15:1 これらの事の後、主の言葉が幻のうちにアブラムに臨んだ、／「アブラムよ恐れてはならない、／わたしはあなたの盾である。あなたの受ける報いは、／はなはだ大きいであろう」。
15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am your shield, and your exceeding great reward.
15:2 アブラムは言った、「主なる神よ、わたしには子がなく、わたしの家を継ぐ者はダマスコのエリエゼルであるのに、あなたはわたしに何をくださろうとするのですか」。
15:2 And Abram said, LORD God, what will you give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?
15:3 アブラムはまた言った、「あなたはわたしに子を賜わらないので、わたしの家に生れたしもべが、あとつぎとなるでしょう」。
15:3 And Abram said, Behold, to me you have given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
15:4 この時、主の言葉が彼に臨んだ、「この者はあなたのあとつぎとなるべきではありません。あなたの身から出る者があとつぎとなるべきです」。
15:4 And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be yours heir; but he that shall come forth out of yours own bowels shall be yours heir.
15:5 そして主は彼を外に連れ出して言われた、「天を仰いで、星を数えることができるなら、数えてみなさい」。また彼に言われた、「あなたの子孫はあのようになるでしょう」。
15:5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if you be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall your seed be.

15:6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
15:7 また主は彼に言われた、「わたしはこの地をあなたに与えて、これを継がせようと、あなたをカルデヤのウルから導き出した主です」。
15:7 And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought you out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give you this land to inherit it.
15:8 彼は言った、「主なる神よ、わたしがこれを継ぐのをどうして知ることができますか」。
15:8 And he said, LORD God, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?
15:9 主は彼に言われた、「三歳の雌牛と、三歳の雌やぎと、三歳の雄羊と、山ばとと、家ばとのひなとをわたしの所に連れてきなさい」。
15:9 And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.
15:10 彼はこれらをみな連れてきて、二つに裂き、裂いたものを互に向かい合わせて置いた。ただし、鳥は裂かなかった。
15:10 And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.
15:11 荒い鳥が死体の上に降りるとき、アブラムはこれを追い払った。
15:11 And when the fowls came down upon the carcasses, Abram drove them away.
15:12 日の入るころ、アブラムが深い眠りにおそわれた時、大きな恐ろしい暗やみが彼に臨んだ。
15:12 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.
15:13 時に主はアブラムに言われた、「あなたはよく心にとめておきなさい。あなたの子孫は他の国に旅びととなって、その人々に仕え、その人々は彼らを四百年の間、悩ますでしょう。
15:13 And he said unto Abram, Know certainly that your seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not their's, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
15:14 しかし、わたしは彼らが仕えたその国民をさばきます。その後かれらは多くの財産を携えて出て来るでしょう。
15:14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.
15:15 あなたは安らかに先祖のもとに行きます。そして高齢に達して葬られるでしょう。
15:15 And you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age.
15:16 四代目になって彼らはここに帰って来るでしょう。アモリびとの悪がまだ満ちないからです」。
15:16 But in the fourth generation they shall come here again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.

15:17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
15:18 その日、主はアブラムと契約を結んで言われた、／「わたしはこの地をあなたの子孫に与える。エジプトの川から、かの大川ユフラテまで。
15:18 In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto your seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:
15:19 すなわちケニびと、ケニジびと、カドモニびと、
15:19 The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,
15:20 ヘテびと、ペリジびと、レパイムびと、
15:20 And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims,
15:21 アモリびと、カナンびと、ギルガシびと、エブスびとの地を与える」。
15:21 And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.
16:1 アブラムの妻サライは子を産まなかった。彼女にひとりのつかえめがあった。エジプトの女で名をハガルといった。
16:1 Now Sarai Abram's wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.
16:2 サライはアブラムに言った、「主はわたしに子をお授けになりません。どうぞ、わたしのつかえめの所におはいりください。彼女によってわたしは子をもつことになるでしょう」。アブラムはサライの言葉を聞きいれた。
16:2 And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD has restrained me from bearing: I pray you, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.
16:3 アブラムの妻サライはそのつかえめエジプトの女ハガルをとって、夫アブラムに妻として与えた。これはアブラムがカナンの地に十年住んだ後であった。
16:3 And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.
16:4 彼はハガルの所にはいり、ハガルは子をはらんだ。彼女は自分のはらんだのを見て、女主人を見下げるようになった。
16:4 And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.
16:5 そこでサライはアブラムに言った、「わたしが受けた害はあなたの責任です。わたしのつかえめをあなたのふところに与えたのに、彼女は自分のはらんだのを見て、わたしを見下げます。どうか、主があなたとわたしの間をおさばきになるように」。
16:5 And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon you: I have given my maid into your bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the LORD judge between me and you.
16:6 アブラムはサライに言った、「あなたのつかえめはあなたの手のうちにある。あなたの好きなように彼女にしなさい」。そしてサライが彼女を苦しめたので、彼女はサライの顔を避けて逃げた。
16:6 But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, your maid is in yours hand; do to her as it pleases you. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face.
16:7 主の使は荒野にある泉のほとり、すなわちシュルの道にある泉のほとりで、彼女に会い、
16:7 And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.

16:8 And he said, Hagar, Sarai's maid, whence came you? and where will you go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.
16:9 主の使は彼女に言った、「あなたは女主人のもとに帰って、その手に身を任せなさい」。
16:9 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hands.
16:10 主の使はまた彼女に言った、「わたしは大いにあなたの子孫を増して、数えきれないほどに多くしましょう」。
16:10 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply your seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.
16:11 主の使はまた彼女に言った、「あなたは、みごもっています。あなたは男の子を産むでしょう。名をイシマエルと名づけなさい。主があなたの苦しみを聞かれたのです。
16:11 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, you are with child and shall bear a son, and shall call his name Ishmael; because the LORD has heard your affliction.
16:12 彼は野ろばのような人となり、その手はすべての人に逆らい、すべての人の手は彼に逆らい、彼はすべての兄弟に敵して住むでしょう」。
16:12 And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.
16:13 そこで、ハガルは自分に語られた主の名を呼んで、「あなたはエル・ロイです」と言った。彼女が「ここでも、わたしを見ていられるかたのうしろを拝めたのか」と言ったことによる。
16:13 And she called the name of the LORD that spoke unto her, You God see me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that sees me?

16:14 Wherefore the well was called Beerlahairoi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.
16:15 ハガルはアブラムに男の子を産んだ。アブラムはハガルが産んだ子の名をイシマエルと名づけた。
16:15 And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called his son's name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael.
16:16 ハガルがイシマエルをアブラムに産んだ時、アブラムは八十六歳であった。
16:16 And Abram was fourscore and six years old, when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram.
17:1 アブラムの九十九歳の時、主はアブラムに現れて言われた、／「わたしは全能の神である。あなたはわたしの前に歩み、全き者であれ。
17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be you perfect.
17:2 わたしはあなたと契約を結び、／大いにあなたの子孫を増すであろう」。
17:2 And I will make my covenant between me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.
17:3 アブラムは、ひれ伏した。神はまた彼に言われた、
17:3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,
17:4 「わたしはあなたと契約を結ぶ。あなたは多くの国民の父となるであろう。
17:4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations.
17:5 あなたの名は、もはやアブラムとは言われず、／あなたの名はアブラハムと呼ばれるであろう。わたしはあなたを多くの国民の／父とするからである。
17:5 Neither shall your name any more be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made you.
17:6 わたしはあなたに多くの子孫を得させ、国々の民をあなたから起そう。また、王たちもあなたから出るであろう。
17:6 And I will make you exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come out of you.
17:7 わたしはあなた及び後の代々の子孫と契約を立てて、永遠の契約とし、あなたと後の子孫との神となるであろう。
17:7 And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your seed after you in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto you, and to your seed after you.
17:8 わたしはあなたと後の子孫とにあなたの宿っているこの地、すなわちカナンの全地を永久の所有として与える。そしてわたしは彼らの神となるであろう」。
17:8 And I will give unto you, and to your seed after you, the land wherein you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.
17:9 神はまたアブラハムに言われた、「あなたと後の子孫とは共に代々わたしの契約を守らなければならない。あなたがたのうち
17:9 And God said unto Abraham, You shall keep my covenant therefore, you, and your seed after you in their generations.
17:10 男子はみな割礼をうけなければならない。これはわたしとあなたがた及び後の子孫との間のわたしの契約であって、あなたがたの守るべきものである。
17:10 This is my covenant, which all of you shall keep, between me and you and your seed after you; Every male child among you shall be circumcised.
17:11 あなたがたは前の皮に割礼を受けなければならない。それがわたしとあなたがたとの間の契約のしるしとなるであろう。
17:11 And all of you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant between me and you.
17:12 あなたがたのうちの男子はみな代々、家に生れた者も、また異邦人から銀で買い取った、あなたの子孫でない者も、生れて八日目に割礼を受けなければならない。
17:12 And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every male child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of your seed.
17:13 あなたの家に生れた者も、あなたが銀で買い取った者も必ず割礼を受けなければならない。こうしてわたしの契約はあなたがたの身にあって永遠の契約となるであろう。
17:13 He that is born in your house, and he that is bought with your money, must essentially be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.
17:14 割礼を受けない男子、すなわち前の皮を切らない者はわたしの契約を破るゆえ、その人は民のうちから断たれるであろう」。
17:14 And the uncircumcised male child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.
