1:1 イエス・キリストの使徒ペテロから、ポント、ガラテヤ、カペドキヤ、アジヤ、及びビテニヤに離散し寄留している人たち、
1:1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
1:2 すなわち、イエス・キリストに従い、かつ、その血のそそぎを受けるために、父なる神の予知されたところによって選ばれ、御霊のきよめにあずかっている人たちへ。恵みと平安とが、あなたがたに豊かに加わるように。
1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, (o. pneuma) unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
1:3 ほむべきかな、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの父なる神、神は、その豊かなあわれみにより、イエス・キリストを死人の中からよみがえらせ、それにより、わたしたちを新たに生まれさせて生ける望みをいだかせ、
1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy has begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
1:4 あなたがたのために天にたくわえてある、朽ちず汚れず、しぼむことのない資産を受け継ぐ者として下さったのである。
1:4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fades not away, reserved in heaven for you,
1:5 あなたがたは、終わりの時に啓示さるべき救にあずかるために、信仰により神の御力に守られているのである。
1:5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
1:6 そのことを思って、今しばらくのあいだは、さまざまな試練で悩まねばならないかも知れないが、あなたがたは大いに喜んでいる。
1:6 Wherein all of you greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, all of you are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
1:7 こうして、あなたがたの信仰はためされて、火で精錬されても朽ちるほかない金よりもはるかに尊いことが明らかにされ、イエス・キリストの現れるとき、さんびと栄光とほまれとに変わるであろう。
1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perishes, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
1:8 あなたがたは、イエス・キリストを見たことはないが、彼を愛している。現在、見てはいないけれども、信じて、言につくせない、輝きにみちた喜びにあふれている。
1:8 Whom having not seen, all of you love; in whom, though now all of you see him not, yet believing, all of you rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
1:9 それは、信仰の結果なるたましいの救を得ているからである。
1:9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
1:10 この救については、あなたがたに対する恵みのことを予言した預言者たちも、たずね求め、かつ、つぶさに調べた。
1:10 Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:
1:11 彼らは、自分たちのうちにいますキリストの霊が、キリストの苦難とそれに続く栄光とを、あらかじめあかしした時、それは、いつの時、どんな場合をさしたのかを、調べたのである。
1:11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit (o. pneuma) of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
1:12 そして、それらについて調べたのは、自分たちのためではなくて、あなたがたのための奉仕であることを示された。それらのことは、天からつかわされた聖霊に感じて福音を宣べ伝えた人々によって、今や、あなたがたに告げ知らされたのであるが、これは、御使たちも、うかがい見たいと願っている事である。
1:12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Spirit (o. pneuma) sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.
1:13 それだから、心の腰に帯を締め、身を慎み、イエス・キリストの現れるときに与えられる恵みを、いささかも疑わずに待ち望んでいなさい。
1:13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
1:14 従順な子供として、無知であった時代の浴場に従わず、
1:14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
1:15 むしろ、あなたがたを召して下さった霊なるかたにならって、あなたがた自身も、あらゆる行いにおいて霊なる者となりなさい。
1:15 But as he which has called you is holy, so be all of you holy in all manner of conversation;
1:16 聖書に、「わたしが聖なる者であるから、あなたがたも聖なる者になるべきである」と書いてあるからである。
1:16 Because it is written, Be all of you holy; for I am holy.
