと、すべて黒いものとに向かわせた。そして自分の群れを別にまとめておいて、ラバンの群れには、入れなかった。
30:40 And Jacob did separate the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks toward the striped with bands, and all the brown in the flock of Laban; and he put his own flocks by themselves, and put them not unto Laban's cattle.
30:41 また群れの強いものが発情した時には、ヤコブは水ぶねの中に、その群れの目の前に、かの枝を置いて、枝の間で、はらませた。
30:41 And it came to pass, whenever the stronger cattle did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods.
30:42 けれども群れの弱いものの時には、それを置かなかった。こうして弱いものはラバンのものとなり、強いものはヤコブのものとなったので、
30:42 But when the cattle were feeble, he put them not in: so the feebler were Laban's, and the stronger Jacob's.
30:43 この人は大いに富み、多くの群れと、男女の奴隷、およびらくだ、ろばを持つようになった。
30:43 And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle, and maidservants, and male servants, and camels, and asses.
31:1 さてヤコブはラバンの子らが、「ヤコブはわれわれの父の物をことごとく奪い、父の物によってあのすべての富を獲たのだ」と言っているのを聞いた。
31:1 And he heard the words of Laban's sons, saying, Jacob has taken away all that was our father's; and of that which was our father's has he got all this glory.
31:2 またヤコブがラバンの顔を見るのに、それは自分に対して以前のようではなかった。
31:2 And Jacob beheld the countenance of Laban, and, behold, it was not toward him as before.
31:3 主はヤコブに言われた、「あなたの先祖の国へ帰り、親族のもとに行きなさい。わたしはあなたと共にいるであろう」。
31:3 And the LORD said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of your fathers, and to your kindred; and I will be with you.
31:4 そこでヤコブは人をやって、ラケルとレアとを、野にいる自分の群れのところに招き、
31:4 And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his flock,
31:5 彼女らに言った、「わたしがあなたがたの父の顔を見るのに、わたしに対して以前のようではない。しかし、わたしの父の神はわたしと共におられる。
31:5 And said unto them, I see your father's countenance, that it is not toward me as before; but the God of my father has been with me.
31:6 あなたがたが知っているように、わたしは力のかぎり、あなたがたの父に仕えてきた。
31:6 And all of you know that with all my power I have served your father.
31:7 しかし、あなたがたの父はわたしを欺いて、十度もわたしの報酬を変えた。けれども神は彼がわたしに害を加えることをお許しにならなかった。
31:7 And your father has deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me.
31:8 もし彼が、『ぶちのものはあなたの報酬だ』と言えば、群れは皆ぶちのものを産んだ。もし彼が、『しまのあるものはあなたの報酬だ』と言えば、群れは皆しまのあるものを産んだ。
31:8 If he said thus, The speckled shall be your wages; then all the cattle bare speckled: and if he said thus, The striped with bands shall be your hire; then bare all the cattle striped with bands.
31:9 こうして神はあなたがたの父の家畜をとってわたしに与えられた。
31:9 Thus God has taken away the cattle of your father, and given them to me.
31:10 また群れが発情した時、わたしが夢に目をあげて見ると、群れの上に乗っている雄やぎは皆しまのあるもの、ぶちのもの、霜ふりのものであった。
31:10 And it came to pass at the time that the cattle conceived, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the cattle were striped with bands, speckled, and greyed.
31:11 その時、神の使が夢の中でわたしに言った、『ヤコブよ』。わたしは答えた、『ここにおります』。
31:11 And the angel of God spoke unto me in a dream, saying, Jacob: And I said, Here am I.
31:12 神の使は言った、『目を上げて見てごらん。群れの上に乗っている雄やぎは皆しまのあるもの、ぶちのもの、霜ふりのものです。わたしはラバンがあなたにしたことをみな見ています。
31:12 And he said, Lift up now yours eyes, and see, all the rams which leap upon the cattle are striped with bands, speckled, and greyed: for I have seen all that Laban does unto you.
31:13 わたしはベテルの神です。かつてあなたはあそこで柱に油を注いで、わたしに誓いを立てましたが、いま立ってこの地を出て、あなたの生れた国へ帰りなさい』」。
31:13 I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed the pillar, and where you vowed a vow unto me: now arise, get you out from this land, and return unto the land of your kindred.
31:14 ラケルとレアは答えて言った、「わたしたちの父の家に、なおわたしたちの受くべき分、また嗣業がありましょうか。
31:14 And Rachel and Leah answered and said unto him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father's house?
31:15 わたしたちは父に他人のように思われているではありませんか。彼はわたしたちを売ったばかりでなく、わたしたちのその金をさえ使い果したのです。
31:15 Are we not counted of him strangers? for he has sold us, and has quite devoured also our money.
31:16 神がわたしたちの父から取りあげられた富は、みなわたしたちとわたしたちの子どものものです。だから何事でも神があなたにお告げになった事をしてください」。
31:16 For all the riches which God has taken from our father, that is ours, and our children's: now then, whatsoever God has said unto you, do.
31:17 そこでヤコブは立って、子らと妻たちをらくだに乗せ、
31:17 Then Jacob rose up, and set his sons and his wives upon camels;
31:18 またすべての家畜、すなわち彼がパダンアラムで獲た家畜と、すべての財産を携えて、カナンの地におる父イサクのもとへ赴いた。
31:18 And he carried away all his cattle, and all his goods which he had got, the cattle of his getting, which he had got in Padanaram, in order to go to Isaac his father in the land of Canaan.
31:19 その時ラバンは羊の毛を切るために出ていたので、ラケルは父の所有のテラピムを盗み出した。
31:19 And Laban went to shear his sheep: and Rachel had stolen the images that were her father's.
31:20 またヤコブはアラムびとラバンを欺き、自分の逃げ去るのを彼に告げなかった。
31:20 And Jacob stole away unexpectedly to Laban the Syrian, in that he told him not that he fled.
31:21 こうして彼はすべての持ち物を携えて逃げ、立って川を渡り、ギレアデの山地へ向かった。
31:21 So he fled with all that he had; and he rose up, and passed over the river, and set his face toward the mount Gilead.
31:22 三日目になって、ヤコブの逃げ去ったことが、ラバンに聞えたので、
31:22 And it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob was fled.
31:23 彼は一族を率いて、七日の間そのあとを追い、ギレアデの山地で追いついた。
31:23 And he took his brethren with him, and pursued after him seven days' journey; and they overtook him in the mount Gilead.
31:24 しかし、神は夜の夢にアラムびとラバンに現れて言われた、「あなたは心してヤコブに、よしあしを言ってはなりません」。
31:24 And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said unto him, Take heed that you speak not to Jacob either good or bad.
31:25 ラバンはついにヤコブに追いついたが、ヤコブが山に天幕を張っていたので、ラバンも一族と共にギレアデの山に天幕を張った。
31:25 Then Laban overtook Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mount: and Laban with his brethren pitched in the mount of Gilead.
31:26 ラバンはヤコブに言った、「あなたはなんという事をしたのですか。あなたはわたしを欺いてわたしの娘たちをいくさのとりこのように引いて行きました。
31:26 And Laban said to Jacob, What have you done, that you have stolen away unexpectedly to me, and carried away my daughters, as captives taken with the sword?
31:27 なぜあなたはわたしに告げずに、ひそかに逃げ去ってわたしを欺いたのですか。わたしは手鼓や琴で喜び歌ってあなたを送りだそうとしていたのに。
31:27 Wherefore did you flee away secretly, and steal away from me; and did not tell me, that I might have sent you away with delight, and with songs, with timbrel, and with harp?
31:28 なぜわたしの孫や娘にわたしが口づけするのを許さなかったのですか。あなたは愚かな事をしました。
31:28 And have not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? you have now done foolishly in so doing.
31:29 わたしはあなたがたに害を加える力をもっているが、あなたがたの父の神が昨夜わたしに告げて、『おまえは心して、ヤコブによしあしを言うな』と言われました。
31:29 It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt: but the God of your father spoke unto me last night, saying, Take you heed that you speak not to Jacob either good or bad.