17:15 神はまたアブラハムに言われた、「あなたの妻サライは、もはや名をサライといわず、名をサラと言いなさい。
17:15 And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be.
17:16 わたしは彼女を祝福し、また彼女によって、あなたにひとりの男の子を授けよう。わたしは彼女を祝福し、彼女を国々の民の母としよう。彼女から、もろもろの民の王たちが出るであろう」。
17:16 And I will bless her, and give you a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her.
17:17 アブラハムはひれ伏して笑い、心の中で言った、「百歳の者にどうして子が生れよう。サラはまた九十歳にもなって、どうして産むことができようか」。
17:17 Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?
17:18 そしてアブラハムは神に言った、「どうかイシマエルがあなたの前に生きながらえますように」。
17:18 And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before you!
17:19 神は言われた、「いや、あなたの妻サラはあなたに男の子を産むでしょう。名をイサクと名づけなさい。わたしは彼と契約を立てて、後の子孫のために永遠の契約としよう。
17:19 And God said, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son indeed; and you shall call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.
17:20 またイシマエルについてはあなたの願いを聞いた。わたしは彼を祝福して多くの子孫を得させ、大いにそれを増すであろう。彼は十二人の君たちを生むであろう。わたしは彼を大いなる国民としよう。
17:20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he brought forth, and I will make him a great nation.
17:21 しかしわたしは来年の今ごろサラがあなたに産むイサクと、わたしの契約を立てるであろう」。
17:21 But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto you at this set time in the next year.
17:22 神はアブラハムと語り終え、彼を離れて、のぼられた。
17:22 And he left off talking with him, and God went up from Abraham.
17:23 アブラハムは神が自分に言われたように、この日その子イシマエルと、すべて家に生れた者およびすべて銀で買い取った者、すなわちアブラハムの家の人々のうち、すべての男子を連れてきて、前の皮に割礼を施した。
17:23 And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all that were born in his house, and all that were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's house; and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the very same day, as God had said unto him.
17:24 アブラハムが前の皮に割礼を受けた時は九十九歳、
17:24 And Abraham was ninety years old and nine, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.
17:25 その子イシマエルが前の皮に割礼を受けた時は十三歳であった。
17:25 And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.
17:26 この日アブラハムとその子イシマエルは割礼を受けた。
17:26 In the very same day was Abraham circumcised, and Ishmael his son.
17:27 またその家の人々は家に生れた者も、銀で異邦人から買い取った者も皆、彼と共に割礼を受けた。
17:27 And all the men of his house, born in the house, and bought with money of the stranger, were circumcised with him.
18:1 主はマムレのテレビンの木のかたわらでアブラハムに現れられた。それは昼の暑いころで、彼は天幕の入口にすわっていたが、
18:1 And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;
18:2 目を上げて見ると、三人の人が彼に向かって立っていた。彼はこれを見て、天幕の入口から走って行って彼らを迎え、地に身をかがめて、
18:2 And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,
18:3 言った、「わが主よ、もしわたしがあなたの前に恵みを得ているなら、どうぞしもべを通り過ごさないでください。
18:3 And said, My LORD, if now I have found favour in your sight, pass not away, I pray you, from your servant:
18:4 水をすこし取ってこさせますから、あなたがたは足を洗って、この木の下でお休みください。
18:4 Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree:
18:5 わたしは一口のパンを取ってきます。元気をつけて、それからお出かけください。せっかくしもべの所においでになったのですから」。彼らは言った、「お言葉どおりにしてください」。
18:5 And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort all of you your hearts; after that all of you shall pass on: for therefore are all of you come to your servant. And they said, So do, as you have said.
18:6 そこでアブラハムは急いで天幕に入り、サラの所に行って言った、「急いで細かい麦粉三セヤをとり、こねてパンを造りなさい」。
18:6 And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth.
18:7 アブラハムは牛の群れに走って行き、柔らかな良い子牛を取って若者に渡したので、急いで調理した。
18:7 And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetched a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it.
18:8 そしてアブラハムは凝乳と牛乳および子牛の調理したものを取って、彼らの前に供え、木の下で彼らのかたわらに立って給仕し、彼らは食事した。
18:8 And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.
18:9 彼らはアブラハムに言った、「あなたの妻サラはどこにおられますか」。彼は言った、「天幕の中です」。
18:9 And they said unto him, Where is Sarah your wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.
18:10 そのひとりが言った、「来年の春、わたしはかならずあなたの所に帰ってきましょう。その時、あなたの妻サラには男の子が生れているでしょう」。サラはうしろの方の天幕の入口で聞いていた。
18:10 And he said, I will certainly return unto you according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah your wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.
18:11 さてアブラハムとサラとは年がすすみ、老人となり、サラは女の月のものが、すでに止まっていた。
18:11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
18:12 それでサラは心の中で笑って言った、「わたしは衰え、主人もまた老人であるのに、わたしに楽しみなどありえようか」。
18:12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?
18:13 主はアブラハムに言われた、「なぜサラは、わたしは老人であるのに、どうして子を産むことができようかと言って笑ったのか。
18:13 And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I certainly bear a child, which am old?
18:14 主にとって不可能なことがありましょうか。来年の春、定めの時に、わたしはあなたの所に帰ってきます。そのときサラには男の子が生れているでしょう」。
18:14 Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.
18:15 サラは恐れたので、これを打ち消して言った、「わたしは笑いません」。主は言われた、「いや、あなたは笑いました」。
18:15 Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but you did laugh.
18:16 その人々はそこを立ってソドムの方に向かったので、アブラハムは彼らを見送って共に行った。
18:16 And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way.
18:17 時に主は言われた、「わたしのしようとする事をアブラハムに隠してよいであろうか。
18:17 And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;
18:18 アブラハムは必ず大きな強い国民となって、地のすべての民がみな、彼によって祝福を受けるのではないか。
18:18 Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?
18:19 わたしは彼が後の子らと家族とに命じて主の道を守らせ、正義と公道とを行わせるために彼を知ったのである。これは主がかつてアブラハムについて言った事を彼の上に臨ませるためである」。
18:19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he has spoken of him.
18:20 主はまた言われた、「ソドムとゴモラの叫びは大きく、またその罪は非常に重いので、
18:20 And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;
18:21 わたしはいま下って、わたしに届いた叫びのとおりに、すべて彼らがおこなっているかどうかを見て、それを知ろう」。
18:21 I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which has come unto me; and if not, I will know.
18:22 その人々はそこから身を巡らしてソドムの方に行ったが、アブラハムはなお、主の前に立っていた。
18:22 And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD.
18:23 アブラハムは近寄って言った、「まことにあなたは正しい者を、悪い者と一緒に滅ぼされるのですか。
18:23 And Abraham drew near, and said, Will you also destroy the righteous with the wicked?
18:24 たとい、あの町に五十人の正しい者があっても、あなたはなお、その所を滅ぼし、その中にいる五十人の正しい者のためにこれをゆるされないのですか。
18:24 Possibly there be fifty righteous within the city: will you also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?
18:25 正しい者と悪い者とを一緒に殺すようなことを、あなたは決してなさらないでしょう。正しい者と悪い者とを同じようにすることも、あなたは決してなさらないでしょう。全地をさばく者は公義を行うべきではありませんか」。
18:25 That be far from you to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from you: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?
18:26 主は言われた、「もしソドムで町の中に五十人の正しい者があったら、その人々のためにその所をすべてゆるそう」。
18:26 And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.
18:27 アブラハムは答えて言った、「わたしはちり灰に過ぎませんが、あえてわが主に申します。
18:27 And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the LORD, which am but dust and ashes:
18:28 もし五十人の正しい者のうち五人欠けたなら、その五人欠けたために町を全く滅ぼされますか」。主は言われた、「もしそこに四十五人いたら、滅ぼさないであろう」。
18:28 Possibly there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: will you destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it.
18:29 アブラハムはまた重ねて主に言った、「もしそこに四十人いたら」。主は言われた、「その四十人のために、これをしないであろう」。
18:29 And he spoke unto him yet again, and said, Possibly there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty's sake.
18:30 アブラハムは言った、「わが主よ、どうかお怒りにならぬよう。わたしは申します。もしそこに三十人いたら」。主は言われた、「そこに三十人いたら、これをしないであろう」。
18:30 And he said unto him, Oh let not the LORD be angry, and I will speak: Possibly there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there.
18:31 アブラハムは言った、「いまわたしはあえてわが主に申します。もしそこに二十人いたら」。主は言われた、「わたしはその二十人のために滅ぼさないであろう」。
18:31 And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the LORD: Possibly there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty's sake.
18:32 アブラハムは言った、「わが主よ、どうかお怒りにならぬよう。わたしはいま一度申します、もしそこに十人いたら」。主は言われた、「わたしはその十人のために滅ぼさないであろう」。
18:32 And he said, Oh let not the LORD be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Possibly ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake.
18:33 主はアブラハムと語り終り、去って行かれた。アブラハムは自分の所に帰った。
18:33 And the LORD went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place.
19:1 そのふたりのみ使は夕暮にソドムに着いた。そのときロトはソドムの門にすわっていた。ロトは彼らを見て、立って迎え、地に伏して、
19:1 And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;
19:2 言った、「わが主よ、どうぞしもべの家に立寄って足を洗い、お泊まりください。そして朝早く起きてお立ちください」。彼らは言った、「いや、われわれは広場で夜を過ごします」。
19:2 And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and all of you shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.