1:17 あなたがたは、人をそれぞれのしわざに応じて、公平にさばくかたを、父と呼んでいるからには、地上に宿っている間を、恐れの心をもって過ごすべきである。
1:17 And if all of you call on the Father, who without respect of persons judges according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:
1:18 あなたがたのよく知っているとおり、あなたがたの先祖伝来の空疎な生活からあがない出されたのは、金や銀のような朽ちる物によったのではなく、
1:18 Forasmuch as all of you know that all of you were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
1:19 きずも、しみもない小羊のようなキリストの尊い血によったのである。
1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
1:20 キリストは、天地が造られる前から、あらかじめ知られていたのであるが、この終わりの時に至って、あなたがたのために現れたのである。
1:20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
1:21 あなたがたは、このキリストによって、彼を死人の中からよみがえらせて、栄光をお与えになった神を信じる者となったのであり、したがって、あなたがたの信仰と望みとは、神にかかっているのである。
1:21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
1:22 あなたがたは、真理に従うことによって、たましいをきよめ、偽りのない兄弟愛をいだくに至ったのであるから、互いに心から熱く愛し合いなさい。
1:22 Seeing all of you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit (o. pneuma) unto sincere love of the brethren, see that all of you love one another with a pure heart fervently:
1:23 あなたがたが新たに生まれたのは、朽ちる種からではなく、朽ちない種から、すなわち、神の変わることのない生ける御言によったのである。
1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word (o. logos) of God, which lives and abides for ever.
1:24 「人はみな草のごとく、その栄華はみな草の花に似ている。草は枯れ、花は散る。
1:24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower thereof falls away:
1:25 しかし、主の言葉は、とこしえに残る」。これが、あなたがたに宣べ伝えられた御言葉である。
1:25 But the word (o. rhema) of the Lord endures for ever. And this is the word (o. rhema) which by the gospel is preached unto you.
2:1 だから、あらゆる悪意、あらゆる偽り、偽善、そねみ、いっさいの悪口を捨てて、
2:1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, all evil speaking,
2:2 今生まれたばかりの乳飲み子のように、混じりけのない霊の乳を慕い求めなさい。それによっておい育ち、救に入るようになるためである。
2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that all of you may grow thereby:
2:3 あなたがたは、主が恵み深いかたであることを、すでに味わい知ったはずである。
2:3 If so be all of you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
2:4 主は、人には捨てられたが、神にとっては選ばれた尊い生ける石である。
2:4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
2:5 この主のみもとにきて、あなたがたも、それぞれ生ける石となって、霊の家に築き上げられ、聖なる祭司となって、イエス・キリストにより、神に喜ばれる霊のいけにえを、ささげなさい。
2:5 All of you also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
2:6 聖書にこう書いてある、「みよ、わたしはシオンに、選ばれた尊い石、隅のかしら石を置く。それにより頼む者は、決して、失望に終わることがない」。
2:6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believes on him shall not be confounded.
2:7 この石は、より頼んでいるあなたがには尊いものであるが、不信仰な人々には「家造りらの捨てた石で、隅のかしら石となったもの」。
2:7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
2:8 また「つまずきの石、妨げの岩」である。しかし、彼らがつまずくのは、御言に従わないからであって、彼らは、実は、そうなるように定められていたのである。
2:8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, (o. logos) being disobedient: unto which also they were appointed.

2:9 But all of you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, an exclusive people; that all of you should show forth the praises of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
2:10 あなたがたは、以前は神の民ではなかったが、今は神の民であり、以前は、あわれみを受けたことのない者であったが、いまは、あわれみを受けた者となっている。
2:10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
2:11 愛する者たちよ。あなたがたに勧める。あなたがたは、この世の旅人であり寄留者であるから、たましいに戦いをいどむ肉の欲を避けなさい。
2:11 Dearly beloved, I plead to you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
2:12 異邦人の中にあって、りっぱな行いをしなさい。そうすれば、彼らは、あなたがたを悪人呼ばわりしていても、あなたがたのりっぱなわざを見て、かえって、おとずれの日に神をあがめるようになろう。
2:12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
2:13 あなたがたは、すべて人の立てた制度に、主のゆえに従いなさい。主権者としての王であろうと、
2:13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;
2:14 あるいは、悪を行う者を罰し善を行う者を賞するために、王から遣わされた長官であろうと、これに従いなさい。
2:14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.
2:15 善を行うことによって、愚かな人々の無知な発言を封じるのは、神の御旨なのである。
2:15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing all of you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:
2:16 自由人にふさわしく行動しなさい。ただし、自由をば悪を行う口実として用いず、神の僕にふさわしく行動しなさい。
2:16 As free, and not using your liberty for a coat of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
2:17 すべての人をうやまい、兄弟たちを愛し、神をおそれ、王を尊びなさい。
2:17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
2:18 僕たる者よ。心からおそれをもって、主人に仕えなさい。善良で寛容な主人にだけにではなく、気むずかしい主人にも、そうしなさい。
2:18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the perverse.