31:30 今あなたが逃げ出したのは父の家が非常に恋しくなったからでしょうが、なぜあなたはわたしの神を盗んだのですか」。
31:30 And now, though you would essentially be gone, because you sore longed after your father's house, yet wherefore have you stolen my gods?
31:31 ヤコブはラバンに答えた、「たぶんあなたが娘たちをわたしから奪いとるだろうと思ってわたしは恐れたからです。
31:31 And Jacob answered and said to Laban, Because I was afraid: for I said, Possibly you would take by force your daughters from me.
31:32 だれの所にでもあなたの神が見つかったら、その者を生かしてはおきません。何かあなたの物がわたしのところにあるか、われわれの一族の前で、調べてみて、それをお取りください」。ラケルが神を盗んだことをヤコブは知らなかったからである。
31:32 With whomsoever you find your gods, let him not live: before our brethren discern you what is yours with me, and take it to you. For Jacob knew not that Rachel had stolen them.
31:33 そこでラバンはヤコブの天幕にはいり、またレアの天幕にはいり、更にふたりのはしための天幕にはいってみたが、見つからなかったので、レアの天幕を出てラケルの天幕にはいった。
31:33 And Laban went into Jacob's tent, and into Leah's tent, and into the two maidservants' tents; but he found them not. Then went he out of Leah's tent, and entered into Rachel's tent.
31:34 しかし、ラケルはすでにテラピムを取って、らくだのくらの下に入れ、その上にすわっていたので、ラバンは、くまなく天幕の中を捜したが、見つからなかった。
31:34 Now Rachel had taken the images, and put them in the camel's furniture, and sat upon them. And Laban searched all the tent, but found them not.
31:35 その時ラケルは父に言った、「わたしは女の常のことがあって、あなたの前に立ち上がることができません。わが主よ、どうかお怒りにならぬよう」。彼は捜したがテラピムは見つからなかった。
31:35 And she said to her father, Let it not displease my lord that I cannot rise up before you; for the custom of women is upon me. And he searched but found not the images.
31:36 そこでヤコブは怒ってラバンを責めた。そしてヤコブはラバンに言った、「わたしにどんなあやまちがあり、どんな罪があって、あなたはわたしのあとを激しく追ったのですか。
31:36 And Jacob was angry, and find fault with Laban: and Jacob answered and said to Laban, What is my trespass? what is my sin, that you have so hotly pursued after me?
31:37 あなたはわたしの物をことごとく探られたが、何かあなたの家の物が見つかりましたか。それを、ここに、わたしの一族と、あなたの一族の前に置いて、われわれふたりの間をさばかせましょう。
31:37 Whereas you have searched all my stuff, what have you found of all your household stuff? set it here before my brethren and your brethren, that they may judge between us both.
31:38 わたしはこの二十年、あなたと一緒にいましたが、その間あなたの雌羊も雌やぎも子を産みそこねたことはなく、またわたしはあなたの群れの雄羊を食べたこともありませんでした。
31:38 This twenty years have I been with you; your ewes and your she goats have not cast their young, and the rams of your flock have I not eaten.
31:39 また野獣が、かみ裂いたものは、あなたのもとに持ってこないで、自分でそれを償いました。また昼盗まれたものも、夜盗まれたものも、あなたはわたしにその償いを求められました。
31:39 That which was torn of beasts I brought not unto you; I bare the loss of it; of my hand did you require it, whether stolen by day, or stolen by night.
31:40 わたしのことを言えば、昼は暑さに、夜は寒さに悩まされて、眠ることもできませんでした。
31:40 Thus I was; in the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep departed from mine eyes.
31:41 わたしはこの二十年あなたの家族のひとりでありました。わたしはあなたのふたりの娘のために十四年、またあなたの群れのために六年、あなたに仕えましたが、あなたは十度もわたしの報酬を変えられました。
31:41 Thus have I been twenty years in your house; I served you fourteen years for your two daughters, and six years for your cattle: and you have changed my wages ten times.
31:42 もし、わたしの父の神、アブラハムの神、イサクのかしこむ者がわたしと共におられなかったなら、あなたはきっとわたしを、から手で去らせたでしょう。神はわたしの悩みと、わたしの労苦とを顧みられて昨夜あなたを戒められたのです」。
31:42 Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely you had sent me away now empty. God has seen mine affliction and the labour of my hands, and rebuked you last night.
31:43 ラバンは答えてヤコブに言った、「娘たちはわたしの娘、子どもたちはわたしの孫です。また群れはわたしの群れ、あなたの見るものはみなわたしのものです。これらのわたしの娘たちのため、また彼らが産んだ子どもたちのため、きょうわたしは何をすることができましょうか。
31:43 And Laban answered and said unto Jacob, These daughters are my daughters, and these children are my children, and these cattle are my cattle, and all that you see is mine: and what can I do this day unto these my daughters, or unto their children which they have born?
31:44 さあ、それではわたしとあなたと契約を結んで、これをわたしとあなたとの間の証拠としましょう」。
31:44 Now therefore come you, let us make a covenant, I and you; and let it be for a witness between me and you.
31:45 そこでヤコブは石を取り、それを立てて柱とした。
31:45 And Jacob took a stone, and set it up for a pillar.
31:46 ヤコブはまた一族の者に言った、「石を集めてください」。彼らは石を取って、一つの石塚を造った。こうして彼らはその石塚のかたわらで食事をした。
31:46 And Jacob said unto his brethren, Gather stones; and they took stones, and made an heap: and they did eat there upon the heap.
31:47 ラバンはこれをエガル・サハドタと名づけ、ヤコブはこれをガルエドと名づけた。
31:47 And Laban called it Jegarsahadutha: but Jacob called it Galeed.
31:48 そしてラバンは言った、「この石塚はきょうわたしとあなたとの間の証拠となります」。それでその名はガルエドと呼ばれた。
31:48 And Laban said, This heap is a witness between me and you this day. Therefore was the name of it called Galeed;
31:49 またミズパとも呼ばれた。彼がこう言ったからである、「われわれが互に別れたのちも、どうか主がわたしとあなたとの間を見守られるように。
31:49 And Mizpah; for he said, The LORD watch between me and you, when we are absent one from another.
31:50 もしあなたがわたしの娘を虐待したり、わたしの娘のほかに妻をめとることがあれば、たといそこにだれひとりいなくても、神はわたしとあなたとの間の証人でいらせられる」。
31:50 If you shall afflict my daughters, or if you shall take other wives beside my daughters, no man is with us; see, God is witness between me and you.
31:51 更にラバンはヤコブに言った、「あなたとわたしとの間にわたしが建てたこの石塚をごらんなさい、この柱をごらんなさい。
31:51 And Laban said to Jacob, Behold this heap, and behold this pillar, which I have cast between me and you:
31:52 この石塚を越えてわたしがあなたに害を加えず、またこの石塚とこの柱を越えてあなたがわたしに害を加えないように、どうかこの石塚があかしとなり、この柱があかしとなるように。
31:52 This heap be witness, and this pillar be witness, that I will not pass over this heap to you, and that you shall not pass over this heap and this pillar unto me, for harm.
31:53 どうかアブラハムの神、ナホルの神、彼らの父の神がわれわれの間をさばかれるように」。ヤコブは父イサクのかしこむ者によって誓った。
31:53 The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge between us. And Jacob swore by the fear of his father Isaac.
31:54 そしてヤコブは山で犠牲をささげ、一族を招いて、食事をした。彼らは食事をして山に宿った。
31:54 Then Jacob offered sacrifice upon the mount, and called his brethren to eat bread: and they did eat bread, and tarried all night in the mount.
31:55 あくる朝ラバンは早く起き、孫と娘たちに口づけして彼らを祝福し、去って家に帰った。
31:55 And early in the morning Laban rose up, and kissed his sons and his daughters, and blessed them: and Laban departed, and returned unto his place.
32:1 さて、ヤコブが旅路に進んだとき、神の使たちが彼に会った。
32:1 And Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him.