19:3 しかしロトがしいて勧めたので、彼らはついに彼の所に寄り、家にはいった。ロトは彼らのためにふるまいを設け、種入れぬパンを焼いて食べさせた。
19:3 And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.
19:4 ところが彼らの寝ないうちに、ソドムの町の人々は、若い者も老人も、民がみな四方からきて、その家を囲み、
19:4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:
19:5 ロトに叫んで言った、「今夜おまえの所にきた人々はどこにいるか。それをここに出しなさい。われわれは彼らを知るであろう」。
19:5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to you this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.
19:6 ロトは入口におる彼らの所に出て行き、うしろの戸を閉じて、
19:6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,
19:7 言った、「兄弟たちよ、どうか悪い事はしないでください。
19:7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.
19:8 わたしにまだ男を知らない娘がふたりあります。わたしはこれをあなたがたに、さし出しますから、好きなようにしてください。ただ、わたしの屋根の下にはいったこの人たちには、何もしないでください」。
19:8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do all of you to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.
19:9 彼らは言った、「退け」。また言った、「この男は渡ってきたよそ者であるのに、いつも、さばきびとになろうとする。それで、われわれは彼らに加えるよりも、おまえに多くの害を加えよう」。彼らはロトの身に激しく迫り、進み寄って戸を破ろうとした。
19:9 And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will essentially be a judge: now will we deal worse with you, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.
19:10 その時、かのふたりは手を伸べてロトを家の内に引き入れ、戸を閉じた。
19:10 But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door.
19:11 そして家の入口におる人々を、老若の別なく打って目をくらましたので、彼らは入口を捜すのに疲れた。
19:11 And they stroke the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.
19:12 ふたりはロトに言った、「ほかにあなたの身内の者がここにおりますか。あなたのむこ、むすこ、娘およびこの町におるあなたの身内の者を、皆ここから連れ出しなさい。
19:12 And the men said unto Lot, Have you here any besides? son in law, and your sons, and your daughters, and whatsoever you have in the city, bring them out of this place:
19:13 われわれがこの所を滅ぼそうとしているからです。人々の叫びが主の前に大きくなり、主はこの所を滅ぼすために、われわれをつかわされたのです」。
19:13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is becoming great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD has sent us to destroy it.
19:14 そこでロトは出て行って、その娘たちをめとるむこたちに告げて言った、「立ってこの所から出なさい。主がこの町を滅ぼされます」。しかしそれはむこたちには戯むれごとに思えた。
19:14 And Lot went out, and spoke unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.
19:15 夜が明けて、み使たちはロトを促して言った 「立って、ここにいるあなたの妻とふたりの娘とを連れ出しなさい。そうしなければ、あなたもこの町の不義のために滅ぼされるでしょう」。
19:15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take your wife, and your two daughters, which are here; lest you be consumed in the iniquity of the city.
19:16 彼はためらっていたが、主は彼にあわれみを施されたので、かのふたりは彼の手と、その妻の手と、ふたりの娘の手を取って連れ出し、町の外に置いた。
19:16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.
19:17 彼らを外に連れ出した時そのひとりは言った、「のがれて、自分の命を救いなさい。うしろをふりかえって見てはならない。低地にはどこにも立ち止まってはならない。山にのがれなさい。そうしなければ、あなたは滅びます」。
19:17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for your life; look not behind you, neither stay you in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest you be consumed.
19:18 ロトは彼らに言った、「わが主よ、どうか、そうさせないでください。
19:18 And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my LORD:
19:19 しもべはすでにあなたの前に恵みを得ました。あなたはわたしの命を救って、大いなるいつくしみを施されました。しかしわたしは山まではのがれる事ができません。災が身に追い迫ってわたしは死ぬでしょう。
19:19 Behold now, your servant has found grace in your sight, and you have magnified your mercy, which you have showed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:
19:20 あの町をごらんなさい。逃げていくのに近く、また小さい町です。どうかわたしをそこにのがれさせてください。それは小さいではありませんか。そうすればわたしの命は助かるでしょう」。
19:20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.
19:21 み使は彼に言った、「わたしはこの事でもあなたの願いをいれて、あなたの言うその町は滅ぼしません。
19:21 And he said unto him, See, I have accepted you concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which you have spoken.
19:22 急いでそこへのがれなさい。あなたがそこに着くまでは、わたしは何事もすることができません」。これによって、その町の名はゾアルと呼ばれた。
19:22 Haste you, escape thither; for I cannot do anything till you be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.
19:23 ロトがゾアルに着いた時、日は地の上にのぼった。
19:23 The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.
19:24 主は硫黄と火とを主の所すなわち天からソドムとゴモラの上に降らせて、
19:24 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;
19:25 これらの町と、すべての低地と、その町々のすべての住民と、その地にはえている物を、ことごとく滅ぼされた。
19:25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.
19:26 しかしロトの妻はうしろを顧みたので塩の柱になった。
19:26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
19:27 アブラハムは朝早く起き、さきに主の前に立った所に行って、
19:27 And Abraham got up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD:
19:28 ソドムとゴモラの方、および低地の全面をながめると、その地の煙が、かまどの煙のように立ちのぼっていた。
19:28 And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.
19:29 こうして神が低地の町々をこぼたれた時、すなわちロトの住んでいた町々を滅ぼされた時、神はアブラハムを覚えて、その滅びの中からロトを救い出された。
19:29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.
19:30 ロトはゾアルを出て上り、ふたりの娘と共に山に住んだ。ゾアルに住むのを恐れたからである。彼はふたりの娘と共に、ほら穴の中に住んだ。
19:30 And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.
19:31 時に姉が妹に言った、「わたしたちの父は老い、またこの地には世のならわしのように、わたしたちの所に来る男はいません。
19:31 And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:
19:32 さあ、父に酒を飲ませ、共に寝て、父によって子を残しましょう」。
19:32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
19:33 彼女たちはその夜、父に酒を飲ませ、姉がはいって父と共に寝た。ロトは娘が寝たのも、起きたのも知らなかった。
19:33 And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
19:34 あくる日、姉は妹に言った、「わたしは昨夜、父と寝ました。わたしたちは今夜もまた父に酒を飲ませましょう。そしてあなたがはいって共に寝なさい。わたしたちは父によって子を残しましょう」。
19:34 And it came to pass on the next day, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay last night with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go you in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
19:35 彼らはその夜もまた父に酒を飲ませ、妹が行って父と共に寝た。ロトは娘の寝たのも、起きたのも知らなかった。
19:35 And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
19:36 こうしてロトのふたりの娘たちは父によってはらんだ。
19:36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.
19:37 姉娘は子を産み、その名をモアブと名づけた。これは今のモアブびとの先祖である。
19:37 And the first born bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.
19:38 妹もまた子を産んで、その名をベニアンミと名づけた。これは今のアンモンびとの先祖である。
19:38 And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.
20:1 アブラハムはそこからネゲブの地に移って、カデシとシュルの間に住んだ。彼がゲラルにとどまっていた時、
20:1 And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.
20:2 アブラハムは妻サラのことを、「これはわたしの妹です」と言ったので、ゲラルの王アビメレクは、人をつかわしてサラを召し入れた。
20:2 And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.
20:3 ところが神は夜の夢にアビメレクに臨んで言われた、「あなたは召し入れたあの女のゆえに死なねばならない。彼女は夫のある身である」。
20:3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, you are but a dead man, for the woman which you have taken; for she is a man's wife.
20:4 アビメレクはまだ彼女に近づいていなかったので言った、「主よ、あなたは正しい民でも殺されるのですか。
20:4 But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, LORD, will you slay also a righteous nation?
20:5 彼はわたしに、これはわたしの妹ですと言ったではありませんか。また彼女も自分で、彼はわたしの兄ですと言いました。わたしは心も清く、手もいさぎよく、このことをしました」。
20:5 Said he not unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocence of my hands have I done this.
20:6 神はまた夢で彼に言われた、「そうです、あなたが清い心をもってこのことをしたのを知っていたから、わたしもあなたを守って、わたしに対して罪を犯させず、彼女にふれることを許さなかったのです。
20:6 And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that you did this in the integrity of your heart; for I also withheld you from sinning against me: therefore suffered I you not to touch her.
20:7 いま彼の妻を返しなさい。彼は預言者ですから、あなたのために祈って、命を保たせるでしょう。もし返さないなら、あなたも身内の者もみな必ず死ぬと知らなければなりません」。
20:7 Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for you, and you shall live: and if you restore her not, know you that you shall surely die, you, and all that are yours.
20:8 そこでアビメレクは朝早く起き、しもべたちをことごとく召し集めて、これらの事をみな語り聞かせたので、人々は非常に恐れた。
20:8 Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid.
20:9 そしてアビメレクはアブラハムを召して言った、「あなたはわれわれに何をするのですか。あなたに対してわたしがどんな罪を犯したために、あなたはわたしとわたしの国とに、大きな罪を負わせるのですか。あなたはしてはならぬことをわたしにしたのです」。
20:9 Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What have you done unto us? and what have I offended you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? you have done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.
20:10 アビメレクはまたアブラハムに言った、「あなたはなんと思って、この事をしたのですか」。
20:10 And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What saw you, that you have done this thing?