2:19 もしだれかが、不当な苦しみを受けても、神を仰いでその苦痛を堪え忍ぶなら、それはよみせられることである。
2:19 For this deserves giving of thanks, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.
2:20 悪いことをして打ちたたかれ、それを忍んだとしても、なんの手柄になるのか、しかし善を行って苦しみを受け、しかもそれを耐え忍んでいるとすれば、これこそ神によみせられることである。
2:20 For what glory is it, if, when all of you be buffeted for your faults, all of you shall take it patiently? but if, when all of you do well, and suffer for it, all of you take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.
2:21 あなたがたは、実に、そうするようにと召されたのである。
2:21 For even hereunto were all of you called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that all of you should follow his steps:
2:22 キリストは、罪を犯さず、その口には偽りがなかった。
2:22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
2:23 ののしられても、ののしりかえさず、苦しめられても、おびやかすことをせず、正しいさばきをするかたに、いっさいをゆだねておられた。
2:23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judges righteously:
2:24 さらに、わたしたちが罪に死に、義に生きるために、十字架にかかって、わたしたちの罪をご自分の身に負われた。その傷によって、あなたがたは、いやされたのである。
2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes all of you were healed.
2:25 あなたがたは、羊のようにさ迷っていたが、今は、たましいの牧者であり監督であるかたのもとに、たち帰ったのである。
2:25 For all of you were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
3:1 同じように、妻たる者よ。夫に仕えなさい。そうすれば、たとい御言に従わない夫であっても、
3:1 Likewise, all of you wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, (o. logos) they also may without the word (o. logos) be won by the conversation of the wives;
3:2 あなたがたのうやうやしく清い行いを見て、その妻の無言の行いによって救に入れられるようになるであろう。
3:2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with (o. rhema) fear.
3:3 あなたがたは、髪を編み、金の飾りをつけ、服装をととのえるような外面の飾りではなく、
3:3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of braiding the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
3:4 かくれた内なる人、柔和で、しとやかな霊という朽ちることのない飾りを、身につけるべきである。これこそ、神のみまえに、きわめて尊いものである。
3:4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, (o. pneuma) which is in the sight of God of great price.
3:5 むかし、神を仰ぎ望んでいた聖なる女たちも、このように身を飾って、その夫に仕えたのである。
3:5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:
3:6 たとえば、サラはアブラハムに仕えて、彼を主と呼んだ。あなたがたも、何事にもおびえ臆することなく善を行えば、サラの娘たちとなるのである。
3:6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters all of you are, as long as all of you do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
3:7 夫たるものよ。あなたがたも同じように、女は自分より弱い器であることを認めて、知識に従って妻と共に住み、いのちの恵みと共どもに受け継ぐものとして、尊びなさい。それは、あなたがたの祈りが妨げられないためである。
3:7 Likewise, all of you husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
3:8 最後に言う。あなたがたは皆、心をひつとにし、同情し合い、兄弟愛をもち、あわれみ深くあり、謙虚でありなさい。
3:8 Finally, be all of you all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
3:9 悪をもって悪に報いず、悪口をもって悪口に報いず、かえって、祝福をもって報いなさい。あなたがたが召されたのは、祝福を受け継ぐためなのである。
3:9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that all of you are thereunto called, that all of you should inherit a blessing.
3:10 「いのちを愛し、さいわいな日々を過ごそうと願う人は、舌を制して悪を言わず、くちびるを閉じて偽りを語らず、
3:10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
3:11 悪を避けて善を行い、平和を求めて、これを追え、
3:11 Let him shun evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and pursue it.
3:12 主の目は義人たちに注がれ、主の耳は彼らの祈りにかたむく。しかし主の御顔は、悪を行う者に対して向かう」。
3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.