32:2 ヤコブは彼らを見て、「これは神の陣営です」と言って、その所の名をマハナイムと名づけた。
32:2 And when Jacob saw them, he said, This is God's host: and he called the name of that place Mahanaim.
32:3 ヤコブはセイルの地、エドムの野に住む兄エサウのもとに、さきだって使者をつかわした。
32:3 And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Seir, the country of Edom.
32:4 すなわちそれに命じて言った、「あなたがたはわたしの主人エサウにこう言いなさい、『あなたのしもべヤコブはこう言いました。わたしはラバンのもとに寄留して今までとどまりました。
32:4 And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall all of you speak unto my lord Esau; Your servant Jacob says thus, I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed there until now:
32:5 わたしは牛、ろば、羊、男女の奴隷を持っています。それでわが主に申し上げて、あなたの前に恵みを得ようと人をつかわしたのです』」。
32:5 And I have oxen, and asses, flocks, and male servants, and female servants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in your sight.
32:6 使者はヤコブのもとに帰って言った、「わたしたちはあなたの兄エサウのもとへ行きました。彼もまたあなたを迎えようと四百人を率いてきます」。
32:6 And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to your brother Esau, and also he comes to meet you, and four hundred men with him.
32:7 そこでヤコブは大いに恐れ、苦しみ、共にいる民および羊、牛、らくだを二つの組に分けて、
32:7 Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed: and he divided the people that was with him, and the flocks, and herds, and the camels, into two bands;
32:8 言った、「たとい、エサウがきて、一つの組を撃っても、残りの組はのがれるであろう」。
32:8 And said, If Esau come to the one company, and strike it, then the other company which is left shall escape.
32:9 ヤコブはまた言った、「父アブラハムの神、父イサクの神よ、かつてわたしに『おまえの国へ帰り、おまえの親族に行け。わたしはおまえを恵もう』と言われた主よ、
32:9 And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD which said unto me, Return unto your country, and to your kindred, and I will deal well with you:
32:10 あなたがしもべに施されたすべての恵みとまことをわたしは受けるに足りない者です。わたしは、つえのほか何も持たないでこのヨルダンを渡りましたが、今は二つの組にもなりました。
32:10 I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which you have showed unto your servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands.
32:11 どうぞ、兄エサウの手からわたしをお救いください。わたしは彼がきて、わたしを撃ち、母や子供たちにまで及ぶのを恐れます。
32:11 Deliver me, I pray you, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he will come and strike me, and the mother with the children.
32:12 あなたは、かつて、『わたしは必ずおまえを恵み、おまえの子孫を海の砂の数えがたいほど多くしよう』と言われました」。
32:12 And you said, I will surely do you good, and make your seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.
32:13 彼はその夜そこに宿り、持ち物のうちから兄エサウへの贈り物を選んだ。
32:13 And he lodged there that same night; and took of that which came to his hand a present for Esau his brother;
32:14 すなわち雌やぎ二百、雄やぎ二十、雌羊二百、雄羊二十、
32:14 Two hundred she goats, and twenty he goats, two hundred ewes, and twenty rams,
32:15 乳らくだ三十とその子、雌牛四十、雄牛十、雌ろば二十、雄ろば十。
32:15 Thirty milk giving camels with their colts, forty cattle, and ten bulls, twenty she asses, and ten foals.
32:16 彼はこれらをそれぞれの群れに分けて、しもべたちの手にわたし、しもべたちに言った、「あなたがたはわたしの先に進みなさい、そして群れと群れとの間には隔たりをおきなさい」。
32:16 And he delivered them into the hand of his servants, every drove by themselves; and said unto his servants, Pass over before me, and put a space between drove and drove.
32:17 また先頭の者に命じて言った、「もし、兄エサウがあなたに会って『だれのしもべで、どこへ行くのか。あなたの前にあるこれらのものはだれの物か』と尋ねたら、
32:17 And he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau my brother meet you, and asks you, saying, Whose are you? and where go you? and whose are these before you?
32:18 『あなたのしもべヤコブの物で、わが主エサウにおくる贈り物です。彼もわたしたちのうしろにおります』と言いなさい」。
32:18 Then you shall say, They be your servant Jacob's; it is a present sent unto my lord Esau: and, behold, also he is behind us.
32:19 彼は第二の者にも、第三の者にも、また群れ群れについて行くすべての者にも命じて言った、「あなたがたがエサウに会うときは、同じように彼に告げて、
32:19 And so commanded he the second, and the third, and all that followed the droves, saying, On this manner shall all of you speak unto Esau, when all of you find him.
32:20 『あなたのしもべヤコブもわれわれのうしろにおります』と言いなさい」。ヤコブは、「わたしがさきに送る贈り物をもってまず彼をなだめ、それから、彼の顔を見よう。そうすれば、彼はわたしを迎えてくれるであろう」と思ったからである。
32:20 And say all of you moreover, Behold, your servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goes before me, and afterward I will see his face; possibly he will accept of me.
32:21 こうして贈り物は彼に先立って渡り、彼はその夜、宿営にやどった。
32:21 So went the present over before him: and himself lodged that night in the company.
32:22 彼はその夜起きて、ふたりの妻とふたりのつかえめと十一人の子どもとを連れてヤボクの渡しをわたった。
32:22 And he rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two female servants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford Jabbok.
32:23 すなわち彼らを導いて川を渡らせ、また彼の持ち物を渡らせた。
32:23 And he took them, and sent them over the brook, and sent over that he had.
32:24 ヤコブはひとりあとに残ったが、ひとりの人が、夜明けまで彼と組打ちした。
32:24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.
32:25 ところでその人はヤコブに勝てないのを見て、ヤコブのもものつがいにさわったので、ヤコブのもものつがいが、その人と組打ちするあいだにはずれた。
32:25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.
32:26 その人は言った、「夜が明けるからわたしを去らせてください」。ヤコブは答えた、「わたしを祝福してくださらないなら、あなたを去らせません」。
32:26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaks. And he said, I will not let you go, except you bless me.
32:27 その人は彼に言った、「あなたの名はなんと言いますか」。彼は答えた、「ヤコブです」。
32:27 And he said unto him, What is your name? And he said, Jacob.
32:28 その人は言った、「あなたはもはや名をヤコブと言わず、イスラエルと言いなさい。あなたが神と人とに、力を争って勝ったからです」。
32:28 And he said, Your name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince have you power with God and with men, and have prevailed.
32:29 ヤコブは尋ねて言った、「どうかわたしにあなたの名を知らせてください」。するとその人は、「なぜあなたはわたしの名をきくのですか」と言ったが、その所で彼を祝福した。
32:29 And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray you, your name. And he said, Wherefore is it that you do ask after my name? And he blessed him there.
32:30 そこでヤコブはその所の名をペニエルと名づけて言った、「わたしは顔と顔をあわせて神を見たが、なお生きている」。
32:30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.
32:31 こうして彼がペニエルを過ぎる時、日は彼の上にのぼったが、彼はそのもものゆえに歩くのが不自由になっていた。
32:31 And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.
32:32 そのため、イスラエルの子らは今日まで、もものつがいの上にある腰の筋を食べない。かの人がヤコブのもものつがい、すなわち腰の筋にさわったからである。
32:32 Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob's thigh in the sinew that shrank.
33:1 さてヤコブは目をあげ、エサウが四百人を率いて来るのを見た。そこで彼は子供たちを分けてレアとラケルとふたりのつかえめとにわたし、
33:1 And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau came, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah, and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids.
33:2 つかえめとその子供たちをまっ先に置き、レアとその子供たちを次に置き、ラケルとヨセフを最後に置いて、
33:2 And he put the handmaids and their children foremost, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph hindermost.
33:3 みずから彼らの前に進み、七たび身を地にかがめて、兄に近づいた。
33:3 And he passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.
33:4 するとエサウは走ってきて迎え、彼を抱き、そのくびをかかえて口づけし、共に泣いた。
33:4 And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.