20:11 アブラハムは言った、「この所には神を恐れるということが、まったくないので、わたしの妻のゆえに人々がわたしを殺すと思ったからです。
20:11 And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake.
20:12 また彼女はほんとうにわたしの妹なのです。わたしの父の娘ですが、母の娘ではありません。そして、わたしの妻になったのです。
20:12 And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.
20:13 神がわたしに父の家を離れて、行き巡らせた時、わたしは彼女に、あなたはわたしたちの行くさきざきでわたしを兄であると言ってください。これはあなたがわたしに施す恵みであると言いました」。
20:13 And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said unto her, This is your kindness which you shall show unto me; at every place where we shall come, say of me, He is my brother.
20:14 そこでアビメレクは羊、牛および男女の奴隷を取ってアブラハムに与え、その妻サラを彼に返した。
20:14 And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and male servants, and female servants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.
20:15 そしてアビメレクは言った、「わたしの地はあなたの前にあります。あなたの好きな所に住みなさい」。
20:15 And Abimelech said, Behold, my land is before you: dwell where it pleases you.
20:16 またサラに言った、「わたしはあなたの兄に銀千シケルを与えました。これはあなたの身に起ったすべての事について、あなたに償いをするものです。こうしてすべての人にあなたは正しいと認められます」。
20:16 And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver: behold, he is to you a covering of the eyes, unto all that are with you, and with all other: thus she was reproved.
20:17 そこでアブラハムは神に祈った。神はアビメレクとその妻および、はしためたちをいやされたので、彼らは子を産むようになった。
20:17 So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children.
20:18 これは主がさきにアブラハムの妻サラのゆえに、アビメレクの家のすべての者の胎を、かたく閉ざされたからである。
20:18 For the LORD had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham's wife.
21:1 主は、さきに言われたようにサラを顧み、告げられたようにサラに行われた。
21:1 And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken.
21:2 サラはみごもり、神がアブラハムに告げられた時になって、年老いたアブラハムに男の子を産んだ。
21:2 For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.
21:3 アブラハムは生れた子、サラが産んだ男の子の名をイサクと名づけた。
21:3 And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac.
21:4 アブラハムは神が命じられたように八日目にその子イサクに割礼を施した。
21:4 And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him.
21:5 アブラハムはその子イサクが生れた時百歳であった。
21:5 And Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him.
21:6 そしてサラは言った、「神はわたしを笑わせてくださった。聞く者は皆わたしのことで笑うでしょう」。
21:6 And Sarah said, God has made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.
21:7 また言った、「サラが子に乳を飲ませるだろうと、だれがアブラハムに言い得たであろう。それなのに、わたしは彼が年とってから、子を産んだ」。
21:7 And she said, Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? for I have born him a son in his old age.
21:8 さて、おさなごは育って乳離れした。イサクが乳離れした日にアブラハムは盛んなふるまいを設けた。
21:8 And the child grew, and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast the same day that Isaac was weaned.
21:9 サラはエジプトの女ハガルのアブラハムに産んだ子が、自分の子イサクと遊ぶのを見て、
21:9 And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham, mocking.
21:10 アブラハムに言った、「このはしためとその子を追い出してください。このはしための子はわたしの子イサクと共に、世継となるべき者ではありません」。
21:10 Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.
21:11 この事で、アブラハムはその子のために非常に心配した。
21:11 And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight because of his son.
21:12 神はアブラハムに言われた、「あのわらべのため、またあなたのはしためのために心配することはない。サラがあなたに言うことはすべて聞きいれなさい。イサクに生れる者が、あなたの子孫と唱えられるからです。
21:12 And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in your sight because of the lad, and because of your bondwoman; in all that Sarah has said unto you, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall your seed be called.
21:13 しかし、はしための子もあなたの子ですから、これをも、一つの国民とします」。
21:13 And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is your seed.
21:14 そこでアブラハムは明くる朝はやく起きて、パンと水の皮袋とを取り、ハガルに与えて、肩に負わせ、その子を連れて去らせた。ハガルは去ってベエルシバの荒野にさまよった。
21:14 And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away: and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba.
21:15 やがて皮袋の水が尽きたので、彼女はその子を木の下におき、
21:15 And the water was spent in the bottle, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs.
21:16 「わたしはこの子の死ぬのを見るに忍びない」と言って、矢の届くほど離れて行き、子供の方に向いてすわった。彼女が子供の方に向いてすわったとき、子供は声をあげて泣いた。
21:16 And she went, and sat her down opposite to him a good way off, as it were a bow shot: for she said, Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat opposite to him, and lift up her voice, and wept.
21:17 神はわらべの声を聞かれ、神の使は天からハガルを呼んで言った、「ハガルよ、どうしたのか。恐れてはいけない。神はあそこにいるわらべの声を聞かれた。
21:17 And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What disturbs you, Hagar? fear not; for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is.
21:18 立って行き、わらべを取り上げてあなたの手に抱きなさい。わたしは彼を大いなる国民とするであろう」。
21:18 Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in yours hand; for I will make him a great nation.
21:19 神がハガルの目を開かれたので、彼女は水の井戸のあるのを見た。彼女は行って皮袋に水を満たし、わらべに飲ませた。
21:19 And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.
21:20 神はわらべと共にいまし、わらべは成長した。彼は荒野に住んで弓を射る者となった。
21:20 And God was with the lad; and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer.
21:21 彼はパランの荒野に住んだ。母は彼のためにエジプトの国から妻を迎えた。
21:21 And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran: and his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt.
21:22 そのころアビメレクとその軍勢の長ピコルはアブラハムに言った、「あなたが何事をなさっても、神はあなたと共におられる。
21:22 And it came to pass at that time, that Abimelech and Phichol the chief captain of his host spoke unto Abraham, saying, God is with you in all that you do:
21:23 それゆえ、今ここでわたしをも、わたしの子をも、孫をも欺かないと、神をさしてわたしに誓ってください。わたしがあなたに親切にしたように、あなたもわたしと、このあなたの寄留の地とに、しなければなりません」。
21:23 Now therefore swear unto me here by God that you will not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son's son: but according to the kindness that I have done unto you, you shall do unto me, and to the land wherein you have sojourned.
21:24 アブラハムは言った、「わたしは誓います」。
21:24 And Abraham said, I will swear.
21:25 アブラハムはアビメレクの家来たちが、水の井戸を奪い取ったことについてアビメルクを責めた。
21:25 And Abraham reproved Abimelech because of a well of water, which Abimelech's servants had violently taken away.
21:26 しかしアビメレクは言った、「だれがこの事をしたかわたしは知りません。あなたもわたしに告げたことはなく、わたしもきょうまで聞きませんでした」。
21:26 And Abimelech said, I know not who has done this thing; neither did you tell me, neither yet heard I of it, but to day.
21:27 そこでアブラハムは羊と牛とを取ってアビメレクに与え、ふたりは契約を結んだ。
21:27 And Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them unto Abimelech; and both of them made a covenant.
21:28 アブラハムが雌の小羊七頭を分けて置いたところ、
21:28 And Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves.
21:29 アビメレクはアブラハムに言った、「あなたがこれらの雌の小羊七頭を分けて置いたのは、なんのためですか」。
21:29 And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What mean these seven ewe lambs which you have set by themselves?
21:30 アブラハムは言った、「あなたはわたしの手からこれらの雌の小羊七頭を受け取って、わたしがこの井戸を掘ったことの証拠としてください」。
21:30 And he said, For these seven ewe lambs shall you take of my hand, that they may be a witness unto me, that I have dug this well.
21:31 これによってその所をベエルシバと名づけた。彼らがふたりそこで誓いをしたからである。
21:31 Wherefore he called that place Beersheba; because there they swore both of them.
21:32 このように彼らはベエルシバで契約を結び、アビメレクとその軍勢の長ピコルは立ってペリシテの地に帰った。
21:32 Thus they made a covenant at Beersheba: then Abimelech rose up, and Phichol the chief captain of his host, and they returned into the land of the Philistines.
21:33 アブラハムはベエルシバに一本のぎょりゅうの木を植え、その所で永遠の神、主の名を呼んだ。
21:33 And Abraham planted a grove in Beersheba, and called there on the name of the LORD, the everlasting God.
21:34 こうしてアブラハムは長い間ペリシテびとの地にとどまった。
21:34 And Abraham sojourned in the Philistines' land many days.

22:1 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.
22:2 神は言われた、「あなたの子、あなたの愛するひとり子イサクを連れてモリヤの地に行き、わたしが示す山で彼を燔祭としてささげなさい」。
22:2 And he said, Take now your son, yours only son Isaac, whom you love, and get you into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell you of.
22:3 アブラハムは朝はやく起きて、ろばにくらを置き、ふたりの若者と、その子イサクとを連れ、また燔祭のたきぎを割り、立って神が示された所に出かけた。
22:3 And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.
22:4 三日目に、アブラハムは目をあげて、はるかにその場所を見た。
22:4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place far off.
22:5 そこでアブラハムは若者たちに言った、「あなたがたは、ろばと一緒にここにいなさい。わたしとわらべは向こうへ行って礼拝し、そののち、あなたがたの所に帰ってきます」。
22:5 And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide all of you here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.
22:6 アブラハムは燔祭のたきぎを取って、その子イサクに負わせ、手に火と刃物とを執って、ふたり一緒に行った。
22:6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.