3:13 そこで、もしあなたがたが善に熱心であれば、だれが、あなたがたに危害を加えようか。
3:13 And who is he that will harm you, if all of you be followers of that which is good?
3:14 しかし、万一義のために苦しむようなことがあっても、あなたがたはさいわいである。彼らを恐れたり、心を乱したりしてはならない。
3:14 But and if all of you suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are all of you: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;
3:15 ただ、心の中でキリストを主とあがめなさい。また、あなたがたのうちにある望みについて説明を求める人には、いつでも弁明のできる用意をしていなさい。
3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asks you a reason (o. logos) of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
3:16 しかし、やさしく、慎み深く、明かな良心をもって、弁明しなさい。そうすれば、あなたがたがキリストにあって営んでいる良い生活をそしる人々も、そのようにののしったことを恥じいるであろう。
3:16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.
3:17 善をおこなって苦しむことはーーそれが神の御旨であればーー悪を行って苦しむよりも、まさっている。
3:17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that all of you suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.
3:18 キリストも、あなたがたを神に近づけようとして、自らは義なるかたであるのに、不義なる人々のために、ひとたび罪のゆえに死なれたのである。ただし、肉においては殺されたが、霊においては生かされたのである。
3:18 For Christ also has once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: (o. pneuma)
3:19 こうして、彼は獄に捕らわれている霊どものところに下って行き、宣べ伝えることをされた。
3:19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits (o. pneuma) in prison;
3:20 これらの霊というのは、むかしノアの箱船が造られていた間、神が寛容をもって待っておられたのに従わなかった者どものことである。その箱船に乗り込み、水を経て救われたのは、わずかに八名だけであった。
3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
3:21 この水はバプテスマを象徴するものであって、今やあなたがたをも救うのである。。それは、イエス・キリストの復活によるのであって、からだがの汚れを除くことではなく、明かな良心を神に願い求めることである。
3:21 The like figure unto which even baptism does also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
3:22 キリストは天に上って神の右に座し、天使たちともろもろの権威、権力を従えておられるのである。
3:22 Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.
4:1 このように、キリストは肉において苦しまれたのであるから、あなたがたも同じ覚悟で心の武装をしなさい。肉において苦しんだ人は、それによって罪からのがれたのである。
4:1 Forasmuch then as Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin;
4:2 それは、肉における残りの生涯を、もはや人間の欲情によらず、神の御旨によって過ごすためである。
4:2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
4:3 過ぎ去った時代には、あなたがたは、異邦人の好みにまかせて、好色、欲情、酔酒、宴楽、暴飲、気ままな偶像礼拝などにふけってきたが、もうそれで十分であろう。
4:3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:
4:4 今あなたがたは、そうした度を過ごした乱行に加わらないので、彼らは驚きあやしみ、かつ、ののしっている。
4:4 Wherein they think it strange that all of you run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:
4:5 彼らは、やがて生ける者と死ねる者とをさばくかたに、申し開きをしなくてはならない。
4:5 Who shall give account (o. logos) to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.
4:6 死人にさえ福音が宣べ伝えられたのは、彼らは肉においては人間としてさばきを受けるが、霊においては神に従って生きるようになるためである。
4:6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. (o. pneuma)
4:7 万物の終わりが近づいている。だから、心を確かにし、身を謹んで、努めて祈りなさい。
4:7 But the end of all things is at hand: be all of you therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
4:8 何よりもまず、互の愛を熱く保ちなさい。愛は多くの罪をおおうものである。
4:8 And above all things have fervent love (o. agape) among yourselves: for love (o. agape) shall cover the multitude of sins.