33:5 エサウは目をあげて女と子供たちを見て言った、「あなたと一緒にいるこれらの者はだれですか」。ヤコブは言った、「神がしもべに授けられた子供たちです」。
33:5 And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with you? And he said, The children which God has graciously given your servant.
33:6 そこでつかえめたちはその子供たちと共に近寄ってお辞儀した。
33:6 Then the handmaidens came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves.
33:7 レアもまたその子供たちと共に近寄ってお辞儀し、それからヨセフとラケルが近寄ってお辞儀した。
33:7 And Leah also with her children came near, and bowed themselves: and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they bowed themselves.
33:8 するとエサウは言った、「わたしが出会ったあのすべての群れはどうしたのですか」。ヤコブは言った、「わが主の前に恵みを得るためです」。
33:8 And he said, What mean you by all this drove which I met? And he said, These are to find grace in the sight of my lord.
33:9 エサウは言った、「弟よ、わたしはじゅうぶんもっている。あなたの物はあなたのものにしなさい」。
33:9 And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep that you have unto yourself.
33:10 ヤコブは言った、「いいえ、もしわたしがあなたの前に恵みを得るなら、どうか、わたしの手から贈り物を受けてください。あなたが喜んでわたしを迎えてくださるので、あなたの顔を見て、神の顔を見るように思います。
33:10 And Jacob said, Nay, I pray you, if now I have found grace in your sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen your face, as though I had seen the face of God, and you were pleased with me.
33:11 どうかわたしが持ってきた贈り物を受けてください。神がわたしを恵まれたので、わたしはじゅうぶんもっていますから」。こうして彼がしいたので、彼は受け取った。
33:11 Take, I pray you, my blessing that is brought to you; because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took it.
33:12 そしてエサウは言った、「さあ、立って行こう。わたしが先に行く」。
33:12 And he said, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before you.
33:13 ヤコブは彼に言った、「ごぞんじのように、子供たちは、かよわく、また乳を飲ませている羊や牛をわたしが世話をしています。もし一日でも歩かせ過ぎたら群れはみな死んでしまいます。
33:13 And he said unto him, My lord knows that the children are tender, and the flocks and herds with young are with me: and if men should beat them one day, all the flock will die.
33:14 わが主よ、どうか、しもべの先においでください。わたしはわたしの前にいる家畜と子供たちの歩みに合わせて、ゆっくり歩いて行き、セイルでわが主と一緒になりましょう」。
33:14 Let my lord, I pray you, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on softly, according as the cattle that goes before me and the children be able to endure, until I come unto my lord unto Seir.
33:15 エサウは言った、「それならわたしが連れている者どものうち幾人かをあなたのもとに残しましょう」。ヤコブは言った、「いいえ、それには及びません。わが主の前に恵みを得させてください」。
33:15 And Esau said, Let me now leave with you some of the folk that are with me. And he said, What needs it? let me find grace in the sight of my lord.
33:16 その日エサウはセイルへの帰途についた。
33:16 So Esau returned that day on his way unto Seir.
33:17 ヤコブは立ってスコテに行き、自分のために家を建て、また家畜のために小屋を造った。これによってその所の名はスコテと呼ばれている。
33:17 And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him an house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.
33:18 こうしてヤコブはパダンアラムからきて、無事カナンの地のシケムの町に着き、町の前に宿営した。
33:18 And Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padanaram; and pitched his tent before the city.
33:19 彼は天幕を張った野の一部をシケムの父ハモルの子らの手から百ケシタで買い取り、
33:19 And he bought a parcel of a field, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem's father, for an hundred pieces of money.
33:20 そこに祭壇を建てて、これをエル・エロヘ・イスラエルと名づけた。
33:20 And he erected there an altar, and called it EleloheIsrael.
34:1 レアがヤコブに産んだ娘デナはその地の女たちに会おうと出かけて行ったが、
34:1 And Dinah the daughter of Leah, which she bare unto Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land.
34:2 その地のつかさ、ヒビびとハモルの子シケムが彼女を見て、引き入れ、これと寝てはずかしめた。
34:2 And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he took her, and lay with her, and defiled her.
34:3 彼は深くヤコブの娘デナを慕い、この娘を愛して、ねんごろに娘に語った。
34:3 And his soul clave unto Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the damsel, and spoke kindly unto the damsel.
34:4 シケムは父ハモルに言った、「この娘をわたしの妻にめとってください」。
34:4 And Shechem spoke unto his father Hamor, saying, Get me this damsel to wife.
34:5 さてヤコブはシケムが、娘デナを汚したことを聞いたけれども、その子らが家畜を連れて野にいたので、彼らの帰るまで黙っていた。
34:5 And Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter: now his sons were with his cattle in the field: and Jacob held his peace until they were come.
34:6 シケムの父ハモルはヤコブと話し合おうと、ヤコブの所に出てきた。
34:6 And Hamor the father of Shechem went out unto Jacob to commune with him.
34:7 ヤコブの子らは野から帰り、この事を聞いて、悲しみ、かつ非常に怒った。シケムがヤコブの娘と寝て、イスラエルに愚かなことをしたためで、こんなことは、してはならぬ事だからである。
34:7 And the sons of Jacob came out of the field when they heard it: and the men were grieved, and they were very angry, because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob's daughter: which thing ought not to be done.
34:8 ハモルは彼らと語って言った、「わたしの子シケムはあなたがたの娘を心に慕っています。どうか彼女を彼の妻にください。
34:8 And Hamor communed with them, saying, The soul of my son Shechem longs for your daughter: I pray you give her him to wife.
34:9 あなたがたはわたしたちと婚姻し、あなたがたの娘をわたしたちに与え、わたしたちの娘をあなたがたにめとってください。
34:9 And make all of you marriages with us, and give your daughters unto us, and take our daughters unto you.
34:10 こうしてあなたがたとわたしたちとは一緒に住みましょう。地はあなたがたの前にあります。ここに住んで取引し、ここで財産を獲なさい」。
34:10 And all of you shall dwell with us: and the land shall be before you; dwell and trade all of you therein, and get you possessions therein.
34:11 シケムはまたデナの父と兄弟たちとに言った、「あなたがたの前に恵みを得させてください。あなたがたがわたしに言われるものは、なんでもさしあげましょう。
34:11 And Shechem said unto her father and unto her brethren, Let me find grace in your eyes, and what all of you shall say unto me I will give.
34:12 たくさんの結納金と贈り物とをお求めになっても、あなたがたの言われるとおりさしあげます。ただこの娘はわたしの妻にください」。
34:12 Ask me never so much dowry and gift, and I will give according as all of you shall say unto me: but give me the damsel to wife.
34:13 しかし、ヤコブの子らはシケムが彼らの妹デナを汚したので、シケムとその父ハモルに偽って答え、
34:13 And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully, and said, because he had defiled Dinah their sister:
34:14 彼らに言った、「われわれは割礼を受けない者に妹をやる事はできません。それはわれわれの恥とするところですから。
34:14 And they said unto them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one that is uncircumcised; for that were a reproach unto us:
34:15 ただ、こうなさればわれわれはあなたがたに同意します。もしあなたがたのうち男子がみな割礼を受けて、われわれのようになるなら、
34:15 But in this will we consent unto you: If all of you will be as we be, that every male of you be circumcised;
34:16 われわれの娘をあなたがたに与え、あなたがたの娘をわれわれにめとりましょう。そしてわれわれはあなたがたと一緒に住んで一つの民となりましょう。
34:16 Then will we give our daughters unto you, and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.
34:17 けれども、もしあなたがたがわれわれに聞かず、割礼を受けないなら、われわれは娘を連れて行きます」。
34:17 But if all of you will not hearken unto us, to be circumcised; then will we take our daughter, and we will be gone.
34:18 彼らの言葉がハモルとハモルの子シケムとの心にかなったので、
34:18 And their words pleased Hamor, and Shechem Hamor's son.