22:7 やがてイサクは父アブラハムに言った、「父よ」。彼は答えた、「子よ、わたしはここにいます」。イサクは言った、「火とたきぎとはありますが、燔祭の小羊はどこにありますか」。
22:7 And Isaac spoke unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?
22:8 アブラハムは言った、「子よ、神みずから燔祭の小羊を備えてくださるであろう」。こうしてふたりは一緒に行った。
22:8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.
22:9 彼らが神の示された場所にきたとき、アブラハムはそこに祭壇を築き、たきぎを並べ、その子イサクを縛って祭壇のたきぎの上に載せた。
22:9 And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.
22:10 そしてアブラハムが手を差し伸べ、刃物を執ってその子を殺そうとした時、
22:10 And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.
22:11 主の使が天から彼を呼んで言った、「アブラハムよ、アブラハムよ」。彼は答えた、「はい、ここにおります」。
22:11 And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.
22:12 み使が言った、「わらべを手にかけてはならない。また何も彼にしてはならない。あなたの子、あなたのひとり子をさえ、わたしのために惜しまないので、あなたが神を恐れる者であることをわたしは今知った」。
22:12 And he said, Lay not yours hand upon the lad, neither do you any thing unto him: for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, yours only son from me.
22:13 この時アブラハムが目をあげて見ると、うしろに、角をやぶに掛けている一頭の雄羊がいた。アブラハムは行ってその雄羊を捕え、それをその子のかわりに燔祭としてささげた。
22:13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the position of his son.
22:14 それでアブラハムはその所の名をアドナイ・エレと呼んだ。これにより、人々は今日もなお「主の山に備えあり」と言う。
22:14 And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.
22:15 主の使は再び天からアブラハムを呼んで、
22:15 And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,
22:16 言った、「主は言われた、『わたしは自分をさして誓う。あなたがこの事をし、あなたの子、あなたのひとり子をも惜しまなかったので、
22:16 And said, By myself have I sworn, says the LORD, for because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, yours only son:
22:17 わたしは大いにあなたを祝福し、大いにあなたの子孫をふやして、天の星のように、浜べの砂のようにする。あなたの子孫は敵の門を打ち取り、
22:17 That in blessing I will bless you, and in multiplying I will multiply your seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and your seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
22:18 また地のもろもろの国民はあなたの子孫によって祝福を得るであろう。あなたがわたしの言葉に従ったからである』」。
22:18 And in your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because you have obeyed my voice.
22:19 アブラハムは若者たちの所に帰り、みな立って、共にベエルシバへ行った。そしてアブラハムはベエルシバに住んだ。
22:19 So Abraham returned unto his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.
22:20 これらの事の後、ある人がアブラハムに告げて言った、「ミルカもまたあなたの兄弟ナホルに子どもを産みました。
22:20 And it came to pass after these things, that it was told Abraham, saying, Behold, Milcah, she has also born children unto your brother Nahor;
22:21 長男はウヅ、弟はブズ、次はアラムの父ケムエル、
22:21 Huz his firstborn, and Buz his brother, and Kemuel the father of Aram,
22:22 次はケセデ、ハゾ、ピルダシ、エデラフ、ベトエルです」。
22:22 And Chesed, and Hazo, and Pildash, and Jidlaph, and Bethuel.
22:23 ベトエルの子はリベカであって、これら八人はミルカがアブラハムの兄弟ナホルに産んだのである。
22:23 And Bethuel brings forth Rebekah: these eight Milcah did bear to Nahor, Abraham's brother.
22:24 ナホルのそばめで、名をルマという女もまたテバ、ガハム、タハシおよびマアカを産んだ。
22:24 And his concubine, whose name was Reumah, she bare also Tebah, and Gaham, and Thahash, and Maachah.
23:1 サラの一生は百二十七年であった。これがサラの生きながらえた年である。
23:1 And Sarah was an hundred and seven and twenty years old: these were the years of the life of Sarah.
23:2 サラはカナンの地のキリアテ・アルバすなわちヘブロンで死んだ。アブラハムは中にはいってサラのために悲しみ泣いた。
23:2 And Sarah died in Kirjatharba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.
23:3 アブラハムは死人のそばから立って、ヘテの人々に言った、
23:3 And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spoke unto the sons of Heth, saying,
23:4 「わたしはあなたがたのうちの旅の者で寄留者ですが、わたしの死人を出して葬るため、あなたがたのうちにわたしの所有として一つの墓地をください」。
23:4 I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.
23:5 ヘテの人々はアブラハムに答えて言った、
23:5 And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying unto him,
23:6 「わが主よ、お聞きなさい。あなたはわれわれのうちにおられて、神のような主君です。われわれの墓地の最も良い所にあなたの死人を葬りなさい。その墓地を拒んで、あなたにその死人を葬らせない者はわれわれのうちには、ひとりもないでしょう」。
23:6 Hear us, my lord: you are a mighty prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchers bury your dead; none of us shall withhold from you his tomb, but that you may bury your dead.
23:7 アブラハムは立ちあがり、その地の民ヘテの人々に礼をして、
23:7 And Abraham stood up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth.
23:8 彼らに言った、「もしわたしの死人を葬るのに同意されるなら、わたしの願いをいれて、わたしのためにゾハルの子エフロンに頼み、
23:8 And he communed with them, saying, If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight; hear me, and implore for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,
23:9 彼が持っている畑の端のマクペラのほら穴をじゅうぶんな代価でわたしに与え、あなたがたのうちに墓地を持たせてください」。
23:9 That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he has, which is in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it me for a possession of a buryingplace among you.
23:10 時にエフロンはヘテの人々のうちにすわっていた。そこでヘテびとエフロンはヘテの人々、すなわちすべてその町の門にはいる人々の聞いているところで、アブラハムに答えて言った、
23:10 And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth: and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying,
23:11 「いいえ、わが主よ、お聞きなさい。わたしはあの畑をあなたにさしあげます。またその中にあるほら穴もさしあげます。わたしの民の人々の前で、それをさしあげます。あなたの死人を葬りなさい」。
23:11 Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I you, and the cave that is therein, I give it you; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it you: bury your dead.
23:12 アブラハムはその地の民の前で礼をし、
23:12 And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land.
23:13 その地の民の聞いているところでエフロンに言った、「あなたがそれを承諾されるなら、お聞きなさい。わたしはその畑の代価を払います。お受け取りください。わたしの死人をそこに葬りましょう」。
23:13 And he spoke unto Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if you will give it, I pray you, hear me: I will give you money for the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there.
23:14 エフロンはアブラハムに答えて言った、
23:14 And Ephron answered Abraham, saying unto him,
23:15 「わが主よ、お聞きなさい。あの地は銀四百シケルですが、これはわたしとあなたの間で、なにほどのことでしょう。あなたの死人を葬りなさい」。
23:15 My lord, hearken unto me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that between me and you? bury therefore your dead.
23:16 そこでアブラハムはエフロンの言葉にしたがい、エフロンがヘテの人々の聞いているところで言った銀、すなわち商人の通用銀四百シケルを量ってエフロンに与えた。
23:16 And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant.
23:17 こうしてマムレの前のマクペラにあるエフロンの畑は、畑も、その中のほら穴も、畑の中およびその周囲の境にあるすべての木も皆、
23:17 And the field of Ephron which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the borders round about, were made sure
23:18 ヘテの人々の前、すなわちその町の門にはいるすべての人々の前で、アブラハムの所有と決まった。
23:18 Unto Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city.
23:19 その後、アブラハムはその妻サラをカナンの地にあるマムレ、すなわちヘブロンの前のマクペラの畑のほら穴に葬った。
23:19 And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan.
23:20 このように畑とその中にあるほら穴とはヘテの人々によってアブラハムの所有の墓地と定められた。
23:20 And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure unto Abraham for a possession of a buryingplace by the sons of Heth.
24:1 アブラハムは年が進んで老人となった。主はすべての事にアブラハムを恵まれた。
24:1 And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.
24:2 さてアブラハムは所有のすべてを管理させていた家の年長のしもべに言った、「あなたの手をわたしのももの下に入れなさい。
24:2 And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray you, your hand under my thigh:
24:3 わたしはあなたに天地の神、主をさして誓わせる。あなたはわたしが今一緒に住んでいるカナンびとのうちから、娘をわたしの子の妻にめとってはならない。
24:3 And I will make you swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that you shall not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:
24:4 あなたはわたしの国へ行き、親族の所へ行って、わたしの子イサクのために妻をめとらなければならない」。
24:4 But you shall go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac.
24:5 しもべは彼に言った、「もしその女がわたしについてこの地に来ることを好まない時は、わたしはあなたの子をあなたの出身地に連れ帰るべきでしょうか」。
24:5 And the servant said unto him, Possibly the woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land: must I essentially bring your son again unto the land from whence you came?
24:6 アブラハムは彼に言った、「わたしの子は決して向こうへ連れ帰ってはならない。
24:6 And Abraham said unto him, Beware you that you bring not my son thither again.
24:7 天の神、主はわたしを父の家、親族の地から導き出してわたしに語り、わたしに誓って、おまえの子孫にこの地を与えると言われた。主は、み使をあなたの前につかわされるであろう。あなたはあそこからわたしの子に妻をめとらねばならない。
24:7 The LORD God of heaven, which took me from my father's house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spoke unto me, and that swore unto me, saying, Unto your seed will I give this land; he shall send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife unto my son from thence.