4:9 不平を言わずに、互にもてなし合いなさい。
4:9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
4:10 あなたがたは、それぞれ賜物をいただいているのだから、神のさまざまな恵みの良き管理人として、それをお互いのために役立てるべきである。
4:10 As every man has received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
4:11 語る者は、神の御言を語る者にふさわしく語り、奉仕する者は、神から賜わる力による者にふさわしく奉仕すべきである。それは、すべてのことにおいてイエス・キリストによって、神があがめられるためである。栄光と力とが世々限りなく、彼にあるように、アァメン。
4:11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God gives: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
4:12 愛する者たちよ。あなたがたを試みるために降りかかって来る火のような試練を、何か思いがけないことが起こったかのように驚きあやしむことなく、
4:12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
4:13 むしろ、キリストの苦しみにあずかればあずかるほど、喜ぶがよい。それは、キリストの栄光が現れる際に、よろこびにあふれるためである。
4:13 But rejoice, inasmuch as all of you are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, all of you may be glad also with exceeding joy.
4:14 キリストの名のためにそしられるなら、あなたがたはさいわいである。その時には、栄光の霊、神の霊が、あなたがたに宿るからである。
4:14 If all of you be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are all of you; for the spirit (o. pneuma) of glory and of God rests upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
4:15 あなたがたのうち、だれも、人殺し、盗人、悪を行う者、あるいは、他人に干渉する者として苦しみに会うことのないようにしなさい。
4:15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.
4:16 しかし、クリスチャンとして苦しみを受けるのであれば、恥じることはない。かえって、この名によって神をあがめなさい。
4:16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
4:17 さばきが神の家から始められる時がきた。それが、わたしたちからまず始められるとしたら、神の福音に従わない人々の行く末は、どんなであろうか。
4:17 For the time has come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
4:18 また義人でさえ、かろうじて救われるのだとすれば、不信なる者や罪人は、どうなるのであろうか。
4:18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
4:19 だから、神の御旨に従って苦しみを受ける人人は、善をおこない、そして、真実であられる創造者に、自分のたましいをゆだねるがよい。
4:19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
5:1 そこで、あなたがたのうちの長老たちに勧める。わたしも、長老のひとりで、キリストの苦難についての証人であり、また、やがて現れようとする栄光にあずかる者である。
5:1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
5:2 あなたがたにゆだねられている神の羊の群れを牧しなさい。しいられてするのではなく、神に従って自ら進んでなし、恥ずべき利得のためではなく、本心から、それをしなさい。
5:2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy illegal gain, but of a ready mind;
5:3 また、ゆだねられた者たちの上に権力をふるうことをしないで、むしろ、群れの模範となるべきである。
5:3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
5:4 そうすれば、大牧者が現れる時には、しぼむことのない栄光の冠を受けるであろう。
5:4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, all of you shall receive a crown of glory that fades not away.
5:5 同じように、若い人たちよ。長老たちに従いなさい。また、みな互に謙遜を身につけなさい。神は高ぶる者をしりぞけ、へりくだる者に恵みを賜るからである。
5:5 Likewise, all of you younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble.
5:6 だから、あなたがたは、神の力強い御手の下に、自らを低くしなさい。時が来れば神はあなたがたを高くして下さるであろう。
5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
5:7 神はあなたがたをかえりみていて下さるのであるから、自分の思いわずらいを、いっさい神にゆだねるがよい。
5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he cares for you.
5:8 身を慎み、目をさましていなさい。あなたがたの敵である悪魔が、ほえたけるししのように、食いつくすべきものを求めて歩き回っている。
5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour:
5:9 この悪魔にむかい、信仰にかたく立って、抵抗しなさい。あなたがたのよく知っているとおり、全世界にいるあなたがたの兄弟たちも、同じような苦しみの数々に会っているのである。
5:9 Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
5:10 あなたがたをキリストにある永遠の栄光に招き入れて下さったあふるる恵みの神は、しばらくの苦しみの後、あなたがたをいやし、強め、力づけ、不動のものとして下さるであろう。
5:10 But the God of all grace, who has called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that all of you have suffered a while, make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you.
5:11 どうか、力が世々限りなく、神にあるように、アァメン。
5:11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
5:12 わたしは、忠実な兄弟として信頼しているシルワノの手によって、この短い手紙をあなたがたにおくり、勧めをし、また、これが神のまことの恵みであることをあかしした。この恵みのうちに、かたく立っていなさい。
5:12 By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein all of you stand.