34:19 若者は、ためらわずにこの事をした。彼がヤコブの娘を愛したからである。また彼は父の家のうちで一番重んじられた者であった。
34:19 And the young man deferred not to do the thing, because he had delight in Jacob's daughter: and he was more honourable than all the house of his father.
34:20 そこでハモルとその子シケムとは町の門に行き、町の人々に語って言った、
34:20 And Hamor and Shechem his son came unto the gate of their city, and communed with the men of their city, saying,
34:21 「この人々はわれわれと親しいから、この地に住まわせて、ここで取引をさせよう。地は広く、彼らをいれるにじゅうぶんである。そしてわれわれは彼らの娘を妻にめとり、われわれの娘を彼らに与えよう。
34:21 These men are peaceable with us; therefore let them dwell in the land, and trade therein; for the land, behold, it is large enough for them; let us take their daughters to us for wives, and let us give them our daughters.
34:22 彼らが割礼を受けているように、もしわれわれのうちの男子が皆、割礼を受けるなら、ただこの事だけで、この人々はわれわれに同意し、われわれと一緒に住んで一つの民となるのだ。
34:22 Only herein will the men consent unto us in order to dwell with us, to be one people, if every male among us be circumcised, as they are circumcised.
34:23 そうすれば彼らの家畜と財産とすべての獣とは、われわれのものとなるではないか。ただわれわれが彼らに同意すれば、彼らはわれわれと一緒に住むであろう」。
34:23 Shall not their cattle and their substance and every beast of their's be our's? only let us consent unto them, and they will dwell with us.
34:24 そこで町の門に出入りする者はみなハモルとその子シケムとに聞き従って、町の門に出入りするすべての男子は割礼を受けた。
34:24 And unto Hamor and unto Shechem his son hearkened all that went out of the gate of his city; and every male was circumcised, all that went out of the gate of his city.
34:25 三日目になって彼らが痛みを覚えている時、ヤコブのふたりの子、すなわちデナの兄弟シメオンとレビとは、おのおのつるぎを取って、不意に町を襲い、男子をことごとく殺し、
34:25 And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brethren, took each man his sword, and came upon the city boldly, and slew all the males.
34:26 またつるぎの刃にかけてハモルとその子シケムとを殺し、シケムの家からデナを連れ出した。
34:26 And they slew Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem's house, and went out.
34:27 そしてヤコブの子らは殺された人々をはぎ、町をかすめた。彼らが妹を汚したからである。
34:27 The sons of Jacob came upon the slain, and spoiled the city, because they had defiled their sister.
34:28 すなわち羊、牛、ろば及び町にあるものと、野にあるもの、
34:28 They took their sheep, and their oxen, and their asses, and that which was in the city, and that which was in the field,
34:29 並びにすべての貨財を奪い、その子女と妻たちを皆とりこにし、家の中にある物をことごとくかすめた。
34:29 And all their wealth, and all their little ones, and their wives took they captive, and spoiled even all that was in the house.
34:30 そこでヤコブはシメオンとレビとに言った、「あなたがたはわたしをこの地の住民、カナンびととペリジびとに忌みきらわせ、わたしに迷惑をかけた。わたしは、人数が少ないから、彼らが集まってわたしを攻め撃つならば、わたしも家族も滅ぼされるであろう」。
34:30 And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, All of you have troubled me to make me to stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites: and I being few in number, they shall gather themselves together against me, and slay me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my house.
34:31 彼らは言った、「わたしたちの妹を遊女のように彼が扱ってよいのですか」。
34:31 And they said, Should he deal with our sister as with an harlot?
35:1 ときに神はヤコブに言われた、「あなたは立ってベテルに上り、そこに住んで、あなたがさきに兄エサウの顔を避けてのがれる時、あなたに現れた神に祭壇を造りなさい」。
35:1 And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.
35:2 ヤコブは、その家族および共にいるすべての者に言った、「あなたがたのうちにある異なる神々を捨て、身を清めて着物を着替えなさい。
35:2 Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:
35:3 われわれは立ってベテルに上り、その所でわたしの苦難の日にわたしにこたえ、かつわたしの行く道で共におられた神に祭壇を造ろう」。
35:3 And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.
35:4 そこで彼らは持っている異なる神々と、耳につけている耳輪をことごとくヤコブに与えたので、ヤコブはこれをシケムのほとりにあるテレビンの木の下に埋めた。
35:4 And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.
35:5 そして彼らは、いで立ったが、大いなる恐れが周囲の町々に起ったので、ヤコブの子らのあとを追う者はなかった。
35:5 And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.
35:6 こうしてヤコブは共にいたすべての人々と一緒にカナンの地にあるルズ、すなわちベテルにきた。
35:6 So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.
35:7 彼はそこに祭壇を築き、その所をエル・ベテルと名づけた。彼が兄の顔を避けてのがれる時、神がそこで彼に現れたからである。
35:7 And he built there an altar, and called the place Elbethel: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.
35:8 時にリベカのうばデボラが死んで、ベテルのしもの、かしの木の下に葬られた。これによってその木の名をアロン・バクテと呼ばれた。
35:8 But Deborah Rebekah's nurse died, and she was buried beneath Bethel under an oak: and the name of it was called Allonbachuth.
35:9 さてヤコブがパダンアラムから帰ってきた時、神は再び彼に現れて彼を祝福された。
35:9 And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padanaram, and blessed him.
35:10 神は彼に言われた、「あなたの名はヤコブである。しかしあなたの名をもはやヤコブと呼んではならない。あなたの名をイスラエルとしなさい」。こうして彼をイスラエルと名づけられた。
35:10 And God said unto him, Your name is Jacob: your name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be your name: and he called his name Israel.
35:11 神はまた彼に言われた、／「わたしは全能の神である。あなたは生めよ、またふえよ。一つの国民、また多くの国民があなたから出て、／王たちがあなたの身から出るであろう。
35:11 And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of you, and kings shall come out of your loins;
35:12 わたしはアブラハムとイサクとに与えた地を、／あなたに与えよう。またあなたの後の子孫にその地を与えよう」。
35:12 And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to you I will give it, and to your seed after you will I give the land.
35:13 神は彼と語っておられたその場所から彼を離れてのぼられた。
35:13 And God went up from him in the place where he talked with him.
35:14 そこでヤコブは神が自分と語られたその場所に、一本の石の柱を立て、その上に灌祭をささげ、また油を注いだ。
35:14 And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink offering thereon, and he poured oil thereon.
35:15 そしてヤコブは神が自分と語られたその場所をベテルと名づけた。
35:15 And Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him, Bethel.
35:16 こうして彼らはベテルを立ったが、エフラタに行き着くまでに、なお隔たりのある所でラケルは産気づき、その産は重かった。
35:16 And they journeyed from Bethel; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour.
35:17 その難産に当って、産婆は彼女に言った、「心配することはありません。今度も男の子です」。
35:17 And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; you shall have this son also.
35:18 彼女は死にのぞみ、魂の去ろうとする時、子の名をベノニと呼んだ。しかし、父はこれをベニヤミンと名づけた。
35:18 And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin.
35:19 ラケルは死んでエフラタ、すなわちベツレヘムの道に葬られた。
35:19 And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.
35:20 ヤコブはその墓に柱を立てた。これはラケルの墓の柱であって、今日に至っている。
35:20 And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel's grave unto this day.
35:21 イスラエルはまた、いで立ってミグダル・エダルの向こうに天幕を張った。
35:21 And Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar.
35:22 イスラエルがその地に住んでいた時、ルベンは父のそばめビルハのところへ行って、これと寝た。イスラエルはこれを聞いた。さてヤコブの子らは十二人であった。
35:22 And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father's concubine: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:
35:23 すなわちレアの子らはヤコブの長子ルベンとシメオン、レビ、ユダ、イッサカル、ゼブルン。
35:23 The sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun:
35:24 ラケルの子らはヨセフとベニヤミン。
35:24 The sons of Rachel; Joseph, and Benjamin:
35:25 ラケルのつかえめビルハの子らはダンとナフタリ。
35:25 And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid; Dan, and Naphtali:
35:26 レアのつかえめジルパの子らはガドとアセル。これらはヤコブの子らであって、パダンアラムで彼に生れた者である。
35:26 And the sons of Zilpah, Leah's handmaid: Gad, and Asher: these are the sons of Jacob, which were born to him in Padanaram.