24:8 けれどもその女があなたについて来ることを好まないなら、あなたはこの誓いを解かれる。ただわたしの子を向こうへ連れ帰ってはならない」。
24:8 And if the woman will not be willing to follow you, then you shall be clear from this my oath: only bring not my son thither again.
24:9 そこでしもべは手を主人アブラハムのももの下に入れ、この事について彼に誓った。
24:9 And the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and swore to him concerning that matter.
24:10 しもべは主人のらくだのうちから十頭のらくだを取って出かけた。すなわち主人のさまざまの良い物を携え、立ってアラム・ナハライムにむかい、ナホルの町へ行った。
24:10 And the servant took ten camels of the camels of his master, and departed; for all the goods of his master were in his hand: and he arose, and went to Mesopotamia, unto the city of Nahor.
24:11 彼はらくだを町の外の、水の井戸のそばに伏させた。時は夕暮で、女たちが水をくみに出る時刻であった。
24:11 And he made his camels to kneel down without the city by a well of water at the time of the evening, even the time that women go out to draw water.
24:12 彼は言った、「主人アブラハムの神、主よ、どうか、きょう、わたしにしあわせを授け、主人アブラハムに恵みを施してください。
24:12 And he said O LORD God of my master Abraham, I pray you, send me good speed this day, and show kindness unto my master Abraham.
24:13 わたしは泉のそばに立っています。町の人々の娘たちが水をくみに出てきたとき、
24:13 Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water:
24:14 娘に向かって『お願いです、あなたの水がめを傾けてわたしに飲ませてください』と言い、娘が答えて、『お飲みください。あなたのらくだにも飲ませましょう』と言ったなら、その者こそ、あなたがしもべイサクのために定められた者ということにしてください。わたしはこれによって、あなたがわたしの主人に恵みを施されること知りましょう」。
24:14 And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down your pitcher, I pray you, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give your camels drink also: let the same be she that you have appointed for your servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that you have showed kindness unto my master.
24:15 彼がまだ言い終らないうちに、アブラハムの兄弟ナホルの妻ミルカの子ベトエルの娘リベカが、水がめを肩に載せて出てきた。
24:15 And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.
24:16 その娘は非常に美しく、男を知らぬ処女であった。彼女が泉に降りて、水がめを満たし、上がってきた時、
24:16 And the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up.
24:17 しもべは走り寄って、彼女に会って言った、「お願いです。あなたの水がめの水を少し飲ませてください」。
24:17 And the servant ran to meet her, and said, Let me, I pray you, drink a little water of your pitcher.
24:18 すると彼女は「わが主よ、お飲みください」と言って、急いで水がめを自分の手に取りおろして彼に飲ませた。
24:18 And she said, Drink, my lord: and she hasted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink.
24:19 飲ませ終って、彼女は言った、「あなたのらくだもみな飲み終るまで、わたしは水をくみましょう」。
24:19 And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for your camels also, until they have done drinking.
24:20 彼女は急いでかめの水を水ぶねにあけ、再び水をくみに井戸に走って行って、すべてのらくだのために水をくんだ。
24:20 And she hasted, and emptied her pitcher into the gutter, and ran again unto the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels.
24:21 その間その人は主が彼の旅の祝福されるか、どうかを知ろうと、黙って彼女を見つめていた。
24:21 And the man wondering at her held his peace, to know whether the LORD had made his journey prosperous or not.
24:22 らくだが飲み終ったとき、その人は重さ半シケルの金の鼻輪一つと、重さ十シケルの金の腕輪二つを取って、
24:22 And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold;
24:23 言った、「あなたはだれの娘か、わたしに話してください。あなたの父の家にわたしどもの泊まる場所がありましょうか」。
24:23 And said, Whose daughter are you? tell me, I pray you: is there room in your father's house for us to lodge in?
24:24 彼女は彼に言った、「わたしはナホルの妻ミルカの子ベトエルの娘です」。
24:24 And she said unto him, I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, which she bare unto Nahor.
24:25 また彼に言った、「わたしどもには、わらも、飼葉もたくさんあります。また泊まる場所もあります」。
24:25 She said moreover unto him, We have both straw and animal food enough, and room to lodge in.
24:26 その人は頭を下げ、主を拝して、
24:26 And the man bowed down his head, and worshipped the LORD.
24:27 言った、「主人アブラハムの神、主はほむべきかな。主はわたしの主人にいつくしみと、まこととを惜しまれなかった。そして主は旅にあるわたしを主人の兄弟の家に導かれた」。
24:27 And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who has not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master's brethren.
24:28 娘は走って行って、母の家のものにこれらの事を告げた。
24:28 And the damsel ran, and told them of her mother's house these things.
24:29 リベカにひとりの兄があって、名をラバンといった。ラバンは泉のそばにいるその人の所へ走って行った。
24:29 And Rebekah had a brother, and his name was Laban: and Laban ran out unto the man, unto the well.
24:30 彼は鼻輪と妹の手にある腕輪とを見、また妹リベカが「その人はわたしにこう言った」というのを聞いて、その人の所へ行ってみると、その人は泉のほとりで、らくだのそばに立っていた。
24:30 And it came to pass, when he saw the earring and bracelets upon his sister's hands, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, Thus spoke the man unto me; that he came unto the man; and, behold, he stood by the camels at the well.
24:31 そこでその人に言った、「主に祝福された人よ、おはいりください。なぜ外に立っておられますか。わたしは家を準備し、らくだのためにも場所を準備しておきました」。
24:31 And he said, Come in, you blessed of the LORD; wherefore stand you without? for I have prepared the house, and room for the camels.
24:32 その人は家にはいった。ラバンはらくだの荷を解いて、わらと飼葉をらくだに与え、また水を与えてその人の足と、その従者たちの足を洗わせた。
24:32 And the man came into the house: and he unbounded his camels, and gave straw and animal food for the camels, and water to wash his feet, and the men's feet that were with him.
24:33 そして彼の前に食物を供えたが、彼は言った、「わたしは用向きを話すまでは食べません」。ラバンは言った、「お話しください」。
24:33 And there was set food before him to eat: but he said, I will not eat, until I have told mine errand. And he said, Speak on.
24:34 そこで彼は言った、「わたしはアブラハムのしもべです。
24:34 And he said, I am Abraham's servant.
24:35 主はわたしの主人を大いに祝福して、大いなる者とされました。主はまた彼に羊、牛、銀、金、男女の奴隷、らくだ、ろばを与えられました。
24:35 And the LORD has blessed my master greatly; and he is become great: and he has given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and male servants, and maidservants, and camels, and asses.
24:36 主人の妻サラは年老いてから、主人に男の子を産みました。主人はその所有を皆これに与えました。
24:36 And Sarah my master's wife bare a son to my master when she was old: and unto him has he given all that he has.
24:37 ところで主人はわたしに誓わせて言いました、『わたしの住んでいる地のカナンびとの娘を、わたしの子の妻にめとってはならない。
24:37 And my master made me swear, saying, You shall not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell:
24:38 おまえはわたしの父の家、親族の所へ行って、わたしの子に妻をめとらなければならない』。
24:38 But you shall go unto my father's house, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son.
24:39 わたしは主人に言いました、『もしその女がわたしについてこない時はどういたしましょうか』。
24:39 And I said unto my master, Possibly the woman will not follow me.
24:40 主人はわたしに言いました、『わたしの仕えている主は、み使をおまえと一緒につかわして、おまえの旅にさいわいを与えられるであろう。おまえはわたしの親族、わたしの父の家からわたしの子に妻をめとらなければならない。
24:40 And he said unto me, The LORD, before whom I walk, will send his angel with you, and prosper your way; and you shall take a wife for my son of my kindred, and of my father's house:
24:41 そのとき、おまえはわたしにした誓いから解かれるであろう。またおまえがわたしの親族に行く時、彼らがおまえにその娘を与えないなら、おまえはわたしにした誓いから解かれるであろう』。
24:41 Then shall you be clear from this my oath, when you come to my kindred; and if they give not you one, you shall be clear from my oath.
24:42 わたしはきょう、泉のところにきて言いました、『主人アブラハムの神、主よ、どうか今わたしのゆく道にさいわいを与えてください。
24:42 And I came this day unto the well, and said, O LORD God of my master Abraham, if now you do prosper my way which I go:
24:43 わたしはこの泉のそばに立っていますが、水をくみに出てくる娘に向かって、「お願いです。あなたの水がめの水を少し飲ませてください」と言い、
24:43 Behold, I stand by the well of water; and it shall come to pass, that when the virgin comes forth to draw water, and I say to her, Give me, I pray you, a little water of your pitcher to drink;
24:44 「お飲みください。あなたのらくだのためにも、くみましょう」とわたしに言うなら、その娘こそ、主がわたしの主人の子のために定められた女ということにしてください』。
24:44 And she say to me, Both drink you, and I will also draw for your camels: let the same be the woman whom the LORD has appointed out for my master's son.
24:45 わたしが心のうちでそう言い終らないうちに、リベカが水がめを肩に載せて出てきて、水をくみに泉に降りたので、わたしは『お願いです、飲ませてください』と言いますと、
24:45 And before I had done speaking in mine heart, behold, Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down unto the well, and drew water: and I said unto her, Let me drink, I pray you.