5:13 あなたがたと共に選ばれてバビロンにある教会、ならびに、わたしの子マルコから、あなたがたによろしく。
5:13 The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, salutes you; and so does Marcus my son.
5:14 愛の接吻をもって互にあいさつをかわしなさい。キリストにあるあなたがた一同に、平安があるように。
5:14 Greet all of you one another with a kiss of love. (o. agape) Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen.
1:1 イエス・キリストの僕また使途であるシメオン・ペテロから、わたしたちの神と救主イエス・キリストとの義によって、わたしたちと同じ尊い信仰を授かった人々へ。
1:1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
1:2 神とわたしたちの主イエスとを知ることによって、恵みと平安とが、あなたがたに豊かに加わるように。
1:2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
1:3 いのちと信心とにかかわるすべてのことは、主イエスの神聖な力によって、わたしたちに与えられている。それは、ご自身の栄光と徳とによって、わたしたちを召された方を知る知識によるのである。
1:3 According as his divine power has given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that has called us to glory and virtue:
1:4 また、それらのものによって、尊く、大いなる約束が、わたしたちに与えられている。それは、あなたがたが、世のある欲のために滅びることを免れ、神の性質にあずかる者となるためである。
1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these all of you might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
1:5 それだから、あなたがたは、力の限りをつくして、あなたがたの信仰に徳を加え、徳に知識を、
1:5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
1:6 知識に節制を、節制に忍耐を、忍耐に信心を、
1:6 And to knowledge wilful restrain; and to wilful restrain patience; and to patience godliness;
1:7 信心に兄弟愛を、兄弟愛に愛を加えなさい。
1:7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness love. (o. agape)
1:8 これらのものがあなたがたに備わって、いよいよ豊かになるならば、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストを知る知識について、あなたがたは、怠る者、実を結ばない者となることはないであろう。
1:8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that all of you shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1:9 これらのものを備えていない者は、盲人であり、近視の者であり、自分の以前の罪がきよめられたことを忘れている者である。
1:9 But he that lacks these things is blind, and cannot see far off, and has forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
1:10 兄弟たちよ。それだから、ますます励んで、あなたがたの受けた召しと撰びとを、確かなものにしなさい。そうすれば、決してあやまちに陥ることはない。
1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if all of you do these things, all of you shall never fall:
1:11 こうして、わたしたちの主また救主イエス・キリストの永遠の国に入る恵みが、あなたがたに豊かに与えられるからである。
1:11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
1:12 それだから、あなたがたは既にこれらのことを知っており、また、いま持っている真理に堅く立ってはいるが、わたしは、これらのことについても、あなたがたに思い起こさせたいのである。
1:12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though all of you know them, and be established in the present truth.
1:13 わたしがこの幕屋にいる間、あなたがたに思い起こさせて、奮い立たせることが適当と思う。
1:13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
1:14 それは、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストもわたしに示して下さったように、わたしのこの幕屋を脱ぎ去る時が間近であることを知っているからである。
1:14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ has showed me.
1:15 わたしが世を去った後にも、これらのことを、あなたがたにいつも思い出させるように努めよう。
1:15 Moreover I will endeavour that all of you may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
1:16 わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの力と来臨とを、あなたがたに知らせた時、わたしたちは、巧みな作り話を用いることはしなかった。わたしたちが、そのご威光の目撃者なのだからである。
1:16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
1:17 イエスは父なる神からほまれと栄光とをお受けになった、その時、おごそかな栄光の中から次のようなみ声がかかったのである、「これはわたしの愛する子、わたしの心にかなう者である」。
1:17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
1:18 わたしたちもイエスと共に聖なる山にいて、天から出たこの声を聞いたのである。
1:18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
1:19 こうして、預言の言葉は、わたしたちにいっそう確実なものになった。あなたがたも、夜が明け、明星がのぼって、あなたがたの心の中を照らすまでは、この預言の言葉を暗やみに輝くともしびとして、それに目をとめているがよい。
1:19 We have also a more sure word (o. logos) of prophecy; unto which all of you do well that all of you take heed, as unto a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
1:20 聖書の預言はすべて、自分勝手に解釈すべきでないことを、まず第一に知るべきである。
1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
1:21 なぜなら、預言は決して人間の意志から出たものではなく、人々が聖霊に感じ、神によって語ったものだからである。
1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. (o. pneuma)
2:1 しかし、民の間に、にせ預言者が起こったことがあるが、それと同じく、あなたがたの間にも、にせ教師が現れるであろう。彼らは、滅びに至らせる異端をひそかに持ち込み、自分たちをあがなって下さった主を否定して、すみやかな滅亡を自分の身に招いている。
2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privately shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2:2 また、大ぜいの人が彼らの放縦を見習い、そのために、真理の道がそしりを受けるに至るのである。
2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
2:3 彼らは、貪欲なために、甘言をもってあなたがたをあざむき、利をむさぼるであろう。彼らに対するさばきは昔から猶予なく行われ、彼らの滅亡も滞ることはない。
2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words (o. logos) make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingers not, and their damnation slumbers not.