35:27 ヤコブはキリアテ・アルバ、すなわちヘブロンのマムレにいる父イサクのもとへ行った。ここはアブラハムとイサクとが寄留した所である。
35:27 And Jacob came unto Isaac his father unto Mamre, unto the city of Arbah, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.
35:28 イサクの年は百八十歳であった。
35:28 And the days of Isaac were an hundred and fourscore years.
35:29 イサクは年老い、日満ちて息絶え、死んで、その民に加えられた。その子エサウとヤコブとは、これを葬った。
35:29 And Isaac gave up the spirit, and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
36:1 エサウ、すなわちエドムの系図は次のとおりである。
36:1 Now these are the generations of Esau, who is Edom.
36:2 エサウはカナンの娘たちのうちから妻をめとった。すなわちヘテびとエロンの娘アダと、ヒビびとヂベオンの子アナの娘アホリバマとである。
36:2 Esau took his wives of the daughters of Canaan; Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Aholibamah the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite;
36:3 また、イシマエルの娘ネバヨテの妹バスマテをめとった。
36:3 And Bashemath Ishmael's daughter, sister of Nebajoth.
36:4 アダはエリパズをエサウに産み、バスマテはリウエルを産み、
36:4 And Adah bare to Esau Eliphaz; and Bashemath bare Reuel;
36:5 アホリバマはエウシ、ヤラム、コラを産んだ。これらはエサウの子であって、カナンの地で彼に生れた者である。
36:5 And Aholibamah bare Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah: these are the sons of Esau, which were born unto him in the land of Canaan.
36:6 エサウは妻と子と娘と家のすべての人、家畜とすべての獣、またカナンの地で獲たすべての財産を携え、兄弟ヤコブを離れてほかの地へ行った。
36:6 And Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons of his house, and his cattle, and all his beasts, and all his substance, which he had got in the land of Canaan; and went into the country from the face of his brother Jacob.
36:7 彼らの財産が多くて、一緒にいることができなかったからである。すなわち彼らが寄留した地は彼らの家畜のゆえに、彼らをささえることができなかったのである。
36:7 For their riches were more than that they might dwell together; and the land wherein they were strangers could not bear them because of their cattle.
36:8 こうしてエサウはセイルの山地に住んだ。エサウはすなわちエドムである。
36:8 Thus dwelt Esau in mount Seir: Esau is Edom.
36:9 セイルの山地におったエドムびとの先祖エサウの系図は次のとおりである。
36:9 And these are the generations of Esau the father of the Edomites in mount Seir:
36:10 エサウの子らの名は次のとおりである。すなわちエサウの妻アダの子はエリパズ。エサウの妻バスマテの子はリウエル。
36:10 These are the names of Esau's sons; Eliphaz the son of Adah the wife of Esau, Reuel the son of Bashemath the wife of Esau.
36:11 エリパズの子らはテマン、オマル、ゼポ、ガタム、ケナズである。
36:11 And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, and Gatam, and Kenaz.
36:12 テムナはエサウの子エリパズのそばめで、アマレクをエリパズに産んだ。これらはエサウの妻アダの子らである。
36:12 And Timna was concubine to Eliphaz Esau's son; and she bare to Eliphaz Amalek: these were the sons of Adah Esau's wife.
36:13 リウエルの子らは次のとおりである。すなわちナハテ、ゼラ、シャンマ、ミザであって、これらはエサウの妻バスマテの子らである。
36:13 And these are the sons of Reuel; Nahath, and Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah: these were the sons of Bashemath Esau's wife.
36:14 ヂベオンの子アナの娘で、エサウの妻アホリバマの子らは次のとおりである。すなわち彼女はエウシ、ヤラム、コラをエサウに産んだ。
36:14 And these were the sons of Aholibamah, the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon, Esau's wife: and she bare to Esau Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah.
36:15 エサウの子らの中で、族長たる者は次のとおりである。すなわちエサウの長子エリパズの子らはテマンの族長、オマルの族長、ゼポの族長、ケナズの族長、
36:15 These were dukes of the sons of Esau: the sons of Eliphaz the firstborn son of Esau; duke Teman, duke Omar, duke Zepho, duke Kenaz,
36:16 コラの族長、ガタムの族長、アマレクの族長である。これらはエリパズから出た族長で、エドムの地におった。これらはアダの子らである。
36:16 Duke Korah, duke Gatam, and duke Amalek: these are the dukes that came of Eliphaz in the land of Edom; these were the sons of Adah.
36:17 エサウの子リウエルの子らは次のとおりである。すなわちナハテの族長、ゼラの族長、シャンマの族長、ミザの族長。これらはリウエルから出た族長で、エドムの地におった。これらはエサウの妻バスマテの子らである。
36:17 And these are the sons of Reuel Esau's son; duke Nahath, duke Zerah, duke Shammah, duke Mizzah: these are the dukes that came of Reuel in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Bashemath Esau's wife.
36:18 エサウの妻アホリバマの子らは次のとおりである。すなわちエウシの族長、ヤラムの族長、コラの族長。これらはアナの娘で、エサウの妻アホリバマから出た族長である。
36:18 And these are the sons of Aholibamah Esau's wife; duke Jeush, duke Jaalam, duke Korah: these were the dukes that came of Aholibamah the daughter of Anah, Esau's wife.
36:19 これらはエサウすなわちエドムの子らで、族長たる者である。
36:19 These are the sons of Esau, who is Edom, and these are their dukes.
36:20 この地の住民ホリびとセイルの子らは次のとおりである。すなわちロタン、ショバル、ヂベオン、アナ、
36:20 These are the sons of Seir the Horite, who inhabited the land; Lotan, and Shobal, and Zibeon, and Anah,
36:21 デション、エゼル、デシャン。これらはセイルの子ホリびとから出た族長で、エドムの地におった。
36:21 And Dishon, and Ezer, and Dishan: these are the dukes of the Horites, the children of Seir in the land of Edom.
36:22 ロタンの子らはホリ、ヘマムであり、ロタンの妹はテムナであった。
36:22 And the children of Lotan were Hori and Hemam; and Lotan's sister was Timna.
36:23 ショバルの子らは次のとおりである。すなわちアルワン、マナハテ、エバル、シポ、オナム。
36:23 And the children of Shobal were these; Alvan, and Manahath, and Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.
36:24 ヂベオンの子らは次のとおりである。すなわちアヤとアナ。このアナは父ヂベオンのろばを飼っていた時、荒野で温泉を発見した者である。
36:24 And these are the children of Zibeon; both Ajah, and Anah: this was that Anah that found the mules in the wilderness, as he fed the asses of Zibeon his father.
36:25 アナの子らは次のとおりである。すなわちデションとアホリバマ。アホリバマはアナの娘である。
36:25 And the children of Anah were these; Dishon, and Aholibamah the daughter of Anah.
36:26 デションの子らは次のとおりである。すなわちヘムダン、エシバン、イテラン、ケラン。
36:26 And these are the children of Dishon; Hemdan, and Eshban, and Ithran, and Cheran.
36:27 エゼルの子らは次のとおりである。すなわちビルハン、ザワン、アカン。
36:27 The children of Ezer are these; Bilhan, and Zaavan, and Akan.
36:28 デシャンの子らは次のとおりである。すなわちウズとアラン。
36:28 The children of Dishan are these; Uz, and Aran.

36:30 Duke Dishon, duke Ezer, duke Dishan: these are the dukes that came of Hori, among their dukes in the land of Seir.
36:31 イスラエルの人々を治める王がまだなかった時、エドムの地を治めた王たちは次のとおりである。
36:31 And these are the kings that reigned in the land of Edom, before there reigned any king over the children of Israel.
36:32 ベオルの子ベラはエドムを治め、その都の名はデナバであった。
36:32 And Bela the son of Beor reigned in Edom: and the name of his city was Dinhabah.