24:46 彼女は急いで水がめを肩からおろし、『お飲みください。わたしはあなたのらくだにも飲ませましょう』と言いました。それでわたしは飲みましたが、彼女はらくだにも飲ませました。
24:46 And she made haste, and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, Drink, and I will give your camels drink also: so I drank, and she made the camels drink also.
24:47 わたしは彼女に尋ねて、『あなたはだれの娘ですか』と言いますと、『ナホルとその妻ミルカの子ベトエルの娘です』と答えました。そこでわたしは彼女の鼻に鼻輪をつけ、手に腕輪をつけました。
24:47 And I asked her, and said, Whose daughter are you? And she said, the daughter of Bethuel, Nahor's son, whom Milcah bare unto him: and I put the earring upon her face, and the bracelets upon her hands.
24:48 そしてわたしは頭をさげて主を拝し、主人アブラハムの神、主をほめたたえました。主は主人の兄弟の娘を子にめとらせようと、わたしを正しい道に導かれたからです。
24:48 And I bowed down my head, and worshipped the LORD, and blessed the LORD God of my master Abraham, which had led me in the right way to take my master's brother's daughter unto his son.
24:49 あなたがたが、もしわたしの主人にいつくしみと、まことを尽そうと思われるなら、そうとわたしにお話しください。そうでなければ、そうでないとお話しください。それによってわたしは右か左に決めましょう」。
24:49 And now if all of you will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me: and if not, tell me; that I may turn to the right hand, or to the left.
24:50 ラバンとベトエルは答えて言った、「この事は主から出たことですから、わたしどもはあなたによしあしを言うことができません。
24:50 Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, The thing proceeds from the LORD: we cannot speak unto you bad or good.
24:51 リベカがここにおりますから連れて行って、主が言われたように、あなたの主人の子の妻にしてください」。
24:51 Behold, Rebekah is before you, take her, and go, and let her be your master's son's wife, as the LORD has spoken.
24:52 アブラハムのしもべは彼らの言葉を聞いて、地に伏し、主を拝した。
24:52 And it came to pass, that, when Abraham's servant heard their words, he worshipped the LORD, bowing himself to the earth.
24:53 そしてしもべは銀の飾りと、金の飾り、および衣服を取り出してリベカに与え、その兄と母とにも価の高い品々を与えた。
24:53 And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment, and gave them to Rebekah: he gave also to her brother and to her mother precious things.
24:54 彼と従者たちは飲み食いして宿ったが、あくる朝彼らが起きた時、しもべは言った、「わたしを主人のもとに帰らせてください」。
24:54 And they did eat and drink, he and the men that were with him, and tarried all night; and they rose up in the morning, and he said, Send me away unto my master.
24:55 リベカの兄と母とは言った、「娘は数日、少なくとも十日、わたしどもと共にいて、それから行かせましょう」。
24:55 And her brother and her mother said, Let the damsel abide with us a few days, at the least ten; after that she shall go.

24:56 And he said unto them, Hinder me not, seeing the LORD has prospered my way; send me away that I may go to my master.

24:57 And they said, We will call the damsel, and enquire at her mouth.
24:58 彼らはリベカを呼んで言った、「あなたはこの人と一緒に行きますか」。彼女は言った、「行きます」。
24:58 And they called Rebekah, and said unto her, Will you go with this man? And she said, I will go.

24:59 And they sent away Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham's servant, and his men.

24:60 And they blessed Rebekah, and said unto her, You are our sister, be you the mother of thousands of millions, and let your seed possess the gate of those which hate them.
24:61 リベカは立って侍女たちと共にらくだに乗り、その人に従って行った。しもべはリベカを連れて立ち去った。
24:61 And Rebekah arose, and her damsels, and they rode upon the camels, and followed the man: and the servant took Rebekah, and went his way.
24:62 さてイサクはベエル・ラハイ・ロイからきて、ネゲブの地に住んでいた。
24:62 And Isaac came from the way of the well Lahairoi; for he dwelt in the south country.
24:63 イサクは夕暮、野に出て歩いていたが、目をあげて、らくだの来るのを見た。
24:63 And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the evening: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming.
24:64 リベカは目をあげてイサクを見、らくだからおりて、
24:64 And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel.
24:65 しもべに言った、「わたしたちに向かって、野を歩いて来るあの人はだれでしょう」。しもべは言った、「あれはわたしの主人です」。するとリベカは、被衣で身をおおった。
24:65 For she had said unto the servant, What man is this that walks in the field to meet us? And the servant had said, It is my master: therefore she took a vail, and covered herself.
24:66 しもべは自分がしたことのすべてをイサクに話した。
24:66 And the servant told Isaac all things that he had done.
24:67 イサクはリベカを天幕に連れて行き、リベカをめとって妻とし、彼女を愛した。こうしてイサクは母の死後、慰めを得た。
24:67 And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.
25:1 アブラハムは再び妻をめとった。名をケトラという。
25:1 Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah.
25:2 彼女はジムラン、ヨクシャン、メダン、ミデアン、イシバクおよびシュワを産んだ。
25:2 And she bare him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah.
25:3 ヨクシャンの子はシバとデダン。デダンの子孫はアシュリびと、レトシびと、レウミびとである。
25:3 And Jokshan brings forth Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim.
25:4 ミデアンの子孫はエパ、エペル、ヘノク、アビダ、エルダアであって、これらは皆ケトラの子孫であった。
25:4 And the sons of Midian; Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abidah, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.
25:5 アブラハムはその所有をことごとくイサクに与えた。
25:5 And Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac.
25:6 またそのそばめたちの子らにもアブラハムは物を与え、なお生きている間に彼らをその子イサクから離して、東の方、東の国に移らせた。
25:6 But unto the sons of the concubines, which Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country.
25:7 アブラハムの生きながらえた年は百七十五年である。
25:7 And these are the days of the years of Abraham's life which he lived, an hundred threescore and fifteen years.
25:8 アブラハムは高齢に達し、老人となり、年が満ちて息絶え、死んでその民に加えられた。
25:8 Then Abraham gave up the spirit, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people.
25:9 その子イサクとイシマエルは彼をヘテびとゾハルの子エフロンの畑にあるマクペラのほら穴に葬った。これはマムレの向かいにあり、
25:9 And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre;
25:10 アブラハムがヘテの人々から、買い取った畑であって、そこにアブラハムとその妻サラが葬られた。
25:10 The field which Abraham purchased of the sons of Heth: there was Abraham buried, and Sarah his wife.
25:11 アブラハムが死んだ後、神はその子イサクを祝福された。イサクはベエル・ラハイ・ロイのほとりに住んだ。
25:11 And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahairoi.
25:12 サラのつかえめエジプトびとハガルがアブラハムに産んだアブラハムの子イシマエルの系図は次のとおりである。
25:12 Now these are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's handmaid, bare unto Abraham:
25:13 イシマエルの子らの名を世代にしたがって、その名をいえば次のとおりである。すなわちイシマエルの長子はネバヨテ、次はケダル、アデビエル、ミブサム、
25:13 And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,
25:14 ミシマ、ドマ、マッサ、
25:14 And Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa,
25:15 ハダデ、テマ、エトル、ネフシ、ケデマ。
25:15 Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah:
25:16 これはイシマエルの子らであり、村と宿営とによる名であって、その氏族による十二人の君たちである。
25:16 These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their towns, and by their castles; twelve princes according to their nations.
25:17 イシマエルのよわいは百三十七年である。彼は息絶えて死に、その民に加えられた。
25:17 And these are the years of the life of Ishmael, an hundred and thirty and seven years: and he gave up the spirit and died; and was gathered unto his people.
25:18 イシマエルの子らはハビラからエジプトの東、シュルまでの間に住んで、アシュルに及んだ。イシマエルはすべての兄弟の東に住んだ。
25:18 And they dwelt from Havilah unto Shur, that is before Egypt, as you go toward Assyria: and he died in the presence of all his brethren.
25:19 アブラハムの子イサクの系図は次のとおりである。アブラハムの子はイサクであって、
25:19 And these are the generations of Isaac, Abraham's son: Abraham brings forth Isaac:
25:20 イサクは四十歳の時、パダンアラムのアラムびとベトエルの娘で、アラムびとラバンの妹リベカを妻にめとった。
25:20 And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padanaram, the sister to Laban the Syrian.
25:21 イサクは妻が子を産まなかったので、妻のために主に祈り願った。主はその願いを聞かれ、妻リベカはみごもった。
25:21 And Isaac implored the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was implored of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.
25:22 ところがその子らが胎内で押し合ったので、リベカは言った、「こんなことでは、わたしはどうなるでしょう」。彼女は行って主に尋ねた。
25:22 And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the LORD.
25:23 主は彼女に言われた、／「二つの国民があなたの胎内にあり、／二つの民があなたの腹から別れて出る。一つの民は他の民よりも強く、／兄は弟に仕えるであろう」。
25:23 And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in your womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from your bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.
25:24 彼女の出産の日がきたとき、胎内にはふたごがあった。
25:24 And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.
25:25 さきに出たのは赤くて全身毛ごろものようであった。それで名をエサウと名づけた。
25:25 And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.
25:26 その後に弟が出た。その手はエサウのかかとをつかんでいた。それで名をヤコブと名づけた。リベカが彼らを産んだ時、イサクは六十歳であった。
25:26 And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.