2:4 神は、罪を犯した御使たちを許しておかないで、彼らを下界におとしいれ、さばきの時まで暗やみの穴に閉じ込めておかれた。
2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
2:5 また、古い世界をそのままにしておかないで、その不信仰な世界に洪水をきたらせ、ただ、義の宣伝者ノアたち八人の者だけを保護された。
2:5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
2:6 また、ソドムとゴモラの町々を灰に帰せしめて破滅に処し、不信仰に走ろうとする人々の見せしめとし、
2:6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an example unto those that after should live ungodly;
2:7 ただ、非道の者どもの放縦な行いによってなやまされていた義人ロトだけを救い出された。
2:7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:
2:8 （この義人は、彼らの間に住み、彼らの不法の行いを日々見聞きして、その正しい心を痛めていたのである。）
2:8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)
2:9 こういうわけで、主は、信心深い者を試練の中から救い出し、また、不義な者ども、
2:9 The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
2:10 特に、汚れた情欲におぼれ肉にしたがって歩み、また、権威ある者を軽んじる人々を罰して、さばきの日まで閉じ込めておくべきことを、よくご存知なのである。こういう人々は、大胆不敵なわがまま者であって、栄光ある者たちをそしってはばかるところがない。
2:10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Arrogant are they, self-willed, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.
2:11 しかし、御使たちは、勢いにおいても力においても、彼らにまさっているにかかわらず、彼らを主のみまえに訴えそしることはしない。
2:11 Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.
2:12 これらの者は、捕らえられ、ほふられるために生まれてきた、分別のない動物のようなもので、自分が知りもしないことをそしり、その不義の報いとして罰を受け、必ず滅ぼされてしまうのである。
2:12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;
2:13 彼らは、真昼でさえ酒食を楽しみ、あなたがたと宴会に同席して、だましごとにふけっている。彼らは、しみであり、きずである。
2:13 And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceits while they feast with you;
2:14 その目は淫行を追い、罪を犯して飽くことを知らない。彼らは心の定まらない者を誘惑し、その心は貪欲に慣れ、のろいの子となっている。
2:14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
2:15 彼らは正しい道からはずれて迷いに陥り、ペオルの子バラムの道に従った。バラムは不義の実を愛し、
2:15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
2:16 そのために、自分のあやまちに対するとがめを受けた。ものを言わないろばが、人間の声でものを言い、この預言者の狂気じみたふるまいをはばんだのである。
2:16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet.
2:17 この人々は、いわば、水のない井戸、突風に吹きはらわれる霧であって、彼らには暗やみが用意されている。
2:17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.