36:33 ベラが死んで、ボズラのゼラの子ヨバブがこれに代って王となった。
36:33 And Bela died, and Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his position.
36:34 ヨバブが死んで、テマンびとの地のホシャムがこれに代って王となった。
36:34 And Jobab died, and Husham of the land of Temani reigned in his position.
36:35 ホシャムが死んで、ベダデの子ハダデがこれに代って王となった。彼はモアブの野でミデアンを撃った者である。その都の名はアビテであった。
36:35 And Husham died, and Hadad the son of Bedad, who stroke Midian in the field of Moab, reigned in his position: and the name of his city was Avith.
36:36 ハダデが死んで、マスレカのサムラがこれに代って王となった。
36:36 And Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his position.
36:37 サムラが死んでユフラテ川のほとりにあるレホボテのサウルがこれに代って王となった。
36:37 And Samlah died, and Saul of Rehoboth by the river reigned in his position.
36:38 サウルが死んでアクボルの子バアル・ハナンがこれに代って王となった。
36:38 And Saul died, and Baalhanan the son of Achbor reigned in his position.
36:39 アクボルの子バアル・ハナンが死んで、ハダルがこれに代って王となった。その都の名はパウであった。その妻の名はメヘタベルといって、メザハブの娘マテレデの娘であった。
36:39 And Baalhanan the son of Achbor died, and Hadar reigned in his position: and the name of his city was Pau; and his wife's name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezahab.
36:40 エサウから出た族長の名は、その氏族と住所と名に従って言えば次のとおりである。すなわちテムナの族長、アルワの族長、エテテの族長、
36:40 And these are the names of the dukes that came of Esau, according to their families, after their places, by their names; duke Timnah, duke Alvah, duke Jetheth,
36:41 アホリバマの族長、エラの族長、ピノンの族長、
36:41 Duke Aholibamah, duke Elah, duke Pinon,
36:42 ケナズの族長、テマンの族長、ミブザルの族長、
36:42 Duke Kenaz, duke Teman, duke Mibzar,
36:43 マグデエルの族長、イラムの族長。これらはエドムの族長たちであって、その領地内の住所に従っていったものである。エドムびとの先祖はエサウである。
36:43 Duke Magdiel, duke Iram: these be the dukes of Edom, according to their habitations in the land of their possession: he is Esau the father of the Edomites.
37:1 ヤコブは父の寄留の地、すなわちカナンの地に住んだ。
37:1 And Jacob dwelt in the land wherein his father was a stranger, in the land of Canaan.
37:2 ヤコブの子孫は次のとおりである。ヨセフは十七歳の時、兄弟たちと共に羊の群れを飼っていた。彼はまだ子供で、父の妻たちビルハとジルパとの子らと共にいたが、ヨセフは彼らの悪いうわさを父に告げた。
37:2 These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and the lad was with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives: and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report.
37:3 ヨセフは年寄り子であったから、イスラエルは他のどの子よりも彼を愛して、彼のために長そでの着物をつくった。
37:3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours.
37:4 兄弟たちは父がどの兄弟よりも彼を愛するのを見て、彼を憎み、穏やかに彼に語ることができなかった。
37:4 And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.
37:5 ある時、ヨセフは夢を見て、それを兄弟たちに話したので、彼らは、ますます彼を憎んだ。
37:5 And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.
37:6 ヨセフは彼らに言った、「どうぞわたしが見た夢を聞いてください。
37:6 And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:
37:7 わたしたちが畑の中で束を結わえていたとき、わたしの束が起きて立つと、あなたがたの束がまわりにきて、わたしの束を拝みました」。
37:7 For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made reverence to my sheaf.
37:8 すると兄弟たちは彼に向かって、「あなたはほんとうにわたしたちの王になるのか。あなたは実際わたしたちを治めるのか」と言って、彼の夢とその言葉のゆえにますます彼を憎んだ。
37:8 And his brethren said to him, Shall you indeed reign over us? or shall you indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words.
37:9 ヨセフはまた一つの夢を見て、それを兄弟たちに語って言った、「わたしはまた夢を見ました。日と月と十一の星とがわたしを拝みました」。
37:9 And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made reverence to me.
37:10 彼はこれを父と兄弟たちに語ったので、父は彼をとがめて言った、「あなたが見たその夢はどういうのか。ほんとうにわたしとあなたの母と、兄弟たちとが行って地に伏し、あなたを拝むのか」。
37:10 And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and your mother and your brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to you to the earth?
37:11 兄弟たちは彼をねたんだ。しかし父はこの言葉を心にとめた。
37:11 And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying.
37:12 さて兄弟たちがシケムに行って、父の羊の群れを飼っていたとき、
37:12 And his brethren went to feed their father's flock in Shechem.

37:13 And Israel said unto Joseph, Do not your brethren feed the flock in Shechem? come, and I will send you unto them. And he said to him, Here am I.
37:14 父は彼に言った、「どうか、行って、あなたの兄弟たちは無事であるか、また群れは無事であるか見てきて、わたしに知らせてください」。父が彼をヘブロンの谷からつかわしたので、彼はシケムに行った。
37:14 And he said to him, Go, I pray you, see whether it be well with your brethren, and well with the flocks; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.
37:15 ひとりの人が彼に会い、彼が野をさまよっていたので、その人は彼に尋ねて言った、「あなたは何を捜しているのですか」。
37:15 And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seek you?

37:16 And he said, I seek my brethren: tell me, I pray you, where they feed their flocks.

37:17 And the man said, They are departed behind; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan.
37:18 ヨセフが彼らに近づかないうちに、彼らははるかにヨセフを見て、これを殺そうと計り、
37:18 And when they saw him far off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him.
37:19 互に言った、「あの夢見る者がやって来る。
37:19 And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer comes.
37:20 さあ、彼を殺して穴に投げ入れ、悪い獣が彼を食ったと言おう。そして彼の夢がどうなるか見よう」。
37:20 Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast has devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams.
37:21 ルベンはこれを聞いて、ヨセフを彼らの手から救い出そうとして言った、「われわれは彼の命を取ってはならない」。
37:21 And Reuben heard it, and he delivered him out of their hands; and said, Let us not kill him.
37:22 ルベンはまた彼らに言った、「血を流してはいけない。彼を荒野のこの穴に投げ入れよう。彼に手をくだしてはならない」。これはヨセフを彼らの手から救いだして父に返すためであった。
37:22 And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood, but cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, and lay no hand upon him; that he might rid him out of their hands, to deliver him to his father again.
37:23 さて、ヨセフが兄弟たちのもとへ行くと、彼らはヨセフの着物、彼が着ていた長そでの着物をはぎとり、
37:23 And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stripped Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colours that was on him;
37:24 彼を捕えて穴に投げ入れた。その穴はからで、その中に水はなかった。
37:24 And they took him, and cast him into a pit: and the pit was empty, there was no water in it.
37:25 こうして彼らはすわってパンを食べた。時に彼らが目をあげて見ると、イシマエルびとの隊商が、らくだに香料と、乳香と、もつやくとを負わせてエジプトへ下り行こうとギレアデからやってきた。
37:25 And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ishmeelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing spices and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.
37:26 そこでユダは兄弟たちに言った、「われわれが弟を殺し、その血を隠して何の益があろう。
37:26 And Judah said unto his brethren, What profit is it if we slay our brother, and conceal his blood?
37:27 さあ、われわれは彼をイシマエルびとに売ろう。彼はわれわれの兄弟、われわれの肉身だから、彼に手を下してはならない」。兄弟たちはこれを聞き入れた。
37:27 Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content.
37:28 時にミデアンびとの商人たちが通りかかったので、彼らはヨセフを穴から引き上げ、銀二十シケルでヨセフをイシマエルびとに売った。彼らはヨセフをエジプトへ連れて行った。
37:28 Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt.