25:27 さてその子らは成長し、エサウは巧みな狩猟者となり、野の人となったが、ヤコブは穏やかな人で、天幕に住んでいた。
25:27 And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents.
25:28 イサクは、しかの肉が好きだったので、エサウを愛したが、リベカはヤコブを愛した。
25:28 And Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison: but Rebekah loved Jacob.
25:29 ある日ヤコブが、あつものを煮ていた時、エサウは飢え疲れて野から帰ってきた。
25:29 And Jacob cook pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint:
25:30 エサウはヤコブに言った、「わたしは飢え疲れた。お願いだ。赤いもの、その赤いものをわたしに食べさせてくれ」。彼が名をエドムと呼ばれたのはこのためである。
25:30 And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray you, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.
25:31 ヤコブは言った、「まずあなたの長子の特権をわたしに売りなさい」。
25:31 And Jacob said, Sell me this day your birthright.
25:32 エサウは言った、「わたしは死にそうだ。長子の特権などわたしに何になろう」。
25:32 And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?
25:33 ヤコブはまた言った、「まずわたしに誓いなさい」。彼は誓って長子の特権をヤコブに売った。
25:33 And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he swore unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.
25:34 そこでヤコブはパンとレンズ豆のあつものとをエサウに与えたので、彼は飲み食いして、立ち去った。このようにしてエサウは長子の特権を軽んじた。
25:34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentils; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.
26:1 アブラハムの時にあった初めのききんのほか、またききんがその国にあったので、イサクはゲラルにいるペリシテびとの王アビメレクの所へ行った。
26:1 And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar.
26:2 その時、主は彼に現れて言われた、「エジプトへ下ってはならない。わたしがあなたに示す地にとどまりなさい。
26:2 And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell you of:
26:3 あなたがこの地にとどまるなら、わたしはあなたと共にいて、あなたを祝福し、これらの国をことごとくあなたと、あなたの子孫とに与え、わたしがあなたの父アブラハムに誓った誓いを果そう。
26:3 Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you; for unto you, and unto your seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I swore unto Abraham your father;
26:4 またわたしはあなたの子孫を増して天の星のようにし、あなたの子孫にこれらの地をみな与えよう。そして地のすべての国民はあなたの子孫によって祝福をえるであろう。
26:4 And I will make your seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto your seed all these countries; and in your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;
26:5 アブラハムがわたしの言葉にしたがってわたしのさとしと、いましめと、さだめと、おきてとを守ったからである」。
26:5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.
26:6 こうしてイサクはゲラルに住んだ。
26:6 And Isaac dwelt in Gerar:
26:7 その所の人々が彼の妻のことを尋ねたとき、「彼女はわたしの妹です」と彼は言った。リベカは美しかったので、その所の人々がリベカのゆえに自分を殺すかもしれないと思って、「わたしの妻です」と言うのを恐れたからである。
26:7 And the men of the place asked him of his wife; and he said, She is my sister: for he feared to say, She is my wife; lest, said he, the men of the place should kill me for Rebekah; because she was fair to look upon.
26:8 イサクは長らくそこにいたが、ある日ペリシテびとの王アビメレクは窓から外をながめていて、イサクがその妻リベカと戯れているのを見た。
26:8 And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was sporting with Rebekah his wife.
26:9 そこでアビメレクはイサクを召して言った、「彼女は確かにあなたの妻です。あなたはどうして『彼女はわたしの妹です』と言われたのですか」。イサクは彼に言った、「わたしは彼女のゆえに殺されるかもしれないと思ったからです」。
26:9 And Abimelech called Isaac, and said, Behold, certainly she is your wife; and how said you, She is my sister? And Isaac said unto him, Because I said, Lest I die for her.
26:10 アビメレクは言った、「あなたはどうしてこんな事をわれわれにされたのですか。民のひとりが軽々しくあなたの妻と寝るような事があれば、その時あなたはわれわれに罪を負わせるでしょう」。
26:10 And Abimelech said, What is this you have done unto us? one of the people might lightly have lien with your wife, and you should have brought guiltiness upon us.
26:11 それでアビメレクはすべての民に命じて言った、「この人、またはその妻にさわる者は必ず死ななければならない」。
26:11 And Abimelech charged all his people, saying, He that touches this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.
26:12 イサクはその地に種をまいて、その年に百倍の収穫を得た。このように主が彼を祝福されたので、
26:12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.
26:13 彼は富み、またますます栄えて非常に裕福になり、
26:13 And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:
26:14 羊の群れ、牛の群れ及び多くのしもべを持つようになったので、ペリシテびとは彼をねたんだ。
26:14 For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.
26:15 またペリシテびとは彼の父アブラハムの時に、父のしもべたちが掘ったすべての井戸をふさぎ、土で埋めた。
26:15 For all the wells which his father's servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth.
26:16 アビメレクはイサクに言った、「あなたはわれわれよりも、はるかに強くなられたから、われわれの所を去ってください」。
26:16 And Abimelech said unto Isaac, Go from us; for you are much mightier than we.
26:17 イサクはそこを去り、ゲラルの谷に天幕を張ってその所に住んだ。
26:17 And Isaac departed thence, and pitched his tent in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there.
26:18 そしてイサクは父アブラハムの時に人々の掘った水の井戸を再び掘った。アブラハムの死後、ペリシテびとがふさいだからである。イサクは父がつけた名にしたがってそれらに名をつけた。
26:18 And Isaac dug again the wells of water, which they had dug in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.
26:19 しかしイサクのしもべたちが谷の中を掘って、そこにわき出る水の井戸を見つけたとき、
26:19 And Isaac's servants dug in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.
26:20 ゲラルの羊飼たちは、「この水はわれわれのものだ」と言って、イサクの羊飼たちと争ったので、イサクはその井戸の名をエセクと名づけた。彼らが彼と争ったからである。
26:20 And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac's herdmen, saying, The water is ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove with him.
26:21 彼らはまた一つの井戸を掘ったが、これをも争ったので、名をシテナと名づけた。
26:21 And they dug another well, and strove for that also: and he called the name of it Sitnah.
26:22 イサクはそこから移ってまた一つの井戸を掘ったが、彼らはこれを争わなかったので、その名をレホボテと名づけて言った、「いま主がわれわれの場所を広げられたから、われわれはこの地にふえるであろう」。
26:22 And he removed from thence, and dug another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the LORD has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.
26:23 彼はそこからベエルシバに上った。
26:23 And he went up from thence to Beersheba.
26:24 その夜、主は彼に現れて言われた、「わたしはあなたの父アブラハムの神である。あなたは恐れてはならない。わたしはあなたと共におって、あなたを祝福し、わたしのしもべアブラハムのゆえにあなたの子孫を増すであろう」。
26:24 And the LORD appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham your father: fear not, for I am with you, and will bless you, and multiply your seed for my servant Abraham's sake.
26:25 それで彼はその所に祭壇を築いて、主の名を呼び、そこに天幕を張った。またイサクのしもべたちはそこに一つの井戸を掘った。
26:25 And he built an altar there, and called upon the name of the LORD, and pitched his tent there: and there Isaac's servants dug a well.
26:26 時にアビメレクがその友アホザテと、軍勢の長ピコルと共にゲラルからイサクのもとにきたので、
26:26 Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath one of his friends, and Phichol the chief captain of his army.
26:27 イサクは彼らに言った、「あなたがたはわたしを憎んで、あなたがたの中からわたしを追い出されたのに、どうしてわたしの所にこられたのですか」。
26:27 And Isaac said unto them, Wherefore come all of you to me, seeing all of you hate me, and have sent me away from you?
26:28 彼らは言った、「われわれは主があなたと共におられるのを、はっきり見ましたので、いまわれわれの間、すなわちわれわれとあなたとの間に一つの誓いを立てて、あなたと契約を結ぼうと思います。
26:28 And they said, We saw certainly that the LORD was with you: and we said, Let there be now an oath between us, even between us and you, and let us make a covenant with you;
26:29 われわれはあなたに害を加えたことはなく、ただ良い事だけをして、安らかに去らせたのですから、あなたはわれわれに悪い事をしてはなりません。まことにあなたは主に祝福されたかたです」。
26:29 That you will do us no hurt, as we have not touched you, and as we have done unto you nothing but good, and have sent you away in peace: you are now the blessed of the LORD.
26:30 そこでイサクは彼らのためにふるまいを設けた。彼らは飲み食いし、
26:30 And he made them a feast, and they did eat and drink.
26:31 あくる朝、はやく起きて互に誓った。こうしてイサクは彼らを去らせたので、彼らはイサクのもとから穏やかに去った。
26:31 And they rose up early in the morning, and swore one to another: and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.
26:32 その日、イサクのしもべたちがきて、自分たちが掘った井戸について彼に告げて言った、「わたしたちは水を見つけました」。
26:32 And it came to pass the same day, that Isaac's servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had dug, and said unto him, We have found water.
26:33 イサクはそれをシバと名づけた。これによってその町の名は今日にいたるまでベエルシバといわれている。
26:33 And he called it Shebah: therefore the name of the city is Beersheba unto this day.
26:34 エサウは四十歳の時、ヘテびとベエリの娘ユデテとヘテびとエロンの娘バスマテとを妻にめとった。
26:34 And Esau was forty years old when he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Bashemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite:
26:35 彼女たちはイサクとリベカにとって心の痛みとなった。
26:35 Which were a grief of mind unto Isaac and to Rebekah.