2:18 彼らはむなしい誇を語り、迷いの中に生きている人々の間から、かろうじてのがれてきた者たちを、肉欲と色情とによって誘惑し、
2:18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
2:19 この人人に自由を与えると約束しながら、彼ら自身は滅亡の奴隷になっている。おおよそ、日とは征服者の奴隷となるものである。
2:19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
2:20 彼らが、主また救主なるイエス・キリストを知ることにより、この世の汚れからのがれた後、またそれに巻き込まれて征服されるならば、彼らの後の状態は初めよりも、もっと悪くなる。
2:20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
2:21 義の道を心得ていながら、自分に授けられた聖なる戒めにそむくよりは、むしろ義の道を知らなかった方がよい。
2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
2:22 ことわざに、「犬は自分の吐いた物に帰り、豚は洗われても、また、どろの中にころがって行く」とあるが、彼らの身に起こったことは、そのとおりである。
2:22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
3:1 愛する者たちよ。わたしは今この第二の手紙をあなたがたに書きおくり、これらの手紙によって記憶を呼び起こし、あなたがたの純真な心を奮い立たせようとした。
3:1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
3:2 それは、聖なる預言者たちがあらかじめ語った言葉と、あなたがたの使徒たちが伝えた主なる救主の戒めとを、思い出させるためである。
3:2 That all of you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
3:3 まず次のことを知るべきである。終わりの時にあざける者たちが、あざけりながら出てきて、自分の情欲のままに生活し、
3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
3:4 「主の来臨の約束はどうなったのか。先祖たちが眠りについてから、すべてのものは天地創造の初めからそのままであって、変わっていない」と言うであろう。
3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
3:5 すなわち、彼らはこのことを認めようとはしない。古い昔に天が存在し、地は神の葉によって、水がもとになり、また、水によって成ったのであるが、
3:5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word (o. logos) of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
3:6 その時の世界は、御言により水でおおわれて滅んでしまった。
3:6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
3:7 しかし、今の天と地とは、同じ御言によって保存され、不信仰な人々がさばかれ、滅ぼされるべき日に火で焼かれる時まで、そのまま保たれているのである。
3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word (o. logos) are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
3:8 愛する者たちよ。この一事を忘れてはならない。主にあっては、一日は千年のようであり、千年は一日のようである。
3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
3:9 ある人々がおそいと思っているように、主は約束の実行をおそくしておられるのではない。ただ、ひとりも滅びることがなく、すべての者が悔い改めに至ることを望み、あなたがたに対してながく忍耐しておられるのである。
3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
3:10 しかし、主の日は盗人のように襲って来る。その日には、天は大音響をたてて消え去り、天体は焼けくずれ、地とその上に造り出されたものも、みな焼きつくされるであろう。
3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
3:11 このように、これらはみなくずれ落ちていくものであるから、神の日の到来を熱心に待ち望んでいるあなたがたは、
3:11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought all of you to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
3:12 極力、きよく信心深い行いをしていなければならない。その日には、天は燃えくずれ、天体は焼けうせてしまう。
3:12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
3:13 しかし、わたしたちは、神の約束にしたがって、義の住む新しい天と新しい地とを待ち望んでいる。
3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwells righteousness.
3:14 愛する者たちよ。それだから、この日を待っているあなたがたは、しみもなくきずもなく、安らかな心で、神のみまえに出られるように励みなさい。
3:14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that all of you look for such things, be diligent that all of you may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
3:15 また、わたしたちの主の寛容は救のためであると思いなさい。このことは、わたしたちの愛する兄弟パウロが、彼に与えられた知恵によって、あなたがたに書きおくったとおりである。
3:15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him has written unto you;
3:16 彼は、どの手紙にもこれらのことを述べている。その手紙の中には、ところどころ、わかりにくい箇所もあって、無学で心の定まらない者たちは、ほかの聖書についてもしているように、無理な解釈をほどこして、自分の滅亡を招いている。
3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable shift, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
3:17 愛する者たちよ。それだから、あなたがたはかねてから心がけているように、非道の者の惑わしに誘い込まれて、あなたが自身の確信を失うことのないように心がけなさい。
3:17 All of you therefore, beloved, seeing all of you know these things before, beware lest all of you also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness.
3:18 そして、わたしたちの主また救主イエス・キリストの恵みと知識とにおいて、ますます豊かになりなさい。栄光が、今も、また永遠の日に至るまでも、主にあるように、アァメン。
3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