37:29 さてルベンは穴に帰って見たが、ヨセフが穴の中にいなかったので、彼は衣服を裂き、
37:29 And Reuben returned unto the pit; and, behold, Joseph was not in the pit; and he rent his clothes.
37:30 兄弟たちのもとに帰って言った、「あの子はいない。ああ、わたしはどこへ行くことができよう」。
37:30 And he returned unto his brethren, and said, The child is not; and I, where shall I go?
37:31 彼らはヨセフの着物を取り、雄やぎを殺して、着物をその血に浸し、
37:31 And they took Joseph's coat, and killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood;
37:32 その長そでの着物を父に持ち帰って言った、「わたしたちはこれを見つけましたが、これはあなたの子の着物か、どうか見さだめてください」。
37:32 And they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father; and said, This have we found: know now whether it be your son's coat or no.
37:33 父はこれを見さだめて言った、「わが子の着物だ。悪い獣が彼を食ったのだ。確かにヨセフはかみ裂かれたのだ」。
37:33 And he knew it, and said, It is my son's coat; an evil beast has devoured him; Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces.
37:34 そこでヤコブは衣服を裂き、荒布を腰にまとって、長い間その子のために嘆いた。
37:34 And Jacob rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days.
37:35 子らと娘らとは皆立って彼を慰めようとしたが、彼は慰められるのを拒んで言った、「いや、わたしは嘆きながら陰府に下って、わが子のもとへ行こう」。こうして父は彼のために泣いた。
37:35 And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him.
37:36 さて、かのミデアンびとらはエジプトでパロの役人、侍衛長ポテパルにヨセフを売った。
37:36 And the Midianites sold him into Egypt unto Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh's, and captain of the guard.
38:1 そのころユダは兄弟たちを離れて下り、アドラムびとで、名をヒラという者の所へ行った。
38:1 And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.
38:2 ユダはその所で、名をシュアというカナンびとの娘を見て、これをめとり、その所にはいった。
38:2 And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her.
38:3 彼女はみごもって男の子を産んだので、ユダは名をエルと名づけた。
38:3 And she conceived, and bare a son; and he called his name Er.
38:4 彼女は再びみごもって男の子を産み、名をオナンと名づけた。
38:4 And she conceived again, and bare a son; and she called his name Onan.
38:5 また重ねて、男の子を産み、名をシラと名づけた。彼女はこの男の子を産んだとき、クジブにおった。
38:5 And she yet again conceived, and bare a son; and called his name Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bare him.
38:6 ユダは長子エルのために、名をタマルという妻を迎えた。
38:6 And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Tamar.
38:7 しかしユダの長子エルは主の前に悪い者であったので、主は彼を殺された。
38:7 And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.
38:8 そこでユダはオナンに言った、「兄の妻の所にはいって、彼女をめとり、兄に子供を得させなさい」。
38:8 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto your brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to your brother.
38:9 しかしオナンはその子が自分のものとならないのを知っていたので、兄の妻の所にはいった時、兄に子を得させないために地に洩らした。
38:9 And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.
38:10 彼のした事は主の前に悪かったので、主は彼をも殺された。
38:10 And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.
38:11 そこでユダはその子の妻タマルに言った、「わたしの子シラが成人するまで、寡婦のままで、あなたの父の家にいなさい」。彼は、シラもまた兄弟たちのように死ぬかもしれないと、思ったからである。それでタマルは行って父の家におった。
38:11 Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter in law, Remain a widow at your father's house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said, Lest possibly he die also, as his brethren did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.
38:12 日がたってシュアの娘ユダの妻は死んだ。その後、ユダは喪を終ってその友アドラムびとヒラと共にテムナに上り、自分の羊の毛を切る者のところへ行った。
38:12 And in process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah's wife died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.
38:13 時に、ひとりの人がタマルに告げて、「あなたのしゅうとが羊の毛を切るためにテムナに上って来る」と言ったので、
38:13 And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold your father in law goes up to Timnath to shear his sheep.
38:14 彼女は寡婦の衣服を脱ぎすて、被衣で身をおおい隠して、テムナへ行く道のかたわらにあるエナイムの入口にすわっていた。彼女はシラが成人したのに、自分がその妻にされないのを知ったからである。
38:14 And she put her widow's garments off from her, and covered her with a vail, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the way to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given unto him to wife.
38:15 ユダは彼女を見たとき、彼女が顔をおおっていたため、遊女だと思い、
38:15 When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an harlot; because she had covered her face.
38:16 道のかたわらで彼女に向かって言った、「さあ、あなたの所にはいらせておくれ」。彼はこの女がわが子の妻であることを知らなかったからである。彼女は言った、「わたしの所にはいるため、何をくださいますか」。
38:16 And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray you, let me come in unto you; (for he knew not that she was his daughter in law.) And she said, What will you give me, that you may come in unto me?
38:17 ユダは言った、「群れのうちのやぎの子をあなたにあげよう」。彼女は言った、「それをくださるまで、しるしをわたしにくださいますか」。
38:17 And he said, I will send you a kid from the flock. And she said, Will you give me a pledge, till you send it?
38:18 ユダは言った、「どんなしるしをあげようか」。彼女は言った、「あなたの印と紐と、あなたの手にあるつえとを」。彼はこれらを与えて彼女の所にはいった。彼女はユダによってみごもった。
38:18 And he said, What pledge shall I give you? And she said, Your signet, and your bracelets, and your staff that is in yours hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.
38:19 彼女は起きて去り、被衣を脱いで寡婦の衣服を着た。
38:19 And she arose, and went away, and laid by her vail from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.
38:20 やがてユダはその女からしるしを取りもどそうと、その友アドラムびとに託してやぎの子を送ったけれども、その女を見いだせなかった。
38:20 And Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman's hand: but he found her not.
38:21 そこで彼はその所の人々に尋ねて言った、「エナイムで道のかたわらにいた遊女はどこにいますか」。彼らは言った、「ここには遊女はいません」。
38:21 Then he asked the men of that place, saying, Where is the harlot, that was openly by the way side? And they said, There was no harlot in this place.
38:22 彼はユダのもとに帰って言った、「わたしは彼女を見いだせませんでした。またその所の人々は、『ここには遊女はいない』と言いました」。
38:22 And he returned to Judah, and said, I cannot find her; and also the men of the place said, that there was no harlot in this place.
38:23 そこでユダは言った、「女に持たせておこう。わたしたちは恥をかくといけないから。とにかく、わたしはこのやぎの子を送ったが、あなたは彼女を見いだせなかったのだ」。
38:23 And Judah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be shamed: behold, I sent this kid, and you have not found her.
38:24 ところが三月ほどたって、ひとりの人がユダに言った、「あなたの嫁タマルは姦淫しました。そのうえ、彼女は姦淫によってみごもりました」。ユダは言った、「彼女を引き出して焼いてしまえ」。
38:24 And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar your daughter in law has played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.
38:25 彼女は引き出された時、そのしゅうとに人をつかわして言った、「わたしはこれをもっている人によって、みごもりました」。彼女はまた言った、「どうか、この印と、紐と、つえとはだれのものか、見定めてください」。
38:25 When she was brought forth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said, Discern, I pray you, whose are these, the signet, and bracelets, and staff.
38:26 ユダはこれを見定めて言った、「彼女はわたしよりも正しい。わたしが彼女をわが子シラに与えなかったためである」。彼は再び彼女を知らなかった。
38:26 And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She has been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he had sexual contact with her again no more.
38:27 さて彼女の出産の時がきたが、胎内には、ふたごがあった。
38:27 And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb.
38:28 出産の時に、ひとりの子が手を出したので、産婆は、「これがさきに出た」と言い、緋の糸を取って、その手に結んだ。
38:28 And it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first.
38:29 そして、その子が手をひっこめると、その弟が出たので、「どうしてあなたは自分で破って出るのか」と言った。これによって名はペレヅと呼ばれた。
38:29 And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How have you broken forth? this breach be upon you: therefore his name was called Pharez.
38:30 その後、手に緋の糸のある兄が出たので、名はゼラと呼ばれた。
38:30 And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zarah.
